Based on my previous experience I chose George Moving for my move. But it has been a very difficult and disappointing service. It has been close to a month after my move and I still don't have my final invoice. George has been very prompt in charging my credit card, which was $400 above the estimate, but has been of no help to get the final price and return the excess money or provide a final invoice. My review is based myself being experienced from working for another moving company. Unfortunately, what they agreed to before the move is not what ended up happening. The "extra" workers were stepping in each other's way and had no good game plan how to load the truck. They agreed to move a small upright piano as part of the move. However, none of the movers knew how to move it. Upon arrival to our new home, it was damaged badly. There were many false and misleading follow-ups on pricing so make sure you know how to be prepared. I would not use this company again because of misleading extra workers that were sent. They were not needed but charged us for it. I understand it is VERY HARD WORK and accidents will happen. The manager/owner should have made it right with offering some kind of compensation. I hired George moving to deliver furniture to a client. I paid 480.00 for local delivery. They cut thru packaging on 4 wicker chairs and cut thru the wicker. Each chair costing 800.00. The homeowners were present and witnessed the damage. It was noted on delivery paperwork. George moving offered to reimburse me 37.00. I now have to pay for these chairs out of pocket and will be out 2400.00 I filed a dispute with credit card company to try to recoup 480.00 and George moving lied to credit card company stating items were delivered with no damage. Again, the damage was noted on paperwork. George moving has had a terrible reputation within the design community. I should have listened to other designers that tried to warn me. Worst move ever!!! Do NOT use! I grew up in the military and this by far was the worst moving experience. We moved locally and nearly all of our furniture was damaged. They will not take responsibility for any of the damages or help get the pieces repaired. The first piece of furniture they moved was a dresser, and as they were bringing it downstairs drawers were flying out banging into the walls. A leg was broken off a $3000 Arhaus buffet. We have holes in our walls. I could go on and on about the damages. In addition, the staff is highly unprofessional and argumentative. I completely agree with Meg. Do not use this company ever! I can't believe they are still in business or allowed to use the North American Van Line name! 1. The estimator told us we would know the day they picked our stuff up when it would be delivered. Our stuff has been in their hands for 2 weeks and we still don't have a delivery date. It's late and who knows when it will arrive. 2. I should have taken a hint from the mover who showed up and said "A lot of people complain about not being able to contact our office." 3. They don't answer phone calls but manage to email you back 2 minutes later. When Diane called me the first time I explained to her that I was upset no one cared to contact me back for a week and I needed them to keep me in the loop with what the status was. After she broke a couple of deadlines of letting me know when I'd get my stuff because "The driver was misinformed" she wouldn't answer my phone calls and would only email me. I called three times today and got no answer. When my boyfriend called from a different number she answered. I'd say my calls are being screened! 4. I told several of their employees from day 1 that my stuff needed to arrive before my new job started so I could be there to let them in or we would go with another service. I start Monday and still don't have my stuff or know when they are coming. 5. They double charged my credit card. When I found the bill and told them, they said they had told them to do a reverse. (Okay so you knew they did it and didn't tell me?) 6. Their associate was away for a week bc of surgery so no one called me to update me at all. I had to call them and they of course didn't answer. It took sending a group email and calling them out to get a response. 7. I called corporate to get an update on where my stuff was. I was directed to Customer Service. After several attempts to get through to someone I got an answering machine. It suggested checking the status online. My status online is "Status not available" 8. They don't care if your stuff is late. They just said here if it's late call this number to try to file a claim. No remorse whatsoever. Sometimes all it takes is the decency to inform your customers what is going on. I moved from Pittsburgh to Salt Lake City, UT. George Moving & Storage only made the move stressful. An update about when I would receive my stuff would be nice. Instead I get emails saying "I will tell you Wednesday" "I will tell you Friday." I still don't know when my stuff is coming, if it will come at all. I have no idea where my stuff has been, how long it will take to get here or what condition it will be in when it arrives. Hope their driver is okay with waiting until I am off of work, otherwise I might not ever get it. Save yourself a headache and go with a different company!!! read more

