My dear friend and I met in Whitby to catch up. She lives in Peterborough. I was working from home…read morea couple of Wednesdays ago. Unfortunately, I had a teleconference to join late in the day at fairly short notice. It should have ended at 4:30 pm. Due to folks who cannot stop talking, I indicated that I had to leave at 4:45 pm. I was meeting my friend at 6:00 pm. Sure enough, traffic along the 401 going eastbound was bad. I took myself off the highway at around Ajax and did my usual backroad routine and got there on time. This Winners is in a spacious plaza with tons of parking. It's between two Swedish stores: JYSK and IKEA. I parked and went in. Naturally, after downing an iced black tea, my bladder needed attention. The washroom is located in the back right corner. It's perfectly clean and stocked. My friend texted me moments later. We found each other and spent 1.5 hours in this store. This Winners is well-organized. I saw everything from BB-8 lunch bags to USB type C cables. The latter seems to be a welcoming trend for folks like me. We were browsing in the women's shoe section. I was pleased with the number of size 11 shoes. I had picked up a pair to look at and put them down. Somehow, it triggered the alarm to go off about a minute later. It was odd. Luckily, there was a staff member there. I pointed the shoes out and she went to disengage the alarm. I made a humourous remark about my luck setting off alarms being a law-abiding shopper, which made my friend and another shopper laugh. If you think you're going to do well shoplifting at this store, think again. I ended up getting a set of five charcoal masks for $7. You put it on your cleansed face, wait 20 minutes, peel it off, and then wash your face. No, I am not posting any pics of me and the mask. No one wants to see the female Asian version of Phantom of the Opera, except for my clearer skin and unclogged pores. My friend is a dogwalker and got a bunch of doggie poop bags. She indicated that they are high quality and a decent price. The lineup was a bit long, but we were chatting so much that we didn't feel like we were waiting for ages. I had a great cashier who was efficient and friendly. There were issues trying to get my card to work. She pointed out that the card machine was finicky, but all was well at long last. I like this Winners a lot. There was plenty of items to find at decent prices. (277)

I love Dollar Tree. I went crazy visiting a bunch of them when I was in Dallas back in January. I…read morereturned home and haven't set foot in one since. Well, I broke that streak on Saturday. After having a massive lunch at Philthy Philly's, I waddled out the door and saw this huge Dollar Tree. My eyes lit up. They were the most energetic part of me. I continued my slow waddle over in a self-induced carb overdose, as the store was calling my name. Sure, Canadian Dollar Tree stores do not have a frozen foods section like the ones across the border do. Yes, it's weird that all items are $1.25 and not a loonie. However, the variety is decent and it makes me happy looking at all the merchandise. I can afford stuff! I tend to get gift bags and tissue paper here. I grabbed a couple of bags for upcoming gifts that I need to dish out. I also got a couple of cans of Diet Coke for $1.25. I have bought Coke products here and they are good. The quality is decent for a dollar store. You do get brand names like Sistema and Kinder. There are some low-carb options, such as pepperoni sticks and Joseph's sugar-free cookies. You can also get special balloons here. Staff will fill them up with helium for you. They look great, are cheap, and are of decent quality. The cashier was helpful and competent. Credit and debit cards, and cash are all accepted here. This plaza has plenty of parking. I typically visit the Starbucks in this plaza when I am in Whitby. I like this store a ton. I'm a fan. (116)
