I have enjoyed shopping here since it has opened roughly 16 years ago. They have always had great staff and the products are usually pretty good quality. I also appreciate the fair return policy, if something is wrong they refund your money and also you can replace the item. They don't give you any grief if you need to return something like Giant Eagle. They have certainly expanded their selection and the quality has always been good. The only issue is that the items come and go just like Trader Joe's. I love the hummus chips that pop up every once in a while, but then they go away quickly. I have always loved the fact that they never use plastic bags, which is very sustainable. It is very good to have them in the neighborhood. Please note: if you park out in the front you will not be able to transport your groceries in a cart out to your car. The store is wired so that the cart gets locked up if you try to leave out of the front door. This can suck if the back parking lot is full. read more

ALDI is a chain grocery store that sells name-brand and store-brand foods, beverages, and household goods. The selection of products is smaller than what many other grocery stores offer, and the prices are low to moderate. My husband and I shopped at this ALDI in the South Side one time. We saw a decent variety of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, eggs, meats, seafoods, snacks, pantry items, beverages, and other products. My husband commented that the chicken cost less than the chicken at other grocery stores. We purchased several snack foods and beverages for a stay in a nearby hotel. Today 5/9/24 9::30 AM a young person with mask and unknown gender named Adrien rang my wife groceries and charged her for 7 5lbs bags of potatoes when she only had one. we were on our way to her cancer treatment. I noticed the discrepancies on the receipt. When I tried to report it to the manager, he ignored me and continued with what sounded like personal phone call. It took us 20min to reimburse her method of payment. Of course this made us late for her chemotherapy. The hospital was in the process of canceling her appointment. Can you believe that. read more

This is my go to grocery store. The prefect size and very affordable prices. The staff is wonderful! I've always had positive interactions with them. The store does tend to get pretty busy at times but I've waited more than 10 minutes in the check out line; the staff is very efficient! The one downside is that they have frequent shortages of certain items. But the prices and quality customer service is amazing make up for that! read more

I really like this store. Of course the prices are great but there are a number of reasons to shop there. The location is convenient and there is plenty of parking in the back. For people who bus, there are several buses that run nearby. I am more a fruit and veggie person and the selection and freshness is excellent. The meats I have bought have been fresh and nicely packaged. I come all the way from Bellevue to shop there and it's worth the distance. The staff is always friendly and amazingly fast. I like the idea of bringing my own bag(s) which makes for savings and less plastic bags polluting our environment. The store always looked good but went through a remodel a few months ago. I don't know why, but this store feels bigger and better laid out than other Aldi locations. Maybe it's perception, or maybe it's because this is basically a brand new store build to fit into an urban landscape? Whichever it is, it's nice. I don't feel rushed when I come in here. I feel like I can take my time to pick over the product I want and don't have someone next to me trying to push me out of the way. This particular location seems to be clutter free and well organized. No random products right next to each other. It is also bright in here, doesn't make going grocery shopping feel like a medieval task. All the Aldi product you expect to find is here, plus every so often you stumble upon a brand name item. The only downfall here is the register situation. Sometimes the lines will stretch back into the aisles and only then do they notice they need to open another register or two. read more

I had to update my review, since I was a little misinformed the first time. Aldi DOES sell spinach. Not only the hand-washed bag of spinach, but organic spinach, as well as organic kale and arugula! And for $2.50 a container- you can't really beat it. Here are some other items that Aldi sells for insanely cheap that I LOVE: Their spices- you CANNOT beat $1 for garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon and Italian seasoning. Every spice I have tried, I love. These spices at other grocery stores would cost you triple. Chicken broth- $1.79 for a carton of organic low sodium chicken broth?! A steal. I used to buy this at Trader Joe's for over $2 a carton.. now I won't go back. PRODUCE- The produce is always fresh- baby portabella mushrooms, gala apples, avocados, pineapple... I love it all. Baking staples- organic sugar, flour, baking soda... all MUCH cheaper than other grocery stores. Their simply nature line is absolutely amazing and I haven't been disappointed yet. Look out for their in-store specials! I grabbed two bags of hamburger buns for just 50 cents each right before memorial day weekend! Insane! On a week's worth of fresh produce and other random items, I almost ALWAYS spend under $20 at Aldi. So awesome! read more