In-state move, included a baby-grand piano. It was fine, no real issues at all. I made them coffee and gave them some cookies for energy, and in turn they took care of our stuff. The ladies on the phone are nice, and I would recommend this company to a friend. I would give negative stars if possible: The staff lie. Friday delivery scheduled between 12-4. We clear our schedules but get a call at 3 pm that there was a "road blockage" so delivery will be rescheduled. So we are told Monday 12-4 and clear our schedules again. We call at 2.30, told delivery will occur at 4. We call at 3:45, now told delivery at 5, and there are 2 stops ahead of us. They they call back at 4 pm and tell us delivery will not happen at all today. Reason is that truck broke down and had been towed back to their facility...that happened within 15 min? Staff kept hanging up when we asked what time delivery will occur on Tuesday, and then refused to pick up call. Finally got to speak to Rebecca George who acknowledged truck did not break down, but driver refused to complete deliveries. I honestly think they never planned to make the delivery on Monday anyway. We should have been first delivery after the mess up on Friday, so I think they were just full for Monday already and kept lying to appease us, but in the end wasted more of our time. Stay away from this unethical and immoral company who uses implausible lies to deny accountability. I will be reporting to better business bureau. read more

I hired this company because they were close to where I was moving. When I called to schedule the move they asked if I had expensive furniture, antiques, and I said no to the additional cost of insurance. It was a short distance move - what could happen?All young men, one older man who instructed the younger ones. They worked hard, no breaks, worked 6 hrs. My cherry hutch was scraped on top from assembly of sliding the top from front to back gouging the finish with rear metal tabs. I pointed that out to them. The older man said not to worry, they have a man who can fix it, to fill out this form for the investigator. I took pics, submitted the form. Over a month later, they decided at 60 cents per lb of the furniture weight that I get $70.00 to go away. They also gave me the name of the man who I can call at my expense to have my hutch repaired. There was also damage to a desk and a nightstand from veneer pulled off by the plastic wrap they use. I have 1 ding in my walk and muddy footprints from their shoes on new beige carpet that I didn't report and took care of myself. Would I use them again? I'm not sure. I know the men worked hard. If I was in the room to supervise the hutch I may have been able to prevent the damage. You expect professionalism - this is their job. I was disappointed at the lack of follow up and integrity to make this obvious damage right. The movers may genuinely thought their actions were covered. They weren't. Now I have to live with a constant reminder to purchase the insurance first. read more

My dishes were broken, speakers moldy, furniture cracked, white sitting chair filthy, and on top of it they were three weeks late in delivering my things. When using George Moving for my local move, I initially loved them. I loved Debbie their customer sevrvice liaison, the people at the office when dropping off the deposit, and the moving team that came to our house. Then they damaged a wall and had advice of waiting to see if the new owners of my home noticed, which is inappropriate and there is a time frame to report. I felt they thought I was unaware of the time frame. Then they charged us for extra time when the whole crew stopped and took a lunch break during the 5 hour minimum move. We were under the 5 hour minimum without the lunch break and we're told by the team we were over charged and would be given a rebate, instead we were charged extra for their lunch break. Carolynn at the office was very passive aggressive when discussing this issue and could care less. I will not use George moving ever again, and I actually wish I either booked with south hills movers or friendly mover, due to they came highly recommended. Two days before the move date I got a call telling me that they couldn't move me on our agreed upon date. I was floored!!! I called the Pittsburgh office and spoke with Rebecca George who was beyond rude!!! I told her about the call and she asked me if I'd "rather that they just didn't show up?" I told her I felt that canceling an agreement 2 days prior to its execution was unprofessional. Have had a similar experience to those who have reviewed this company before. It is currently 2 weeks since my items were picked up, and no one can tell me when they will be delivered. The only contact I have had with them is me reaching out to them - no updates from them unless I track them down. They just don't seem to care that their service is incredibly poor. And this is before I've even received anything - praying that my things come in one piece. I ignored the poor reviews because I was time constrained, but I implore anyone who is moving not to use this company. I would certainly never use them again. read more

