This was my all time favorite place until tonight. I used to pay $8.50 for a beer here for the longest time and I always left $10. More recently, the beer price increased to $9.50 and I kept giving $10 for each beer. This Friday, November the 22nd, I went into the bar with $70 cash. Each beer I got costed $9.50 and I left $10, as always. Until one of the guys at the bar gave me fire for not tiping enough. Given that I always had to get up from my table and go to the bar to get my beer, I don't really see the reason to tip in the first place. And yet, I did. I have been coming here for 2+ years (and have had two birthdays here in that time, with 20+ people), and I tried explaining this to the guy at the bar (the blond haired guy), to which he reacted saying that "haven't prices increased?". I asked him if he would really talk to me in the tone he was talking. He got even angrier and kept at it, so I left. Yes, the price of things have increased. And so has the price of the beer. From $8.50 to $9.50. If someone depends that much on tips, maybe speak up to your boss about it. After that, the security guard came by to ask/escort me out, whom ended up arguing with me as well. Anyway Friday, November 22nd, 2024, was the last time I ever stepped foot at the Greater Good. I'm giving it 2 stars because of the good times I had here. Had never checked the Geary neighbourhood on a weekday evening, so headed to the Greater Good on a Friday. The after-work crowd had this place hopping, and it stayed that way for the duration of my visit. (Looked like it would stay that way all night). The lineup was steady at North of Brooklyn, which serves up full hot pizzas and fresh slices from ts own counter inside the bar. There were literally 8 people working the tiny pizza area. We had 2 slices of the Killer Bee, which has Italian sausage jalapenos and a hit of honey on it. I missed this from The Get Well location! In fact, the Greater Good feels a lot like The Get Well "north." Similar chill crowd, well-designed interior with lots to look at, friendly servers, fast-flowing beer service, and a huge variety of excellent craft taps. I tried a delicious Town IPA I'd never had before (can't remember the name, but you can't go wrong with Town Brewery). Will be back soon! read more

OMG, this place. Pizza's a bit pricey, but holy smokes, I pretty much propositioned the cooking staff my undying love and affection it was so dee-lish. Nice vibes, off the beaten hipster track (which is a bonus), family-queer-artsy friendly. I highly recommend. read more

Now that phase 3 is in full effect we decided to check out this bar and have some craft beers. They put a new system in place that everyone has to have masks before entering the patio section. Host was amazing and recommended some great craft beer options I have the blood orange sour and it was delicious! Looking forward to going back and getting some pizza next time! read more

It's on the kid friendly side during the day which is a plus. Came here on a Saturday afternoon to meet up with some friends and their kids as well. The Greater Good features a nice open area on the first floor with picnic bench style tables. There's a nice little space on the second floor with some very old school arcade games. Parking wise, they don't have any immediate parking outside the bar. All parking is mostly on the side streets near by. The residents on these side streets also use the street as they have no driveways or garages. This makes finding parking at times really hard. On a cold day, this could be troublesome. We were a total of 6 adults and 7 children. I think the tables downstairs can fit 6 adults comfortably. There is one large table upstairs on the second floor. This was the only table that would fit our party. So, large parties coming in need to be aware of that. I think as long as you're not larger than 6 to 8, you should be fine. My favourite thing about this place is the built in pizza joint that have. They do a nice Brooklyn style pizza here. We ordered the Margarita and a 3 cheese pizza. I wasn't able to get a picture of the 3 cheese as the kids went at it as soon as the pizza arrived. I loved the pizza here. Very Neapolitan if you ask me. Nice thin crust with a little char on the bottom. That's the way I like my pizza honestly. You can get pizza with 8 really large slices made right to order for about $20, more than reasonable. When it comes to the arcade, it was a little on the disappointment side for me. I am a gamer at heart to this part did matter to me more. They have about 6-8 really old school arcade games here. The controls range from workable to just not working really well. They are all set to free play. There is a skee ball table and 2 pinball machines but you have to pay to play those. I feel like it they are here more for decoration than enjoyment really. The skee ball seems completely out of place because of the noise involved. It's hard to hear conversation when people are playing. Like I said, the I'm more critical here because I'm a gamer. I'm sure 99% of others won't feel the same. All in all, If you're in the area, The Greater Good is a nice little place to check out. If you like thin crust pizza, then you should definitely check it out for the pizza alone. read more

