This was such a good find on a Friday night! The pizza is sooo good; it's almost as delicious as Badiali's. The tomato sauce, the crisp crust-- yum! I just wish they had a Hawaiian option, a marinara dipping sauce, and a mushroom pizza that didn't have truffle oil; then it would be even better. The beer menu was a bit hard to read, and it was too loud to talk to the bartenders, but I'd try again next time. Meanwhile, there are arcade games, and many of them are free--! How cool is that? "Half & Half" pie review only: 'North Of Brooklyn Pizza' used to helm the rear of this great venue (maybe about a year or so ago). NOB left and the pizzeria at the back is now part of Get Well Bar's food menu. Although their website doesnt detail this, they offer 18" pies after 5pm everyday, and seemingly use a sourdough dough. A "Cheese" pie is $27 (tomato sauce + shredded mozz; same price as NOB's NY Cheese & Margherita pies). There is "Pepperoni" (Ezzo branded; $30), "Mushroom" (garlic oil base, shredded mozz, Portobello and Cremini mushrooms, goat cheese, balsamic glaze, and arugula; $32), "Vegan Deluxe" (tomato sauce, vegan mozz, artichoke, mushroom blend, black olives, red onions; $32), and "Al Pastor" (tomato sauce, shredded mozz, marinated pork shoulder, pickled jalapenos, brined red onions, pineapple salsa ; $32). In comparison, NOB's most expensive pies are $30). They have a "Half & Half" pie ($34) which is a pie divided in half with 2 different flavours each side, which is what was ordered. Asked "well done." The "Cheese" was underwhelming except for the dough, which was phenomenally pillowy and soft (not in an under-done sense, just almost like a croissant), but the pie overall could definitely have been more "well-done." We might have gotten lucky in using the least stale dough they had, but certainly the dough was impressive, but lacked any char, smokiness, or notable crispness (except along outer inch). The "Mushroom" side was superb, and it was a pity it was called just "Mushroom" as it was much more than a Funghi pie. A diversity of flavours accompanied each bite (slight tartness and creaminess from goat cheese, strong herbal notes from arugula, earthiness of mushrooms, sweetness from balsamic glaze...). It might not appeal to everyone, but it was a great balance to enjoy it alongside the more basic "Cheese" pizza side. Overall, not as good as its former tenant, but the "Half & Half" pie is a great pie worth trying and an impressive pizza for a fantastic bar. read more

arrived here for food one night, as i had a concert in the area, from the outside looking in, this bar, didn't even look open, as i approached the door i had to look inside with my hands cupped against the glass to see if they were indeed open and the answer was yes. i got inside and it took forever for my eyes to adjust to just how dark it was in the inside, also people were casually walking around tripping over tables and chairs the whole time i was at this bar, until you walk back where the food is, the light from the restaurant and the arcade games helps out. i also couldn't get over how loud this bar was, not from music but just from people talking and causing a scene, obviously not handling themselves appropriately, left a bad taste in my mouth for sure. transit options are the 505 dundas streetcar directly, and the 63 ossington with a bit of a walk. absolutely lots of options in the neighborhood for parking, directly to the bar, side streets and private lots in the neighborhood with a walk, but please, as this is a bar DO NOT drink and drive. this would not be my first choice to come here. read more

Do. Not. Go. Here. I had attended a weekly programmer/hacker meetup group whereupon we were blessed enough to have someone bring along a Theramin. If you're not aware - it's a beautiful musical instrument that deserves more attention than it gets. I had heard - before I attended - that there was an event going on, and that the noise was interrupting the other guests. That being understood, I brought along a requested headphone adapter so we could experiment without disturbing anyone. A couple hours later - the party ended, everyone left; and we were by ourselves as a group. For the IG, I attempted to stage *one* video where we would have live audio, with the patrons now gone. The staff went *far* out of their way to make us their problem. So - we basically had someone who volunteered their time and effort to come into the venue, after several weeks of attending regularly with many people - meaning - if they had any sensibility whatsoever within them to treat us with kindness, we obviously missed it. I have honestly not received such *dis*service at any venue - ever. Please