Storytime: my husband, tallest son, and future DIL were in Bend this weekend for a concert…read moreFriday/Saturday (WSMFP!) and on Sunday they were having trouble deciding where to go for a nice dinner. So much trouble that my men got hangry... naturally they called mom for assistance. Yelp led me to RBC, so I called to see if they could accommodate a last minute reservation. JoJo answered the phone and we laughed about how motherhood is never-ending (in a good way) and she managed to slot them into an immediate table. By the time they arrived, she had bread on the table and made them feel like VIPs (thank you lady!) Garrett came over as they were perusing the wine list and helped with selection (thank you sir!) & chatted with them for a good while. All three of them said it was the best meal they had on the trip, and my hubby told me this morning that he thinks it was the best restaurant he's ever been to & the most perfectly cooked steak! High praise indeed. They also shared (and loved) the escargot, salad with blue cheese, popovers, squid ink linguini, and the mixed grill. A lovely family-style experience. I was jealous from afar! Hubby has promised to take me back the next time we're in Bend (DMB?) and I am inordinately excited! Thanks again guys, you really turned their night around.

Stopped by this modern steakhouse in Bend to celebrate my partner's birthday! We had a reservation…read moreand were quickly seated. Our server was not personable at all, which was a bit uncomfortable at times. Inside is very chic and it felt like the right setting for an intimate birthday dinner. We started our meal with the hush puppies, and we each ordered a steak and side. I opted for the hangar steak while my partner went with the Kansas City, both of these cuts were new to us. The hangar steak was nice and tender with a meaty flavor. It was delicately topped with finishing salt and each bite was decadent. For our starter and sides, we both raved about the hush puppies and corn ribs - so creative! We'd skip the papas bravas next time - nothing special. I also ordered the cowboy butter but honestly the steak was plenty flavorful on its own. No enhancements needed. Overall, I'm glad that we got a unique steakhouse experience. RBC will nickle and dime you for everything on the table, which is understandable for the quality, but the service is so lackluster and stall. No birthday acknowledgement at the end either.

My boys love to go horseback riding, but it was a bit of a challenge arranging it during our visit…read moreto Bend. Most of the places we've gone to in the past (Crooked River Ranch and Eagle Crest Resort) were closed this summer, so we decided to make the drive to the Seventh Mountain Resort by Mt. Bachelor. We had a terrible experience trying to make a reservation. So up to the actual trail ride, I would give them one or two stars for the administrative side of the business. Nonresponsive by phone, a bit disorganized in person and they overcharged us for the ride until we called the discrepancy to their attention. Once we got on the horses, things improved from there, slightly. The ride is a bit dusty and not the best we've ever had, but again, there appear to be very few options in the area. Unfortunately on a trail ride your experience is very dependent on other riders and whether they are comfortable and able to control their horse. We had two other riders that almost fell off and unfortunately it really freaked out my son. We've gone to Diane's Riding Place, which I now consider the best in the area, but it is more instructional rather than a trail ride. So at the end of day, a fun family activity, but hopefully others will have a better experience before mounting their steed. They also have adorable miniature ponies at Pony Town, so that would be a hit with little ones.

Probably the hardest saddle I've ever written on and I ridden on a lot of them. We were all sore for days. They should tequite or suggest that you bring a scarf for your nose because the dust is toxic.

This is a cute place with excellent outdoor seating that is inside a hotel. We had a reservation…read moreand were left to stand up at the host stand for a bit. They seemed a bit discombilated. A staff member said they would be back. It was a long while before anyone came back and seated us. They were not busy with diners yet. There were 6 tables. We were seated and ordered coffee. The coffee was good and the server kept the coffee and 1/2 and 1/2 coming. We both ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Bennie for $27 a plate. It took over an hour to get our food. Other folks got their food way more quickly. We are not sure what was up with our food and why it took over an hr for it to come out. We also did not have silverware and had to request it when the food came. For the prices of this place they need to get it together. This place is $$$ spendy for brunch. $27.00 for eggs Bennie and they were pretty stingy with the hollandaise sauce. It was nothing spectacular. The eggs Bennie were decent and the potatoes were tasty. They took 25% off of our meals for our wait and gave us free coffee. As a former server, there is no way I would I make chill diners who did not complain or get mad pay for 75% of their meals after they waited over an hour for their food. This experience does not make me want to come back.
