First time here and they have a gluten friendly donut so I had to try it! Big line right after I got in and staff is very patient as people make decisions. Do you ever notice that a majority of the rave reviews if this place are from "local guides"? My daughter got an iced latte for $9.00. $1 extra for oat milk and another $1 for ice. When she asked why it was an extra dollar for ice the barista responded "I don't know." If you want a great donut and coffee experience try Dynamo Donut on 24th and York. One can never have enough merriment in one's life, can one? But what does merriment mean? Apparently, here it means pairing their housemade donuts with an alcohol selection that includes wine, champagne, and mimosas. I wasn't aware of their offering when I came in here quite by accident. I had no idea that it was a big deal when Mayor Lurie cut the ribbon for its opening early last year. I guess there were long lines for their donuts in the early days, but it was considerably calmer when I was here recently for what was a relatively upscale school lunch. I ordered the $12 bowl of Classic Tomato Soup made with roasted tomatoes and topped with basil, croutons, and a splooge of sour cream (Photo 8). Naturally to go with it, I had the $14 Grilled Cheese with aged gruyere and cheddar. They were melted together between slices of grilled sourdough toast accompanied by a side of mixed greens (Photo 10). Pretty straightforward but reasonably satisfying. I said to myself I should come back some time for a donut, and I did. They were huge, so I went with the slightly more modest $4.75 Churro Cruller (Photo 9). A bit crispy for me, but it was merry enough even without the booze. I was in the neighborhood with a few friends on Saturday afternoon and stopped by on a whim. It was pretty busy inside, but we managed to find a seat and the inside is so cute and chic, very new school café style. We weren't feeling super hungry but just stopped in to get some snacks so we tried the strawberry pistachio cronut which was doughy and good but a little too sweet for me as well as the donut holes which were very puffy and delicious. The hot chocolate had light fluffy marshmallows and was perfectly creamy. I loved the ambience inside although the treats are a little too sweet for my palate personally. I came here for a quick bite since I was in the area. I've heard good things about this place but mainly for their donuts. When I arrived in the afternoon, it looked like half of their selection of donuts was sold out :( I didn't end up getting any donuts since they didn't have the unique flavors left. I did order the grilled cheese sandwich though. It was pretty good for what it is, except I probably waited 20 minutes for this sandwich. I don't know what took so long because I was the only one that ordered something when I arrived, and everyone else sitting was all about to be done eating or already finished so it didn't seem like anyone else ordered any food. There was a line out the door on a Sunday. The line moved fast and they were out of some of the donuts at around 1pm. We had a strawberry champagne brioche, a chocolate cruller, fries with aioli sauce, and avocado tartine. We came for the donuts and they were too sweet, especially the strawberry champagne one. The chocolate cruller was good but nothing too special. Fries portion was huge and the avocado tartine was good. The space inside is small and need to wait for other customers to get up before you get a seat. Service was good and the food came out pretty fast. I'm surprised this place has such a low star average! We were actually headed elsewhere, but were entranced by the gourmet doughnut display and the chic interior and ate here instead. Really beautiful spot to meet up with friends. I came to George's Donuts and Merriment with a few friends, excited to finally try their highly talked about brioche donuts. The space itself is quite small but charming, with a fancy, regal décor that definitely leans Instagram worthy. The staff are friendly and seem to know the donuts well. If you're into café aesthetics, this place checks the box. We tried a few donuts: Key Lime Pie brioche, Crème Brûlée brioche, Strawberry-Champagne brioche & the Vanilla Bean Glazed Cruller. The Key Lime Pie and Crème Brûlée brioche donuts were the standouts as the fillings were flavorful and worked well with the donut base. The Strawberry-Champagne was okay, with a sugary exterior and a jam-like filling, but didn't quite stand out. As for the Vanilla Bean Glazed Cruller, I couldn't really taste the vanilla in the glaze, it leaned more toward just fried dough than anything special. Overall, I expected the brioche donuts to be fluffier, but they were a bit heavier than anticipated. The Four Barrel coffee they serve was a nice touch and did help balance out the sweetness of the donuts. Love this place for a quick lunch, coffee date, or just stopping by for donuts to-go! I've come here a couple times and have left delighted each visit. My first visit was with my sister and toddler. We were met with a warm welcome from the staff, and they gave us a lovely corner booth seat after a 5 min wait. The king fries were the standout, and the turkey club was also really yum. Walked in on a Sunday at 11am and was able to find seating right away. I've been wanting to come since they opened, but heard that the lines were pretty bad. I think the hype has died down enough where there isn't too much of a wait at peak brunch hours. If you want to just walk in and grab donuts to go, it's pretty quick. The service was