do not attend. I'm sure the owner will have a chance to read this, and the clutch is you morons just threw away a *dedicated* and *growing* group of respectable people at your venue, which is an awful business decision, at the very least. I hope the 1-star review - and the lack of our further diligent patronage; can help them rethink how they treat their dedicated patrons. Great food - staff is an absolute dumpster fire. We've walked by here about a thousand times and never gone in. But last night - in search of pizza (that wasn't Libretto) we dropped in for a pint and a pie. It was early enough on a Saturday night that there was plenty of seating options and no line at the back at the North of Brooklyn pizza place. So perfect for a drop by. Super impressed by what was on tap. A real range and any bar who carries anything from Halo gets extra marks. We had the Halo Wave IPA and it is tasty. The pie came out and we ate at the bar. We had the Killer Bee (sausage and peppers and a smidge of honey) the crust was superior. The pie was pretty soggy in the middle but we were so into the toppings that this detail mattered not to us. We folded it up and stuffed our faces. Get Well has a nice vibe. What they, here in Toronto, call a 'dive bar' but elsewhere might be just called a 'bar'. After reading about quirky/cool Get Well I was excited to make the pilgrimage on a recent trip to Toronto. We went quite early in the evening so there was no line which was great. We easily got to explore the space and check out the free old school arcade games. It was a fun throwback to check out Pac-Man and the other machines. I think the problem for me here was incorrect expectations. From reading about Get Well it sounded like they were supposed to have a bunch of local craft beers on tap. They did, but what we ordered was lackluster. I would never order the Rage & Love Margarita sour beer again. My coworker didn't particularly care for the wheat beer he got from Side Launch Brewing either. The bartenders were all more occupied in their own conversations to pay us much attention. We didn't really feel that welcome. If you're just going for a normal beer and a fun arcade game or then Get Well is fine. Don't expect any earth-shattering craft beers. read more

The Get Well bar is a hipster dive bar with cool drinks and retro arcade games in the back. Perfect when you need a drink after a long week and need to decompress by playing a bit of tetris, frogger, or pinball 'old school style (not played on your smartphone). By 8, the place was pretty busy. Almost all the tables were taken and so you'd be standing or hanging around at the back where the games are. There's a huge table there for your coats or drinks so feel free to drink and play. The bar is decorated with a golden phoenix and dragon (the ones you see at Chinese dim sum restaurants). FYI: the bird and dragon symbolizes marriage. Hmm, maybe you'll find the love of your life here! This place would be perfect for very large groups, say up to 30-40 group of friends, maybe even more. The Get Well stands apart from the myriad of other bars along the Ossington Strip with its lineup of old-school arcade machines - most of which you can play free of charge! There is a pretty formidable selection of local beers, so get a few drinks in you, grab three friends, and start button-mashing on The Simpsons Arcade Game. Oh, and just in case you get hungry, the pizza here (courtesy of North of Brooklyn Pizza) is about as good as it gets on Queen West. We came here in the early evening primarily to try the North of Brooklyn pizza. You order this from the pizza maestros in the back. They had slices ready to warm up, but we ordered a fresh, full pizza to share. It took about 15-20 minutes and the guy was nice enough to deliver it to us at the bar when it was ready. We chose the Killer Bee, with calabrese sausage, serrano peppers, pickled red onions and a drizzle of honey. Of course we had a beer while we waited - what a seriously impressive craft list here! I would have made a killer bee-line here earlier if I knew there was Halo on tap! And the raspberry saison from Great Lakes - so excellent to see this yummy stuff on draught in the city. This is a fun place to people-watch. It's a spacious bar with Christmas lights, old photos and posters, kitschy furniture. Plus a great big high-top bar to sit at. There's also Ms. Pac-Man which, understandably, is nearly always occupied. The pizza came on the 14" silver tray it was cooked on and a handful of brown paper towels. It was so hot (YES!) it was impossible to pick up at first (a bit soggy in the centre), but I could not wait to get in there and taste it at its mouth-burning best. We maneuvered a way of flopping the wet center back up onto the slice - without tools - and this worked. Killer Bee was KILLER YUMMEH! The only drawback was the challenge of eating something so hot without plates or utensils (but HOT will forever trump TOOLS). The bartender offered us paper plates when we were halfway through our last slice, so kind of useless at that point. But plates or no plates, I will definitely be back here for pizza and beer! read more

