I don't know why people always complain about this Giant because my experience is always so pleasant! I go early in the morning and they have one cashier but the cashiers are always so nice! Fully stocked all the time and aisles are organized. The only thing i don't like about this place is the way in and out. You can only go in from one door and go out the other, not a two way door! The pharmacy manager is excellent and always works through any issues with insurance or refill requests etc. Every other person working in this pharmacy is rude, unwilling to help and just push any issues back on you. Their communication is awful and it is so frustrating that I will gladly transfer every prescription I have anywhere else just to avoid this type of interaction. Zero customer service, zero sense of any care or commitment to helping customers, every time I have to go in I dread if the pharmacy manager is not there because I know I will end up walking away without my medication and with a feeling that I have inconvenienced them! read more

The people "on the floor" are very nice and helpful but they need to replace every manager in this location because there is not a single one that does their job or seems to care. There can be a line of four carts as happened today and the manager was straightening up in closed checkout lanes for 5 minutes while the line did not move. This was NOT the cashiers fault but the management there thinks their role is simply a figurehead. This happened before and a separate cashier asked for help and the asst manager shouted "you are fine" to which I responded with "perhaps you should ask the 5 people in line if THEY think it is fine". The lady named Amy at the customer service area of the store needs to be retrained on how she deals with customers. She is always unpleasant and doesn't seem to want to work. Amy complained and referred the customer to the cashier for a simple coin exchange transaction when there were multiple shoppers at the cashier line and she had the fund to complete the small transaction. This is a part of her duty to assist customers and if she doesn't want to do her job, then why come to work at all? There have been other complaints regarding this employee so management needs to look into this. read more

Prices on shelves are completely misleading on purpose. Fruit bowl was advertised as $4.99 like it was on sale, but it was $25 because it was per pound! I've never seen that at a store! Just like others, I would rather praise stores, but this Giant store in South Riding is THE WORST: POOR customer service, high prices, poorly stocked, pharmacy cannot keep track of anything unless you call it in ever time even if you have your prescription on auto refill. Very poor customer service. I wanted to send money to Nepal. Amy, a cashier helped me with the transaction. . She told me that the fee is $40 for sending $2000.exchange rate was $1 -NRS 112. I asked for the fee chart. She said they don't have an access to it. She was very rude. When I started speaking strongly about the quality of customer service, she started apologizing. I cancelled the transaction. I sent the money through the CVS. Fee was $20 and exchange rate $1- NRS119 Plus better customer service. I am very unhappy with their service. read more

I rarely write bad reviews, but in this case I am not writing because of bad customer service or bad experience with staff. I am not shopping at giant anymore. I have been ignoring a lot of stuff that I have seen at this spot i.e. long check-out lines simply because there aren't enough people at the registers. Empty shelves and dirty aisles, soggy salad packs but today I saw that they were selling cooked chicken from past two days and they had ripped the label off the container and put a new one and changed the Sell by date to a newer date and sell it for original price. When I asked the staff they said that their store manager Rebecca had told them to do that and in case the chicken is not sold, on 4th day they use it in chicken salad. I have photo proof. read more

So let me just say, I have been a loyal customer to Giant since BIRTH. My family went to the one in Centreville, off of 29 my whole life. When my family and I moved to South Riding, it was just natural to shop at the giant so close to our home. Pharmacy: My young baby got the flu and if you ever had tamiflu, they have to give you a concentrated version. She was supposed to have a certain dosage twice a day, for 5 days. On the 3-4th day I ran out of medicine. I looked at the label and you can tell the TOTAL amount they gave me was incorrect (If you timed the dosage by the number of days) Since this was 2nd time having a mess up at this pharmacy, I went there and talked to the manager. Since it was late 7pm... The pharmacy manager was not there and I was directed to the night Shift Manager in the front. I don't remember his name but he still works there. Older white man with glasses. He asked me to explain the situation to him, when I would of rather spoken directly to a manager or left a message for one. He asked me to let him do the research and had me leave my phone number. Suffice to say they NEVER called. At this point, I was dealing with sick kids and just didn't follow up. He basically just took my information, so he wouldn't have to pass it along to the manager of the store. To this day, I drive to Harris Teeter, just up the road to shop, even though Giant is walking distance from my house. read more

Parking lot is counterintuitive to depart. Beer and wine aisle nicely available straight ahead from left entrance. Organization isn't great but I've seen worse I guess. Clean. Astonishingly uncrowded for Thanksgiving. 15 items or less express should be clocking through faster than the regular lanes but at least the retiree had the decency to slide a salespaper between the Beaujolais and Moselland to keep them from clinking together in transit. Someday I'll remember to add the club card key fob, but for now I'll go with supplying my digits to look it up. read more

