My mom recently passed at Gentiva in Palm Desert. Our nurse was kind, loving, caring, attentive, patient and so many other things words don't express well enough. She was simply an angel during the 3 days my mom was passing away. I just wanted to send a note to say that you have an absolutely incredible employee and I feel so lucky to have been blessed with her kindness. Gentiva overall was a wonderful experience during such a difficult time. Thank you for all that you are doing to take care of your employees so they are happy and for all of the hard work that everyone does from the cleaning people to the very kind Dr. It could not have been any better of an experience. read more

Extremely frustrating and disappointing experience Our family has spent nearly five months trying to get a physician certification completed for an EDD Paid Family Leave claim after our father passed away on April 24, 2026. From the beginning, we followed the instructions we were given. We were initially told that the doctor did not use the online system, so we brought the physical paperwork to the doctor. We later learned from EDD that the physician's signature was missing. EDD then instructed us to have the doctor complete the certification online. EDD told us that the doctor submitted it as a Disability claim instead of a Paid Family Leave claim and entered 8 hours of care, even though our father required 24-hour care. EDD required us to go through the process again and sent new paperwork, including forms that needed to be completed by the doctor. We personally delivered the paperwork to Gentiva and then spent weeks calling and following up. We were repeatedly told someone would call us back. No one did. We eventually had to go to the Gentiva office in person just to get updates. After approximately three weeks of waiting for paperwork we had personally delivered, we were ultimately told that the doctor "will not fill out any more paperwork." Nearly five months have now passed since our father's death, and our EDD claim still cannot move forward because the physician certification has not been properly completed. We have documented our calls, paperwork, and attempts to resolve this issue. We have also filed a formal complaint with Gentiva's Compliance Department. This is no longer about the EDD payment. It is about the principle of the matter and the lack of communication, follow-through, and accountability. During an already difficult time following the loss of our father, we expected basic professionalism and communication. Instead, our family was left chasing paperwork and answers for months. Terrible. I called at 6:15. My mother had fallen the night before. I asked for someone to please call me back to send a nurse. I did not want them sending Elisa. I was told by three separate nurses that somebody would call me back. They never did. I called the ambulance at 911. I continued to call the entire morning and spoke to Jessijka. She said she would have the vice president call me back that never happened. I spoke to Sandra and she told me she would have people call me back. I said I didn't believe her because I had been trying to call since 615 that morning. She assured me somebody would call me back and they never did. I wound up changing Hospice companies and people that I called and other companies told me that Gentiva used to be a very good Hospice, but they were terrible. Some of the nurses had previously worked there and don't any longer. The nurses such as Richard, Rosebud, Linda and Erik are the very best that they have. But if you can't get them to come out, that is a problem. Leaving a Hospice patient in the lurch, waiting after a fall is terribly negligent. Being told that somebody will call you back and never getting a return phone call is the most unprofessional, uncaring, unkind, and illegal thing. I can imagine that would happen to someone on Hospice. I wouldn't let them take care of my dog. If you're considering this Hospice company, reconsider, and find another what once was is no longer nasty Office staff and equipped company to handle overall Hospice and Care. It's an absolute no for me. Not only this, but nancy the Case Manager suggested numerous times that I find another Hospice company. Absolutely heartbreaking. I sent these Nurses home or away from my house with tinctures drink drinks, food, and all kinds of goodies. It really hurt my feelings and shocked me when Elisa told me that nurses were uncomfortable in my home. I texted everyone of the nurses and they said they did not know what she was talking about to lie or to say things that are untrue unnecessarily and just want to argue with clients terrible Hospice company just say no there's too many that are good. I was in the hospital for 3 months fighting pneumonia while in stage 4 COPD. I was put on Hospice when I was discharged from the hospital. The doctors weren't very optimistic that I'd live. The great staff at Gentiva took great care of me and 8 months later I was discharged from Hospice. Gentiva provided me with an RN, a CNA, a doctor, a Social Worker, and a Chaplin. These people are a team. Unless you want to make a change, you have the same caregivers. Make sure you ask questions before you decide. Hospice providers all offer different levels of care. read more