Good place for quality organic produce. Bad time to shop on Sunday. They were stocking, so huge forklifts blocked several aisles. Still, the stores are big, bright, and spotless. Today's bargain: birdbath, 2'4" high, for $7.49 (was $9.99, I think). Last week, my bargain was a 3pack of kiwi ($.89). No 3 packs today. I didn't even see kiwi. Today, Monday, they just restocked kiwi: $.99/ 4 pack. Ahh! Luscious lunch! They have a delicious hummus ($1.99/10 oz.tub), and my favorite is roasted garlic (break out the breath mints). It comes in other flavors, like classic, and a spicy jalapeno, and a roasted red pepper. Best price on baking soda ($.49/box). That, and white vinegar ($.79/ 16 oz. bottle). Been using a 50/50 ratio of white vinegar to water for years. It's a natural, non toxic (to people and pets) disinfectant and cleanser for everything: bath, kitchen, cutting boards, baby's room, etc. Disinfects in washer, too. Pour in 1cup for a large load, with your detergent. Kills laundry odors, too. read more

Debit or cash! Byo bag, or reuse an emptied box. No frills warehouse style, many house brands, some big brands. Historically I was impressed with inexpensive good produce mid winter. I enjoy the vanilla Greek yogurt, the cheeses, and bread is good as any processed supermarket variety. I switched to their peanut butter, and enjoy the 75/ fruit jam! Don't expect to find EVERYTHING here, but it's worth a trip at least once. Who doesn't like a company that pays their people well? read more

Aldi still owns my heart. I live 3 blocks from this location and I love it. Here are some things I purchase from Aldi: baking items (flour, sugar, baking soda ect), vinegar, spices, milk, eggs, bread (their honey wheat is good), mushrooms, frozen hash browns, paper towels, canned fruit and veggies, frozen fruit and veggies, sour cream, almond milk, hummus (sometimes) and sometimes i willl pick up produce (hit or miss) ^^^^all of that stuff costs TRIPLE at nearby grocery stores. There is no reason to pay more for basic staples. I will forever be thankful to live nearby this grocery store. I still pick up brand named bread, cereal, and check meat deals at other grocery stores or the strip district.. aldi is always my first stop though. read more

Convenient, clean and a dedicated parking lot off Carson = win! This place is located near the action of Southside Works. The parking lot is in the back and normally bustling with in an out traffic so there's always a good parking spot available. In the summer months especially, I've noticed the majority if not all carts outside in the stall so it's a good idea to grab one before you head in. Aldi has its staples but they also have special buys which offer some spectacular deals. Sometimes, the meat case can be pretty bare and they may not have the specific item I need. Not a complaint, just fyi but for this reason it's tough to do all of my shopping here without the need to visit, say Market District or Shop n Save. read more

I only shop at Aldi! With it being one of the two options in Southside, it's much more cost effective and has all the staples you need in a shopping trip. The produce obviously depends on the time of year, but there is usually a good selection of fruits and veggies at very reasonable prices. The cheese selection (wine and cheese parties anyone?) is fantastic! There are always several kinds of fancy and plain cheese to choose from. The home good isle... well... that's danger. There is always something there that just seems like you need it! Weight sets? Yep, probably need that. Kitchen utensils? Sure, why not. Kids games? They make great gifts! If you are an impulse buyer, beware... that isle will get you every time! The parking lot is only full during really crazy shopping times (usually right after work) but there is also street parking surrounding Aldi. The staff are friendly and efficient, making a good supermarket sweep an option to get in and out quickly! read more

Screw Giant Eagle! I'm done... well, until I need a hard to find item. But still, I'm done with buying the basics at GE. I'll admit, I'd heard the rumors. Cheap grocery shopping, especially the produce. But I never had easy access to an Aldi. Then one magically opened up across from my gym and the spending too much money on overpriced groceries ended (well, at least on groceries, clothes are another story!). It's everything and more! Although it's mostly their generic brands, it's a-okay with me, they all taste the same. I especially love the produce! Lots of fresh and beautiful looking fruits and veggies. It really is amazing the prices compared to the other stores. An avocado goes for almost $4 at GE and here you can get it for around $2. Half the price! The thing I was surprised to see is a nice selection of frozen foods. I've been buying a bulk amount of frozen veggies, just so the fresh doesn't go bad, and they have a good variety. I buy a bulk bag of salmon filets here with around 12-15 per bag for under $10 and at GE I bought a bag with 4 pieces for around $12! Cray! I also thought their cheese selection is decent too. I mean, you won't find fancy pants cheese, but if you're a cheese-aholic, you'll be pleasantly surprised. There's even Almond Milk! I mean, it's surprising what you can find here. I can walk out with a full two weeks of the essentials for around $40. Again, cray! read more