I stopped into this Giant a few months ago to find they had just completed a storewide renovation. I have to say I am quite pleased with the results. Things seem to be better organized. It's fairly easy to find what you are looking for even though the store is huge. The variety of products is still excellent - it's the only store where I can find my Vanilla Heat coffee creamer. The produce is fresher than I have ever seen in a Giant. Love the newly added meat counter - the meats look fresh and the cuts are better (relatively thick cut porterhouse). I find service at this location to be quite good. No, they don't have an abundance of associates wandering the aisles to assist shoppers, but what grocery store does? The ladies at the deli counter are super friendly and always offer a taste of whatever I am getting. Nice way to ensure my deli meat is fresh and tasty. The poor young man at the butcher counter apologized profusely because he was just starting and having trouble finding the code for my chicken - no issues, but nice to have someone that cares about customer satisfaction enough to apologize about a slight delay. The self check out lines are efficient and quick. Someone always stops by to bag my groceries when I use self-check. My only complaint is if you don't want to use self-checkout, there are not many lines open. However, it just doesn't get that crowded out in the 'burbs so the wait is usually not too long. The parking lot is huge and parking is never a problem. They also offer Peapod now, an online shopping service that I believe will even deliver groceries to your home with no extra fee. I find myself frequenting Giant more now especially considering the convenience to home. The renovation has made quite a difference not only in the appearance and layout of the store, but seemingly quality as well. read more

The Giant in South Riding is a little more up-scaled from the typical Giants that I've been to in other places. I think this is their new approach to suburban markets. The SR Giant is very clean and very nicely organized. They have a very large deli area and a large fresh fruit and vegetable section. By and large the vegetables are of pretty good quality, but sometimes the fruits are lackluster. You really need to check the produce carefully. Berries are almost always past their prime. I prefer Costco for Strawberries and Blueberries, when they are available. The overall selection is good and I prefer the Giant to the nearby Bloom for meat or fish. Giant also has a good wine aisle and a more comprehensive "drug store" section, with everything from deodorants and shampoos, to sox and linens. In some areas, the selection at Bloom is better, such as with Mexican food, salsas and italian pasta sauces, and I like Bloom's bakery better. I get the impression that the Giant management is trying to get everyone to use the new self-checkout system they have. I've had such bad luck with them that I refuse to use them in any store. This is problematic, because they definitely have fewer checkers than they did before the self checkout machines and the lines are almost always 2-3 people deep. All-in-all, Giant is a pretty good store, but could be better in certain areas. read more

I don't appreciate it when Giant Foods asks me for my ID when I'm buying beer and then takes down my birthday and puts it into their computer. This is never happened to me at any other grocery store or liquor store or bar why does giant need my birthdate in their computer? At what point does that become accessible to Russian hackers? If they need to check my ID to see that I am over 21, which was an awful long time ago so they could probably just look at me and figure it out, then I almost understand. But entering my personal information into their easily hacked computers is not acceptable. Then when I complained about this they said a different giant had gotten caught not following the rules. I had been loyal to this Giant Food location since moving to South Riding over 2 years ago, primarily because of its proximity to my house and the convenience it offered while driving down Loudoun County Parkway towards where I live. As time has gone by, I find myself frequenting Giant less and less. Generally speaking, the selection of products offered here pales in comparison to nearby competitors and things are priced entirely too high for what they are. There are also never enough individuals manning the checkout aisles and when that's the case, I reluctantly go through the self-checkout aisles. As someone who is pretty proficient at self-scanning, the only reason I avoid those lanes like the plague is because there are a few employees that man those stations that will literally stalk customers who are independently scanning their own grocery items. I get that it's a dull job, but that doesn't mean you need to breathe all over me; I promise I will flag you down if I have a question, I know where to find you. The roles of these self-checkout clerks would be better served working behind a real register rather than staring down customers who, let's be honest, are doing their jobs for them. Do yourself a favor and drive down the street to Harris Teeter for a significantly better all-around experience! read more

I used to live right across the street so this Giant was a necessary evil. It is definitely a slow-moving grocery store. There are times when they only have 2 cashiers open and I have to wait around and ask twice for help loading heavy items into my car. I remember one time when I tried loading a case of water bottles into the car myself and struggling horribly. There was a Giant employee just a few feet away, trying to flirt with a plainly disinterested woman, completely ignoring me. Ugh. I've lived in the South Riding area for quite sometime now and have always preferred this Giant even though i have several other choices around me. I think they have good prices and good quality food. I like their weekly circular that u can pick up as u walk in with extra coupons. And I've noticed some nice updating of their check out lines. Store is clean and organized. One suggestion i would make is that sometimes their sale price tags are a little confusing to understand and its not always so clear what the sale price is otherwise, im happy here. read more

