An unquestionable classic dive. I love it here and it isn't just the memories of years and drunks passed. It's probably been close to a decade since I last hit the Done Right for a bit of day drinking but it's like I never left. I haven't been a smoker in over ten years but the second I walked in I wanted to fire up a dart. It felt like it hadn't been any longer ago than just yesterday since I sat down at the bar and ordered a double Jameson on the rocks when I did it today. My friends had a great time closing out this bar on a Friday night. Nothing gets better than this beautiful back patio, which a tree canopy and strings of lights. The seating is comfortable and great for a big group or a more intimate gathering. Lots of decent-to-good beers to choose from by the pitcher. They also have some really excellent beer's, Mill Street's Cobblestone Stout bein my personal fave. So we were wandering across Queen Street on St. Patrick's Day looking for a pub to grab a drink or two, when we stumbled upon the Done Right Inn. My dining companion had mentioned the joint before, so I was definitely curious. We walked in and immediately secured a table right by the window. The bar was pretty busy with afternoon revelers and my dining companion noted that this is the kind of place where you go order your drinks and return to the table with them It's a very cool, laid-back little joint. The ambiance was fun and relaxed, and the bartender was friendly and helpful. I had been warned ahead of time of the cash-only policy, and while it's a bit of a bummer, it also adds to the pub's throwback, dive-bar quality. read more

Once described by NOW as "so laid back, it's almost prone," the Done Right is a haven for the Queen West arts community, where lucky writers like myself have enjoyed sharing cold pints with other writers, artists, actors, musicians, and other assorted happy riffraff. When their resident spinner, DJ Spite, is up, you can be assured of a colourful tapestry of tunage to go with your brews. And they're even cool with you bringing in your own food, since they don't serve any. The back patio is awesome with its high booths and the tree that yawns upward from its centre. The bartenders are all sassy and clever, each a unique personality bringing different energy and vibe with them. Their on-tap choices may be small, but its well selected, and plenty of other options stand cold in the coolers. This is a Queen West person's Queen West bar. Beware of imitations. read more

If it's warm enough to sit outside but you don't have many dollars in your pockets, do right by yourself and come to The Done Right Inn. Some of the clientele is questionable, but I'd take colourful characters over $15 cocktails any day. The back patio has giant wood booths, big shading trees and twinkle lights. I don't think they serve *real* food, but even if they did the gruff interior of this joint would likely prevent me from ordering it. $5.50 for Bulliet and $5 beers will keep myself and my friends coming back. This was my favorite bar in Toronto. They accept Canadian Tire money. I got a pretty good lesson on Canadian Tire money because of this. I also learned that bars need to pay over $3 for a trash bag and how recycling is mandatory in Canada. I wish America would adopt some of these policies. No menu, they don't serve food here! Bring your own food & that's what they'll tell you to do! Which I think is pretty cool. Thanks to Devyn G's ROTD of this place, I was pleasantly reminded at how great the Done Right Inn is, and how I should visit more often. I made a point to meet a friend there the other night, knowing that they would share my attraction to the bar's laid back atmosphere. I think I share the same sentiment as some of my fellow Yelpers do, that I want to keep this place from turning into something bad or worse, trendy. I compare it to finding a good hairstylist or a good tailor: after a long search and numerous disappointments, finding the right combination of good service and a relaxed atmosphere is hard to come by, especially for a bar. It's been a few days since my last visit but I'll be back. For now, I'm saving up my Canadian Tire money because I know I'll have a better use of it here than at said store. read more

