Incompetent Repair and Hostile, Unprofessional Ownership…read more Performance Auto Placentia is run like a prison yard, not a professional auto repair shop. In February, I paid this shop to replace the water pump and timing belt on my 2004 Lexus. The job was botched. I have had to bring the vehicle back twice, the belts are still squeaking, and it still smells strongly of radiator fluid. When confronted with his failed work, the owner completely deflected, claiming it was a "different car" instead of taking responsibility for a paid job that was never fixed properly. I am now forced to take my vehicle elsewhere to have it repaired correctly. On top of technical incompetence, the owner is incredibly rude, condescending, and confrontational. He has zero customer service skills or basic respect. Yesterday, I paid over $600 to have brakes put on my 2017 Lexus. The owner told me to come back the next morning at 7:30 AM for a quick "five-minute turn on the wrenches" to make an adjustment. I showed up early and waited quietly. Instead of doing the work, the owner came out and aggressively lectured me about being early like he is some kind of God. He is an aggressive, rude control freak who tries to exert arbitrary power over paying customers. He knew clearly that I am currently grieving the profound loss of my father, yet he chose to act with absolute malice and a total lack of proper bedside manner. I looked him dead in the eye at 7:42 AM and told him face-to-face that he will never recover from this. He has permanently ruined his shop's reputation with me, his son should be ashamed of his behavior, and I am entirely done dealing with this business. Avoid this shop at all costs. Response to the owners reply to my review: You were on site, the belt needed re-tightening, and you sent me away instead of doing the five-minute adjustment you asked me to return for. You say there was no aggression, then apologize for being heated. Both can't be true. Calmly raising a concern isn't 'telling you off.' You also never addressed the coolant smell that has persisted since the February water pump job. A shop that asks a customer to come back should be ready when they do. Because of how this was handled, I now have to take my car to another shop and pay out of pocket to have the work done correctly. A detailed complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair-BAR has been submitted for the poor workmanship and libelous/untrue writings to this review by the owner. All records and writings have been preserved as evidence.

Gary, the manager, personally added oil and had a lovely young man who was, of course, sweating, added air to my tires. This is the great service this location of Expertec provides. Normally, it's preferable to make an appointment and Mike will drive you home or to the office AND pick you up when your car is ready. I have never had such good service anywhere! I'm not a mechanic by any means but I'm also super wary of being taken advantage of which happens almost every where I go. I will say they did tell me my car passed their inspection then tried to recommend a bunch of services I'd had done recently. They didn't push me to get them or try to scare me into thinking my car was going to explode if I didn't do the recommended services lol. This showed me that this company cares about its reputation and had high standard of customer service. We talked and Thomas told me he would refund me the cost of the alternator. I received the money but it was more than just the money that left a great impression upon me. It was the honesty, integrity and the willingness to listen to my less-than-great initial experience. Because of that, I came back for multiple oil changes. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was completely different. I was charged a high price for what should have been a simple oil change and cabin/air filter replacement, and I ended up waiting about two hours for the work to be completed. After talking it through with someone more familiar with car maintenance, it became clear that I was likely overcharged for a job that should have been quicker and more reasonably priced. What made the experience worse was the interaction before my appointment. When I asked for clarification about being told I may need "air," EU laughed at me for asking. I'm neurodivergent and sometimes take things more literally, so I was just trying to confirm whether I was being charged for something that is often free. Instead of explaining, I felt mocked for asking a simple question. Because of this experience, I no longer feel comfortable or confident returning here. I'm sharing this as a caution for other customers--especially women and neurodivergent people--who may not be as familiar with car maintenance and rely on mechanics to be honest, respectful, and transparent.

I'm not mechanically skilled, so it was good to see how they checked for puncturing. And by extension, showing that work is being done. Some other shops will say they did services but just cold pitch it to upsell. I appreciate the team for helping me get on my way. My YA daughter brings her jeep in as well and I never have to worry about them taking advantage of her. So many times the dealer tells her she needs XYZ for $$$ and we get a second opinion from A&G for a better price or get an honest opinion from them that the work isn't even needed. These guys truly care about their customers, are genuine, and always so professional. Service is timely with personal updates and automated texts when the work starts and finishes.
