I've been a customer of Genesis for at least 4 +/- years. (This is a review in progress). Approx 3 weeks ago, Genesis replaced a defective starter in my 2014 Honda CRV. Since that time, the car had to be returned 3 times to their garage, because the starter continued to malfunction. Unfortunately, I've had to call AAA twice since my last visit. Both times while waiting after calling AAA I continued to try to start the car, and the engine finally turned over. Earlier this week, the same thing happend again. When I drove it to Genesis (and Genesis WAS VERY busy). The gentleman asked me to bring the car in the next day. By then, I was too frustrated, and took my car to another mechanic in Pasadena. They replace the starter - and since then, the car has started beautifully. Today I left a message on Genesis telephone, I've yet to hear anything back. I have been bringing my Honda here since about 2013 when it was under different ownership. The old owner, Norton, was really honest and fair. When he sold the business to Jason several years ago, he really found someone of like mind. Jason has really won me over. I've had numerous instances where I thought I needed one thing and they found a less expensive fix, or it was an easy fix and they didn't charge me. There have also been times when a repair didn't take and the way they have responded to these situations have given me a lot of confidence that they are always going to do the right thing. I brought it into Genesis and they managed to procure a quality rebuilt transmission and install it in just a little over a week (9 days). Genesis Automotive. After getting an inspection at the Honda Dealer across the street so I knew what needed to be repaired, how much parts were going to cost, and how many labor hours were going to be required. I took my vehicle across the street to Genesis Automotive which specializes in Honda and Acura vehicles. I met with Valerie, to whom I handed a line item list of what needed performed, minus the prices so there would be no influence other than the repair list and one-on-one intake interview. Valerie looked up the prices for the parts and estimated the labor while I waited. She asked where the items on my list came from. I let her know that some of the things on the list were mentioned by other mechanics who had performed other work done on the car. She asked me if Honda had inspected it, I told her yes. After looking up the prices and calculating the labor, Valerie gave me an initial in person verbal quote of $2,600 but did say, "If my mechanics find anything else that needs done as part of the job, it could be higher." I made an appointment for the following day and dropped off the car. Valerie was not present at the time of drop off and the person receiving the vehicle didn't have the paperwork she had prepared with the details of the work being needed. The person receiving the vehicle asked me what it needed. I referred him to the paperwork and list I had given to Valerie the previous evening, but he asked me again, so I gave him a verbal short list, since I didn't have it in front of me. He proceeded to take my key and said they would take a look and get on it. I asked him if he had any kind of intake paperwork for me to sign or to give me since I was leaving the car. He said no. That made me feel uncomfortable, but I left the car. About forty-five minutes later I received a phone call back from an employee who identified himself as Jesse. He told me the same things Honda had told me were needed, which were also the items on the list I had given to Valerie, and that she had used to quote me the initial $2,600 price. Jesse quoted me a new price of $4,300. An increase of $1,700. I told Jesse that the value of the car is currently approximately $5,500 and I can replace the car with a newer model for $2,200 more than his quote and I would need a few minutes to think about it and would call him back. He said o.k. After hanging up, I pulled out the detailed Honda inspection quote from Honda Pasadena which provided the labor costs and oem parts estimates, and I also looked up third party replacement parts for additional insight. Generally, non-dealer mechanics will mark up parts around 45% above their cost. Labor is usually $100 or higher at a dealership in California than from an independent shop. A few minutes later I called Jesse back, and discussed a few different options. At the end of that conversation I told Jesse, "I want you to know that the new quote you just gave me for $4,300 is $300.00 higher than the out the door price that the Honda Dealer across the street quoted me for all the work on my list. He replied, "Really, wow that is interesting. Yeah, I guess I could of played around with the numbers a little to try and get to a better price" He only suggested he might have been able to have given a better price after up quoting me $1,700 above Valerie's intake quote of $2,600 for the exact same work once they had the vehicle, and after I told him Honda's price of $4,000 out the door. Quality of their work appears to be fine, and at least verbally they guarantee their work for up to a year. But given that they up quoted their verbal intake price, and over quoted the dealer price after they had the vehicle, its difficult to know if Genesis would actual honor such a veral guarantee. read more

