I've known about this place for a long time but had never really stopped by. My new found growing baby belly had me on auto pilot for donuts this morning! Personally I am not a huge fan of Krispy Kreme as most of their donuts are too sweet for me. I don't like zero sweet but, I don't like overly sweet. I ordered a jelly filled, a chocolate iced, a cinnamon twist, and an apple turn over. In my opinion they have a great mix for a range of sweetness pallets. The iced chocolate was perfect! Amazing and airy, light, and chocolatey! The service was also amazing. They were out of jelly filled however; they had some just out of the oven. Somebody farther up mentioned Johnny's Donuts in Dublin. When I was in Dubln High (class of '76), we spent a lot of "class time" (in other words. we cut class and then got a giant donut to bribe the teacher wih) hanging out at Johnny's. They're good, but nothing compares to my childhood forays with my cop Grandpa to Winchell's at 3:00 A.M., right when the donuts came out of the fryer. Oh. My. God. That all having been said, Giant makes a good donut. I especially love their giant glazed twists. I've gone at all hours, and they always have a decent selection of goodies. The staff is very friendly, the donuts last a few days (I just wrap them in a damp paper towel and microwave them for 10 seconds or so), and their prices are very good. I had to take away 2 stars because this place is not what it use to be. I think there's New owners. They no longer offer those delicious muffins and their donuts no longer look fluffy and appetizing. I have gone here since I was a little girl. They're donuts are always fresh and their price are great. It is a family owned business and the owner is the sweetest man. Throughout the years we have never had any problems here. They have a wide variety of donut from donut holes to chocolate bars to big cinnamon rolls. Donut wise, this place is great. I've been going here since I was 4 years old and it's never let me down,but, BUT, do NOT order any drinks there. I love coffee and generally I'm pretty forgiving if it's burnt or a little bitter as long as it's still coffee. However, I finally got around to getting a mocha from here and it is literally just warmed milk. No coffee, not even any chocolate. My drink is completely white and tasteless. Maybe it was just a fluke but I've never been more disappointed with coffee in my life and I will never order any from there again. Decent donuts, apathetic owners. I've been to this location at least 8 times. Each time Ive gone the employees just stand there and stare at you. No hello, no thank you, nothing. I asked if they had maple bars and she said no, so I asked if they had some cooking and she replies "just get a maple ring". Also, I order a large coffee and she just stands there, so I remind her I ordered a coffee and she says "Yes, the big one" and then continues to stare at me. So then I reach past her and grab a cup from the stack behind the counter. She acts so put out over everything! I've been able to get hot and fresh donuts many times, and most of them were enjoyable, but these owners make me want to go elsewhere. They really make you feel unwelcome. read more

It is true, Giant Donuts has awesome donuts! There is a great variety and they almost always have what we went in to get. There are two drawbacks to Giant. One is that they charge extra if you use anything but cash. I know they have their swipe fees and have to make up for it somehow, but it gets my goat every time. It just seems tacky to me that they would do this. The other complaint I have is their service. I don't think I've ever been smiled at in that place. The lady who usually helps me has a permanent disgusted look on her face and I always feel like I am somehow wasting her time. But I keep going back because their donuts are so good! read more

I came here based on reviews, and I must say I'm quite impressed. These donuts were fresh, not too sweet, and melted in the mouth. I took a dozen for others to try, and everyone was impressed as well. They were delicious. Normally I go to Livermore Donut Wheel, but now I don't have to go that far, or wait until I go through Livermore to get donuts. These donuts are interesting, as they are kind of flat, but I can understand why, as they almost collapse between your fingers as you pick them up. They got a bit of crisp to the shell, but melt in your mouth. I say try them, see what you think. read more

**WARNING** **WARNING** (This is my first Yelp review. It is important that others know that what is being consumed is potentially harmful) My family will NEVER buy/eat from here again. The last donuts we had were this past weekend. Within about an hour, both my young daughter and husband were doubled over. They BOTH got food poisoning after eating a cake donut. While my daughter was able to recover fairly quickly after only eating a portion of her donut, unfortunately, after throwing up ALL DAY (9am to 9:30pm), I had to take my Husband to the Emergency Room. I went to Giants because of some of the reviews and wanted a change from Safeway. First, the woman working there is consistent with the other reviews. She acted like she didn't want to be bothered. First, they are definitely heavy, greasy and left me with an after-taste. Safeway on Balfour has some of the best donuts in Brentwood area. Yes, there is a difference in Safeways, so the Balfour location seems to have it dialed in as far as taste. Not alot of cake variety's, but hands-down has this place beat. Won't go back. read more

I have been going there since we moved to Oakley,and never had problem. Now on 9-23-12 i go there and go home only to find Donuts that taste like 2day old donuts called to ask what happened and was told that the old baker retired who baked wonderful Donuts. The new baker did not bake good nor o.k. donuts, they where just plain bad donuts, Giant knew this and still sold them. A product that was way over cooked. Not light not fluffy but heavy like a rock. I myself will never buy there again. felt I mislead by a dishonest bakery. I called to let them and they informed me that they knew this was a problem and the baker had only been there a day.