You can't go in to Aldi expecting to get your entire grocery haul done in one go, but you an definitely put a dent in it without denting your pocketbook. As everyone else has mentioned, bring a quarter ($0.25) if you want a cart and don't freak out, because you will get it back. I will also reiterate that you need to bring your own bag(s) or be prepared to shell out a few cents for the bags that Aldi sells at the register. The selection is surprisingly good at Aldi, especially for snacks! They have a great variety of trail mixes and snack bars, that are the same as popular brand name items. Rumor has it that most of their stuff comes off the same production lines and just has a different name on it. I will not purchase meat from Aldi because I know for a fact that you get what you pay for in that department. Just search the web and you will see some unsettling comparisons of chickens from Aldi versus chickens from a regular store. There is a reason their meats are cheap. Their produce is very hit or miss, but is a miss more times than a hit. If I need 5 or 6 fruits/vegetables, I can typically pick up 1 or 2 that look okay for consumption at Aldi. That being said, I am very selective about my produce and will pass over asparagus if the stems look too woody for my taste. I have had good experience with the blackberries at Aldi. I am a bit hesitant to share this secret, but the Light & Fit string cheese is amazing. Legitimately the best string cheese ever. Get it. Love it. Don't buy the last package when I am coming or I'll be very upset. I get a lot of canned/dry goods at Aldi and usually find what I need, but occasionally fall short. They have a lot of items, but you might not be able to be particular. For example, you may want mild tomatoes/green chiles and they only carry regular. They also probably won't carry special variations of items like reduced sugar ketchup. This is a pain point shared with Costco. There have been several 'misses' from this grocery store, of items that were not good. What comes to mind are the gelato, ice cream bars, cheddar cheese blocks and off-brand chewing gum. If you want my advice, the best plan is to go in for dry/canned goods and snacks and buy anything fresh/frozen elsewhere. Cash or debit only. Don't be that clown that tries to swipe their AMEX at the register. Happens. Every. Time. read more

Best Grocery Store in the South Side. Why? Cause it's reasonably priced, you don't have to wait in line forever, the cashiers are nice and attentive (and make EYE CONTACT, GASP!). Always great parking spots, very close to my house, I get a quarter back every time I put a quarter in (irrelevant). Yes, there are some drawbacks like the meat selection could be better and more of a selection of fresh foods in general, but I'm no foodie. Just the basics like spinach, eggs and frozen corn dogs for me. Yes, I do have to go to the dreaded Giant Eagle at times, but man, oh, man do I hate life when I do. Sure, Trader Joe's is awesome, BUT it's on the other side of town and they charge too much for the amount of food you get. No, I do not shop at Whole Foods. Just No. Aldi, that's it. By far the friendliest place to shop. The employees are amazing here! The prices are very reasonable and I have made Aldi my #1 stop for my weekly groceries. As others have said, they don't have everything so you will still have to shop at GE or SnS, but for the value it cannot be beat! Put nose to nose with the same advertising inflated commercial household brands, Aldi products taste the same if not better. I really like how they have a revolving selection of houseware goods for sale. I recently bought some strawberry plants here and they are doing amazing. My only complaint are their hours. I wish they would open at 6 or 7 am. Remember to bring some bags or if you buy them at the store, remember to put them back in your car before you go shopping. I often forget LOL! read more

You still may have to go to GE for some things ( and they still may not have them ) but you can really get pretty much anything you need at Aldi for a great price. Eggs are cheap, Giant Frozen Pizzas are cheap, Canned and Fresh veg are cheap, and Bread and Coffee are cheap ( but you can probably save enough money here to go a splurge at a coffee roasters or bakery on these goods). You can even get a pretty good deal on household items for the kitchen and bath like storage bins, scales, blenders, and electric heaters that look like fireplaces. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: Basic spices are ample and cheap. Just make sure to bring a quarter to rent a shopping cart and your own shopping bags if you do not want to buy any (which I agree with and always forget to do) read more

