Quite frankly I love Georgetown. I love most components about it sans the traffic on M Street, There seems to be virtually no time you can drive down there without being stuck in traffic for 15 minutes even if driving on a Sunday morning in January. It is always busy! Why do I love Georgetown? * Historical part of DC. It was one of the busiest port towns along the Potomac. * Great waterfront for walking, jogging, romancing, to reflect, people watch, and to get away from the business of the city.The same applies if you go north of M Street in the residential Georgetown -- near Oak Hill Cemetery and Montrose Park. It seems so far removed from the city hustle and bustle. When you go north, it takes you back to the Victorian era of the rich and famous with the beautiful, colorful houses that is lined with hills. * I love admiring the Radio Drive of DC. It is fun to scan the shops and occasionally buy an item or two. I am perfectly fine with them having chain shops here. Some of the more pretentious ones I just pass over. * Baked and Wired is here. That is a bonus just in itself! There are tons of other reasons, but I guess you just have to go check it out yourself and see why! read more

Georgetown has a lot of great stuff, and a lot of overpriced junk. There's a lot of great history, but not a lot of places to park. By and large, the shops are big box things that you could find in the suburbs without having to drive and park in Georgetown. And the restaurants and clubs, belying the occasional gem, are usually overpriced and underwhelming. And everything here is expensive. The upside is in the canal, the river, the historic buildings, and so forth. I enjoy walking through it, but I wouldn't want to live here. read more

Georgetown is one of the nicest areas in DC. There are tons of stores to go shopping at and a lot of trendy restaurants/bars all along the main street. They also have a pretty decent nightlife - there are plenty of bars to go check out. They range from casual bars (you can go in wearing sneakers and sweatshirts) and the nicer, crazier clubs (you need to dress to impress). Parking can be a little bit of a hassle, especially if you are not good at street parking like me (asian woman driver!), but there are garages and parking lots in the area. Another great thing to check out in the area is the Waterfront at the edge of Georgetown. It's perfect for going on a first date and/or just sipping on some drinks in front of the water. You can sign up for boat tours as well which will take you for an hour or two around the Potomac. I believe that some of these boats also provide food and drinks as well. That's something I have yet to try, so I can't provide further details. But I've always wanted to check it out one of these days. read more

We loved adventuring around Georgetown. It was a nice sunny day, so we took the bus over and just explored. It was Sunday, so we strolled around the Georgetown Flea Market -- definitely worth a stop. Amazing architecture, some of the coolest houses/apartments ever, very quiet, and M Street in particular was super fun to people watch and check out the stores and restaurants -- there's something for everyone. I absolutely love Georgetown! It's a great city, with a lot of really cool architecture and scenery. The small row houses and the cobblestone streets make it feel like the hipster-town that it is, but that's beside the point. If you are looking for a place to shop or a place to grab a bite, this city has it all, but only if you are willing to pay a high price for it. The city is known for it's high end boutiques and overpriced food, but the experience that you encounter is second to none, at least in my case. This is because all of the people who live or shop in this upper-class neighborhood will make you feel completely underdressed (or poor), with their designer handbags, shoes, and shades. Pros: - amazing shopping and dining - gorgeous architecture - the Key Bridge (a great place to take a walk, view the river on one side and the D.C. skyline on the other) Cons: - traffic (this is a given seeing that the neighborhood is part of D.C., but the roads are narrow, so if you're driving, make sure that you're paying attention at all times unless you want to get honked at constantly) - parking (trying to find parking here is like trying to find a needle in a haystack; there's metered parking on the streets, but if you have no luck there, you can park in one of the overpriced garages or lots - expect to pay at least $15 or more) read more

Before i made my life altering move from NYC to the district, i was confused as to why anyone would want to live in DC so i viisted georgetown one weekend while evaluating my decision to move here. georgetown is everything glamorous that you can imagine, but in a 'fake' way. it's pretentious,artificial and filled withd-bag lawyers who survive on extreme billing rates to the federal government and yuppie kids whose sole existence appears to be wasting their parents trust fund dollars. georgetown has fine boutiques, fine dining, a few college bars, and some embassies and law firms along with expensive residential homes and a a little harbor with tour boats that offer rides on the potomac river. what stands out is a cupcake place that has lines of people as if crack cocaine is on the menu. Seriously people it;s a cupcake. dont block my weekend stroll through georgetown by occupying the sidewalk so you can eat a cupcake?? georgetown should be renamed george village of course :) For the record, I love my ocassional stroll from rosslyn over the key bridge and through georgetown. it is definitely very scenic and relaxing. Georgetown by itself is like other snobby rich towns i have been around like Palo Alto or Malibu or newport beach but the D-Bag element is more predominantly visible here. even though georgetown is the closest neighborhood to me from Arlington, i rarely hang out there at night. However its definitely the safest area in the DAV. read more

