She takes her time with you and explains things thoroughly. The office is clean and the front desk staff are welcoming. It was an overall awkward appointment and I left feeling like I was unheard and dismissed. The Optometrist did not trust that the contact brand I've worn my whole life was in fact the one that I wanted again. She said I needed to go home and call the front desk to re-confirm once I've had the chance to look at the box again... I have never in my life been asked this before. She said it was "how these things go" and essentially shamed me for not bringing the box in with me even though no one told me to do this when I booked the appointment. Just weird. read more

I LOVED seeing Dr. Martin and team yesterday. I've gone to the same practice since I was a kid up in Northern VA, so finding a new doctor in this area was nerve-wracking. The doctor I saw last year at the Lens Crafters in VB Town Center was just terrible and I left feeling very discouraged. I even contemplated going back to NOVA just for an appointment with my old doctor. So when it was time for my exam this year, I knew I needed to put in the work to find a decent doctor. Ghent Eye Care was suggested to me by a few friends and I figured I'd try them out. The staff is friendly as can be, and Dr. Marin was quick to explain things thoroughly. She and her staff seemed to truly care about getting me in the correct and most appropriate prescription and contact brand. I will absolutely continue going here. read more

I have to brag on Ghent Eye care for a second here! Let me set the scene. . .I was getting dressed for class and I went to put in my contacts. Literally right before I went to put my first one in I was thinking "I need to call Ghent Eye Care and order new ones because I'm about to run out." So, I have my first one all prepped to stick in my eye when. . .I DROP IT DOWN THE DRAIN. The horror. I've been an avid contact wearer (since 6th grade), but I also have glasses so this situation really didn't leave me completely out of luck, but my glasses prescription is old and I just hate wearing them. Long story short, I feverishly called Ghent Eye Care and prayed that they had my particular contacts in stock. They didn't, as they only carry one brand in store, and then order other brands based on customers needs. Even though they don't carry my contact brand in their store they had one spare contact (in the brand that I wear, praise Jesus) and insisted that I come pick it up so I wouldn't have to wait for my package to come in. So, not only did they save me the annoyance of wearing my glasses the whole day, but the contacts that I ordered came in the very next day! Love this place and never have a problem ordering or picking up my prescription contacts! The front desk girls are always so friendly whenever I go in and on the phone as well! read more

Literally the worst experience I have ever had with any doctors office. Made an appointment for my partner and I. It is December 2023 and they still require masks, fine. We put masks on. Next it was time to see the actual doctor and it is my first time needing glasses and getting my eyes tested as an adult so I had questions for the doctor. She could care less about answering any questions I had. Was very uninterested in doing anything other than having me read the letters on the chart and moving me along to get her money. Next is the biggest issue. Ordered and paid for glasses before I left. I was told they would be in around a week. Called 9 days after the appointment to find out that they were never order! They said there was a problem with the website they order from and they were going to order them that day. Why was I not told? Why did I have to call and find out? Now I was told they were ordered that day and I would have them in a week. A week was yesterday. Still no glasses yesterday. Called to check and said they would be here tomorrow. (currently today) Called today at lunch to see if they have arrived and was told they are not even sure if they have been shipped that it just shows them as processing. STAY AWAY. or if you want to just quickly get your eyes tested and order glasses online this place would be fine. read more