These people we SOOO helpful, caring and understanding. They took care of my dad in his final days at his home. They came by as scheduled and additionally when needed. Each nurse was caring and willing to help in any way. When my dad passed they called the funeral home and arranged for everything from there. They still call to see how I'm doing from time to time. Great nursing and care. Chaplin Vincent is passionate about not only the patient but made sure the family was spiritually stable. Communication between management, doctor and nursing was sub par at best. Doctor's orders and prescriptions were slow. Phone operators people skills were poor. On call nursing was a 2 on a 10 scale. The night my mother passed her and I sat together for 2 hours before someone showed up to pronounce her death. Funeral home arrived 20 minutes after notification. No excuses Gentiva. Shame on you. My spouse had to go on home hospice, and we use gentiva. Didn't know what to expect at the beginning. But I found the whole process and the employees and the nursing staff at gentiva, to be very efficient and compassionate. They help me walk through all the stages of this horrific disease that my spouse had and what to expect next. I thought the communication went very well between myself and all the staff at gentiva. Our prescriptions were filled right away sometimes the very same day. And the communication between the staff and the nursing was remarkable. They answered all my questions and got right back to me when I had a question. I could have called anyone from the social worker to the nursing staff. And even Cynthia the new inpatient coordinator, was so helpful to us.and if they didn't have the answer,they would get back to me with the answer from the right person. I'm so grateful that we had chosen gentiva, to take care of the medical needs of my spouse. read more

The communication in my opinion was very bad. We were very unfamiliar with this type of care for my mother and trying to get a call back from social worker was frustrating. If I could rate this hospice negative 5 stars I would but the worst rating is 1 star. If you want your loved one to receive the absolute worst end of life quality of care sign up with Gentiva Hospice. The lack of professionalism, care, compassion and empathy is bewildering. They blatantly refused to come assess my father after a fall stating to just give him a pain pill from comfort meds even after stating he had a change in condition. I sent him to the hospital via 911 and had him discharged immediately. He passed away later that day. Please please at any cost necessary choose a different hospice than this one so you don't have to experience this with your loved one. Gentiva hospice doesn't deserve to practice hospice care and should lose their license. read more

I am pleased to say that Gentiva has such Caring staff. From the office staff, to their social workers and nurses.There have been some wonderful nurses that took excellent care of my mother, during her sickness. Nurses like Ms Debbie, Ms Belinda, and others. Some names I can't think of at the moment. But all of them were amazing. Miss Stone with her prayers and words of inspiration that kept us encouraged. The love and care that they all gave mom was absolutely wonderful. Anytime mom needed them, day or night all we had to do was call and someone would be ready to help her. A special mention to Courtney, who took such awesome care of my mother for almost 3 years that she was in hospice. Everyone felt like family. We could feel the love and support that they gave to my mother and our family. Miss Crystal would make sure Mom had everything she needed. She was more than just a social worker. She helped us tremendously with the comforting words of God that we needed to hear when things looked bleak. Always keeping it real, but also letting us know it was in God's hands. We will be forever grateful to Gentiva and the lovely staff, for all they did for our beloved mother. read more

The night nurse was really awesome, however this is a very disorganized company. Mom still doesn't have basic supplies that real hospice companies supply. Stanette called today and said she is taking care of everything and suggested the volunteer program. read more

The care and comfort from this facility was AWFUL! My sister in law was put in their care at home, they set her up and left with out counseling or trying her 29year old daughter on how to change her, counsel he on end of life stages, where to get grief support etc .. no compassion whatsoever. The nurse even got mad and said you can't just call anytime. What?! This is 24/7 service! They wouldn't talk to my husband( the patients brother) to ease the daughter due to get having to work and needed her uncle help. Just awful ... try Reliance they're wonderful! read more

Horrible .. the hospital sent someone to my Father room at the Hosptial and we spoke to a Jason. At first he came in like he cared about our situation and started telling me how my dad will be cared for at home since they couldn't find a bed in any nursing facility. He explain that they can provide 4 hours a day care and that his insurance can help pay for another maybe 4 hrs and that they can find a volunteer to help. He said this would only be temp till something opens up. Then he tells me , well they want to discharge your father so we have to get the ball moving. But the truth is the hospital wasn't going to let him go home right away but he rushed it.. made them take him off heavy flow oxygen to a 5lit tank.. witch guess what didn't work once he got home.. machine would go off and then my father felt sick agaib so he went back to the emergency.. because he shouldn't have left in the first place. (Hosptial has much fault in this like Jason does) this Guy didn't know shit!! Just trying to recrut!! And he then tells me I need to call a list of nursing places to find a spot for him. I looked at him like: isn't this your job? On and then he tells me that a case worker will call me to get everything organize, No one ever called, they just left my father home alone. They didn't even changed him or nothing. I did call the after hours number and spoke to someone who was very kind and explain everything and she even was upset in how this guy LIED to us. I will no longer be with this company.. Don't trust these reps that come to u with lies!!! I have a client who used Kindred Hospice recently & we are very happy with their services. We are especially happy with their Nurse Darren who is amazing, he was patient, caring, & attentive. The hospice facility is located at the back of Manor Care on Country Club. I admitted my father to this facility because it was the only hospice facility in the desert. If I could, I would give this facility, -5 due it it's overall condition, and I would give the nursing staff -5 due to their lack of communication, and the comments that were made to me. If at all possible, please check this place over BEFORE you take your loved on here to die. The place is awful. read more