I asked my bf (20 yrs old) to pick me up some nyquil cause i was so sick. He stopped here, which is not our usual giant because he works by there. He went to check out and they refused to sell it to him because they claimed he had to be 21. That's not true. We've bought nyquil at other giants, other stores, and even gas stations. we've been id'd because you have to be 18. 18. not 21. Maybe it's cause im sick but this infuriates me. Rarely do shopping at Giant's since Harris Teeter is much closer. However stopped by on the way and purchased French's Honey Mustard and ready to eat fried chicken for dinner. First, it was the only bag of fried chicken, and this is at 5pm... What gives with just having one bag? Got home and opened up the honey mustard and saw that it has an expired date of January 2015. Went back to Giant's to exchange. Took awhile because most of the French's Honey Mustard stocked on the shelves were expired and some going back to December 2014. All the new ones were pushed all the way in the back after clearing all the items in the front. Seems like Giant's is not removing expired products and continue to sell. The store just renovated. The looks are great: new fresh seafood counter, renewed deli and bakery, organic section, greater selections. The cashiers are super slow. Customer service at the front is horrifying: rude, slow, and major attitude problems. Bakery: nothing special other than the regular grocery store baked goods. Cookie samples are a plus. Manager looking like person in purple shirt is extremely rude. Meat counter: new addition of marinated special meats is a plus...however, they are famous for putting out brown looking, old, expired meat on the counters and shelves. Seafood counted: amazing! Small selection but decent prices. Very friendly staff. Deli: my favorite part of the store! The ladies are great! There's this younger girl who works there who helps me the most; she's super friendly, talkative, has great customer service, loves her job, very helpful. The man who works in the deli has helped me once...and I try to avoid him as much as I can; he's rude, shreds my meat when I ask for thin sliced, wants you to get out as fast as you can. Over all this store gets a 3 star because of their seafood counter, deli, and new renovations. read more

Had the worse experience at the customer service counter today!!! I don't know her name but she was an ethnic lady working behind the counter. I went there the day before to send some $ overseas and realized the name was wrong. So I went back today to have the name corrected. The lady gave me the biggest attitude and said why didn't I check it before I left the store. I was in a rush and assumed it was done correctly. I had this mistake done before and it's an easy fix!!! She couldn't be bothered by "my mistake" she should be so grate she has a job. I cannot stand when people go into work and take their personal problems out on the world!! If she didn't want to help us, she should stay her ass home!! My husband is a federal government worker and is working his ass off without pay!!!! People like her should be called out and put in her place!!! Who is she to treat someone like that!!! I will NEVER go into this Giant again!! I normally shop at Harris Teeter anyways. Okay okay... Shopping on the day before Thanksgiving wasn't a great idea, but hey, I only had to pick a few items. Lol. Since this Giant was close to work I decided to stop in. It was a bit crowded which was expected, got the things I needed and standing in line to check out. I noticed that the girl bagging my items was just throwing it in the bags with no sense of what's supposed to be with what! What the hell! How do you put large heavy cans with vegetables? Or put chicken in with fruit? I don't care if you rush, just do it right! Note to management- give your BAGGERS/Cashiers a 5 minute lesson on how to bag stuff!!! COMMENTARY: My husband and I have been shopping here at least once a week since 1991. The store is similar to other Giants stores we have been in, but this one is pleasantly laid out and they have recently made some very nice changes to the produce display area. We almost always find everything we are looking for, but, then I not an exotic or experimental cook. For the most part, the check-out clerks and the deli & bakery workers are very friendly and super nice to us. The pharmacists stand out to us, we always receive superb customer service and help from the pharmacy. read more

I've shopped at Giant Food stores for years all over the Northern Virginia area and have to say that I really do not like this store at all. Unfortunately, it's the closest grocery store to our house in South Riding so about all it has going for it is convenience. Their produce and meat departments are mediocre at best and they are often either out of items or the quality is so poor that I refuse to buy them. They also seem to be perpetually short staffed. I can't count the number of times I've need help at the seafood or meat counters which never seem to be manned so I've had to either walk up to the front service counter or roam around in search of an employee. I also had a bad experience at this store two summers ago when I slipped and took a hard fall because there was a water spill that no one had cleaned up. Fortunately, I wasn't injured but just bruised so I stopped at the service counter on my way out to report it and the woman I spoke with couldn't have cared less. She didn't apologize or ask if I was alright or anything; she just shrugged like it was no big deal which really didn't sit well with me. Fortunately, the new Wal-Mart at Dulles Landing opened last summer though so we've been doing most of our heavy grocery shopping there and only go to the South Riding Giant to pick up a few things now and then. read more
