I've been coming here for over a year now. I'm not sure if I've already written a review but I'm writing one now. I've dealt with EVEA for myself and my son. I've had a vision exam here as well as purchasing classes for myself. Exam wise I recommend 100%. However, I would NOT RECOMMEND this place for glasses. My son has had numerous vision and eye testing here. He currently has vision therapy every Tuesday for 12 months. They're giving him excellent care for this. You do have to pay out of pocket, they do not accept insurance and it's extremely expensive. I also purchased glasses for my son through them last year and it's process was subpar. The opticians were not very pleasant. They didn't seem very attentive. For me, my glasses have been back ordered, which is fine, but they don't do well reaching out to the customers to keep them in the loop. I had to call several times to inquire about my glasses. Takeaway: definitely get a eye exam here!! Go somewhere else for glasses!!! read more

We've been going to this facility for about five years. Until this year we've been pleased with our care. Our over 18 year old girls have all been in the past few months. It was implied to them the retinal mapping was required (at an extra cost of $39) and i know full well it's not. I'm not pleased they think they can slip one by just because the girls are younger. We will be looking for a new optometrist. read more

This place is amazing. The facility is state of the art, clean, and safe with the appropriate COVID precautions in place. The staff is professional, accommodating (especially for folks like me who have been avoiding eye appts for years) and knowledgeable. Decided to change optometrist and I made a great decision. I really wanted to try contacts the ones selected were awesome and the young lady who helped with the fitting was awesome and patient with me. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because I prepaid my bill online over a week prior to my next appt. And payment was not posted asking me to pay when I walked in. I have ran a medical office and understand the importance of pulling batches in the morning and at the end of day. Due to online payments. I would even have the front desk run the batch after lunch. read more

Took my 9 year old to get an eye exam. They were wonderful with him and very kid friendly. Great selection on eyewear as well!

I'm not sure why the ratings on Yelp are so low for this company. I just had my 2nd appointment there and it was very pleasant (8/23/18). The receptionists were prompt and friendly. The wait time was very short (10 min). The exam was quick and efficient with very modern/ state of the art equipment. I opted for the $40 eye mapping which takes photos of the back of your eye to provide a better exam. The optometrist assistant/ tech was very outgoing and knowledgeable. The doctor was friendly and answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns thoroughly. I highly recommend! read more

Dr.Teten was super sweet and was able to answer my questions regarding the health of my eyes with ease which is the main reason why I have to give 3 stars. The Optical Technicians I worked with were good as well. However, some of the front desk staff definitely needs better social skills. Suzanne especially, became very defensive, dismissive, and flustered when I asked questions regarding insurance coverage for my services. I found this to be odd and unsettling as she appears to be a billing coordinator for the practice. Overall, the doctor was sweet but front desk definitely left a bad taste and I'm unsure if I would return. read more

I have been coming to this place for exams and eyeglasses for over 15 years. Today is my last day. I had a new prescription within the last 6 months. First the doctor made a mistake and I had to get the scrips remade ( at their cost is their policy ). New doctor, fixed the scrip and ordered glasses. Second mistake was made by a young woman in the optical department so they had to remake again. Wore those for a while then came back to go back to a scrip from a couple years ago. The new one just didn't work out. I was willing to pay for new lenses and not do a no cost remake. Was told that they did not want my business anymore and gave me a copy of my scrip to take anywhere else to get lenses made. They don't care about making sure you have the correct scrip, only what makes the most money for them. Which I understand since they are a business. But losing patients isn't the way to make money either. read more

I do not believe Dr. Tetan knows what she's doing. She got my daughters prescription completely wrong, to the point it could have caused her to go cross eyed, then tried to sell us on VT. said I had to pay out of pocket to make sure the prescription was right and so I could ask more questions. I have never heard of this. What a joke honestly. I want nothing to do with this clinic. I lost many nights of sleep and caused me so much anxiety. Thankfully I went with my gut and got a second opinion with an Opthamologist, and then some!. Turned out I was right about that mom gut. I suggest some of you get second opinions. I'm digusted with your rude staff that catagorizes you by what they feel you can afford and your shady business. read more