Please choose another hospice. My family has had to use hospice twice before and the experience was wonderful. This hospice care is horrible and stressful. They do not have enough staff to be there for you. I would never recommend Gentiva to anyone. Please find other hospice care for your loved one. My Mother is 88 yrs old and has Alzheimer's. I interviewed many hospice organizations before selecting Gentiva in San Diego. From the first contact, the staff has been amazing. The organization has bent over backwards to to make sure that my Mother is getting top medical care and support. I specifically asked to meet the nurse before signing any papers, which was not possible with some of the other hospice companies. Carolyn has 14 years of hospice experience and she has followed through on her promise to take care of my Mother as if she were her own. She checks my Mother more than promised and returns calls very quickly. The volunteer coordinator brought us a dream come true visitor to spend time with my Mother, and the social worker has been compassionate and involved. Even Eileen, the receptionist, treats us like family. When my Mother started on hospice, she was biting and screaming when we tried to bathe her or change her brief. Abraham, our care taker, has been able to make a connection with Mother and she is no longer biting and screaming. I had specific requests for my Mother's care and the care taker has been able to handle them all, including blow drying and styling her hair. My only difficulty with Gentiva is that they do not use email for communication. However, they are working on getting an exception for our family since we travel often. I have every confidence, based on their track record so far, that they will solve this issue. I highly recommend Gentiva in San Diego. read more

My husband was admitted to Gentiva last October. It was the greatest experience anyone could encounter even though it had to do with death. If ever you are in that situation, you would want people like this around you and your loved one. They took such great care of my husband I cannot begin to tell you...they made him comfortable and kept him immaculately clean! He was so clean and groomed when he passed I could not believe it. I would give this operation 0 stars or even a -5 stars if possible. We have had 2 incompetent nurses while my mother wastes away in a hospital bed on hospice at home. One good nurse we had retired . Now they've let one of these incompetent nurses deem that she is not fit for hospice even though she's down to 80 pounds, on constsnt oxygen, sleeps 20+ hours a day, and has not put her feet on the ground for 12 months... bed-ridden. It's partially because they're ignorant to what my mom is dying from and they're are too busy and overworked and figured they could could cut her loose even though a doctor has not seen her for the last 2 months . I am writing this review in hopes that someone else won't have the heart breaking experience that I and my family had with this hospice. My sister needed hospice care and not knowing one from another we signed up with Gentiva. The hospice specialist was kind and helpful but after that only one other person was truly there for my sister or our family - the chaplain. The nurse was always rude on the phone. When the supervisor was contacted the same insensitive attitude was experienced. The worst part came when my sister was very close to death. Again the nurse did not come, we got no answers, no one in the family received a call from anyone in hospice even after she had passed. I hope to spare others this very sad experience. read more

Odyssey House the inpatient unit at Manor Care is the dire location. If you get admitted in this place you will never get out alive!!! They will over medicate you until you will not survive. There is a nurse named JeNelle, she is incompetent, unprofessional, uncaring and pushes her religion to all the patients and families she takes care of. She needs to be fired from Hospice. She does not follow the Doctor's orders!!! read more

I'm surprised that others had a difficult experience with Gentiva. I thought they were wonderful. Our Case Manager, Kelli was wonderful, compassionate and even came to visit my father in-law on her day off. They walked us through every step and made an extremely difficult time much easier. Our Social Worker Neil was very responsive, helped us with tough questions and attentive. I do agree that they are having some staffing challenges, but they work really hard to overcome these struggles. I think they are wonderful and the staff we worked with made all the difference to helping a loved one pass on very peacefully. read more