All I can say is that I'm in love with this place. Wish I lived there in the area, but I couldn't afford probably the electricity in that neighborhood..well maybe with room mates. LOL It's so my kind of lifestyle. I want to go back and walk around..see more..buy something and just chill. I love the homes in the area too. This weekend my family and I did the electric car tour of DC. It was 2 hours our guide Cortland was awesome. Not only did he know everything he had a humorous spin which kept my kids very entertained through out. Highly recommend even during Covid, car had no doors so plenty of fresh air and company was so kind to ask to push our time back so they could properly sanitize the car. Great experience!! read more

Georgetown reminds me of Princeton NJ, except it's near water. Lia. M said it best "The section of DC where old, white women feel safe enough to walk alone at night." There is a lot of high end shops and cafes, but would I honestly shop there, NO Is it easy to get to Georgetown on the metro? NO I have NEVER taken the circular bus to get to Georgetown. If I can't get there via Metro I'm probably not going. Although most of my friends have cars, so I have gone on thosee rare occasions. Then you have to pay for parking and who really wants to do that? Granted I haven't really given Georgetown a chance because it's so hard to get there via Metro...but really I feel like it hasn't given me a chance. I will say everyone should experience Halloween in Georgetown. Hundreds of people are dressed up in the craziest costumes so it's a great time to bar hop and to people watch. I also love the bar/club RHINO and please for the love of God avoid Georgetown cupcake...they aren't that great and it's all hype. You don't have to stand in that long line if you really want them, you can just call in your order and pick them up. read more

I do love walking around this beautiful neighborhood and wish, wish, wish I could live here! This is one of the original work/live/shop designs! Even though I can't afford them, I stay mostly on the main drag-M Street for all the cool shops. I take lots of photos so I can find similar items later on in my price range. They definitely cater to the Euro-Riche that visit! Heading off onto the side streets and it quickly degenerates into a bad euro-trash knock-off haven. There are decent places to eat, but unless it's a bar/grill then they change out fairly quickly and there isn't anything amazing food-wise. Going down into the canal areas is an experience and I would suggest it be done only during a busy day or with a very large group of ninja-friends. It would be more interesting to go into Georgetown with an historic map, so you'd know what the buildings would have been back in the day. I'll try that next time! read more

After spending several days exploring the monuments, memorials, and the White House, Georgetown was a great way to end my DC trip. The town is quaint with lots of little shops to roam in and out of and plenty of places to sit and enjoy a quite lunch. I've been coming to Georgetown since 1975 (yikes!), and have seen it transition from a area known for its nightlife packed with clubs, live music and a brick M Street...to an outdoor shopping mall full of high-end shops, restaurants and specialty stores. I miss the old Bayou and Crazy Horse with the Nighthawks or Cherry Smash jamming all night, but I also enjoy the new "cleaned up" GTown for renting a kayak, getting some great food or shopping with my wife once in a while. The big negative for me is PARKING! If you don't luck out and get a street spot, you will fall victim to the greatest criminal enterprise known to man...and that is a parking garage and the criminal rates charged (and permitted by the city) for the honor of visiting GTown...even for a couple of hours. For the energetic you can metro to Foggy Bottom and walk a few blocks, for everyone else expect to fork out $20-$40, depending how long you stay. read more