I've been going to this facility since 2012. They're very knowledgeable and more than helpful! Yesterday, I dropped by because my glasses broke (after 4 years), normal wear and the eye tech walked ne around the facility tying to find an affordable oair that my lenses would fit in to! It took about 3 mins! Now, I can see again!! I love the front desk ladies, they always make me laugh, the doctors are great, I've seen about 3-4 since I've been going and every person was personalble. The place was wonderful when Dr Swatts was seeing "regular "patients. I have seen two of the Drs since and it's terrible now. Dr Dias is very condescending. I think it's because I'm older. Dr Kness also didn't seem to want to be bothered by me when I went there with blood in my eye. Told me to come back in three months even though she said I had hemorrhages in my eye. She wanted a blood test. I told her I had had one recently and had no problems and my blood pressure was normal.My GP said it wasnt needed because I didn't have diabetes and my blood pressure was normal. I immediately made an appointment with Virginia Eye Consultants to see the dr who did my cataract surgery. Needless to say I won't be returning there! read more

This is the worst place to get an eye exam I have ever been to. Unfriendly service, argumentative doctors with patients, refuse to do something as simple as measure pupil distance unless you buy glasses from them. Submitted eye exam bill to medical insurance (diabetic case) and charged twice the walk-in rate for the exam. Nothing more than a money machine and not a service provider. Recommend you stay away from this provider!!! read more

I used to go and see Dr. Swatts or Dr. Ramos when Eastern Virginia Eye Associates participated in our insurance coverage. Both of them were thorough and they provided the best prescription glasses I have had. When the opportunity arises I would like to see them again. read more

While I did not see the Dr here I did purchase my glasses from them. I'm not sure if the reason I don't see well out of them is the way they measure them and your eyes, but this is probably the worse pair of glasses I've ever had. I am also needing to have them adjusted constantly and I probably only wear them a couple times a week. On top of that, the gals they had working for them are no longer there and they now have some know-it-all condescending guy doing the adjustments. I won't be back and the next pair of glasses I buy won't be at this place either. I also found another pair of glass frames there I loved that were priced at 250$, I got the exact pair off the internet for less than 100$. read more

I never have problems with this place at all. That is with the Drs. Their front office staff is awful!! Today is 11/28/17 and the blonde girl that is in the front desk was real rude!! It was about 4pm when I went in & she was giving bad looks at the patient in front of me. Then when I walked up, she acted bothered by my presence. About 2 years ago I had a problem with their front desk people as well. They over charged me and my visit was denied so I had to pay out of my own pocket. I called and all they said was "sorry". We left for a year and then changed insurances, so we came back hoping it changed. Nope! Gonna look for another eye Dr due to the front office staff. They must not pay well. We've been going here for years - the whole family. We've consistently dropped hundreds of dollars each year adding up to thousands over the years on prescription glasses for the whole family with them as well. However, while we've been relatively happy with the annual exam visits, I recently called to ask for the pupillary distance on my prescription so I could order a pair of sports glasses, which they carry a VERY limited selection of. I was informed by Robin that they would not provide it. They consider it to be proprietary. She then promptly tried to tell me to come and look at their line of sports glasses. When I told her I already had, and they didn't have what I needed, she still refused to provide the PD. The real answer of course was that they don't want me to purchase my glasses online elsewhere. This is greedy and unfortunate and has cost them my business for our whole family. We've spent thousands over the years with them and they should be providing this information. It is not proprietary to them and in fact many states require by law for this number to be provided. It's unfortunate that this is the stance they've decided to take. It reflects they care more about the bottom line than their patients. They should figure out how to compete more effectively with online retailers rather than withhold information I've already paid for as part of my annual visit and which I should be provided without issue. While I've referred numerous folks to them over the years, I won't be doing so in the future. read more