Don't recommend. Cost us literally $1,800 to move across town in Pittsburgh... just 5.1 miles. Yes, we had steps to deal with, but we planned for that by hiring a 4th mover. 4 guys, 2 were full time, the other 2 called off evidently. So that means we were sent 2 temps who told us they had never done moving before. In the end, most everything was fine. Damage was negligible, only 1 desk dropped, but the amount of time was insane... 9 hours. We had even gotten rid of half of our furniture prior... no dressers, couch, entertainment center or tv. Our stuff was packed, labeled, and neatly stacked for them prior to arrival. Lots of standing around and BSing. The company did not respond directly to my complaints, only wanted money to cover their overtime... extra $310. Will never call them again.... but 2 stars because they did what they said they would. I should have looked around at other companies. This wasnt our first rodeo... we've moved regionally about 15 times in the last 20 years. read more

I had a Horrible experience with is company. First, I would like to say that I have moved several times with other companys and never had issues with damage. This company destroyed ALOT of my furniture. Huge gouges, scratches, torn speaker, springs sticking out of couch cushion. That's just naming few! I actually had to write a report listing all the damage with pictures. Obviously the damage was caused due to not protecting the furniture which was part of the contract. Several door jambs we're gouged as well, to match the scratches in our bedroom furniture sets, at the house we are selling. Again, no cardboard protection was used which should have been part of the contract. I even confronted the young men during the move and said look what you are doing to my furniture and to please slow down, take your time & pay attention. I even called the salesperson they sent out and she felt bad, but she said there is nothing I could do. I also called the main office as well, with no help. Very poor management. They do not want to deal with the problem. I have tried countless times to settle with this company. All I want is for them to pay the repair bill for what they destroyed, due to breaking contract and not protecting my furniture. They simply passed me off to the claims department. This is an ongoing process that seems to be never ending. This nightmare is still not over! Very disappointed with this company. I do not recommend this company! read more

I am really surprised by the bad reviews and at what happened to others. I used George a year later again to move from Pittsburgh to Arizona (the earlier move was my partner's). Everything went seamless and on time, I trusted the company enough to actually leave the country when the move happened (my roommate coordinated the pickup and my partner the delivery), and there was absolutely no problems. We even got a refund as the estimate was higher than the load ended up being. I recommend completely. read more

We used George Moving and Storage for an international move from Pittsburgh to Canada, and it included storage. We chose them because online reviews were very good. We have moved numerous times. The service they provided was horrible. Nothing I have ever experienced even compares. Every step of the way was filled with issues. -They screwed up the loading date -They screwed up the delivery date (both issues required us to change pre-booked travel to accommodate their mistake) Never would we get straight and consistent answers about things (timelines, delivery window, billing process, amount owing). They gave us all kinds of incorrect information about the process to cross the border and what we needed to do. The list could go on forever. It was almost comical - EVERY step had issues. They piled some of the heaviest pieces on top of boxes. Mattresses were NOT put in boxes and destroyed. Many items were not properly wrapped and were stained significantly from being dragged around. When we get to compensation and our claim, basically nothing. Only once in my life have I submitted a negative review about a company online. I would submit 50 negative reviews against George if I could. If you want your stuff to be treated like garbage, this is the team you should hire. read more

