I walked from my sister Vi's and mine apartment on Broadway Ave. in Beechview (a block past the old Foodland) all the way to Kuhn's in Dormont many days. If I had a lot of bags I'd take the T home. I recall many a day getting a good aerobic workout lugging a 50 lb. backpack plus extra bags of food in both hands up that huge hill! I loved walking through picturesque Dormont Park. Our mother used to live near the top of McFarland Rd. so I'd often walk to Kuhn's for her and then walk back. Kuhn's is much smaller than some of the gargantuan supermarkets like the Brentwood Giant Eagle (which is now our home store) or Costco, but they have just about everything you need. Their seafood is fresh. I love their homemade specialty hoagies, so fresh and delicious. Shop 'n Save used to carry similar hoagies but stopped making them. At least the Carrick one did. Kuhn's deli is excellent. They are one of the few stores to carry the delicious Boar's Head brand deli meats. I like Giant Eagle's brand Dietz & Watson, but I prefer Boar's Head. Their aged provolone (picante - slightly sharp flavor) is wonderful. I must also mention Kuhn's ready-made fried chicken. It is my favorite out of all the various stores chicken. I have fond memories of shopping at Kuhn's. We still go there once or twice a month. Give them a try! read more

Really disappointing. The place smells like raw meat when you walk in the door: it just hits you. I bought all my groceries at local markets but I needed chuck roast which was marked for 8.99lb, saw a pork roast for 2.99 a pound. When I got to the register she said oh the chuck roast is on sale for 5.99. I said I didn't see a sign, she said there isn't one, you just have to bring it to the register and then we'll take it off. I said and how am I supposed to know it is on sale? she said its in circular when you walk in the door. Who reads those if you're not an avid Kuhn's shopper or if you're just coming in for a few items? The prices were no better than giant eagle. Upon walking in, I was greeted with welcomes and the smells of fresh produce. The warmth of the staff and music rivaled the gales of November and had me ship wrecked with appreciation. The Cashiers helped me locate multiple drink selections on their own accord, without prompting. I found everything I needed, including a renewed sense of purpose. The parking is not that good as it is a very busy parking lot and not a lot of spots. The store is well stocked and I was able to get everything I needed. I have been using curbside grocery pickup since the pandemic hit ... started with GE and was thrilled when Kuhns started offering it. It's easy and you can edit your order too -- which I tend to do A lot :). The distaff is quickly and friendly when they come to the car - only had one issue and the poor girl was new so can not complain as they handled it well. My only complaint - there are three spots out front of the store - clearly marked but used by shoppers to lazy to find a spot and walk .. there have been times I had to circle the lot - kuhns does not really police the spots. Wish they enforced more those spot usage. Give the service a try -- you will be happy u did! read more

I shop Kuhn's all the time. Today I went to the bakery to order a half sheet cake and was told they aren't taking orders. Checking out I said to the cashier how disappointed I was and she responded that she didn't know about them refusing orders. The cashier involved the manager who also didn't know about not taking orders. After waiting a while the manager asked for my number so he could call and tell me if they could make one. Thank goodness I have three more days to get a cake from Giant Eagles. Giant Eagles may be a few cents more, but, they are reliable. I will no longer driving past Giant Eagles to shop at Kuhn's. We do need more reliable grocery stores in Pittsburgh read more

Bought ribs here a few weeks ago. Opened the up today and they were yellow??? Returned them and meat dept refused to refund money as I didn't have. Receipt even though the label clearly said khuns.....I just left the diseases meat there and off to giant eagle to buy nice baby backs....great job khuns losing a customer after only 1 experience. The supermarket of my youth. Well my early 20s. It was a place my friends and I would often shop at if we didn't items for our apartment. Hasn't changed much. It's old and feels dirty and I don't think they have plans to update. Workers are miserable. Selection is bad and prices are too high on many items. read more

