Hired Gerard and Darrell to perform a structural inspection of a property I was interested in buying. Darrell is the actual technician that does the site inspection and measurements while Gerard handles tying the report together, scheduling appointments, and answering any questions. Gerard was prompt with scheduling, clear with expectations on what was to be inspected, and offered great value for his services and communication. Darrell was on-time, did a very, very thorough job with foundation measurements and inspection of the structure of the property including the attic and the exterior for things that may pose a future risk to the property. The report was thorough, timely, and helped me make an informed decision about the property purchase. I thoroughly recommend reaching out to Gerard for services. read more

Recently bought a house. Called Gerard to have a baseline report of health conditions of our house foundation. Darrell came on time and spent many hours to perform measurements. He did this process in a very thorough approach. He also gave on-site advices on what we should pay attention to such as grading and tree roots. The report from Gerard is also detail-oriented. It includes all the measurements. Gerard also listed observations on potential symptoms. Along with his evaluations and suggestions. This report helped us as a guidance to fix our yard and house perimeters down the road. The value of the service is well worth the price. Highly recommended. read more

We recently employed Mr Duhon's company for a home review. Darrell, a senior PE personally conducted same. We found him to be a true professional in his field. He took the time (freely), to discuss questions we had, and point out elements we had not considered. His measurement format was methodical and logical. Both my wife and myself appreciated his candor and knowledge. I would heartily recommend him to anyone for foundation and structure investigative work. We are looking forward to our final report. Lastly, if we should require these services again, we would without doubt hire Mr Duhon's team. read more

Responsive. Showed up on time. Report given next morning for beam recommendation for a wall removal.

Mr. Duhon inspected our home, explained what was going on structurally, and wrote a report describing what steps we needed to take to prevent our roof from failing. He also recommended yard grading to keep water from the pier and beam crawlspace under our beloved 1934 bungalow. The inspection costs were fair, and I wholeheartedly recommend Houston Structural Engineering Services. read more

Responded quickly. Was very knowledgeable. Did a thorough inspection. Very attentive.

We hired Gerard to get what we thought was an unbiased opinion on my Moms foundation issues based on his information on Yelp. After meeting with his associate that he sent to our house, Gerard did not personally come, and then getting the report that Gerard sent from his associates findings, it is very apparent that Gerard is in business with a tree root barrier company. He does not offer an unbiased opinion. This is my main concern with Gerard is that how he presented and charges for his services, is not actually what you are getting. I was charged $380 for what I thought was an unbiased opinion and when I voiced my concerns with Gerard and asked for a refund, I was told "as Judy says, if you eat the steak, you pay the cost". My other concerns: the person who came to the house was late and rude. When we were asking questions, he would yawn exaggeratedly as though he did not want to be there and even said "I have other places to be". This is all after he spent over 3 hours at our house inspecting it- we were not told how long to expect him to be there and was not planning on it taking so long. Gerard also texted me at 5:58 in the morning to ask a question, waking my husband and myself up. He obviously has no respect for his customers and their time (early morning text and his colleague showed up late to appointment). As an update: If you are not in business or have a financial connection with this specific landscaping company, how can you warranty the work between the two companies? Why would an unbiased company with no connection take on that risk? I have attached a screenshot of the report that says this. I asked for a refund only after receiving your report that is obvious a biased opinion and that is not how you presented your services on Yelp. I have received biased opinions from engineers at foundation companies for free. I kept my end of the deal and paid you for a service I thought I was getting- an unbiased opinion on what foundation issues we were having. You did not keep you end of the deal and are scamming people. Also, maybe you should proof read your emails before you send them, that way I can get a full understanding of the Judy and steak comment. I guess it is nice that you are now apologizing for your colleague being late and for texting at an unprofessional time, since you did not chose to do that in the email you sent me. read more

Gerard J Duhon, PE - Structural Engineers Near Me - Houston, Texas

Did a great job surveying my property in new territory. It had prior foundation repair so we wanted to be sure. He came out himself and checked it out. Also later answered questions on a property we were considering in the woodlands. Great service. read more

