I buy from Giant Eagle mainly for convenience since this is where we buy our prescriptions now that I am retired and they are a Medicare preferred vendor. Since Covid hit and I almost died from it 4 years ago I tend to order online and pick up my order, again for convenience. The downside is that I do not go into the store all that often so I don't select my merchandise but depend on a "shopper" to make selections for me - most times they do a great job - but often the brand I select disappoints. I selected Giant Eagle brand applewood bacon and this is what I got. As I separated the slices of bacon I found that the slices varied from thick to super thin and in between and then underneath the slices I found this clump of short fatty slices that I were gross. I guess they could be used if you were trying to melt them down to make a greasy puddle to fry breaded chicken in, but I don't cook in grease and to me they are just garbage and something I've paid for but cannot use. This is disappointing that I've paid for a pound of bacon but certainly did not get a usable pound of bacon.

Three issues with this particular giant eagle. The first and worst issue is they refuse to staff enough cashiers (see pic). You can literally spend 40 minutes checking out in there, which is ridiculous. Second, their carts too often have bad wheels. Not sure why they don't invest in some higher end carts. Third, for whatever reason their green peppers look like they've fought wars. It's a weird quirk about this place but their green peppers are almost always terrible. If you can just go to the waterfront. In an off-peak hour you might be ok.

It was a really bad experience the deli and produce section did look really nice but all I wanted was a gallon of water. It took me 15 minutes to check out after o got the water. It's Friday night you would think they would of had more cashiers. Half the self checkouts weren't open and the few that were had problems. Definitely frustrating

There is only 1 person register open. Lines are up through the aisles. There is no items on the shelves compared to Monroeville.

It was recently renovated just in time for the NFL Draft to allow more accessibility and better space for events. In the public area, there are some tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the area. They also seem to plan to have a lot more semi-permenant attractions in the space. Currently their is a roller rink (which is surprisingly affordably priced) . It has historically been home to the Holiday Market (which was moved into the theater area this year because of the construction). I hope the market does move back because Market Square was definitely the better space for it. There is plenty of parking nearby in garages, surface lots and street parking. The one downside is that it is really tough to drive through, especially with the way the renovated it. Drivers seem to be stopping to take in the new look or don't understand directional signage so there is often traffic backups.

The square has a covered area now too, with lots of seating so it can be enjoyed year round. There's so many great restaurants and cafes around the square, and there's expanded outdoor dining at a lot of the restaurants, as well.

Shelves are lined with canned goods, fresh ingredients stored in baskets to buy by the pound, and for some reason branded tourist soap bars. For the Food Tour, we were treated to the fresh hummus and pita. The hummus was very fresh - the owner even discussed how he made it over the last evening, but the pita was extremely dry and flavorless. He was clearly a true chef and creates amazing cuisines. So it is very disappointing that the store has to morph into a touristy shop. The hookah and culture items make sense somewhat, but the Harry Potter and Star Wars themed soap bars just seem like a gimmick that takes away from the true essence of the store. If you like hummus, you should definitely grab a container of the fresh made. But honestly, I doubt many people stop here based on the appearance.

I had purchased some elsewhere recently, but felt compelled to stop in to see Labad's selection. The store ambiance is welcoming, and the man who assisted me was kind and calm when he showed me several types of halva. I chose the Lebanon Valley Halawa Plain. As soon as I got home, I tried a small piece. Oh, my gosh!! I couldn't believe how much better it tastes than any other brand I have tried. What a wonderful flavor and texture! Just perfect. I highly recommend Labad's.
