I needed a pre-purchase inspection on a used electric mini SE that I was purchasing remotely and would not have a chance to personally see the car. Frank was able to do the inspection within 24 hours (and actually offered to show up within 2 hours but I wasn't done negotiating some details with the dealer!), took a bunch of photos and videos along with a test drive and close inspection for evidence of an un-reported accident. He also used his souped-up OBD reader, which had access to more info & codes than my basic amazon OBD reader and found some codes. Although the codes ended up not being an issue I was very glad to have been made aware of them and have peace of mind that there was nothing else hidden in the system. Unlike the other mobile mechanic I contacted, Frank also was open to taking off the tires to get better access to the suspension, steering and brakes for inspection. Ultimately the dealer didn't let us take off the tires, but I appreciated the Frank was game to do it to get an even closer inspection if we had been allowed to do so. Went to shit. Took off w Money he was supposed to get a part for my car with. Blew me off. Kept saying he was busy. Etc.

This person is not a mechanic. He is not qualified to do a mechanical work on a car. Just because you have an OBD scanner does not make you mechanic. First he said he did work on my German car on the phone, he said yes I've change ignition coils and spark plugs. So I gave home a shot. He arrived I asked him if he knew where coil # 5 is, he said it's either on this side or that side. That should have been my clue to dismiss this guy but I needed the work done. Then he asked me how to remove the manifold again i should have dismissed this guy. So he did all the work from the side. What ended up happening he replaced the coil andthe car now had different symptoms and different OBD codes. He said he didn't know why. I asked him to fix it he said no. i just told him to leave. I then took the car to a reputable shop around the corner which should have done and guess what. The guy said whoever replaced your coil messed with the wiring. DONT TRUST THIS GUY. He won't even return calls or messages. His lack of knowledge caused the secondary issue. Don't do business with this guy. BUYER BEWARE! He was watching videos on how to do the job. He is NOT QUALIFIED! read more

This guy is a con artists. He gave me several diagnosis's in a short amount of time regarding the issue with my truck, all of which were incorrect. He claims that the $100 diagnosis fee would be applied towards fixing the vehicle, but then tells me he "doesn't actually do that sort of repair." Because of his lack of knowledge, I ended up waiting several hours of my time trying to fix the issue without any change to the vehicles performance. Then when I reached out to him to let him know that wasn't the problem and that I needed more help, he told me to stop harassing him..... Now I'm sure that if you need something simple like an oil change, then he'd be able to handle that but for anything more serious involving a check engine light, go to a real mechanic. read more

This review is long overdue, but I wanted to thank Frank for his amazing work and flexibility after my 2004 Toyota Camry would not start from a leaky battery. I tried to clean my leaking battery but I broke a terminal connection. Since I was not able to start the car due to the bad connection, I messaged Frank on Yelp for his help that evening on a Saturday. To my surprise, Frank responded within 15 minutes and asked for my vehicle details and location so that he could be there after another job. By 6PM, he texted me that he would at my car soon and went to work. The battery terminal was extremely difficult to replace since the acid ate through part of the connector. But Frank managed to get it replaced with his own parts. Unfortunately, the car would not start, so Frank went through his troubleshooting checklist and realized that my idle RPM was too low. He stayed for an extra hour to help my car relearn its idle and be able to start successfully. Frank charges a fair price, and you will be in great hands with his expertise and knowledge as a mechanic. I am more than happy to recommend Frank if you cannot make your way to a shop. Thanks Frank! Tips: - If you are parked on the street, try to park next to a lamp post if it's night time for extra visibility - If you have to park a bit far from your apartment/house, use this time to clean/organize your car in case Frank needs you - But give your mechanics space! UPDATE BELOW - IGNORE INITIAL REVIEW Absolutely great! We contacted Frank about a Ford E450 stuck in park a few days ago. The following day I explained our situation and we made an appointment for the next morning. He gave us a heads up when he was on his way and was punctual and friendly. Most importantly, he got down to the root of the problem and helped us get the vehicle out of park again for street sweeping. The vehicle still needs a specific part, but at least we can drive it to the shop! Frank's rate is great and I highly recommend him; We will be using his services in the future! Thank you again! UPDATE We had Frank come out and work on our E450 shuttle bus conversion- the gearshift was stuck in park. We are full time living in our bus, @treehousebus so it's really difficult to take it to a shop and cough up the money to stay in a hotel for as long as it takes for them to finish. I messaged him with the situation and kind of vehicle, asking if it was out of his wheelhouse and knowledge to work on- he seemed confident he could fix it. After his arrival Frank and I discussed that it was potentially a fuse, and after deliberation he decided it was not the fuse. He did not check the fuse, and he unplugged all kinds of things under the dash, before claiming it was something beyond his knowledge and we needed to take it to a shop to get a specific part. Turns out- it was the fuse. $300 in hotel expenses, and $150 to another mechanic later, they fixed something that could have been done for less than $20. Not only that, but after Frank's visit- our turn signals stopped working. Another $650, and $300 in hotel expenses- I took the bus to a diesel specialist and they said that there is now a plethora of electrical problems, all sourced with what Frank messed with the day we had him come out. I'm thoroughly disappointed with the outcome of our vehicle inspection. I say inspection, because he in fact did not fix anything- he made it worse. This is not just our vehicle, it is our home- now due to the work we had him do, my home is not legally driveable and he is prohibiting our travels (and my traveling business) even further. The fact that we initially left him such a nice review is a blatant smack in the face. I messaged him regarding the damage done and he ghosted me. I would've asked him to come out and remedy the situation, but I'm terrified to even have him touch my vehicle again. If you need some simple task like getting your oil changed, he might work out for you. Anything more serious pertaining to your situation, I highly recommend seeking aid elsewhere. read more

I called Frank and experienced a call back with 2 hours with excellent communication and willingness to come out on a Sunday. Frank texted an estimated time which turned out to be very accurate and texted when he was en route and arrived promptly when he said he would. Frank's trunk of his VW was extremely organized and complete. Frank replaced the alternator with a factory replacement and had diagnosed the problem correctly. So after work my car wouldn't start. A lot of shops were closed and I did not have AAA. I like the concept of the mechanic going to you so I thought I'd give Frank a try. I figured it was the starter so I called him and let him know. It was late in the day so he said he could help me out the next day which was fine. He let me know when to expect him late afternoon, and to my surprise he called me in the morning to let me know he could come in the morning because an appointment cancel on him. Well all I can say is he provides great work and doesn't try to scam you by scaring you to get more work done like other mechanics. He is upfront and reasonably priced and stays in communication so you know that he is coming. He is well connected in the Costa Mesa area so he can get parts right away if it is early enough in the day.