You can say a lot of things about this place, but most will agree, this isn't like having a cocktail at the Ritz. Grandma's old couch at the front, with a large patio at the back, there's a plenty of good seats for everyone. The bar is well stocked and beers come fast. We were on a whiskey tour that night, but balanced it out with a few local beers on tap. There's a filthy fooseball table in the back too if you want to play a round of jitz! I love going to the done right with a friend to chat (it's quiet enough) and observe the locals. it's always interesting, as you can see from the other reviews here too. they also have some decent beers on tap, which is super important. (i think i drink mcdonald or something when i'm there). the regulars are so friendly too, usually a bit too drunk and they just enter your conversation like it's the most natural thing in the world. only 4 stars because the service can be sort of unenthusiastic and the bathrooms are pretty bad (no mirror in one, leaks on the floor, bad smells). on the other hand the service is sometimes really awesome, but here's my story: two summers ago i ended up at the done right often on a sunday afternoon with my friend. we'd finish our shifts around 5 or 6 and go hang out on their patio drinking gin bloody mary's/caesars. i'm vegan so i get them made with tomato juice. the bar tenders would sometimes add all kinds of stuff in addition to horse radish like olives and it was awesome. but this particular time the bitchy server ran out of tomato juice so i ran across the street to buy some at the convenience store (after i've spent like $20 on these expensive double shot drinks) and she still charged me full price (like $7-8?) for the drink. regardless, i still like to go here and bring along some good company, but i don't mind being earlier than my date either since it's such an entertaining place to be. read more

So, at the Done Right.. usually a fairly calm place (sort of)... Myselfand Alex have stopped in for a pint before going home, MacClains and aSt. Andre please, all is well... In comes 'Crazy Gypsy Lady', dressed all in black, black head scarf andall, maybe more of a Jawa than Gypsy, I don't know the Genealogyinvolved.. So here she is right beside me, her face is entirelyplastered with thick gobs of red lipstick, and a ball of smearedmakeup?Blood?Feces? for a third eye.. she is about 1 foot away from myface mumbling and rearranging small scraps of paper in herpurse/bag/evil carrier. She manages to get it together to buy a beer from the bar and moves toa table behind Alex The Bastard with her scraps of paper and generalmalaise..this is better, but not great as she is in my peripheral, theworst place, she's right behind Alex, he can't see her, he's sittingpretty...Alex the Bastard. Now, also in the bar is Strange Drunk Girl (College is back in you know)I've not seen her before, she is quite drunk.. It would seem that she isinterested in talking to Crazy Gypsy Lady. So Strange Drunk Girlinterrupts the frantic lipstick smearing that's going on, Strange DrunkGirl and Crazy Gypsy Lady are talking, hitting it off it seems. Strange Drunk Girl nowstarts yelling at her about how they should go have sex, but can't causeshe's on her period (I am getting seriously creeped out at this point)..Around this time it becomes apparent that Strange Drunk Girl has withher Reluctant Male Friend. Reluctant Male Friend finally steps in andextricates Strange Drunk Girl, I am pleased.. Now its just Crazy Gypsy Lady.. She is very agitated, in an excitedstate if you like.. The Lipstick smearing is going full steam, rammingit into her nostrils, teeth, ears, really disturbing... Alex the bastardis calmly staring forward, why wont' he look! I try and make Alex look,to share the pain, he won't. Crazy Gypsy Lady now wants to dance more, she is about 1 foot behindAlex The Bastard, gyrating, pulling up her dress/cape/rags and generallypleasing herself in a very frantic manner (there was inappropriatetouching) . Keep in mind, this is 1 foot behind Alex the Bastard ,whohas tranced out to avoid the situation, and about 3 ft. to my left, thisgoes on for several minutes, I am frozen, it is ghastly.. Crazy Gypsy Lady returns to her seat, more frantic lipstickapplication.. I have to stress that there are literally gobs of bloodred lipstick hanging off her face.. Such a fun little dive bar! They even allow you to bring your dogs (although I'm not sure that I should actually be writing that...perhaps it's a hidden thing...oopsy). Anyways, it's dark, rough (in a good way), has a great vibe (chilled out, non-hipster) and attracts a bunch of different people. Sure the beer may be warm and there is no AC indoors. Yea maybe skunks frequent the patio, and all the tables are wobbly but man this place feels like home. I spent over about a year and a half living in this neighbourhood and stumbled in to this bar on a whim one day because the sign out front said there was a patio. I'm happy I did because it has become my favorite bar. This summer though it seems to have picked up a lot and you're lucky if you can find a spot on the patio even on a Tuesday night. "Shut up and pass me the Janga" is quite frankly the only thing I remember saying that night until it all went into a beautiful drunken haze! It was a Sunday (don't judge me) and part deux of the Yelp Elite/my birthday after parties. I dragged along my hubby and friend Chris to participate in the debauchery. Let's start with the things I do remember... I remember this place being small, dark and random (similarities to my OWN description are purely coincidental at this time). It looked like a cozy dive bar for regulars and Queen Street West-ers alike. The funny thing is I have probably passed this place a million times and never knew it was a bar! The patio is sick! The foosball table was convenient, and the bathrooms were certifiably scary ass hell! Now for the parts I don't remember... I found the most amazing earth shattering cider in the world. The type of cider that if in the wrong hands could spell the end of civilization it self. The name of this cider you ask?! Torn. I want to like this bar but the service I had at the time kind of sucked. [Warning rant ahead] I'm waiting and waiting with my wallet out, ready to burn some cash but instead I see other patrons come in and get served before me and it kind of sucks. It's not even busy and I have to re position myself and flag the bartender just before he gets comfortable and sits to on the bar top behind and ask him if I could get a drink. I'm not picky or high maintenance (I've worked behind a bar, I get it, customers need to be patient sometimes, but this was just plain lazy). Other than that, I enjoyed the atmosphere, its dive, chill and has a sweet patio. Last time I was in, the kegs weren't working--but that was a great excuse to drink a lot of whiskey instead. I really appreciate the laid back attitude of this place amongst a bunch of more uptight Queen street bars. I popped in here after checking out Yelp Toronto reviews. I walked right past it, there is a sign, but not so as you'd notice. Inside it seems like it wasn't designed it just kind of happened almost as if someone had put a random selection of bar ingredients: furniture, kitchen equipment, lighting etc into a cocktail shaker and just upended it into a room. The staff are friendly and the place seems somewhat homely and comfortable. Apparently it's been open 11 years. This was my second visit to The Done Right Inn and I was just as taken with it as I was on my first visit. Now let's be clear, right up front, this is no fancy schmancy cocktail bar, this is an old school drinking establishment with an awesome back patio. The room itself is deep and narrow like you would expect on Queen Street West in an old building. Seating is a limited to a few tables and along the bar and then the patio. The back patio is big, pet friendly and features a massive tree that is probably as old as the neighborhood. The tap selection is small but a nice mix of microbrews and old school stand bys. After all do you really need 30 different choices on tap to have a good time? Service on both visits was friendly and effecient. While sitting at the bar attention is quick when you look to need a refill but no one is pushing you to place another order or rushing you out the door. This will definitely be a place I will continue to frequent everytime I am in Toronto. read more

