I've never taken the time to write a review on any business but after reading the latest unflattering reviews on Genesis Hoops, I felt an obligation to clear up some misleading statements. I am a parent, with a child on the very basketball team that this family was asked to step down from. I was actually sitting directly in front of this family during said "altercation," that transpired while I was attempting to watch my son play in his basketball game. Now...if, as a family and basketball player, you are new to the world of travel basketball and tournaments, I understand the climate can take a readjustment period. It's not your school team or your rec league atmosphere. It's intense; in all the best ways. It's competition. It's hard work. It's dedication. It's commitment. It's emotional intelligence. It's winning big. It's losing graciously. It's training; both physically and mentally. It's teamwork. It's work ethic. It's restraint. It's everything that's good; when your child has a true love for the game of basketball. It's these values that the Genesis Hoops organization is working to instill into their players. It should go without being said that these values need to be extended to the players parents as well. Lead by example. No one EVER left a basketball game saying, "oh man that was the greatest ref ever! He/she made all the best calls! They are refs. They make unfavorable calls on both sides. Get over it. It happens. Just watch a NBA game on t.v. They aren't there to make friends with any teams, only to ref the game the way they see fit. They also aren't directly affiliated with any one team or tournament, you see the same refs at a small tournament in Corona as you do a huge tournament in Garden Grove. So the absurdity of correlating your child's safety and well-being to some idealistic picture of a perfect ref is beyond me. And if you've ever been involved in travel basketball, with any organization; you would be well versed on contract commitments. It's not about absolving the organization of any and all responsibilities but protecting the players, families and the organization. You sign the EXACT same type of contract when you release your child to attend an off campus school field trip. If you intend to be involved, there is always a code of conduct. It's disheartening that one would write a negative review that may persuade another family to not get involved with such a great organization just to save face. When in fact, as an adult and parent, it shouldn't be necessary for the existence of a code of conduct contract for you to behave in the same manner in which you should be raising your child to behave. It's embarrassing. To be perfectly frank with whoever takes the time to read this review.... If the Genesis Hoops organization hadn't decided that the egregious, disruptive behavior of this family during a basketball game, with all players, families and other travel basketball organizations present watching, was irresponsible and violated their zero tolerance policy, then I would have been ashamed to call me and my family part of Genesis Hoops. I was actually very impressed with how this situation was handled and how Genesis Hoops proved to place value in their mission statement, in their respect for the game of basketball, in their protection of the children that us parents place in their hands and in integrity and respectful conduct over the money they would lose over having to lose a player. This is definitely not a "money over everything" organization. They truly care about the kids and families involved and as for me and mine, we are proud to be part of the Genesis Hoops Nation #begreat read more