I've never been to an Aldi before so let me summarize the points of surprise for those who are also newbies. You have to put a $0.25 deposit down to get a shopping cart unlocked. There are not even hand baskets to use, though you can take boxes off the shelves. You have to pay $0.06 cents for bags upon leaving or bring your own. You cannot use credit cards - debit or cash only. These "amenity" cuts have pushed prices down for what it is worth. The store is slightly small. There was a good coverage of all food categories, but Aldi is definitely not a big box or specialty store and fresh items are limited. The store was clean and neat. I'd say Aldi is somewhere I'd run in to get a specific, perhaps advertised item, but since they don't take credit card never mind. read more

I must be a big dummy face as I don't get the allure the allure of shopping here. I walk in and go to grab a cart... it needs a quarter. Wait what? All I want is a shopping cart. Ok well maybe I'll just grab a basket... No basket? Ok so maybe I'll just get a couple things and go to Giant Eagle later. Walk around and the organization of the store doesn't make sense. Random items sprinkled here. No name brands. Everything is cheap yes but how do I trust something that I've never heard of? Grab myself a bag of frozen chicken, some frozen veggies, some garlic powder and voila got some dinner. Walk to the check out counter, theres only 1 lane open and 3 people waiting, i see employees walk around and you'd think theyd open up a second lane but nope. They scan my goods I give them my credit card, okay bagging time... wait no bags? how am i supposed to carry my stuff? Oh I should've known to bring my own bags. Thanks for telling me. I walk out about to drop my stuff and realize, Aldi, for all intensive purposes made a seemingling simple process of grocery shopping, difficult. I never knew you could bungle up an operation like this. I complain all the time that giant eagles costs are going up. But looking at fuel prices rise it only makes sense that their costs go up so so do ours. It's a function of and giant eagle still has some good sales. Aldi's to the rescue! Thank goodness for reasonable priced food! Being on a budget makes going to the nearby GE stressful. ( 5 items for $25 no thank you!) for $25 I got enough food for a weeks worth of meals! Did research and found out that the "off brands" are actually the national brands in disguise! ie. It is actually Heinz ketchup and Helmann's mayonnaise! Repackaged for sale at discount stores! Crackers are Ritz! Read the labels its says packed and distributed by Aldi's Batavia,IL. Checkout cashiers are FAST! Lines go quick! Reason for the quarter in shopping cart= people will return carts and keep parking lots clear to get their quarter back= lower food costs so they don't have to pay another employee to do it! BRILLIANT! Remember to pick up an empty box around the store while your shopping to carry your goods to the car or simply pay ten cents for nice quality plastic reusable bags! I never yelp, ever. I started shopping at Aldi when they first arrived, but only used to find about 5 things and shop at GE for the rest. I don't know what they've done since, either they got better product or they slowly changed my grocery shopping needs, but now I get 5 things at GE and the rest at Aldi. I just had a baby and he has a special no dairy, not nut, no soy, and no egg need which is my diet since I breast feed. Aldi's is where I can get my bread products (most don't use the things I can't have) along with so many products that other stores just don't match up. It's been a savior for me! Thank you! The only issue that shopping here has caused is a fight over the ketchup when I brought a non-Heinz product into the house of a yinzer (blasphemy). If I could give this grocery store 0 stars, I would. But, the parking is decent for an urban grocer so I guess I can settle for 1. I've been yelping off-and-on since like 2009 and I will never understand how some folks can be so generous with ratings... Aldi as a company deserves 4 stars, sure, but this location? Please call the Health Department. I went on a Sunday morning. The store was a mess. The product displays were out of sorts and there was trash in the buggies. The creamers had broken in their container and grabbing one made my hands sticky. The worst part was the egg display. Outside of the cooler was an egg cart with half broken eggs that had seeped out of the containers. The inside one was the same way. It was, hands down, the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I tried to bring it to the attention of the store manager but the guy doing the check out was not willing to help me. A call to Aldi corporate--I didn't get a call back. read more

I love Aldi. They have very reasonable prices, there selection is decent. There own brand products are very good. ( The ones I have tried at least). The employees for the most part are very nice, and helpful. At times they have some really interesting and reasonably priced seasonal merchandise. I love the cream pies around holidays, and this year I got two beautiful Bonsai Trees, and a Japanese Maple tree for an incredible price. They feature different ice cream novelties at times that are really delicious. Your staples are very reasonable priced, and I noticed they are starting to carry more organic products. The organic bananas are delicious and very reasonably priced. The stores are clean, well ordered. Make sure you bring your bags though , as they don't provide them, although you can buy them very cheaply at the store. I think Aldi's is definitely giving the other stores a run for their money, and helping me put more money in my pocket. read more