This was my first trip to an optometrist and I have to say I had a very pleasant experience. Every employee I encountered was friendly and helpful. My optometrist was very thorough and genuinely concerned with answering my questions to the fullest of her abilities and making my visit as pleasant as possible. Stay away from this place. I went here for an eye exam 01/21 and was overcharged for my appointment. First I was rushed through the exam, the doctor only spent a couple of minutes in the room then I was sent out the door. This place isn't very personable. I went somewhere else to buy glasses since they are way overpriced here and the selection for men isn't the best. I had trouble seeing out of them so I came back here to get everything checked again. A couple of the measurements were off so I went back to the other place to get them corrected, got the glasses back after the corrections and still couldn't see out of them. When I called to make the recheck appointment they said that it would be free of charge to me, ended up finding out that they tried billing my insurance for it (a little sketchy). Went in for the recheck and to my dismay, they assign interns to do the recheck. By this point I am very irritated considering I wasn't happy with the first exam, I was overcharged for a service I wasn't happy with, I just wanted to have new glasses and now they are giving me interns instead of an actual doctor for a recheck. The recheck however came back with the same results. I ended up going somewhere else to get a second opinion and the results were a little off compared to the 2 exams I had from here. Most of the staff here acts very condescending. When I brought to their attention that I was overcharged for my appointment because I received notice from the insurance, they acted like they had no clue about it. Turns out they use a third-party billing company so they probably didn't have a clue. If I never brought it up to their attention, I wonder if I ever would have gotten the money back. It is now 04/22 and I am just now getting refunded the money I originally overpaid in January. This place seems shady when dealing with the insurance company and money. Everything I have complained about, I have seen in other reviews too. After this experience, I will never return to this place. read more

The only place we trust with our family's eyes. Great care and wonder customer sevice. We have been going here since Dr. Ramos was in the Food Lion Shopping Center. We've watch the practice grow and there's been no drop off in the quality of care or service. Dr. Swatts' care, attention and follow up when our son scratch his cornea gave us such comfort and relief (he called us twice after hours). Trust no other practice with your eyes. And just stop in for a cup of coffee. They're great people and a top notch organization. read more

I am so glad I found this place. The staff is totally top notch! I had zero wait time. The front desk was polite and efficient. The techs were friendly and cheerful. They really knew their stuff as well. Dr. Swatts is wonderful. Very personable and thorough when explaining my eyes and conditions. I left knowing far more about my eyes than I ever have in the 25+ years I've had glasses/contacts. The equipment they used I've never even seen before, it was really cool. Even cooler was that the eye doctors and techs took the time to explain what they were measuring and looking for. I felt confident in their suggestions and safe under their care. Even the nice man who helped me pick out my glasses was great. He was patient and didn't get ruffled by my indecisiveness. I love that not being rushed or treated like a number like places I've been in the past. I am so lucky to have stumbled across this gem of an office!!! I highly recommend. Called my insurance, and they told me this was a preferred provider. Have no idea why. Appointment was easy to get, everyone was very nice, but the communication breakdown was apparent the second I was walked out to a desk to pick out frames for glasses.....I was there for an exam and paid more out of pocket for a contact lens exam, which I have never had to do before of. I let it go because maybe its just a sales pitch. From then on out I've waited for calls, call backs and received a bill for items I didn't order. I have called and been told my contacts are in, only to get there and be told they do not have them. They had to call my insurance to find out why they( this business ) sent me a bill, at least they were able to find the problem, my concern was that the insurance will only have what ever information this company had given them. I found it odd that items that had always been covered in the past, where not now. It was recommended that these be done, then billed to my medical insurance. I thankfully opted not to do these at the time. I know insurance coverage always seems to change, but seeing now that my $10 co-pay, plus $58 contact lens exam has gotten me nothing but an exam ( no contacts), and a written prescription so I could buy elsewhere. I am quite disappointed, and honestly feel taken advantage of. I will not be wasting my time to go there again. read more