Since I neither live nor work downtown I'm always late to the party...but I finally discovered this gem. A bar, a pizzeria and FREE arcade games. FREE arcade games. I said it twice because that's what makes it 5 star. Yeah yeah it's a hipster dive bar that's neither too hipster or too dive...just the right amount of good ole fun! The front operates as a typical bar, while the middle section has the classic arcade games - ms. pacman, frogger, double dragon, a pinball machine etc. There is a few seat, a couch at in this section as well if you just want to chill. At the back of the bar is the food - North of Brooklyn Pizza. As I had already eaten before I wasn't hungry but I heard this pizza is pretty good. So definitely grab a slice and pacman your way into a great evening. It's pretty hard not to find yourself reverting to child-like openness and playfulness towards strangers when you're playing vintage games. This place is definitely memorable and different from your average Toronto bar. Their gimmick is that they have all of the old gaming systems that you can play free of charge! The beers and cold and highballs are normal, but they do have nice rotating taps with local crafts. The general vibe is upbeat and not pretentious and people are nice about not monopolizing the games. This place gets REALLY BUSY in the evenings, especially on Friday and Saturday, so expect to wait a while. If you aren't enamored with the line fad, I'd suggest going on a weekday, or right when they open on the weekend. Key Features: Free classic Arcade Cabinets I ended up in Get Well waiting for a birthday party to start. The guests were late, so I had some time to kill. It was 9:00 on a Saturday night when I walked in. The place was starting to fill up, but there was enough room to move around. Walking in to Get Well you notice the immediate draw at the back; the free arcade games. Everyone who wanders into Get Well seems to head right to them - and there's a reason for that. You have to get your money's worth somewhere. A pint of beer is around $7.00, add on another dollar for tax, and another for tip, and you're looking at a $9.00 pint. There are people who will pretend this is standard Toronto prices, but they are misinformed. Five dollars is normally my upper limit, and there are enough places willing to satisfy that price rang. Still - I was not in any of those other locations. I was in Get Well, so I headed to the back and took a look at the machines. Here's a rundown: Jukebox - broken. Frogger - broken Random Pinball machine - broken Galaga - broken Well that's less than ideal. But there were still a number of machines up and running. You could play all you wanted on: Pac-Man Centipede Dig Dug Tetris Gauntlet The only problem is some of these machines are very popular. For the forty five minutes I was near the machines, there were two girls playing Tetris the entire time. They never left; this is their prerogative, of course, but it highlights an important factor - the games are the main reason to come, and if they're not accessible, why stay? The Gauntlet machine is 4 players, but the two groups I saw cycle through were limited to two players, and did everything they could to position themselves to block the other two joysticks to ensure it was their game - and their game alone. There was no willingness to play with others, no Arcade-like camaraderie. Just people who felt entitled to monopolize. There's no way to throw your quarter down, take your place in line. There is also a Dolly Parton pin ball machine, and an Operation Wolf gun game. But, these you had to pay for. One quarter, one play. In line with so many other machines it's difficult to drop even a quarter, when the previously mentioned entitlement that all should be free begins sneaking up on you. By 9:45 the place was packed beyond movement. To get from one end to the other you need to force your way through the middle of no less than three circular groups that form, all of them giving looks of dislikeament. A most cromulant look, to be sure. It's as if they don't realize that they're forcing such an action by taking up the entire throughway. And the heat - it gets hot inside. Maybe it's the two dragons with glowing eyes over the bar, maybe not - but it's cramped, overheated, and over priced. I see no reason to return. read more