A few weeks ago I made an appointment at Ghent Eye Care and had to reschedule because of work. They were very busy and I needed to make my appointment before the new year and the only time that could work was December 30th so I took it. Everything went wonderfully until the end when she wanted to let me try a new pair of lenses for a few days, because I MAY have an astigmatism. Unfortunately, because my father works at Costco I get a MUCH needed voucher for optical that disappears at the end of the year, so I did not have time to wait. As soon as I asked about calling my prescription in earlier, Dr. Martin went from friendly to rude and immediately acted like she did not care about me, a brand new patient. She was upset because if I was unhappy with my contacts once I got them that wasn't her responsibility. Which i understand I can't blame them, its my choice to call it in, I'm no child. I told her I wanted to call it in anyways, because I didn't want to lose that $150 dollars, for no doctor I have every been to has mentioned an astigmatism. Also, all other doctors I have been to have been practicing longer than Dr. Martin, but they were farther and that was why I wanted to try Ghent Eye Care. Even if the prescription isn't right, I've been okay without astigmatism lenses until now, and nothing can change the fact that my eyes will get worse and worse with age. I made the best decision for myself that I could in a short amount of time. I then walked up to the front desk to hear her talking rudely to the receptionists, and she continued to talk to rudely as I stood not even four feet away from her. Not only was she acting like a child, and made sure to "heavily note" on the prescription that I went against her orders, she went completely over her line of duty and lectured me for making my appointment so late, when I had initially made it for the 20th. I'm not sure if it was my age or my appearance that made her act this way, or if maybe she's just truly a rude person but, I can promise I will never be going back to Ghent Eye Care. The ladies behind the desk were friendly enough to me and the equipment was impressive so that's why they get one star. read more

DO NOT GO HERE...... Let me start with they LOST my Bulgari glasses case and thought that just replacing it with any designer case would do. I've owned these glasses and case for a long time and, for me, they go hand and hand. I saw Dr. Martin, she was fine. I cant say she was bad or good. She did the job that I needed her to do. Assess my eyes, vision & write me a prescription. I think the billing coordinator is Leah and she really is the ONLY shining part of that place. she was the only person who seemed to WANT to be helpful at all. I dropped off 2 pairs of glasses with their cases to have the lenses replaced. I gave the receptionist the glasses AND the cases. If they didnt need my cases, she should have given them back to me but she took it all. When i came to pick up my glasses, they handed me just my glasses with the new lenses. When i asked for the cases that I dropped them off in, the receptionist tried to claim that I didnt leave my cases with her. I told her I KNOW i did b/c if i had not, I would know where they are. The people there proceeded to half-heartedly search the office for my cases. The lady who fitted me for the glasses came across very dismissive of my issue. The offered me 25% off only 1/2 of the price of my lenses and replacement glass cases but absolutely missed the overall issue that they lost my Bulgari case. It is my belief someone in their office took my case and they did not want to admit it. Otherwise it was a customer walking in and just taking an empty glasses case? I very highly doubt that. So consumers beware!!!! read more

I loved my experience at Ghent Eyecare! It was my first visit. Staff was super friendly and courteous. They explained my insurance coverage - no one has ever done that at a doctors office. Dr. Pegram is the best! He was friendly, answered all of my crazy questions, explained what was going on and what I needed for my new glasses. I visited Ghent Eyecare about a year after moving to the area and being overdue for my yearly exam. I only waited about five minutes in the waiting room after filling out the new patient paperwork, and less than that for the doctor to come in after the initial work-up was done by the optical staff. Dr. Martin was very approachable and honest, and the staff were helpful as well. I also liked that it was within walking distance of my residence, which made the dilation part of the exam much easier to deal with. read more

I took my young kids with me for my exam. The doctor and staff were very accommodating of my kids, making them feel included. I appreciated the professional demeanor of the doctor and the optician. Dr. Martin is fantastic. I just moved to the area and was skeptical about finding a new optometrist. She was refreshingly pleasant, professional, and informative. The eye care team was very professional and friendly. The facility is beautiful with a modern feel. I was assisted within 10 minutes of my scheduled appointment time. They also have a large selection of designer glasses. Parking may be a challenge, but it's expected being on a busy street. read more