This message was posted by me on Facebook for North American as no one at the Customer Service Department called me back. I have still heard nothing from The Brand after 10 days. Appear to have the same low standards as George Moving. North American has now blocked me from Facebook after I requested the name of the management representative that would be contacting me. FB POSTING TO NORTM AMERICAN -This was our 15th move in 8 states. From Ohio to Connecticut, to Massachusetts, to Florida, back to Massachusetts, to California, back to Massachusetts, to Pennsylvania, to Ohio. George's was by far the worst experience, not only with the lack of staff, things happen. Rather, it was the accusatory and demeaning attitude of the President for which I hold such umbrage. We know what to expect in a move and prepare in advance to eliminate surprises, injury or damage.This was not our first rodeo. The President of George's actually told me the reason she couldn't get adequate staffing at the unloading was because "your wife was impossible to work with". Never in our previous moves have we had any problem with staffing. After one hour of preparing walls, floors, stairs, bannisters to prevent damage or injury, one unpacker who appeared to be a local Ohio supervisor with University Moving walked off the job. As he had been given a ride by a fellow packer, the second packer was forced to leave also. The Driver was running the show. No us. That is his job and he did it well. When the driver called his dispatcher from Pittsburgh, they had no answer to the labor shortage. I spoke to the President of George's Moving in Pittsburgh and she said she couldn't get additional staffing due to my wife. Yes, the President of company that represents Your Brand blamed my wife. Apparently, she was told third-hand there were two hours of prep demanded by us. The fact is, the local University employees walked off the job after one hour. I was here she was not. The driver was here, she was not. I was charged $11,000 for this move which is being paid by me not a company. It appears the standards of service at George's and North American thru association, are determined by the unloaders and not the needs of the customer. . Angie's List and other Social Media are my next step.It's generally not a good idea to insult customers, who being recently retired, have all the time at my disposal to keep the saga of "George and The Dragon" alive for quite some time. Awful experience! I should have hired the neighborhood kid down the block. At least they would not have broken three pieces of furniture! The inexperienced movers picked up my antique dresser by the leg and broke it off! DUH! And, then the company agreed to pay me 60 cents a pound to replace it....which equal $66. I can't even buy a dresser at a garage sale for that much. They got lost enroute from my old house to the new house and it took them twice as long to move us as they originally quoted. They didn't even have a dalley to move large appliances. POOR POOR POOR in every way! Don't use them. read more

An absolute joke of a company.....We contacted North American Van Lines for our move from Pittsburgh to Texas. They subcontracted to George. The packers consisted of two women (no problem), one of whom was 30 weeks pregnant (again, no problem) and left every 30 minutes to go smoke (starting to be a problem). I'm willing to look the other way, fine. My family and I fly to Texas and 2 weeks from when they put our stuff on a truck (and WAY past the promised delivery window), we are still sitting on plastic lawn furniture in our house (now a BIG problem). When we call both George and North American Van Lines, they direct us to the other and say "I don't know what's going on with your shipment." Now we are upset. Finally, a customer service agent at North American levels with us and says that George doesn't have the capacity to haul your stuff to Texas and North American should NEVER have used them. Interesting coming from the company we hired. Anyway, we are on week 3 of our move, my son cries that he wants to move back to Pittsburgh (because he at least had a bed there) and we are still fighting with them to find a driver to move our stuff. I'm looking into flights to go pick my stuff up myself and drive it to Texas. PLEASE AVOID GEORGE MOVING AND STORAGE and NORTH AMERICAN VAN LINES at ALL COSTS. This is our third time with this company. They used to be great. We had less stuff this move than the last and they charged us a ton more money. They still have not refunded the extra ten percent they owe us. They sent three old guys. The only nice one got sick. The other two were rude and grouchy. The third man was useless, he did practically nothing. We tipped them but the only reason is because we felt so sorry for the man who got sick. They were really rough with our boxes and stuff. We had a pretty light load and they got it done in three hours but we had to pay over 800 dollars! The person who emailed me about the refund doesn't seem to give a hoot on whether we get it or not. If I wanted another bad moving experience I could've used our first moving company and saved a few hundred. Better yet, uhaul and two men would've been better. If you use this company, make sure you pack your stuff really, really well. They throw it around like they don't care at all. They bark at you if you're in their way, or if you try to move a box labeled FRAGILE out of the way, they yell at you. They were using the box I packed our computer in to drop the other boxes on. When I moved it so they would quit doing that, the one guy yelled at me. Seriously, I didn't pay 800 dollars to have my stuff tossed around and to be treated rudely. I could get that kind of service a lot cheaper. Luckily, I'm an experienced packer so my stuff survived and I had my son in law move my box of fragile collectibles, thank God for him, I'd have cried had I seen George movers throwing that box around. And I did rescue my husband's computer even though the guy yelled at me. I hope the 57 year old who got sick is okay, and to the other two jerks, get a new job if you hate this one so much! Really bad experience with them. Their customer service has plummeted since 2012. I truly hope I don't have to move again, if I do, I won't use this company again. I can't stress enough how rude two of the crew were. Very disappointed. My husband informed me that the third man stayed in the van listening to the radio while waiting for the other two to bring stuff down.
