I discovered Mani Jassal while I was a bridesmaid for an Indian wedding. I was helping a friend…read morefind formal dresses for her ceremonies, and we were getting very tired and frustrated with finding just the usual, traditional, boxy Indian wedding garb that we were finding at a majority of stores in Mississauga, Brampton, and East Toronto. We wanted something more hip, more modern - and Mani's creations are just that. Mani's Style: Mani marries traditional Indian clothing with hip. That's the best way I can describe her style and designs. She tries to make sure her clothing appeals to a younger crowd (while also having stylish but conservative attire for older age groups). Her designs are incredibly stylish, inventive, and reflects current trends. Colourful, but cut well, and stylish. The Showroom: Mani Jassal herself is incredibly sweet, helpful, and responsive. Visiting her showroom is by appointment only, so you have to reach out by email to set something up. Once you're there (with Drake and upbeat hip hop humming in the background), someone is there to assist you with finding what you're looking for. The showroom is clean, presented well, and reflects a truly modern and trendy style without straying too far from the foundations of Indian dress. Pricing: We actually found pricing to be very reasonable, compared to other more traditional shops we visited in Mississauga/Brampton. Overall, we were really glad we found Mani. If you're looking for Indian formal wear that's on the trendier and modern side (but still reflecting Indian dress style), this is the place for you. I highly recommend checking out her shop!

Consider me impressed! I'd heard about this more 'upscale' thrift/vintage store opening and finally…read moregot to check it out. It's a loft-like space with lots of natural light and really well decorated. One thing that set it apart immediately, is it doesn't have that thrift store smell. They're true to their word that they're only selecting good quality items. Sure, some of the items are perhaps a bit plain, but you don't have to take too long to find a few things you'll like. It's certainly not the case of searching for a diamond in the rough. I imagine woman will like the place even more since about 80% of the floor space is for them. There were several shoppers there and they seemed to have no issue picking out great stuff too. Also, prices are GREAT! Anyone who's 'vintage' shopped in places like Kensington Market will know that things can still have relatively higher prices. My items were incredibly inexpensive, including a Banana Republic shirt which showed virtually no signs of wear for $10. I found out at the counter that this is actually a franchise as part of a fairly large chain (which I hadn't previously heard of). Regardless, they're a very unique and welcome edition to the city.
