Jessica helped me after my knee replacement surgery, and was absolutely lovely. She helped me shower and wash my hair, cleaned some vegetables for dinner, did some laundry, etc. She was cheerful and friendly but knew when to not talk so I didn't feel like I had to entertain her. My brother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and he moved to the area about 4 years ago. He needed extra support services at the senior community where he was living. I had read about Home Instead and contacted them to get more information. Since the first day my brother started receiving services through HI, he has been pleased with his caregivers. His newest caregiver, Brandon, visits my brother weekly for a haircut and shave. Brandon is compassionate, caring and very professional. He is not just there to do a service, he is a companion for that time. Talking with my brother, checking in with him - these are things that my brother needs and wants in a caregiver. Every week after Brandon leaves, my brother calls me to tell me what a great guy Brandon is. This has provided a huge relief for me to know that he is well taken care of and respected with dignity. ORIGINAL REVIEW This review has been on hold for about two weeks. I kept hoping someone at the Home Instead office would step up and give me a reason to give 5 stars, or even 3. We met with Christina from HI at our home on Monday 12/18 to go over our care needs and what HI could provide. We felt the meeting was thorough and Christina was very professional and helpful, so we paid a $500 deposit for care to start nine days later, on Wednesday 12/27. Christina shared that someone from the office would reach out by Wednesday 12/20 with details on the caregiver. By Friday 12/22 no one had called, so I called them. The agent told me "We're working on it" and that Christina would call me back. But again, no call.   Finally, in the afternoon of Tuesday 12/26, the day before care was to start, I got a call from the office to "get answers to a few questions" so that they could assign an appropriate caregiver. It was very disconcerting that a caregiver was not already arranged, and that the questions they asked were the same ones Christina asked more than a week before. About an hour later the office called again with the name and details of the caregiver. They also said the office would call the next afternoon to confirm that the caregiver was a good fit and help with any changes we might need. The caregiver arrived on time Wednesday morning and reassured us that she was very experienced with dementia patients. What?? We'd already explained the situation to HI twice - my mom is recovering from abdominal surgery but sharp as a tack. How did they select this caregiver, and what had they told her? It's been more than a week since then and STILL no call from the office to see how things are going with the caregiver. I want to stress that the caregiver has been WONDERFUL; she is the ONLY reason this review is higher than 0 stars. Thankfully my mom is recovering well, to the point where we no longer need the caregiver's services. I'm sad to part ways with her, but I'm glad we're no longer working with HI. read more

She listened so carefully to my mom's story and helped me sort out options -- in a way that was so patient, knowledgeable, clear and compassionate. The staff was always available to answer my questions or address my concerns. They took the time to ask if a certain resolution was acceptable to us before just making a change and telling us after the fact. We used this service for the care of my grandparents who have Alzheimers/Dementia & we have had nothing but problems. Their commercials on tv make their services look so wonderful & seamless, however, they are not. From billing issues, to scheduling issues, to issues providing them the care they needed, I would not recommend their services. The caregiver they sent out was the perfect match for my grandmothers needs. I truly believe that with the help of Home Instead, my grandmother was able to make a full recovery. Nathan at first contact is thorough, LISTENS, and sets up with the best caregiver match. Then, the caregivers are just amazing. I've seen so many that sit and read their books for school while giving zero thought for the patient. Palm Desert H Instead caregivers (the ones we had) are remarkable.
