Y'all - I feel so so cheated with my choice here :-( I ordered the Tonkotsu soup - expecting that rich pork broth that for my palate captures the umami taste of Japanese food so perfectly and instead of that, what is plopped in front of me tastes more like a Malaysian curry noodle soup with pork pieces that tasted bitter and stale and smelt like week old socks, rather then the succulent pork belly fatty flavor notes that I have instead encountered in previous Tonkotsu soup dishes. So I now am going on a rant here but seriously, why call it a Tonkotsu soup when what you are serving is not that!! I trully feel like what I got was instead a Malaysian curry noodle soup and so why not call it that instead? I feel sad if Memphis locals seriously think this is a Tonkotsu soup cause they are in for a shock surprise if they actually taste Tonkotsu soup in Japan. And I think if the owner of this place is okay serving customers with this slight of hand about the name of this dish and not serving something that is even semi-authentic, what else is being faked, and do I really want to ever come back and order from here ever again? So not only did my "Tonkotsu ahem Malaysian curry soup" suck but my Matcha iced tea was way too matcha for me and not enough sweet plus when I got home, it absolutely gave me a case of the runs (not TMI, I hope?) Yeah, totally not getting anything from here again. Note: #127 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016

Good ramen and bao servings. A little pricey but location inside Whole Foods store can make your errands easy right after a snack or dinner.

This place caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting of all places Mississippi to be a destination…read morefor Ramen. My confirmation bias says the Memphis area is a barren of good food. Well...I guess I was proven wrong. So I dropped my trailer off at Amazon MEM1, input the coordinates onto my Tractor GPS, and my Garmin 800 rejected the request...."Commercial Truck Restrictions All the way." And what did I do? I said f*ckit. I'm taking that risk. Probably the best Risk Reward experience I've had in ages. Every inch of my route towards this Ramen Pilgrimage was plagued by Traffic Signs reading, "No Semi-Trucks $1000.00 fine." And I just want to thank law enforcement between Memphis & South Haven for not busting me for craving a rich bowl of Tonkotsu delight. So what did I discover here? It was like walking into an enchanted Studio Ghibli scene. The hanging charms, the lush greenery, and lighting complimenting the earth tones, the holy sh*t they have PopCorn Chicken & Milk Tea here @@! Felt like I'm back in Taiwan with this fusion of Japanese & Taiwanese Food Culture. There wasn't even a college town nearby and this added more to my culture shock--- of all places... Mississippi. If you guys are still with me at this point, the Kyuramen x TBar in Southhaven wasn't the first location recommended to me by Yelp; I was actually planning on visiting the location in Santa Anita Mall in Arcadia California, BUT like Rayasianboy likes to quote on his live streams, "Goddid." The planets align, they sent me and my rig to South Haven. Alright not gonna ramble anymore, let me get to the verdict: Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Food: 10/10 For a franchise, this place has QA down to the tee. Over the years I've for the majority of the time whenever I'm out of state, would patronize Jinya Ramen--been to their Denver Union Station locations, Chandler Arizona, Salt Lake City, one of the earliest times was in Vegas, and basically their brand set the tone for what a Franchise ramen could be. And yes, I could taste the lengthy hours here at Kyuramen that were put in to slow cook the richness out of the pork bones; the portions were measured just right so you can savor the soup, the noodles **al dente**, the egg silky custard like, the Chasu **melt in your mouth** and not feel overwhelmed with the entire ensemble. The karaage chicken/ Taiwanese pop-corn chicken was exploding with moisture, it had the right characteristics of popcorn chicken, crispy light with tapioca starch layered on the outside, marinated in 5 spices, and fried to perfection with the right tenderness. The tea was excellent, and the Yakitori platter---- executed surprisingly well. And when you put together the entire experience....Shin-Sen-Gumi Alhambra California needs to pick up some slack because this little joint in the middle of nowhere puts some California Izakayas to shame. So yes, I'd recommend anyone across the state of Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama, all the Japanese execs at Toyota Plant, Nissan Plant and Yuki Kawamura to come and make their pilgrimage....oh wait Yuki signed with the Chicago Bulls, nvm, but yes everyone besides Yuki. これで終わります Kore de owarimasu じゃあね Jaa ne 改天再會!

We've even gotten delivery before and it was ok. But today the food was super cold. The hibachi shrimp was so overcooked that it was practically burnt. See picture. I know that the delivery person picked it up as soon as it was ready because I can see the pickup in the app. So it's the restaurant's fault for not maintaining the temperature. I don't understand how the kitchen can allow burnt shrimp to go out when you can can clearly see it. Also the portion of shrimp was very skimpy. Not sure what's going on with the restaurant tonight but it seems like they just don't care about the quality of the takeout or delivery food. If they don't want that source of business then they just need to get off of the delivery apps.