For years I have been going to an optometrist located next to a Lenscrafters. The service was always good, but I always felt like I was being "upsold" on lens types, coatings, etc. I decided to make a change to an independent optometrist and selected Ghent Eyecare. I was impressed with the professionalism and the customer service. I also found that, apparently, my previous doctor was not performing all of the tests that my insurance provided for. I received the most thorough eye exam ever! Where Lenscrafters *always* discouraged putting new lenses in my old frames (they'd say that it would cost just as much as replacing the frames), Ghent expressed no issues at all about using my old (and comfortable) frames, other than the logical expectation that there would not be a warranty. Only reason for not awarding a five star - the men's frame selection was limited (granted, I was looking for something quite specific), but it would be nice if catalogs or a website could be offered in order to expand the options. read more

Not very pleased with this place. I have had the same prescription for many years, and only needed a new contact lens prescription. I've paid out of pocket for this every year for the last five years, and it's been relatively cheap. I needed a new prescription and decided to go to Ghent Eye Care because it's in the neighborhood. Somehow the bill gets sent to my insurance company, and I ended up with a bill that's almost double what I've paid before out of pocket. They apparently required me to get a glasses fitting in order to get my contact lens prescription which I've never had to do before, and I never even received my glasses prescription (had to call and request it since apparently I paid for it). The facilities are nice I suppose but nothing special. As other reviewers have mentioned, the optometrist has a very awkward beside manner. The receptionist and the billing coordinator were polite, but I would have appreciated their being more up front from the get go about what services I was getting and what the total bill would be. Needless to say I won't be coming back. read more

I had a terrible experience! My wife and I are both students and our insurance through the school doesn't include eye coverage. I was seen for an eye exam and called the office to ask for my prescription 1 year later and was told that they wouldn't give it to me. When I pushed them to email me my records they obnoxiously wrote all over the prescription EXPIRED in multiple places in all caps because they didn't want me ordering through another venue. When I looked at the prices of multiple other eye exam centers in the area Ghent Eye Care charges more than double for the same services. Overall they were condescending, rude, immature, and highly unprofessional. I plan to get my eye care through another provider in the future! read more

I would put a 0 if I could. The last two years would have been 5 stars, but this year, the service was deplorable! After my appointment, I went to Target Optical with my prescription, where it was discovered that I was given the same prescription as I was two years ago, even though the doctor said it had changed when I was there AND it was clearer than my current blurry prescription. I emailed, called, and went into person to show them the mistake (I had pictures of both dated prescriptions on my phone), and all they said was "that prescription should be fine." I would have spent hundreds of dollars on the WRONG prescription. I then had to go to another doctor, who did say I was given the wrong prescription, gave me the correct one, and I am finally seeing clearly again. Don't go here, it's not worth it and you will end up paying out of pocket for another appointment elsewhere. Even after taking their survey saying I had awful service, I heard nothing back from them. I and everyone that I have recommended this place to will no longer be going there thanks to this experience. read more

I have to write an update since after my exam the other week went well I stopped by to pick up the contacts I had ordered and while the girls at the desk are extremely nice and helpful my doctor was standing at the end of the counter chatting with the girls at the desk and didn't even ONCE make eye contact or bother to say hello to me! I am her patient and I was JUST there last week. I was extremely disappointed with her lack of customer service and will not be returning to this practice next year. read more

Dr. Mandy Martin was rude and condescending on all three times I came into her office. I came in twice over the course of one year after my eyes responded poorly to two different contact lenses she prescribed to me (after insisting that I switch from a previous brand that never failed me. Shame on me for trusting her the second time). She treated me as if I was wasting her time and was reluctant to hand over to me a written prescription for my previous lenses so that I could purchase them outside of her over-priced clinic. The last time I was in I asked for a rx for glasses and they gave me a different client's rx (HIPPA violation anyone?). They also ordered the wrong lenses for me the second time around and insisted I walk out the door with them. I had to demand that they send them back and order the correct ones. Also, the last time I was in, I had them change the nose pads to my glasses and the lady stripped the hole to the screw that holds my nose pad in place without telling me. I e-mailed their office manager with a full complaint and never received a response. The care I received was thoughtless and unprofessional.