So I have to ask myself, why don't I shop here more often? My family and I tend to shop at Giant Eagle, partly because of the large size of their stores and partly because of their GetGo rewards. Kuhn's has somehow become the place we stop when we don't have time to drive to Giant Eagle. Which is totally a shame, because whenever I DO stop in here I'm reminded about how nice the place actually is. Today a simple trip for milk turned into a fall-themed decoration shopping spree that went really well (yay super cute owl pillows!) and I ended up picking some breakfast and lunch items as well just because of how cheap they were. I know from past experience that the produce is fresh, and between the wonderful aroma and colorful display the bakery here is absolutely torturous to pass. There's also a ready-made dinner/lunch shelf with sandwiches, chicken wings, pizzas and a few dessert items if you want to grab those on your way out; I've actually gotten dinner here a few times on my way home from the city when I was too tired to cook. What's not to like about affordable and delicious food, right? However, there is at least one thing that does keep me from wanting to be a regular here and giving Kuhn's a 5 star review: the blasted parking lot you have to deal with to go here, which I've cursed in other reviews. This lot is the one that fills up super quickly, creates miniature traffic jams like no one's business, and is a time-stealing trap. Sigh. Suddenly I think I understand why my family always goes to Giant Eagle. Sorry, Kuhn's. Your prices are wonderful, your set-up fantastic, and your options well varied and impressive. Extremely ignorant employee in the lunch meat section named Summer. Avoid her like the plague. She is very ignorant and will ignore you. She will always give you the wrong order of lunch meat. I have dealt with her 3X now and she thinks it's a joke messing with peoples orders. If you ask for something that is on sale make sure you check the amount and the price because it will more than likely be wrong and when you ask her about it she will be extremely agitated, ignorant and act like it's your fault after you told her 3-4 times exactly what you want. This has been the story the last 3X I've been there and moving forward I will still shop there but my lunch meat needs will be purchased from anywhere else but there. I have also heard her treat other customers like crap as well. I understand needing employees but when someone that obviously doesn't want to be there acts like that you need to get rid of them and get employees that actually want to work. Last time I go to that lunch meat counter because every time I go there she waits on me and it is very frustrating because I know my order will be wrong. January 24th 2022 she of course got the wrong stuff again and another employee fixed it for me and then apologized that she acted like that. I was on a mission to get a certain brand of deli meat that is only sold at Kuhn's-some roast beef & Turkey breast. This awesome gentleman waited on me (Emmett-I pay attention!) I have haven't been treated this courteously and kindly by an employee in AGES!(and I've been around a long time!) This young man went out of his way to help me choose what would suit me best--and he was right! He recommended a different brand than what I went for but it is delicious! He offered me a sample and I didn't feel rushed in making my decision. This man is a GEM and he deserves manager status just for his excellent customer service alone-or at least a big raise! Seriously-I'm impressed and this store is worth the trip from Ingram just for the service alone. I'd like to mention that all the foods were nicely presently and the store-although a tad pricier than other chain stores-is well worth my time and money. the 2nd star is for how much I used to like them. But boy what a nose dive! First, they do away with their rewards system and replace it with something that only puts a few items on sale each week.{Many of us lost our rewards because we were saving for a higher tier. } In turn they raise many of the other prices. Next they decide to renovate the store, but instead of doing it on off hours or shut down for a few days, the do it over an extended (more than a month already) time period, There were times were it was a serious safety risk to step around wires, dodge ladders or have to duck under plastic sheeting to get what you need. For the first few weeks it was scavenger hunt as items were moved each time I went in. Things were not placed logically. Finally a new trend were they are not keeping things stocked well. Sometimes an items is missing for 5 days are more before being replaced. I live close and relied and loved Kuhns, not so anymore. read more

Thank God for Kuhn's. Seriously, after having to survive on Foodland, the only "neighborhood" grocery store in Mt. Washington, this is a welcome change. I actually was excited to move to Dormont knowing we'd potentially have a better place to grocery shop locally. Kuhn's has absolutely surpassed Foodland. It's clean, has most everything I need and it's at the right price. I'm actually surprised how much variety they offer in such a "small" space. Small being the operative word, considering most Giant Eagle's are ginormous. I've even discovered new products here, like my delicious Lara Fiber Bars. I'm surprised at the nice gourmet cheese selection, the big deli area and even a counter for fresh seafood. So now I can just run down the block if I need to pick up something quick or do my whole week's shopping here. It's glorious! The only thing I wish for is a better parking lot. Since I'm coming off Dwight Ave it's nice to sneak right in. But coming out is another issue. There's only one way traffic around the parking lot. So you're usually stuck waiting behind cars trying to park and pull out. This is very minor though... just an impatient person talking here. The main point.. it's WAY cheaper than Giant Eagle! I have a lot of pros and cons for this place. I'm disappointed that they ended the rewards program, and I fear prices are going to increase as a result of the recent remodeling. I am a fan of the self check-out and the roomier feel of the store, especially near the deli and bakery. One thing that really irks me though - please teach the baggers how to correctly bag. When I forget to bring my own bags, I'll frequently get bags that have ONE item in them. They really have no idea what they are doing. read more

