We were on a trip from out of town and decided to have dinner at the cafe area and then get food to go for lunches the next day. They had slices of pizza they warmed up for the kids and meat platters with fried chicken or pulled pork along with several slides to choose from. The portions were large as well. They have a huge selection of drink coolers to pick from. We also grabbed some pre made options for lunch the next day. We were able to get a nice variety to please everyone. The store itself is fantastic. They have so many products. Everything is always in stock and the fresh foods are fresh. The customer service really needs some work. There are staff who do the shopping for online customers with those giant cards that are always in the way and the staff are incredibly rude. They don't make eye contact they don't ask you to please excuse me they are rude or absolutely ignore you completely. The people who choose to do their own shopping, deserve a nice staff and a friendly shopping experience. I constantly do the survey from the receipts explaining how terrible their customer service services. Now the bakery. They never the bread area and those of us who don't know how to slice bread well get it sliced. Or if there is very limited staff in the bakery, they choose to not make eye contact and ignore you. The marker aside from the actual grocery store has everything you need either cooking, or prepackaged. They have a good beer and wine selection and the staff checking us out at the counter were very nice. The woman after scanning my ID actually flipped it over and thanked me by my first name and same with my wife. (It's the little things). We bought some baked goods and honestly I'd would have just gotten food and hung out but my wife is here on a business trip so we just had to get some snacks. The store is huge. They have a wide variety of drinks and snacks. The flow was good as the aisles are decently sized and although we were only there for about 30 minutes the customer base was cool, even when the power went out for 10 seconds. If we actually lived here this would be our store. It's not overly expensive and it literally has everything. read more

A Giant Eagle "Market District" grocery store has a more upscale appearance than does a regular Giant Eagle. At this particular Market District, the departments contain the typical fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meats, seafoods, boxed and canned goods, frozen foods, dairy items, health and beauty products, cleaning products, etcetera. For several years, I have occasionally done my regular weekly grocery shopping at this Market District. During my most recent visit, I found all of the foods that I wanted to buy. The cashier and bagger performed their jobs pretty well. The stores' prices were average. Furthermore, this Market District offers a catering service, which I used two years ago when I needed to buy healthy and reasonably priced foods for a homeless shelter. Several days before I needed the foods, I used Giant Eagle's website to place an order for chicken and vegetables. The food could be either cooked or precooked/refrigerated. I chose the precooked/refrigerated foods, and the store had them ready on time for pickup. Their pickup times were limited to certain hours. Later at home, I spent a few hours to heat the food in my oven and microwave. According to Giant Eagle's website, this Market District also has a pharmacy, Starbucks, etcetera. read more

It was rather clean and extremely huge space inside, but the offerings were pretty standard for a supermarket, with nothing that really stood out. Bakery items looked pretty basic. I stopped by last Wednesday night to do some grocery shopping. It's pretty big on the inside and there is a good variety of everything. It was difficult to find a grocery cart and we had to walk around to find one. We also had trouble finding a couple of items so we had to walk around to find someone to ask, which also took a lot of walking around since there didn't seem to be a lot of staff working. Once we finally found someone they were nice and pointed us in the right direction. Overall, it took a lot longer than I thought it would to get what we needed and get out. In my opinion this is the best market district in the city! I like to shop after the crowds have died down so I usually go around 8ish at night. They are open til 11pm even if it doesn't always look like it. I believe after 10 you have to enter through the center doors because the others are locked. A new policy they have is that self checkouts close at 8pm so you will have to go to another register with a cashier. I love their selection. There has never been something I haven't been able to find there. Yes it is a bit more expensive, as Giant Eagle's are, but the selection at a market district is so much better than a regular store. The one thing that blows my mind is how the bar in the wine & spirits section is always packed! Never in my life would I think to choose to drink at a bar in a grocery store over an establishment, but I'm telling you there are always tons of people there. I had the best experience at Giant Eagle last Friday as i was shopping for ideas for Valentines dinner the next day. While looking at the lobster tank, Brandon came over and was the kindest and most helpful person i have run into in years. He helped me select 3 lobsters and, as i was waiting, offered a free sample of smoked salmon, which was delicious. He put an extra wet paper towel over the live lobsters and said that would help to preserve