Let me preface this by saying that Georgetown is best in limited quantities. It is definitely uppity and snooty and representative of the rich and privileged lives that many in the District are able to lead. The worst of these rich and privileged are students at Georgetown whose parents are paying the big bill to allow their kids to live in a super expensive city; Georgetown students are scared to leave Georgetown and venture into the other neighborhoods of DC and they take preppy to a whole new level (popped collars and polo shirts with boat shoes and hideous pink plaid shorts). Georgetown is so snobby that there isn't even a Metro stop there because they don't want the "general public" (a.k.a. those who aren't rich enough to afford a $1 million townhouse) to have easy access to their safe haven. This is also represented by the fact that in a hugely diverse city with people of all different ethnic backgrounds Georgetown is predominately (I mean 99.9%) Caucasian. With that said: if you are visiting Georgetown for a couple of hours there are tons of great shops and wonderful restaurants that are definitely worth dealing with snobs for a short visit to the neighborhood. If you are in DC and you DIDN'T visit Georgetown it would actually be a shame. The neighborhood is gorgeous and quite quaint for being in a large city. Shopping reigns supreme (you just have to visit M Street) and there are a lot of designer shops and boutiques along with some stores you can't find in other neighborhoods in town. And the food is WONDERFUL! There are a lot of ethnic restaurants that offer delicious food in a very intimate and romantic setting (Georgetown would be perfect for date night). There are also plenty of "tendy" bars and nightclubs but unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you would be better off doing your bar hopping and clubbing a little bit east (which is a place the snobs never venture, so you are much more likely to enjoy yourself) in Adams Morgan or Dupont or if you are really brave head over to U Street where the rest of us poor folk hang. read more

Don't call it a come back, I've been here for years. I have no idea why I have not yelped it before now. I ¡LOVE! this place!!! Plenty of shops, restaurants, sights, services. All amidst human beings who think they are way better than you. How could you not love this place? It is like being in LA but right here in DC. I love how those cobblestone streets mar the heels of any footwear you have on. I love how you need a secret password to get into some doors. I love the super sacrosanct superficial slightly non existent elitism of this neighborhood. I just love it! Georgetown DC is as good as it gets! read more

I am a fan of Georgetown. If you like walking around and sightseeing, this is the place. However free parking is hard to fine, you are better off paying for parking at one of the many garges in Georgetown. Georgetown Cupcakes is ok. Too sweet for me. read more

Great education, horrible place to live. Such a remote area of DC when I thought that I would be living in the city. Its closest metro stop is in Virginia, and bus/taxi service from here is terrible. Very inconvenient to access the downtown area from here unless you drive a car. read more

I wish there was less traffic here! Ok. I know, that's not possible, but yes, except for the traffic, what's not to like about this place. I live about 30 miles away from Georgetown so I thought, how bad the drive could get. I had planned the parking garage, checked the street views on Google maps, but forgot to add the traffic "variable" in my plan. I will come back to that later. For now, let's talk about Georgetown. We parked almost right in front of the Waterfront Park. The area was pretty lively with families picnicking, kids playing in the fountains, joggers/cyclists etc. We then walked on the Capital Crescent Trail (paved) followed by Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath (not paved). I believe that area is one of the quietest areas of Georgetown. A tunnel connects the towpath trail to the other side of canal (on to Canal Road NW). Our next stop was Georgetown University. Since it was May, the school was almost empty. Its a beautiful campus worth walking to if you are in Georgetown area. The doors to the Gaston Hall were open so we went inside. What a beautiful building it is from inside as well. Absolutely gorgeous. We then took metrobus right outside the gates of Georgetown University and went back to the hustle and bustle of Georgetown. Unfortunately, that's all the time that we had. But as we walked, we saw the shops, the eateries, restaurants on the way and promised to ourselves that we will be back, but without car the next time. Yup, that's how bad the traffic was. I am going to go back but most likely in the evening, and use public commute and not drive to this place. DC circulator bus has a stop right in front of the Waterfront Park, so that will come in handy. I will be checking out the Harbor area too next time..probably take one of the water taxi/tours from there. NOTE : Please do a favor to yourself and do not choose Colonial Parking garage located at 1010 Wisconsin Ave if you have an SUV, or, of course, do it at your own risk. It took me about 10 minutes to get to the parking spot once I was inside the garage. The turns are extremely narrow, and you could very easily end up nicking your car. Colonial parking has some more "open" garages, and if I ever drive to Georgetown, I would be using some other garage, but not this one. read more

Ah, my favorite place in the District. This vibrant place makes you want to go again and again every weekend. Lots of awesome places to eat out here, though some can be pricey because of the location. Nevertheless, M St is always busy on the weekends with locals, tourists, families, people walking their pets, etc - always good to see people having a great time here. If you are visiting DC, do make it a point to spend a few hours here. read more