A great little (re: narrow) dive bar in the Trin-Bell area. Seems to have a really interesting acoustic anomoly where you're able to hear individual groups of conversation, distinctly and yet all at once. The people watching/listening was definitely entertaining - kind of like playing Grand Theft Auto and picking up on bits of conversations at the most opportune times. I've also seen a number of people with their dogs in the bar, which is an extra star from me. Tip - It's cash only and packs up quick on a weekend, so be prepared to stand. read more

Absolutely blown away by the staff here. We called in whilst exploring the area, and tried to order my straight edge husband a root beer (which they don't do). So I ordered a beer and we all sat down, two seconds later, the guy from the bar put down a bottle of mug root beer that he had just gone across the street and bought. This was such a huge gesture and, what I would say, above and beyond the regular duties of any kind of bar staff. We were so pleased, we will return as soon as we can. The Truth of the Done Right is that it is a sanctuary in the middle of hipster land. A 'watering hole' in the best sense. seems like the regualrs rule here and friendly casual conversation is the tone. A great place to escape to for a beer after work or when you need a 'Cheers' momement. They will welcome you, pour you a cold drink and keep the tunes coming. It is scuffed, scratched and a little dark, all things I want in a club house. You might be in someone's amazing rec room bar or a small university pub, either way, get your butt into one their mismatched seats and let the happy chatter wash over you as you unwind. Not for the high heeled import car set, I can often find the staff of the queen st scene hiding out here from the 'tourists'.
