    Carpet & Vacuum Expo

    (47 reviews)

All the reviews I read of carpeting (and flooring) stores pointed to Carpet & Vacuum Expo as the…read moreplace to start. It was easy to tell that the reviewers were genuinely impressed with the service they received. So I wandered into the bright and immaculate store (located in the Cabin John Shopping Center) and thus began my own wonderful carpeting experience. I was warmly welcomed by Steve Shaffer. He listened to my desires and we set up an in-home appointment to assess my carpeting needs. A few hours later Bruce Barboza arrived at my home and meticulously measured the areas to be carpeted. (Bruce's expertise was abundantly evident!) The next day, Steve contacted me and presented many options and arranged to have carpet samples shipped to me. Within a few days everything was agreed upon and an installation date was set up. On installation day I had the pleasure of meeting Roberto and Joshua. I could tell that their least favorite part of the installation was moving heavy furniture. However, anyone who has wrestled with a Tempur-Pedic mattress will understand the challenge. Roberto and Joshua immediately went to work and quickly removed the old carpeting and padding. I then got to observe their artistry as they expertly covered the many convoluted spaces my layout presented. Roberto deserves special recognition for beautifully binding the edges of the runners. I am completely thrilled by the service provided by Carpet & Vac Expo. Hopefully many others will enjoy these masters of carpeting craft.

Steve the owner is so nice and easy to work with, as well as his staff who are friendly and genuinely care about getting you the best carpet for your needs at a reasonable price. As a matter of fact, I shopped around many other local places and none of them could beat the price or the service needed. Don't waste your time like I did and run around comparing prices and carpets- I'll never do that again. Just go here. I'm very happy with the installation as well. They came at the time promised, installed it quickly and vacuumed it before they left. As I said, just go here for carpet.

Carpet Palace & Floors - Binding is sloppy

I saw Bethesda Carpet Palace recommended by several neighbors in a local Facebook group when…read moresomeone asked about stair runner installation. I needed a stair runner installed so I brought my family to the store on a rainy weekend day. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. My pre-K kid had a great time at the store, there are countless carpet samples to look at and touch! The amount of options to pick from is impressive. We left with a few samples, and it was easy to schedule the measurement. We have an old house with unusual stairs/posts, but Ali helped us figure out what made sense for the reveal and aligning it well. The quoted price for materials and installation was reasonable and transparent. It was easy to schedule installation and they did an excellent job. I can see why many other families recommended them in my local Facebook group, and now I'll be doing the same!

The owner came to measure and we agreed on a 2.5" reveal. When the team came to install, the owner did not take into account a post so the reveal needed to be increased to 3". The team on site cut the fabric and reattached the binding. It truly looked awful and so sloppy. You can see in the pics how the binding wasn't attached in places. The owner wouldn't agree to fix it, but had no problem coming back to remove the carpet. Warning- Take your business elsewhere!

I inspected the final product today and did not have a single change or complaint. In fact, I hired them to paint our whole home. You can trust their workmanship. The team members were professional, responsive to our concerns and delirvered to our expectations. No delays, no additional cost or changes, no surprises.

They were late 2 out of 3 days without notifying me, and the job felt rushed. Yusef promised me a $500 discount. Later, he denied ever making the offer, and the manager attempted to reduce it to $100. The manager also implied that only his word matters, using an example meant to justify why the original agreement shouldn't count. Customers shouldn't have to figure out which employees have "authority" -- if an employee makes a promise on behalf of the company, the company should honor it. Something I learned after the fact -- and wish I'd known before signing -- is that in many flooring companies, salespeople work on commission, sometimes 5-15% of the total sale. Managers may also receive a commission override. Installation crews are typically paid a set rate or per-square-foot amount, which means the company's actual cost is often much lower than the customer price. In these setups, discounts sometimes come out of the salesperson's commission, which could explain why I received pushback on the agreed $500. I'm not claiming to know this company's exact pay structure, but it's worth consumers being aware of how this industry often works so they can make fully informed decisions. I ultimately received the correct discount, but only after unnecessary back-and-forth, unprofessional behavior, and an attempt to undermine my honesty. I cannot recommend this company to anyone who values clear communication and integrity.