This is a great option for a bar for families. Upstairs is a retro arcade that the kids can go play. Downstairs the parents can enjoy a couple beers. Bench style seating allows for families to spread out. There's lots of space here. And what I visited there were actually a lot of families. There were lots of good options for beers on tap. Pretty cool bar with North of Brooklyn pizza inside of it. We enjoyed all of the beers and ciders we ordered on the cute patio in the back/side of the bar. We ordered an 18-inch Killer Bee: thin, crispy crust, great flavours. Loved the sweet-salty combo. We shared a large between four people and we were all decently full afterwards. We enjoyed playing arcade games upstairs but we kind of wished there was more selection because a lot of them were occupied most of the time when we were there. Love the vibe of this bar. The open space and high ceilings feels like you have room to breathe. The smell of fresh neapolitan Pizza and wide beer list is a food lover's dream. We nearly missed this place because it's located in area that you wouldn't think of for a bar. The parking lot is pretty tiny but don't let that deter you from coming here. It's got that same feeling of Get Well on Ossie b/c I believe it's the same owners. It's 2 floors - the first floor is where North of Brooklyn pizza is located, along with the bar and some seating. The second floor is where the skeet ball and a few pinball and games are located. We didn't play any of the games because they cost money apparently so we just grabbed our drinks and some 'za and just chilled for a bit. There is limited seating on the second floor so try and get some seats first before getting your food/beer. read more

Well this is a hidden gem. Much of Dupont is up and coming, including this area. With the opening of Blood Brothers Brewing a few doors over, and Halo Brewery not so far, this area is a bit of a craft beer haven. I came here for the first time this past Saturday and instantly fell in love. It's just north of Dupont and tucked away, so you need to know it's here to get here. As a result, it was busy as the night went on but it didn't feel like the usual sardine scenario for a Saturday night. They have a solid craft beer and cider offering on tap(much like its old sibling bar, Get Well) and quite a few other options in cans bottles as well as some wine. North of Brooklyn has its own little house within the space to serve a whole pie or just a slice. This leaves the place smelling divine. Oh and did I mention the mostly free arcade games on the second level? I'm definitely coming back when I was a nice, chill bar with some great beverage options and tasty pizza. This is a 3.5 for me. I'm a bit torn on this place. Here's the good: they have a large craft beer selection on tap with some unique finds that you can't get just anywhere. They had picks from Halo and Blood Brothers, and a cool cherry cider. There was a bit of something for everyone, with pilsners, IPAs, sours, etc. The inside is large and industrial-looking. It's got an eclectic and trendy vibe to it. Here's the not so good: we were seated at the bar and at one point this dude came in who was 100% wasted. Like I'm talking obnoxiously yelling "HEY! HEY! EXCUSE ME!" to each individual bartender to get their attention even though they were totally busy. This happened repeatedly. He also walked around, trying to butt into people's conversations. But guess what? They kept serving him! He must have had at least 3 or 4 drinks between the time he got there and the time I left, which was no longer than 45 minutes. I'm no expert and maybe bartenders were trying to keep the peace or something, but they should not have been serving someone this drunk, whether they're a regular or not, especially given that he was bothering everyone around him. If I come back again, I'd definitely check out the arcade games upstairs and get some pizza -- maybe that would sweeten the deal for me? Their beer selection was dope, but other than that I felt like the experience was over-hyped. read more

As a bar, it is very accommodating to large groups and provides a variety of beers to choose from. There are pinball and arcade games above which gives this bar a fun factor outside of drinking. My favourite game is the skiball. Brings back childhood memories of the CNE. But I don't come here for the beer. It's the pizza that keeps me from coming back. At the back is a little nook where you can find North of Brooklyn Pizzeria. A bit expensive for pizza, but when I'm craving for a well made pie in my neighbourhood, this is the best. Their garlic knots are so delicious. If you ever get the pizza, the garlic dip is delicious but just a warning, it's not your typical dip. Word of caution: do not rely on their website (http://www.thegreatergoodbar.com/) for updated tap listings. I saw a beer that I've been meaning to try on their website and found out the list was outdated - disappointment. It's tucked away in an industrial zone (and actually just down the street from Blood Brothers Brewing) - on our visit, they had Blood Brothers Shumei IPA on tap. Also, it has a separate North of Brooklyn pizza counter offering slices and full pies. The bar and pizza counter are self-serve. The arcade is upstairs and most of the games are free - but I believe you need to pay for the pinball and skeeball. Overall - pretty cool spot. Has that typical aesthetic and vibe you expect from a hip bar catering to millenials in an industrial zone. What a nice little gem here in this neighborhood, they have a good selection of craft beers plus arcade games and nice comfortable decor overall! I really loved how high the ceiling is and it does't make you feel crowded because of that. I had a wonderful experience at possibly one of the top on-tap craft bars in the 6ix. I pleasantly tried their ciders, my favourite having a cherry apple tinge to the taste. Not only I had the cider, I was graciously offered some tastes of Sours and other ciders. Colin, my server, made me feel welcome and highly comfortable to the point of wanting to come back again and try more tastes. What a great super chill spot to grab some beer and pizza! The beer menu is impressive and even though they only serve it in the 16oz pints, I can forgive them because the staff was soooo nice and let me sample four different kinds before settling on one! No attitude or judgement! I felt loved. We tried a few pizzas from North of Brooklyn and they were tasty - fresh and hot out of the oven! Can't hate on that! We started out on the small patio and headed inside once the rain came. Wish there was a bit more seating inside but we found a small nook around the bar to hang out. I'm so happy this space is finally being used in a way that works. This area deserved a good bar, and has finally been #blessed. The beer list is ever-changing and special, but they have wine and not-terrible cocktails, too. For food, they have a tiny North Of Brooklyn in the back and man do people love it. We grabbed some za to go, and had it for breakfast. An excellent hangover cure. My only beef is their Skee Ball machines are a bit annoying. I'm a big fan of the Get Well down on Dundas, and I'd say this place is better by far. They've taken the winning formula (good beer selection, great pizza, arcade games) and pushed it up a notch, while in a much better (and larger) space. Huge interior with two floors filled with large tables and a huge floor, along with a back patio that is easy to miss but charming by itself (and great for train watching). The bar takes its cues from Volo, but the bartenders are a lot more efficient - despite the crowds, it never took long to get a drink. Huge tap selection, with some truly excellent choices (that rotate weekly, apparently), lots of bottles & cans, and great prices. You get the feeling that you've been rewarded for your trek to Dufferin & Dupont the minute you walk through the door, and the feeling never goes away. And as a Brooklynite, I can attest - the pizza is quite good. Doesn't have enough grease and the crust is too thin to be a proper Brooklyn pizza, but it is tasty, and goes well with the beer. read more