them until i cooked them the following day, which it did. Brandon was also very helpful in selecting oysters. Thanks to Brandon, my Valentines Day dinner was truly awesome. I stopped at the Flash Food section to pick up an item that was ordered on the app. I asked Carl at the self checkout area if he could get it from the pickup area. He was not able to find it and then walked back to the originating department. They did not have it, either so Carl credited back the transaction to the app. I picked up another item in place of it and he put it through the register at no charge to me. I have used the delivery service twice now. First time dreally went well. The thing I noticed that quite often I give the product name not the maker like peanut butter. Or I order grapes, etc. If I am shopping I do not pick the highest priced ones. I don't know how to indicate that and if I even can. Like grapes....often two grades and I always get the lowest one. I know that is asking alot. I can name like sour cread, Giant Eagle Brand, etc. dI am working on improving identifying the corect size, amount. So far it is good as I cannot get out much anymore. Delivery has been great. I see it is a regular delivery service that you have stationed a coordinator at loading area ... first time I have tried such a service. I was not understanding the the charges and I believe the $9.95 is for the driver? I want to change the tip I have listed on my orders. Probably my second favorite grocery store I've ever been too. What's not to love about this place? The cheese section is to die for, The End! Ha! They have just about anything you want and/or need in all regards. Yeah, it's hard to find someone to help you because most employees are lazy, but that's everywhere nowadays. I used to LOVE Market District. Way back when they came to be, I absolutely sought out the ones nearest to me. The food court area was amazing then, a different food place to try every visit! The whole store was filled with unique things, products you didn't see in other stores; shopping was an adventure! Now, the years have passed, and it's not the same any more. The food court especially has dwindled down to just a few of the same old food places, offering the same old foods. The rest of the store is...well, just a grocery store. Bakery? Same tired items every single time. After the pandemic, the awesome self-serve salad bar never returned. It's been replaced with prepared meals. A good variety of them, but overpriced for what you get, most not very good. Not having tried one in quite a while, one with meatloaf and mashed looked appealing, $9 price tag notwithstanding, so I got 2 for our dinner. I'm a huge fan of meatloaf. Sadly, I don't know what THIS stuff was. It was food , I recognized that much, but there was no flavor. I don't know how you even achieve that with a meatloaf!! My husband and I both threw it away, and our dinner was the unextraordinary mashed. That'll be my last prepared meal from there. Now let's talk prices. My husband loves Snickers ice cream bars. House can't be without them. I usually buy them at Walmart for about $8.50 for a 12 bar box. Market District? ELEVEN dollars!! I recognize that Giant Eagle is far smaller than Walmart, but still, a $2.50 price gap is absurd. Fact is, Giant Eagle and Market District boast some of the highest prices around. Sad. read more

As others have mentioned, this specific Giant Eagle Market District is one of the largest (if not the largest) in the area. And this is both a good thing and a bad thing. The nice thing is that if you have the time to browse, you're probably going to find what you need. Houseplants? Check. Produce? Got it. Deli meat? Yup. Seafood? Double yup! And that's before you even begin browsing the aisles of boxed foods, canned foods, spices, snacks, drinks, cleaning supplies...the list of things you can buy here feels endless. Starting or ending your shopping with a visit to their in-house Starbucks or their beer and wine section is also a nice option. Here's the downside of all of that: in 2020 in particular, I don't want to browse. I want to quickly get my stuff and get out in a nice socially distanced manner. A store of this size isn't easy to navigate quickly; plus, in an effort to control traffic patterns, right now there are signs on the floor indicating when you can and cannot walk in a certain direction. Are the signs necessary? 100%; but they also make navigating this massive store a longer process. Another 2020-specific note: I have yet to see a Giant Eagle do what other grocery chains have done in terms of actually letting a limited number of people in the store at one time. That said, I've also been lucky and managed to avoid a "disaster" scenario where I felt too uncomfortable to finish shopping here. Still, I want to mention that since I know some people feel much more comfortable knowing that sort of protocol is being utilized. Staying in the "2020-specific" category: while there has been one instance where a stressed out staff member told me off for being confused about their signage (which I didn't appreciate since, again, I was just confused), for the most part, the people here have been kind and courteous. Plus, I know they're working hard and doing their best to make sure we all have access to the necessities this year. (Speaking of accessing the necessities, curbside pickup is available; so if this Giant Eagle is in a convenient location for you and curbside is more your style right now, don't be afraid to take advantage of that!) Final thoughts: while I'm not a regular at this specific Giant Eagle, I do appreciate their efforts this year, and also appreciate the variety of items you can pick up during your grocery run. I admit, I was not a regular shopper here even before 2020; and for now, the 2020-specific things I mentioned above are things I keep in mind when I consider shopping here. But I have always (and will continue to) keep them in mind as a supplemental shopping option! read more

