I needed a formal dress for a sneaker ball and a mother of the groom dress. I met Alma a month before my first event. It was so easy to talk to her. She was very accommodating and made suggestions to help me find a dress that worked for me. I was able to find a beautiful dress at her shop that needed a little tuck and hem for the ball. I ordered my mother of the groom dress and took it back to Alma for alterations. It was two sizes too big but she did an amazing job. She completed the alternations in a timely fashion and the fees were reasonable. I was very pleased with both dress and received tons of complements. I was referred to GB by a girlfriend of mine. I wanted a nonconventional blush wedding dress for my destination wedding which took place on 8/17/18 in Mexico. I gave Ama the design and from the get go she was professionally and very detail oriented. She took into account my personality, the location and the overall aura of what I wanted. Ama saved my wedding dress. I purchased a dress online. Everything short notice ( I didn't even get measured until August and married in sept). She helped me and fit me in her schedule and made a bag wedding dress hug and give me a waist like I envisioned. She did the fitting for my husband who rented Michael Kors tux from her he looked and said he felt amazing ! The only thing I wish I had spoken up about is measurements when written down they equated to 2 sizes bigger than I wear if I would of spoken up then maybe I might have spent less in tailoring pricing? Ms. Ama helped to alter a big ol' princess ballgown into the wedding dress of my wildest dreams! Dialogue was open and Ms. Ama was receptive to the descriptions and the details I provided about the dress design. As a master seamstress, Ama was able to offer ideas and suggestions that would enhance the dress; she was also able to figure out ways to engineer undergarments and layers that would make my dress comfortable and visually appealing. Ms. Ama took time to remove & replace (by hand!) some crystals and gems to make the top half of the dress more appealing. In the end, I was ecstatic with the results and our wedding guests were in awe of the fun wedding gown created by Ms. Ama! AND she made sure all purchases and alterations stayed within my budget! If you would like Ms. Ama's services, here are some suggestions: -PLAN AHEAD and START EARLY. -Have a clear idea of what you want (including material, colors, style/design with picture examples, like from Pintrest, Google, magazines, etc.) AND your budget before your first appointment. This will make the best use of your time and her time. -Note that there is probably a fee for your first appointment. When you schedule the initial appointment, ask what the expected fee will be for that appointment. And be prepared to pay said fee before you leave on the day of your appointment. (Remember, time is money to all businesses.) -Note that Ms. Ama is busy, especially in the months leading up to & including prom and wedding season. Compared to my other bridal store visits, this one was clearly the best, but I can honestly say I like the bridal shop a lot. I called them up frustrated based on another experience I had some where. I needed a wedding dress in a specific price range and a specific style. The ladies said she had some things for me to try so I set up an appointment. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Ama (the owner of the shop). She pulled somethings for me and gave me some great prices. I tried on some dress and of course none of them fit (I have lot of junk in the trunk...lol), but she said that was no problem...that she would alter the dress for me. So I ended up finding something I loved. Ama was a great help. She's super sweet and gives great advice. I look forward to see how the alterations go, and the final fitting. It's a small store but with excellent choices of wedding dresses. I described my dream dress to Ama and she precisely found one for me. It didn't take me long to decide that it was TheOne! She measured me and ordered a new one. It took three month for the dress to be made and shipped from oversea. I was a little worried the fitting might take too long to be ready for my big day. But the first fitting was already nearly perfect! She only needed to alter the length a bit. I also ordered Ama's hand-made veil on that day. Ama is just amazing! She took me in really last minute; nearly 2-3 weeks before my wedding. I had 3 gowns including two African garments. Ama took my measurements and in just a few days, she fixed all 3 of my dresses!! What was best about going to her was not only that she excels at her craft but her customer service was really great! I can't say enough about how wonderful Ama is! She is the shop owner at Genesis Bridal and she has truly become a friend throughout my wedding dress process. I heard so many horror stories about wedding dress shopping and alteration nightmares and this was a dream! I arrived at Ama's shop with my mom on a whim and Ama let me try on dresses even without an appointment. I found the perfect dress which was half off and a size 12. I am a size 0 so this was concerning until Ama pinned the dress up for me so that I could see what it would look like. I couldn't wait to have her work on my alterations. I live in Colorado and am getting married in NC but my family lives in MD, so needless to say location was a problem! Ama made appointments throughout the year which worked with when I would be in town visiting family. The very first time I went back to get measured for the alterations, Ama had already taken the dress in WITHOUT ME THERE!! She didn't even have to take measurements and it fit like a glove! She had a little bit more hemming to do so I went back for my final fitting and everything fit wonderfully, I love my dress!! I also have been searching for veils everywhere that aren't $200 and she had a great selection for wonderful prices (mine was $28!). She gives great advice about jewelry and even works on jewelry. Genesis Bridal has the best prices, quality, and service of anywhere I have ever been or heard of! Ama is so very sweet!! I needed someone to make a dress for my sister's sweet 15. Myself, my mother and my sister when to Genesis and spoke with the owner Ama. She told us that she could make the dress we showed her in a picture within our budget. This was 3 months before the event. We paid half up front and half later on. Ama for the first month did not return any of our calls. Finally 1 month before my sisters photo shoot she finally calls us to bring my sister in for a fitting. The first fitting was OK but when she showed my mom some material she was going to use for the ruffles in the dress it was the wrong material. My mom asked her why she was using this and she said that it was because she could not find the purple organza needed. My mom asked if she brought it could she use it she said yes so the next day we brought her 7 yards (she asked for 5) yards of the organza she needed. After the first fitting she kept canceling our appointments to the point where sometimes we were half way there and she could not see it. Finally 2 nights before our event our dress was not only not even close to being done but it was hideous and not even close to being what I wanted. I tried to work with her to fix the issues as much as we could ( the materials she used were all wrong and the color was wrong. but we made some compromises) She told me that the dress would be ready the next day by 8 am because she was supposed to have delivered it that night and regardless of anything I said it was NO WHERE being finished. The next day she told me that it would not be done till 6 pm. at 11 pm the night before the photo shoot the dress was still not done and when I went to see it looked like a patchwork quilt. Ama told me she ran out of materials and didn't want to fix it and then told me that she was going to charge me to fix the issues. She told me that it was not finished because I made changes and that I was supposed to bring the materials. She told me that there was a sheet in the contract that she didn't show us or have us sign because she forgot and wanted us to sign it there. We left without a dress literally hours before my sister was supposed to have a photo shoo for her birthday. I lost money on the venue, photographer, make up artist, and had to buy her a new dress. To add insult to injury this woman will not return my money. I suspect next time we will see each other will be in court. Today when I called to obtain a copy of the information that is the file she kept she proceeded to hang up on me. I was very polite to her but she has no professionalism what's so ever and she was very upset that I have written this review. I am hoping to prevent this situation from happening to another person in the future. read more