very friendly and attentive, we asked a good number of questions and the staff were all very helpful. You order and pay first, grab a number, and seat yourself. Had a special birthday break for a coworker (at a previous company) and ordered some donuts from George's. The first thing I noticed was that it had this French theme in its design and it was very cool. It also smelled like a french pastry shop, which was also cool. I've been fortunate to have traveled to Paris twice. First, the donuts were sublime and were a hit at the office. We ordered a few dozen so this guy had three (hee-hee). These were gor-may donuts and I would have settled for Hostess. But we ordered the gor-may shizzle for our corworker. GD&M is probably the best donut shoppe I've tried in the City. I don't remember why I was in West Portal so early in the morning. But I remembered that I've been wanting to try a donut from George's. And I was fortunate that there was no line when I got there. I got the crème brûlée donut, which was a brioche donut with a crispy sugar shell topped with berries. The brioche itself was a little dry, but the cream helped. The sugar shell was thick, and it reminded me of that scene in Amelie. So I enjoyed taking cracks at it. And despite all that sugar, it wasn't too sweet. A few weeks later, I found myself in West Portal again with a friend. And we decided to have lunch there. I got their heirloom tomato and mozzarella sandwich, that came with a green goddess dressing inside focaccia. It was yummy! The tomatoes were juice and the green goddess dressing gave it an earthy flavor. And I enjoyed the crunch of the focaccia, which was panini-pressed. Had I known it would come with potato chips, I wouldn't have ordered the a side of the Fries for a King. They are huge! It can definitely feed a table of four. But I love potatoes, so it was a happy mistake. I ended up saving half a sandwich with the chips and just noshed on the fries. The house made garlic aioli dip was rich, so it truly was made for royalty. I think a dash of lemon would've given it the acid to balance the richness. But overall it was good. It's so beautiful inside. The minimalist, mid-century-esque decor is totally my style. I should ask them where they got their fixtures from. Was in the area and decided to stop by to try their donuts as I've heard so much about them. No line and quite a few items in the case to choose from. Had to give the creme brulee brioche a try and also picked up a chocolate cruller for the hubs. When I think of creme brulee, I think of the thin sugar coating that cracks when getting to the custard. Unfortunately, the sugar coating on this was too thick. It was hard so a little difficult to bite through and then it got stuck in my teeth. The brioche was soft and light, but, to me, the filling didn't really have much flavor. Hubs said the chocolate cruller was flaky and not too doughy. He liked the chocolate and stated it was a good donut, but nothing in particular stood out. read more

We were seated upon arrival and placed our order rather quickly. Unfortunately, a few of the pastry options were already sold out and we were there at around 1pm? Bummer. I ordered a coffee cake with a pumpkin latte with less sweetness and oat milk while my friend ordered a Halloween donut and pumpkin latte as well. I will say that everything here is on the MUCH sweeter side...I barely finished my coffee cake and had to take it to go. My latte had a pool of syrup lingering on the bottom of my cup. I'd say there's much room for improvement regarding the taste of their drinks and baked goods. Then again, I'm not surprised as their specialty seems to be donuts. This cute little donut store is located in West Portal. It's a pretty busy area so it's hard to find parking, and the store does not have their own lot. The donuts were pretty but their flavors have a lot of room for improvement. Some were way too sweet, some had a weird texture, and some had a weird aftertaste. Some of the doughnuts were too dense and kinda on the dry side. We were expecting to have gourmet doughnuts since that's they're known for. We stopped here for a birthday treat and were greeted with kindness and sweet treats. The donuts were delicious, though they were limited in supply at the time. While stopping at the restroom we noticed they were making more (they keep making them!) and asked if we could get one. They let us know how long so we sat and they hurried to get us a cream filled donut with strawberries. It was delicious! They had some time left on the crème brûlée donuts which was a bummer since we had to leave soon and it was a long drive. They hand decorated one for me and got it out quickly so I could have one! I came to George's after eating lunch down the street at Elena's, and loved it! There was no line on a Sunday afternoon, and there were people inside but wasn't over crowded. The cafe inside was beautiful and very relaxing, and my bf and I ended up sitting at the bar space. We ordered a rose latte, LoFi Spritz, and a chocolate crueller donut. I had high expectations for the donut from all the reviews on social media saying there are lines for these, but I honestly just thought it was ok. I tried the original glaze and the churro cruller, and both were seriously delicious. The original glazed donut was a standout for its texture alone. It was fluffy, pillowy, and impressively big. It leaned a bit on the sweeter side, but still totally enjoyable, especially if you love a classic, dessert-forward glazed donut. The churro cruller was just as amazing.