I recently bought a 93 Del Sol Si. I called Genesis Automotive for a multipoint inspection and Valerie politely set me up for a Friday drop off. When I arrived I met Jason and we talked about the car and reviewed some of the historical evidence of repairs done to the car and I made it clear I was interested in doing whatever it took to get the car up and running. We ended up diving into his own Honda gem and I was able to notice the meticulous attention to detail and appreciation he had in keeping these vehicles up and running. I got a call back a few hours later from Valerie and she broke down a list of recommended maintenances and repairs and I approved. I did not expect to get the car back the same day so I just let them know that there was no rush. She called back letting me know some of the items on the list were not in stock so that they'd do what they could. I then received another call back they there were going to try and acquire parts locally from another supplier and sure enough they did. To my surprise Genesis Automotive worked throughout the weekend Saturday and Sunday to get my car finished. I genuinely appreciate Jason and Valerie's work ethic, soft skills and they seemed like very wholesome business owners and ultimately great people. I'd recommend their services to anyone who is looking for these type of traits in a shop. Jason even did a courtesy engine bay clean which is definitely a worthy draw of mechanics ethos. My engine light came on shortly after the Honda dealer in Glendale did major maintenance work. I was traveling up North, so I found private mechanic who diagnosed a coil that needed replacement and that my brakes also needed work (so much for Honda's point check-up). Two days later, the engine light came on again, but another private mechanic couldn't find a problem. When I went back to Honda in Glendale where all maintenance work has been done, they told me there'd be $300 diagnostic fee and not credit even if they did the work needed. Never mind. Genesis was recommended by a trusted mechanic. The Owner of Genesis, Jason and Jessie the mechanic looked at the car thoroughly and found the problem. A problem that was caused by my now former Honda Dealers. The cost to correct the problem and do maintenance work was so much cheaper than what I'm sure Honda would have charged. This auto shop specializes in all things Honda and my family has been getting all of our Hondas serviced here for the past 20 years. Originally, Norton owned and operated the business, but he retired and passed the shop on to new owners this past year. Although I miss Norton (he was the absolute BEST in the biz) and was a little nervous about the change, the new owners he found are great, honest and very capable. I still bring my Honda Civic in here for any and all maintenance; my latest visit was for an oil change and they had me in and out in about 40 minutes. Although they accept walk-ins, I always make an appointment - they are available during the week and charge fair prices for their work. Jasen is an extremely capable and trustworthy Honda mechanic. The previous owner, Norton, had been my trusted mechanic for eight years, so I was pretty leery when he sold his shop early this year. It's now very clear that Norton went out of his way to find a new owner who is as honest and diligent as he was. In addition to doing great work, Jasen goes above and beyond to ensure I'm not paying for things I don't need. When my Honda refused to accelerate on the freeway and popped an engine light, I stopped off at Autozone to read the onboard computer and see what was what. The computer said it was an intermittent crank position sensor failure and replacement was the proposed fix. I brought it into Genesis for the expected replacement. A few hours later, he had cleaned the area around the sensor, done a sensor "relearn" and uploaded a couple computer updates into the onboard computer (and cleaned my battery terminals for good measure). He charged me $50 total. I was fully prepared and expecting to pay upwards of $250 for a replacement, but he assured me it wasn't necessary until we had tried the computer stuff first. The vehicle is running perfectly now. I am relieved that I still have a trusted shop for my Honda and I wholeheartedly recommend Genesis to anyone with a Honda/Acura. read more

Truly honest mechanics and honorable men such as Jasen are extremely hard to find these days. The story was: My 2019 Honda Civic (24,000 miles on the clock) had a nearly dead battery (really slow crank). But I wasn't sure if Honda would replace mine under warranty nor do I want to leave my car with Honda dealerships. So I went to Genesis, and after a short conversation with Jasen, he suggested that I go to Honda to honor the warranty since it's such a new car. He then referred me to a technician over at Pasadena Honda (right across the street), who was kind enough to replace an OEM battery for me, at no cost! I mean, if this isn't 100% honesty, I don't know what is. Jasen could have easily charged me for a new battery (which was I initially told him I wanted) but instead, he used his time and connection to fix my