Gerard came at the recommendation of another engineering firm once it was determined my scheduling needs were not able to fit with their availability. I contacted Gerard and within a few back and forth messages was able to get an appointment. Darrell Bowles was the P.E. who came out to do the measurements and inspections. Specifically we noted separation in an expansion joint as we as cracks along our window trim, one interior wall and tile flooring. The appointment was scheduled for 2 PM on a Tuesday, as Gerard sets appointment times the nights before to optimize the routes and schedules of inspections for the following day. Darrell showed up within 5-10 minutes of our appointment and immediately went to work completing a detailed measurement and inspection of the outside of our home. After about 1.5 hours he came inside and went through his measurement and inspections in about 3 hours. Darrell did and excellent and very thorough job and discussed his finding at the end of his inspection. He seemed abundantly detailed and did his best to work around my wife and I as he completed his work. After the appointment and the preliminary findings, Gerard reviewed Darrells notes and sent us a report with his conclusions and recommendations for remediation. He made a contractor recommendation for the work that needs to be done. I would absolutely recommend Gerard and his team for other homeowners/business that need inspection and measurements from a structural engineer. The work was extremely thorough and complete and the process was fairly straightforward. read more

Gerard was attentive and thorough. He provided a detailed verbal explanation and a follow-up written report. He provided cost-effective solutions for all known problems. We were concerned about our foundation, but he identified that the attic rafters were the culprit. He's honest and genuinely interested in getting to the root of the issue. His consultation was well worth the fee. read more

Mr. Duhon has helped a handful of my clients assess their foundation. They have a peace of mind knowing he has given them their professional opinion. Anytime a client is concerned about structural issues, he is the first person I call. read more

Gerard Duhon performed an inspection for us related to a drainage issue. He helped us by providing a second opinion regarding our home. The other engineer who will not be named wrote an inaccurate report for us indicating issues which were dubious. Gerard set us straight and we really appreciated his expertise for our matter. read more

I am so glad I contacted Gerard Duhon because he made a potentially economically, devastating situation very affordable and easy! The foundation report is beyond worth it and a must! I had a quoted from one company that said it was $17K to fix my garage foundation. Gerard's report and recommendations saved me well over 80% of that! Honesty and Integrity are hard to find in this business --especially when it comes to foundation issues...so stay ahead with there correct info when you start getting quotes. Even if you don't think you need an engineer's opinion about your foundation, get it and get it from Gerard Duhon! read more

Honest, direct and all business. I appreciated all of his advice and information to help me make an informative decision on a home purchase. I also appreciated his support while the builders were there. They explained to me it was a simple issue, but Gerard set them straight! read more

I was naive so I bought a house that had foundation repair. 6 months later cracks started to appear. I called Mr. Duhon and he was very professional. He set my mind at ease because I was freaking out. I was ready to spend 6K to reinforce the foundations. I got the report back quickly and he recommended root barriers first. I'm thankful because it saved me alot of money in the present. Perhaps I will still need to do some limited repair later on but it won't be as expensive as what is recommended by the foundation companies. read more

Professional and took the time to evaluate things thoroughly. We appreciated him answering all our questions and following up with asked.

I just called and he reviewed existing quotes from other foundation companies and gave his feedback without charging any fees! Great customer service! read more

My home has a pier and beam foundation along with a concrete perimeter beam. We were having some sagging issues, and called several well-known foundation repair companies in Houston. We received bids from $4,500 to $17,000, and all said we needed push piers. I decided to get an engineer's opinion, and found Gerard through some online review sites that ranked him highly. He came out, did a thorough inspection, answered my lengthy list of question, and did so in a professional manner. His conclusion was that I didn't need any push piers, only some minor framing work. I ended up saving thousands of dollars, and the piece of mind was priceless. I would highly recommend Gerard for a residential foundation assessment. read more

I have engaged the services of Mr. Duhon on several occasions. He has inspected and evaluated my foundation issues, drainage issues, root barrier issues, and structural support issues. His work has always been professional, and thorough. His advice practical and reasonable. I had tried other professional engineers in the past and much prefer Mr. Duhon. He is busy but worth waiting for (and the wait is not very long). If you have virtually anything that he is qualified to evaluate I would recommend that you consider him first. If you're not sure, just call him. read more