The food is fine, but the employees are awful. It's conveniently close to me and I used to shop here all the time... I would start shopping here more if they would hire people who were friendly and actually did their job... I drive out of my way just so I don't have to deal with the rude staff. The cashiers NEVER acknowledge me. Never a "hello" or even eye contact and I swear EVERY single time I go thru the check out line there is a different creepy, pervy old bagger that tries hitting on me. I once saw an elderly customer load her groceries on a conveyer belt only for the cashier to push the woman's stuff away, rudely tell her to go to another line simply because she had 2 more items than what the express lane of "12 items or less." I mean come on!!! The cashier had NO other people to wait on behind her. She was too busy gossiping with her coworker to be bothered to do her job. The poor woman gathered her things and had to stand behind me and I had a full cart. I let her go in front of me as any decent person would do, and gave the cashier the most disgusting look I could give. I've witnessed so much inappropriate behavior by the cashiers, that I now only go there if I'm in an absolute hurry. The deli staff is always rude as well. My fault for going shopping on a Sunday night after a big Steeler game. Shelves wiped clean! Lol This review is based on all of my many other visits... On the real, this store is convenient because they are always open and not too far from my house. They have a decent bakery section with lots of fresh bread that actually expires and turn colors when it starts to age...like it's supposed to. (I'm very happy about that---see my :) They also have some good sales on any given week and the folks are quite friendly here. Unlike Market District, which I love, I appreciate the hometown feel of this store. There's a community board at the entry where businesses or individuals can post events or things for sale. There's ample parking and it's easy to get in, grab your groceries and get out. read more

Have you seen the Thor movie? Are you least somewhat familiar with the Marvel comics character? No, I refuse to believe that you know a guy named Thor. No, I'm sorry. You could injure combatants with them, block projectiles with them. Not really. They're just too soft, egregiously ooey gooey... Coconut is the most underappreciated cookie ingredient. If some bakery in the East End were selling these cookies, there'd be at least 50 reviews of them by now, but no, these cookies can only be found in a supermarket in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, the forbidden land where hipster angels fear to tread. Make the journey. They also have a terrific potato salad that can be gotten from their deli. Order a pint to go along with your cookies and some Schneider's Iced Tea to wash it all down, and you'll make a startling transformation! read more

In the heat of the Summer months, they get a lot of their produce from local farmers, they buy local meats, dairy, and charcuterie. Kuhn's seems like they pride themselves on being a "Family" themed grocery store. I've been to Kuhn's quite a few times, since they are located so close to me, and have found their products to be much more expensive than other grocery stores, and I understand that they take pride in what they offer to their customers and buy their produce locally. But, to me, as a cheap ass, I don't care how they get their products, all I really care about is the price. And their prices are too expensive. The store itself is very small and cramped, I get confused very easily as to where to find some products. I do like the friendly atmosphere inside Kuhn's though, all of the employees seem really nice and are eager to please and talk to you, and for that I'll give them three stars. But other than the friendliness, I'm going to Aldi, where stuff is MUCH cheaper.. read more

Great small grocer! Giant Eagle offers a lot of things, but they don't offer me everything I am looking for when I go shopping. Kuhn's, on the other hand, offers all of those little idiosyncrasies and nuances that I look for that I cannot find anywhere else. The biggest thing for me is the fact that they carry Boar's Head brand luncheon meats. I really don't know how anyone eats any other brand of luncheon meat since they all just taste so stale in comparison. I can tell that a higher number of Italian-American folk patronize this store as well. Why? The pasta selection is awesome. I despise the typical noodles carried everywhere else; but here I can find the noodles that I have grown to love. Getting beyond the reasons above, I do enjoy the store as a whole and the fact that I can find what I am looking for. I will definitely be returning; I just have to make certain to be careful of the parking situation since this particular store's parking lot layout is prone to jamming. The store has great selection of health drinks, meats, and vegetables. Their selection of cheeses is at best "American" or simple italian cheeses. I wish that you would get a different vender for your fresh parmesean cheese wedges because it is mostly rind with very little cheese which is very dissappointing. I love however that you sell unsalted beef and chicken stocks and your recent decision to put in a sushi bar i thought was outstanding. As far as the hot foods section goes i can understand selling fish during lent but the hot foods bar has very little variation. Never in stock on deli items. Always running out of sale items especially in Deli, Seafood, and Meats. Dropped the ball on more than one occasion with meat orders being lost. Manager Rob is helpless and never addresses or resolves problems. Kevin doesn't take corrective action. Only saving grace is the lively and wonderful employees at the bakery. Cashiers always looking at their phones, slow, having personal conversations with each other while waiting on you, sometimes even shouting across different lanes to each other. Texting. you can't beat a fairly centrally-located grocery store that is open 24-7 BUTTT the smell in there is ughhh. Years and years of spilled food / blood from the meat department and etc. You get the picture . The high-point is perhaps the hot foods that you can get over in the deli.-area. My main grocery store. I hate pretty much all of the grocery stores around here. Giant Eagle is overpriced, and Aldi has terrible selection. I like Trader Joe's, but it's really a place to get a few special items that can't be found elsewhere. Kuhn's on the other hand, is just a good standard grocery store that has all of the basics. I've been happy with Kuhn's produce, and it's a good place to stock up on some things. One criticism is that they really need to redo their bathrooms. And more importantly, do a better job cleaning them. I'd never go in there if I could avoid it, but every once in a while my kid really needs to go and I don't want to deal with an accident. read more