Not a bad experience overall, craft beers, vintage arcade games with free credits and just a general crummy dive bar look and feel - it's perfect. Located just half a block away from Dundas and Ossington it's a convenient spot just near the hipster-strip. Definitely a spot to mix and mingle, but be advised that it's loud so it makes conversations a tad rough but for a night out of boozing and video games with pals it's perfect. The average age here is noticeably early to mid 20's with a smattering of older here and there, so if you're annoyed by "youngins" then maybe avoid this place. If you're just looking for a good time and the crowd around you doesn't bother you than please proceed. My only critiques would be around their drinks and the access to the games. It's super crowded event earlier in the evening and much like Arcades of long ago the line ups to access a game are crazy long as crowds just pack in around and it's hard to penetrate once the crowd is established. As for the drinks, I wasn't in the mood for beer so I asked for a cocktail (Old Fashioned or Manhattan) and I was abruptly told "Ha, yeah, we don't do that". So I just went for mixed drinks all night. That said, my pals were all over the craft and euro craft beer selections and it seemed pretty impressive. The secret X-factor of this place is the tiny Brooklyn Style Pizza pop-up style shop in the back. What a great idea! Lure your customers in with video games, get them tipsy on delicious craft beer, THEN keep them sober enough or provide easy access to munchies with huge slices of pizza. Genius! After coming for a friend's birthday, I've become a big fan and I seriously love the vibe of this place. It's incredibly dark, as you can tell by the photos, but you don't need much light to play rescue the princess as Donkey Kong or score in pinball. I found that some of the games are a bit buggy but it's likely due to ancient (but ~authentic~) machines. It's a very chill and laid back atmosphere to come with your friends for a drink and a few games of Frogger. There's a couch and a random but surprisingly good pizzeria (North of Brooklyn) in the back of the house. I tried the popular "killer bee" - spicy sausage and honey, among other things. The crust is paper thin and it's a bit difficult to eat without it falling apart...I think it was $5 even for a slice? I was still hungry so I went across the street to get a delicious Portuguese tart (shout out to the security guard for letting me back in). With the mismatched furniture, chandelier-like fixtures and vintage pictures in different frames on the wall, my Harry Potter-loving friends and I have concluded that this place is where the "true" wizards go. They have a Ninja Turtles Arcade at this establishment. First of all, the Donatello does NOT work and he's the best. Which sucks but it's not the worst cause Leonardo's swords are pretty long (and he's the leader) Raphael is the worst. Anyway, the Foot Clan are pretty easy to kill but some of the pesky robots in the later levels can be a bit of a pain. BeeBop and Rocksteady are troublesome as per usual. Couldn't get to Shredder or Krang :( really wanted to see the Technodrome. I suggest playing with a friend to help out and stay motivated. They also have Ms. Pacman (Pacwoman should be), great beer selection and a "trendy" vibe. I tried Donatello at the end of the night so he might work I was pretty tipsy. Lol. read more

This is a really cute bar with a wide selection of different beers. What makes it unique is that it has arcade games! I didn't realize that the games were free until after we left unfortunately. At the back, there is a pizzeria that seems to be totally underrated. They gladly let me order a pizza with no cheese on half of the pizza (cheese doesn't sit well with me these days), and it was still delicious! The crust was amazing, and I would say that it rivals that of one of the better pizzerias in the city, Queen Margarita. It's a dark hipster-type bar, not your usual Irish pub. What a fun bar! Great selection of craft beers, FREE arcade games, AND PIZZA?!?!?!?Seriously, couldn't ask for more for a night out with friends! We were there pretty early and still had to wait to get a table, and by the time we left it was packed, so come early to avoid having to wait to get in. One comment that was made by a friend was that she couldn't hear any music - I 'think' it was there, but quiet enough so you could have a conversation without shouting, which I'm totally okay with! So if your reason for getting out is to shake your booty, you might want to try somewhere else. read more
