I like the fact that the original name, Pickering Town Centre, is still alive and thriving on Yelp. The mall changed its name to The Shops at Pickering City Centre. I remember disliking the longer name. I don't call it that. Neither do the locals. It's like Rogers Centre. It's still SkyDome to me. Markham doesn't have a Farm Boy. The Farm Boy at this mall was my closest location until the Sobeys on Laird recently got converted to a Farm Boy. This location is my second-closest one. It's decent, especially the custard tarts and the hot foods. I have been to this mall several times recently. I've been to both Pickle Barrel and Moxie's for a late lunch on two consecutive Saturdays. The former has brunch and happy hour specials on weekends. Moxie's has brunch twice a day, every day. I enjoyed everything that I ate and drank at these two eateries. This past Saturday, I visited the Cineplex that's a part of the mall, but I didn't see that you could enter the mall through it. It has two VIP theatres. It's lovely. Staff were amazing, the food was yummy, and I loved my VIP experience. The downside is that parking was challenging to find an available parking space. It's funny that I haven't explored what the mall part looks like these days. I guess old habits are difficult to break. Growing up, my parents and I would come to the Pickering Flea Market. At one point, it occupied the back parking lot of this mall, facing highway 401. This flea market moved locations over the years, but eventually ceased operations during the pandemic. It was in operation for over forty years. I need to hit the food court. It has Edo Japan and Bourbon Street Grill that I like. I need to explore and figure things out. It's a decent mall. The busier stores always have good service and good staff. The mall staff themselves are great. Guest services is among the most helpful in the GTA. What needs improvement in this mall is it needs proper expansion and removal of outdated stores (when the lease expires of course). There is no distinction in the direction of what the mall is selling as a category. On the weekends it gets crowded with all sorts of demographics shopping. The security staff seem swarmed. And parking is a game of survival! I expect it to improve once a proper tenant or use has been found for the now vacant Hudson Bay and the surrounding area. Right now I recommend most to visit on the weekdays, unless bumper cars in the parking lot is a ideal.

Fairview Mall has gone through an evolution and reimagination of the retail space. I love how they redeveloped the space where Sears used to be. The space is now converted into a mini Chinatown spot with Saint Germain bakery, bubble tea shop, Hong Kong style cafe, Thai restaurant, and a T&T Supermarket. On the top floor there's a Marshalls / Homesense big box store. I noticed the Zara store has been renovated and now occupying 2 levels. The store looks immaculate and love the modern layout and self serve checkout kiosks to make shopping faster for DIY people. I managed to do some shopping at H&M and got some great deals in the sale section. I also bought some groceries like green beans, lychee, bbq pork buns, and curry beef pastries. It's not very often you can go to regional mall and be able to buy clothes, groceries, and bakery goods. It was a pleasant experience. I look forward to the transformation of the vacant Hudson Bay space. Oh did I mention they have a Playdium arcade in the old Sportchek space beside the Cineplex theatre.

I don't frequent it as much as I should. I first came here with a friend roughly two decades ago to eat at All Star Wings. It's still alive and kicking. I will always have a soft spot for this eatery and ordering way too many wing flavours. We often boxed everything we couldn't finish up. There have been many Hong Kong-style eateries next to this wing place that have come and gone over the years. Sadly, one of these eateries had silver needle noodles that you don't see often on the menu. They were so good! I don't frequent the T&T Supermarket these days. It was a madhouse the few times that I did. It's the perfect storm of crazy shoppers who can't park for beans. The supermarket itself is decent. I live closer to the two T&T stores on Warden and Kennedy. This one is the third-closest one to my home. There is a Wellwise Home Health & Wellness store. It used to be under the Shoppers Drug Mart brand, but it got acquired by Verillium Health Care. It has served my family well over the years. I have got everything from washable bed pads to a wrist brace. Staff are helpful, especially when I didn't know much about these products! I like the Chatime-Bakecode store. I get my bubble tea and croissant fixes all under one roof. It's probably my favourite store at this plaza. I just noticed a Mr Sub. I will need to check it out someday. Same goes with the original Hana Don. I have been to the one at CF Fairview Mall. I need to drop by this one. Yesterday, I visited SportChek for the first time. I liked the merchandise. Customer service was excellent. There's a Tim Hortons here, too. It's got a drive-thru. It's another reason why this plaza gets busy. I like Cachet Centre, minus the craziness in front of T&T. Throw in a mix bag of designer stores for clothing, furniture etc. and you got yourself a place that was visited by the moi once in a while. Fast forward a few years the name has changed and now you have what I think a much brighter space, a decent food hall, a high end gym and an event and pop up space. Living in this area I enjoy my visits here to get last min stuff and now a post office in the Rexall. The designer stores are more of the same IMO (I think there are mostly owned by the same company) as alas the Jacadi location has closed. I luv the pop up spots (laduree' at the time of this review) and the event space up front complete with Jacked up coffee van. The Whole Foods is still here and now I feel somewhat more reasonable what they sell. I think this is decent spots to visit to run your errands or stores that are found here.

It took being an undergraduate and spending a lot of time in the area for me to warm up to this place. I spent a lot of time at The World's Biggest Bookstore and all music stores on Yonge Street, along with some time at the arcade. They are all gone. Back then, the Atrium on Bay had an Olive Garden. So many breadsticks, and spaghetti with meatballs were consumed. Yep, that folded years after I had left living in the GTA. When I returned to reside in Markham for my second and current stint, I often had dinner at The Pickel Barrel with friends. I loved it. It's gone as well. See a pattern? Then, there was Spring Roll. Although my go-to location was across from where I worked at Yonge and Eglinton, there was one here. All Spring Roll locations have folded. It's sad that all these places that I enjoyed visiting and eating at are gone. However, I was pleased to return after a decade to the Atrium on Bay and I like what I saw. Red Lobster is there. I wanted to get some biscuits, but I had just had dinner. It smelled so good as I continued my walk. The food court is still there, but it's cheerful and vast. It wasn't busy at dinner time, but you can get your Popeyes chicken fix or hit My Sushi for your Japanese food cravings. I walked by Rexall, CIBC, and Kin Kin Bakery (seriously tough not buying stuff before going to a concert), before I got to the flagship Muji store. If you are a fan of Muji, you must visit this store to enjoy two floors of minimalistic, nondescript, functional, practical items. There are a number of vacant stores. It's not expected during this pandemic. I hope that more stores open up. There are a number of smaller businesses that I'd love to spend more time checking out. Photo Imaging Plus intrigued me. I wasn't expecting an assortment of Squishmallows there. I'll definitely be back to check them out as a fan. I hope to go back to check out the stores more thoroughly when I'm not cutting through it before attending a concert. I'd love to eat at Red Lobster. I walked in with complete awe, like a child in a candy store. Yes, I got happy in a massive Chinese grocer. You'll see staff in every isle tending to the stocking of products. Products were abundant from all parts of Asia. Obviously USD is strong in Canada, so value is definitely on the plus side. Prices seemed reasonable. There is even a full store within a store dedicated to skin care. Unfortunately I stopped myself over buying as Toronto wasn't my last stop on this trip. Think of a mini Olive Young. I wish the United States had more massive grocers like this one.
