Doctor Gilbert has been my eye doctor for quite a while and I have come to trust his judgment and advice on my eye issues. At some point in the near future, I plan to take the plunge to get the surgery done so that I will not have to wear eyeglasses anymore. It seems counterintuitive for an optometrist to promote eye surgery but that just speaks to the character of Doctor Gilbert. He really wants what is best for his patients, even if it means he will earn less money. read more

I recommend them. There selection is in style but still a wide range. I dropped some coin at this place but my glasses were worth it. I got glasses w not frame and it looks like I'm not really wearing glasses. My boss will "say looks like you have a thin pencil in your ear" and I'm wearing my glasses. I see the bridge over my nose but other than that I no longer have to worry how they look as they look like me. And i forget im wearing glasses, which is a blessing and a curse. Blessing i just explained, curse as if you lay them on a table and forgot where you put them, they are hard to find. read more

The team at Gilbert Eyecare is great. I had a beat up pair of Oakley Rx frames, and I wandered around all of Hampton Roads unable to find anyone with a pair in stock. They ordered me a pair and brought a few others over from their other store for me to compare. Over the next few years, we reevaluated the contacts that were available for me and tested out the newest lenses each year. The desk staff always took care of the insurance paperwork for me; the exams were thorough; and Dr. Gilbert always explained what he was looking for in the exam. Even after I moved out of town, I had to contact Gilbert Eyecare for my old file for work (to get some Rx safety glasses made) and to give my new optometrist some history. Every time I emailed or called, they promptly took care of me. They've got a great selection of fashion-forward frames, and you'll get individual attention and care here. I was looking for an eye doctor first via yelp and google map. I ended up here from my insurance website. Dr. Gilbert was very nice and the office staff were courteous. I am impressed with the customer service and the technology used in this office. In addition, Dr. Gilbert explains in details what I can look forward to with the health of my eyes. He also does not pressure me to purchase anything that is not necessary. I had to get an appointment for my four year old who needed glasses. A lot of optometrists wouldn't see him because he was so young and didn't know the whole alphabet yet. We wound up see Dr. Falsetta and she was amazing. Our son can be difficult and rambunctious, like any normal four year old. So I was worried. The doctor was patient and kind and funny and he loved the whole experience. He was even able to get glasses in orange, his favorite color. Everyone we encountered was kind and helpful and I would definitely recommend Dr. Falsetta. She's just wonderful. read more

Excellent eye care place! I visited here for the first time this week. In a previous place I felt like I was just rushed through an assembly line to get me to the sales floor to buy glasses. That was not the case here. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Gilbert was also friendly and very thorough. He explained what his examinations were showing and the reasons behind his decisions. He was not at all pushy about buying glasses; in fact, he assured me that though my prescription had changed very slightly my current glasses are more than fine. I will definitely be returning here for my future eye care needs and regular check ups! read more

The doctor was awesome but that's where the buck stops. The customer service has horrendous! I paid over $500 on pair of glasses that didn't work and they billed my insurance incorrectly in the process. When I went back to have them adjusted their employee was very aggressive and insinuated I wanted a refund rather than ensuring I was happy with my purchase by making the necessary modifications. I left feeling like they didn't care about me or my well-being after they got my money. I've gone to other Opticians and paid a fraction of the price for the better quality. read more

My husband and I were seen for a contacts evaluation and fitting. The office staff are incredibly upbeat, friendly, and knowledgable. My husband initially was evaluated for glasses, but decided on contacts and they fit him in to come back the next day since Dr. Gilbert had already left. Dr. Gilbert is awesome! He has a wonderful bedside manner and he thoroughly answered all my questions and eased all my concerns. Janelle is the absolute best! She walked me through the frustration (and trauma) of putting contacts in for the first time. She was so helpful and patient despite my frustration with myself. In the end they provided three sets of contacts to test for a couple of weeks and scheduled a follow up that fit my work schedule. Overall, Gilbert Eyecare exceeded my expectations. They are clearly patient/customer-centered and I definitely recommend them to anyone in need of new contacts or glasses. The glasses are expensive, but they're all name brand and fancy Depending on your insurance you could likely get a good deal. Monthly contacts made the most practical sense to my husband and I, so that's what we are going with. We both felt very informed every step of the way. I go into Gilbert Eyecare for the first time to simply get a contact and glasses prescription.. I pay for both because they wanted payment upfront. I receive a new glasses prescription from Dr. Wilcoxin (says I no longer have a stigmatism in my right eye and for some reason she put my script back a notch because apparently my eyes are now better.) So I told her what contacts I've been using for years and these are literally the only ones that have felt comfortable in my eyes - my mom uses them and they work great for her too. She makes me try multiple dailies contacts that I told her never feel good in my eye and either burn, move, or sting constantly. Sure enough, all 3 of them do. I go back again and she wants me to waste my time (like I have at countless other eye doctors) and use dailies because it's "newer technology and my contacts are old technology" and somehow better for my eyes... News flash..If something isn't broke, don't fix it. She then tells me I have allergy problems in my eyes and doesn't want to give me any contacts until my allergy situation is better. Mind you, a week after I saw her, I was already starting up allergy shots which take 3-5 years to work. So of course my "allergy situation" isn't going to be cleared up for a very long time. I go back and forth with nurse Joy and I tell her that someone should've asked what contacts I'm currently using because if they would've said, "Oh no we can't prescribe you these contacts" then I would NOT have paid $90 for a Contact Prescription that I was told I would receive. I then ask for a refund on the $90 I paid and she directs me to Nicole in Billing. I go back and forth with Nicole for weeks until I call her back and leave voicemails for 2 days and call for 4 days and she never called me back so I guess Gilbert Eye Care wanted to avoid the entire situation. I haven't heard back since and that was 3.5 weeks ago. read more

I visited with my elderly mother to purchase reading glasses. She wanted to go to an optometrist, rather than a pharmacy, because she was unsure what strength/number she needed and she has an astigmatism. Upon our arrival, we were instantly greeted in their graciously decorated showroom. The professional took care to understand what my mother needed and what she wanted. In addition, to bringing several number of readers to make sure she got the correct strength, the young associate offered to reshape my mother's prescription glasses and clean them. She took both my mother's and my glasses neither which had been purchased there and cleaned them. We will definitely return as the variety of eye glass frames, the attention and amazing customer service sold us on Gilberts Eyecare. They are true eyesore professionals. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. Worst experience ever! Paid for a contact evaluation which was covered by my insurance (but they didn't see it because it was an "addendum" to my plan). Still haven't given me my money back yet (my appointment was Jan 12, 2019!) and every time I call, the person in charge of claims is coincidentally not there & does not return my call. I should not have to keep calling to figure out what is going on when the issue was a mistake on their end in the first place. They also ran it through my medical insurance instead of vision because they claim I had "dry eyes" (doctor did not tell me about this) & I was "given" samples of drops that I never received. I'm sure my request to speak with Dr. Simmons was "lost" as well. I will definitely not return read more