I have been meaning to visit this place for a while, and it finally happened!!…read more As always, my review is based on my experience. Went here for a date night. I had to add my name to their waiting list through the iPad in the front desk. Real quick and simple. We were seated within 10 minutes. The service is very different than usual. They explained us that once you look at the menu and are ready to ordered to buzz on the right hand corner and a server would come and take your order. The appetizers and ramen were very delicious. The broth had a lot of flavor. The place is very uniquely decorated. Just like a bee hive. Honeycomb nooks with tables and not comfy seats though. But I liked the ambiance and decorations! I highly recommend!!

Exceptional customer service but the flavor of food left much to be desired…read more My husband and I came in today on my birthday and ordered a couple of Tokyo Tonkotsu Shoyu bowls along with the deep fried gyoza dumplings as an appetizer. The gyoza dumplings were absolutely phenomenal. The sauce on top was delicious. They were perfectly crisp and overall the flavor will bring us back! The ramen bowls, whilst both were ordered with black garlic, one arrived with black and one arrived with white garlic broth (you can tell the difference by the flavor and the color of the broths in one of my uploaded pictures) The dark garlic bowl was by far better than the white garlic bowl. The white garlic broth was very fatty (there was a separated layer of oil on top) and was very bland in flavor. This in conjunction with the fact that there was absolutely no sort of sodium available whether through a sauce form or in the form of a salt shaker or something on the table, made a majority of the bowl inedible for me personally. The chashu pork was very good, the egg was nothing special, the other additions to the bowl didn't do much to aid it. At the end, I did try my husbands broth and it was a lot better than mine was and would've changed a lot of my feedback about my bowl. We also ordered the passion fruit drink from Tbaar and it was absolutely AMAZING. I will absolutely be back to grab this drink over and over again. The ambiance inside was great. We loved how they have the entire place set up, they're very fast to come to help when you press the button. You are otherwise not bothered at all. There's a ton of seating options. It looks really cool in there and the little booths have a curtain separator so it feels really private, which is nice. We will be back, we will probably just bring some salt with us next time.

While I love trying…read morenew foods, I draw the line at cooking it myself at a "table grill", so he recommended this place. We went for lunch, let him guide the way, and ate everything family style (they serve individual platters, but he wanted us to have the full Korean experience and be able to sample many things too!) Everything was delicious. The portions were big, food was seasoned well, and our server was very attentive - keeping us informed of the slight kitchen delay due to a large party ahead of us. After lunch, we popped over to the Asiana market for Korean ice cream bars, which were also delicious! (Apologies in advance for the low quality photos - I had to snap fast before everyone dug in!)

One of my friends told me about Asiana Garden Restaurant, and I decided to make the trip because I…read morewas craving authentic Korean cuisine. The parking lot is shared with other businesses in the strip (with Asiana Market, a Korean grocery store, located at the far left). There are plenty of spaces available in the private lot. Upon entering the restaurant, the main hostess, who may also be the owner, is straight ahead. There are approximately 12 tables in the main dining room, along with a larger room to the left that offers additional seating. FOOD: 1. Pork Dupbap Lunch Special (4/5): If you've tried beef bulgogi, this is similar but made with spiced pork. You really can't go wrong with this dish. 2. Spicy Rice Cake (Tteokbokki, 4/5): I'm usually picky with tteokbokki because many restaurants make it too sweet or lacking in flavor. This version was one of the better restaurant renditions I've had. A classic Korean street and comfort food, it consists of spicy-sweet rice cakes with fish cake, cabbage, and scallions. I would definitely order this again. Best shared between 2-3 people. 3. Seafood Soon Dubu (Soft Tofu Stew, 4/5): A spicy, well-seasoned stew made with silky soft tofu, vegetables, and seafood. This is especially comforting during the cold winter season. I highly recommend ordering one of the soups when it's cold out. The portion was generous, as I took half home. 4. Yangnyeom Korean Fried Chicken (New KFC; not on the original menu, 3/5): Ten pieces of boneless chicken served with pickled daikon radish. The sauce was a sweet chili blend. While flavorful, it lacked the extra crispiness typically found in Korean fried chicken. 5. Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pajeon, 4/5): One of our favorites. This version featured shrimp and squid, with a crispy exterior and a soft interior. It was served hot with a tangy dipping sauce made from soy sauce and rice vinegar. Best shared between 2-3 people. 6. Kimchi Fried Rice (3/5): A popular dish made with kimchi, rice, and diced vegetables, often with meat such as Spam. This version did not include meat but was topped with a runny egg for protein and garnished with dried seaweed flakes. Best shared between 2-3 people. 7. Japchae (Stir-Fried Glass Noodles, 3/5): A popular Korean appetizer, often served as a side dish (banchan). Typically stir-fried with vegetables and beef, this version was served in a slightly sweet broth, which differed from the traditional preparation. Best shared between 2-3 people. The service was good. Our water glasses were never empty, and the staff checked on us twice during our meal. Would I come back? Yes. Be sure to check out the lunch specials.
