Squirrel Hill Farmer's Market

Squirrel Hill Farmer's Market

Squirrel Hill

This is the best farmers market I've been to in Pittsburgh. I'm sad I didn't come across it sooner,…read morebut it's my go-to Sunday activity now and I'm making up for lost time! The farms that bring their produce to this market have some of the most beautiful produce I've come across locally. There also seems to be *more* produce compared to some other farmers markets in town. There are plenty of other great vendors selling things like meat, fresh bread, coffee beans, pastries etc. It's a wonderful way to stock up on fresh goods for the week. Shoutout to all the local vendors who make this market a real gem.

My favorite Sunday activity! The squirrel hill farmers market has lots of fresh produce and also…read moreready to eat food. Plus they have other bonus items besides food like fresh flowers, soap, and more! The fresh produce offered changes slightly depending on what is in season, but there is always something great to buy! I never leave unsatisfied. Many vendors accept cash, Venmo, and credit cards. There is also a tent where you can use your EBT or credit/ debit card to exchange for tokens if one vender is unable to take card. All the vendors but one except the tokens as payment. Like other farmers markets, there really isn't much seating except for a few public benches. If you do get ready to eat food it is usually not hard to eat while walking or standing. My go to favorite is the gyro! Overall a great stop for a bite to eat and quality farm fresh produce!

Shenot Farm was founded by the Shenot family in the 1800s. Generations of family members raised…read moreanimals and grew produce. Today, family members grow vegetables such as corn and fruits such as apples. According to the family's website, they use both conventional and organic farming practices. On the farm's website, I also read that throughout the year, Shenot Farm offers events such as hayrides; pick-your-own flowers, apples, and pumpkins; and pumpkin-smashes. In the autumn they sell flowers, pumpkins, cornstalks, Thanksgiving turkeys, and fruit baskets, and in the winter they sell Christmas trees and wreaths. On a Saturday, my husband and I visited this farm's market to browse their foods. We parked our vehicle in their free parking lot. Inside the market, we saw foods such as lettuce, cabbage, green beans, brussels sprouts, beets, plums, sausages, chicken meats, eggs, milk, cheeses, apple ciders, cookies, pies, fudges, popcorns, jams, bread loaves, bagels, seasonings, sauces and dressings, salsas, applesauces, syrups, dessert mixes, granolas, teas, honeys, ice creams, etcetera! We also saw some non-food items such as candles and t-shirts. I selected an orange-colored "cheddar" cauliflower head, apple crisp mix, caramel-apple-pie fudge, and jars of banana butter, strawberry jelly, and apple butter. My husband and I had not previously eaten a few of the unique products, so we felt excited to try them. At the checkout counter, an employee promptly greeted us, accurately rang up our purchase, carefully bagged our foods, and thanked us. Each food cost roughly several dollars.

I love this place! They have a great assortment of unique jams, sauces and all the fruits and…read morevegetables are fresh. Grandkids loved the hayride last year too.