problem, without earning a dime! So kudos to Jasen and the crews at Genesis for being such friendly and nice people! I honestly can't speak for his services as I didn't have him work on my car in this case. However, I saw a couple of NSXs (both the old ones and newer ones) in the shop. That tells you a lot about the quality and trustworthiness of their works. If it's good enough for these precious NSXs, it's probably more than enough for our Civics and Accords! LOL! First time going back to this shop, since the original owner, Norton sold the business. I first would like to say, the new owners seem nice enough, and I may have continued to rely on them for all my Honda needed repairs, but I just can't get past their lack of ability to properly diagnose my car's problem, even after having the car a full day and over night. They told me they couldn't find anything wrong with my car, even though the steering had a hard pull to the right, especially under acceleration, which I told them, my car was NOT pulling like this before. I also conveyed, there was a metal to metal grinding noise, (which is never good), which had just occurred as well, and finally, there's no way I'd go out of my way to flat bed my car to a shop, had I not been absolutely certain the vehicle was no longer road worthy. After the guys at Genesis said they couldn't detect any problems, and even going so far as to swap out my wheels and tires, with a more OEM set, we went for a test drive. During the test drive with the mechanic, I could tell I still had the steering wheel pulling issue, which tells me, something still needs to be fixed, but these guys were stumped to figure out the problem. Ugh! It's great that they are nice and honest here, and did not charge me a dime for their time, even though they perhaps could have. For that, I know these new owners are running a shop that is morally decent, which I can respect, but I also need a mechanic that will find and fix my problems too, for which, that just did not happen, so I thanked them, then took my car and left. The next day, I went literally down the street a few blocks, to a different shop that just had a Grand Opening. I told them my problem, they put my car on the rack, and, (no exaggeration), they found my problem in less than 5 minutes. Turns out, I had a failing CV axle on the front driver's side. I went and bought a new axle from Napa, took it back to them, and 15 mins later, I was back on the road again. Problem solved! By now, I Am going into my third week, with no issues whatsoever, since the repair. To the guys at Genesis... My biggest gripe with you is, you did not LISTEN to me. I specifically said, I heard metal to metal grinding, I also told you, the problem had just occurred the same day I dropped off my car to you, and I also said, my car had just STARTED pulling to one side, on this day too. I think if you guys had better LISTENED to me explain the symptoms, it would have caused you to better look for, diagnose, and remedy the problem, and at the very least, keep me from having to feel frustrated over your mechanic's lack of acknowledgement towards my concerns, especially after I explained the details of my circumstance, with at least one of your mechanics being rather dismissive about it all, probably due to his being lost for having any answers, which led to my frustration, because I know I have a problem, as well as putting a customer (me), back on the road in a safety compromised vehicle, that was more than likely about to leave me stranded somewhere. I cannot stress how much this was everything I want out of the experience of going to a mechanic. I needed routine maintenance done on my 2015 Toyota Prius, and on top of the routine check-up needed my right headlight and right rear tire fixed, and I was hoping for a price better than what they do at the Toyota dealership. I called at 11am. They said I could come in at 1pm. I showed up at 1pm, I left with everything fixed by 2:30pm. The mechanic was thorough and efficient, found the problems to be solved and solved them, with no extra BS trying to sell me on additional services or products. All said and done it wasn't even $100. When I go to the dealership I always brace myself to spend at least $200. The waiting room was well air conditioned, and the receptionist in the office was very professional and courteous and made the wait more enjoyable. Absolutely painless and pleasant. Norton is awesome. My Honda was sounding like an old pickup truck. Firestone thought is was the sway bar links and recommended I replace them. Pep Boys didn't know what was wrong with the car. I took it to Certified Auto Repair and they wanted 85 bucks for a diagnostic. Honda dealer charges 130. I came to see Norton who put my car up on the lift. Said the plastic underneath the car was missing bolts. Put them on for free. Noise is gone! He also got the guy next door from the auto body shop to put a couple of clips on the front fender and give me a second opinion on the body work I just had done that I felt I got ripped off on. Now I know it's a Honda dealership and they have the best technicians mechanics but when you're a woman and they're trying to take your money and make you look stupid I will not fall for that.