The Greater Good is a bar located on Geary avenue. It's located where Kitch used to be. The owners are the same people who own Get Well, so once again, this is a barcade. The Greater Good is not accessible; video games are up a flight of stairs. The bathrooms are on the main floor, but they are gendered and quite narrow. The concept of the bar is very fun; up to 20 craft beers on tap, free video games upstairs and pizza. If you're into any/all of those elements, you'll love this place. I'm going to admit that I'm not a beer drinker, but the bartender made me some nice bar rail drinks. The video games are fun and work well. It sucks that the skeeball and pinball machines cost money, but I totally understand why. The pizza, located downstairs, is made by North of Brooklyn. I know a lot of people LOVE their pizza. It was okay and I REALLY liked that there was food available. For those who aren't aware, there is little to nothing around the Greater Good/Geary avenue. So if you don't want pizza or need something from the dep, I'd recommend getting it BEFORE you visit. I will definitely be returning to this unique bar. read more

I've been here a few times over the past year but keep forgetting to leave a review, the staff is super friendly, the beer selection is really good and the place usually brings in a good crowed of people that are always nice to one another and respectful of the environment. Some bars these days seem to attract drunk dummies that get out of hand and ruin a good time for everyone, not here. I've had the pizza and it's alright, nothing to write home about but it's good to have the option of eating something while having a drink with your friends. The beer is always cold and the vibes make this place lots of fun, the only complaint I have is the music is really loud and the sound system sucks lol but after a few drinks who's really listening anyway hahaha. Great hangout spot. If you like Get Well on Dundas W, The Greater Good Bar is just that but bigger. Two floors with North of Brooklyn pizza, arcade games upstairs, and a wide selection of craft beers to choose from. The only reason we left after an hour was because even though it is a large space, the seating is limited and typically taken by large groups. When you walk in, you are immediately in a crowded area as the bar is seated, yet is the only way to order drinks as well. read more

If you've been wishing for Barcade to come to Toronto, Greater Good Bar is the answer. They have an uncommonly good beer selection. That cucumber gose is my beer of the moment and this is the only spot that's serving it. Every detail has been obsessed over in this space. It's perfect for groups. You're about to discover which of your friends is ruthlessly competitive. Just be ready to get pizza, because it's impossible to resist getting a pie when the whole place smells like delicious pizza. I went here with a buddy a few weeks ago while on vacation in Toronto. Arrived around 11 PM on a Wednesday and the atmosphere was great! Lots of people enjoying drinks and scattered around the bar, high tops, tables, and outside patio. We sat at the bar while we waited for our pizza from the on site pizza shoppe. That was delicious! Came here on a Friday with three people. The place is very spacious and well lit thanks to the big storefront windows. Most seatings are on the first floor and in the patio, but the patio was closed because some tables need to fixed. On the second floor there are seven free arcade games, two skee ball machines ($1, wish it was cheaper) and two pin ball machines ($1 for 1 or $2 for 3). This bar serves a variety of craft beer and freshly made pizzas and garlic knots. We had the garlic knots and 18" Killer Bee pizza (Calabrese sausage, Serrano peppers, pickled red onions, honey, mozzarella), eight slices, perfect amount for four people. The garlic knots were sprinkled with cheese and herbs, delicious and not greasy. The pizza had a good balance of sweet and spicy flavour, the dough was just the right thickness. The place started to pick up and got louder after 9pm, lights were dimmed and candles were lit. Overall a fun place to hang out for the young-at-heart's, a great addition to the neighborhood.
