We were going to be in the Gainesville area later on Saturday and didn't want to drive several…read morehours to get home. We had been familiar with the are about 20 years ago and opted to just stay overnight to see how it had changed, etc. I did some research and opted to stay here, partly as I already knew the location. We arrived around 6:30 p.m. Check-in was easy. They have self-parking around most of the building and do not charge you for it. The room was fairly spacious. The entry hall was a bit of a choke-point versus the entrance to the bathroom, but it wasn't a real problem. The shower stall was also a bit narrow, but manageable. The room was dark at night and quiet. Despite the hotel's location on a main road in town, I wasn't really aware of traffic noise. The location is about 3 - 4 blocks from Gainesville's square. There are several restaurants within 1 block. If the weather is nice, the whole area is very walkable. Entry to the hotel is primarily off Jesse Jewel Pkwy, which is busy. There is basically a U-turn into the front entrance. However, there is a small spur road that also connects to the parking lot and alows easy access to the square. The layout is a bit odd, but once you see it, it's easy. Breakfast the next morning was pretty good - basically back to pre-pandemic standards. They had ham, scrambled eggs, various bread + toaster, a waffle machine, cereal, yogurt, etc. If I were staying in Gainesville again, I'd consider staying here.

I stayed here recently for one night on a business trip. I doubt I will stay here again…read more My biggest complaint is that the gym was tiny and they only had one treadmill. The one treadmill they had was broken. Although they haven't officially launched this yet, they are trying to charge for parking. Pretty shocking to do that in Gainesville! I didn't like the hotel's location, just off a major road, since you hear a lot of street noise and it is difficult to get in or out of the parking lot. On the plus side, the room was clean and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The front desk staff was nice. Also, the hotel seemed to be reasonably insulated for sound from interior noise. In other words, I didn't really hear neighbors, elevators, or people walking up and down the hall.

We selected this hotel based on…read morevarious site's 4+ average ratings and the desire to burn Marriott points before we lost them. The staff was friendly. This hotel is a little tired/worn though. I think a little attention to detail could overcome some of these things, e.g., our bathroom had a dead bulb the night we checked in and the nice note written by housekeeping was on a tablet with a coffee spill. The next day another bathroom light bulb went out so I had to ask for two bulbs. The next night the tv wouldn't turn off so we had to unplug it but then in the morning the tv would comeback on after we plugged it back in. The fitness room was closed for much of our stay due to an HVAC problem but guests could use the Marriott Townsuites fitness room (the hotels have adjoining parking g lots). The breakfast service was back to normal/pre-COVID and they have an A (99 out of 100) health inspection rating. There is a laundry on the second floor with generously sized washer and dryer, which was $3 per wash and $3 per dry. Some evenings there was fresh chocolate chip cookies in the lobby. The internet signal was good. My husband and I both worked remotely on a few days of our stay and had no trouble with video calls, email, etc. I don't think if we're in the area that we'd stay here again.

They went above and beyond in making sure we could check in before my surgery so there was an easy transition back to the hotel. No bath soap, they don't provide, so we had to go buy it... another inconvenience (& expense). Whatever. We were staying there, in town for my dad's funeral... needless to say, wasn't sleeping well for several nights. Getting a call at 5:30 in the morning from the front desk (who knew why we were in town) when I was actually finally sleeping was so NOT appreciated. Of course didn't go back to sleep because the mind starts going with the grief. I had called the night before that our coffee maker wasn't working and needed a replacement. She said we'd have to wait until morning for maintenance. I told her "no worries, tomorrow would be fine." So she CALLED the room at 5:30 am to let me know they could replace it! ‍ I complained, but what can they do except apologize? Well... actually there's plenty they could offer to do, but didn't. My husband and I both wound up getting sick (we all know lack of sleep compromises the immune system). I don't appreciate their contribution to that. I know some hotels, when they make a mistake - offer points, free pantry item, or just some token to at least help show kindness for THEIR MISTAKE. But apparently not this hotel. They goof... you suffer... who cares.

The room is clean and freshly updated (countertops, paint, fixtures, TV, etc) and it was quiet at night. But, it is a motel, and I think typical of motels with outdoor entrances, the room constantly had a damp feel to it. Room had fridge, microwave, and mini freezer. Breakfast was a joke. 2 kinds of cereal, generic brand wrapped cinnamon rolls, one apple, packs of oatmeal, and white bread. We went to the store and bought fruit and granola for the rest of our breakfasts here because it's not worth it to go to the lobby even if it is "free." We probably wouldn't stay here again because we typically like hotels that are a little more upscale, but we think our experience could have been a lot worse. Thankful the room was clean! That's always my main concern.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE REVIEW I WROTE AND POSTED: Sounds odd, but this Super 8 review should be higher but for; 1. The late night lobby air was warm, humid and ponged like "odeur of dirty underwear". I would have left but for the very late night hour. A very bad start. 2. The foreign assistant assigned us an uncleaned room to start and immediately assigned another after notice. 3. ADDITIONALLY, this Super 8 franchisee charges a $50 DEPOSIT REFUNDABLE (2-5) DAYS AFTER CHECKOUT. I GET CHARGED ADDITIONAL iNTEREST. All of the above occurred immediately upon arrival and trashed the whole experience. It was straight up self-inflicted incompetence. I would never stay there again. Could have been OK.

The hallways looked…read morelike something straight out of a horror movie, with disgustingly dim lights that gave the place a creepy vibe. It feels like they have zero internal communication--despite my request for a noon checkout and the 'Do Not Disturb' sign, housekeeping started knocking at 10 AM like relentless insects. The only mildly redeeming factor (and I say mildly) was the front desk guy from last night who took the time to walk us to our room after we struggled to get the door open. But honestly, everything else was lackluster. The room was filled with annoying noises--the AC vents clicked and clacked, the refrigerator popped loudly every five seconds, and the floors were far from well-kept. The bed was decent, I'll give them that, but overall, this place was not it. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you have absolutely no other choice. That was the case for us last night since every other hotel was booked.

Whoever owns this needs to gut this whole hotel. First issue:The main elevator does not work. The second elevator is in the very back of the hotel which is a long walk. Second Issue: We had to change rooms THREE times before we got a semi decent room. First room, the toilet was leaking all over the floor. Going to the second room, housekeeping left linen ON the floor outside the door. Even with it being on a bag that is NOT sanitary. Second room we had to figure out HOW to get in the room the door handle opens the opposite way and then the light covering is missing and laying ON the counter in the bathroom. The third room finally looked livable. But came back in my room to find a bug on my pillow!!!!! I will NEVER come back here!!!!! On top of the fact we are here for an event and there is NO heat in the large ballroom and they didn't even notify the people on the contract until day of and threatened to call the police because one of the contract holders was asking questions!!! This is just crazy.