I love the changes that were made to the curbside pickup. My "personal shopper" sent a text as they started my order and we were able to easily communicate with questions about substitutions for products. What I really appreciated is they asked if I wanted anything added to my order while they were shopping. There is always something that I can't find online that I get at the store or something I forget. During pick-up I hardly waited since I told the app I was on my way. I really like the Market District brand store. I feel like I can get the most local products (beside farmers markets) at reasonable prices. Local means supporting farms closest to us to keep them in business. Local means a shorter voyage, less handling, more fresh. Of course things are seasonally available for the area. Local means a lower carbon footprint, if you're into that. This store is nice and huge, with a big beer and wine selection, a bar for tastings, and a nice open Cafe upstairs that overlooks all the prepared foods stations! It's always clean, well stocked, and the employees helpful and friendly. We had a friend who worked for the company, and they seem to be good to their staff. Don't know what they did to their pizza but it sucks now. It was actually disgusting. The crust is no longer thin it tastes like raw dough and the sauce is thick and clumpy like pasta sauce and doesn't taste good. Very disappointed because I loved their pizza. I loooooove Market District! Ever since it first got built, it has just been a go-to for everything from groceries or for a quick bite. Their prepared foods section is awesome, especially when restaurants start closing down at night, there's always Market District to rely on. I usually go to the salad bar and the hot food bar when I come here to grab food. The prices are reasonable, and the food is always fresh. I also love their selection of sushi! They have a large seating area upstairs to enjoy your food (outdoor seating too). They have many other ready made food options to choose from, but I'm really sad they took away the Asian food station in the back near the bakery. That was my absolute favorite, and I would get food from there allllllll of the time. I wish they would bring it back! This store is huge, and honestly sometimes I come here for fun just to look around. I feel like you can find literally any grocery item you could ever dream of here. I'm not sure if they still give free samples out anymore, but one of my favorite things to do as a kid was to come here with my mom on Sunday afternoons just for the samples. WOW! This store is the mother of all Giant Eagles. It has beer and wine, an actual bar, a tremendously large hot foods section, bakery, fresh seafood, a butcher, and a selection of items that your everyday Giant Eagle may not have. I can't imagine not being able to find what you're looking for here, even if it's a specialty item or something relatively hard to find. Market District is located in Robinson's Settler's Ridge plaza and it's easy to find. You can enter through the beer and wine section, or the front of the store. If you go through the beer section, you'll notice they have a beautiful bar with TVs, and I joked with my boyfriend Darius that I'd leave him there while I shopped so I could get all of the items on my list in peace. He would probably enjoy that, though, so I'm not sure how much of a joke it was! On to the hot foods. I've never eaten them, but they look delicious. Market District has a variety of pre-packaged hot foods and meals that I'd imagine make life a bit easier when you're pressed for time. They're a bit pricy, but again if time is the factor here it's worth it to spend the extra money once in a while. Sometimes there are deals where certain hot foods are on sale and that can make it more budget-friendly. Now, my favorite part of the store: PRODUCE. If anyone knows me, they know that I'm a meal planner. I grocery shop several times a week between the markets in walking distance of my job or my own local grocery stores. The produce here is sometimes overpriced, but they have everything you can imagine and maybe even fruits and veggies you've never seen before. The multicolored cauliflower and carrots had me second guessing my plain orange carrots and broccoli, but I do love to see a good variety. As far as the butcher and fresh seafood station, Giant Eagle has always been a dependable place to go for fresh meats and fish in my opinion. Last time Darius and I went to Market District we decided to treat ourselves to two of the crab stuffed salmon filets and they came to a few cents below $10, not bad. We got some of the prepackaged lobster mac and cheese to go on the side with our veggies, too. For dessert (you know a good dinner isn't complete without dessert), we got one of the chocolate chip pudding cakes from the bakery. We don't normally eat as extravagantly as this time, but you've got to treat yourself every once in a while! Overall, if Market District wasn't so expensive it would probably be my main go-to grocery store. Because of the pricing, however, it's more of a special occasion to go here.
