My wife is forcing me to write a great review for Genesee because these guys did such a wonderful service for us earlier this week. Our new propane tank was delivered a few days ago and we had to scramble to have someone fill it as our house is only heated by propane. Because of Christmas everyone else either refused service or greatly exaggerated their price. When I called Genesse, they not only were the lowest cost but promised to deliver it by 24th. Well thy actually ended up delivering our propane a day earlier and needless to say my family was grateful and very happy. They saved our holidays. Also,our driveway was very tricky but the driver was very professional and had no problem in delivering it to our house in Carnation. Good, professional folks. Thanks Genesee. read more

I came back from vacation recently to find that my house had no heat - our gas furnace had died while we were gone. The previous owner of our house had used another company to service the gas furnace, and I called their number from the sticker on our furnace. the next morning. They said that they might be able to get there the next day. Not wanting to endure another day of no heat in the middle of the winter, I called Genesee to see if they could service our gas heat. They had a technician out in about an hour, and he had our furnace fixed in about 45 minutes. Very happy with the quick service. read more

Excellent customer service and very flexible payment plans. I'm new to using propane after a new home purchase, not only did Genesee help size the tank I needed, but came out to fill my tank in less than a week. The story doesn't end there, I called yesterday afternoon because I could smell what I thought was leaking proprane and they had a tech visiting my home in Ravensdale less than 2 hours later. It turned out that I did not have a leak and it was a service truck that was idling on the street near my home which was not burning all its natural gas fuel, but the customer service was fantastic. I had my hot water furnace serviced buy them in the past and was very satisfied. I called these guys to install zone valve on my furnace. I purchased the valve since they have a long lead time but requested they service the furnace and install the valves. They do not install equipment that they don't sell. Very disappointed and sounds like just another money-making scheme. YouTube has a directions on a video so I'll do it myself and will have someone else service my furnace. read more

I've been a customer of Genesee Oil for over a decade. I usually purchase my oil twice a year as needed. And, Genesee Oil also installed my new furnace in 1997 without any problems. I recently change oil companies because for as much as oil cost, they could improve their customer service. I called to schedule a tune up and was interested in purchasing one of their service plans. I didn't find the gentlemen I spoke with helpful. I scheduled my tune up three weeks out with a four hour window. As the date for the tune up was closer I called to get a better idea of when I should expect them. I was patched thru to the person in charge of their maintenance calls. He wasn't very helpful. He couldn't give me an estimated time, or where in line I was. Taking more than a half day off from work is unacceptable. I called to cancel and that was it. No offer to reschedule or the reason for canceling. I sent an email to another oil company via their web site. I was called within 10 minutes and was scheduled for service the following week with a window of time that was less than an hour. They gave me a great offer to sign on which included a free tune up. And, my tank was filled yesterday, 11/11/2013. I called them on Friday 11/8/2013. That is great customer service. Also, I had to reschedule my tune up and was given a date and time that met my needs. read more

Worst company ever since they merged. Cascade oil company was great, until they were bought out by these people. This is my email to the company: End result "Marty just said he won't discount the service to keep our business" DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! ****************************************************** After the last few days, I have been very upset with the customer service I have received with your new merged company. It seems as if you are only in it for profit, and the customer service is a thing of the past. Luckily for us there are other companies that are willing to deliever to our home, and we have never considered doing this until this most recent experience where we have been treated as "disposable customers"! Arrived back at our house to find a note that says you have 1" of water in your tank. Call us.... That doesn't help anyone. So I called, and spoke to someone who said that checking for water is something they got from Genesee and started doing this as a routine. Once they get 1" they don't fill. This was the first time for an issue, and it would be complimentary this time but would charge $99 in the future. They would have someone in out in the morning, and have someone there in the afternoon to fill up the tank with oil. They recommended we speak with another company to get a new cap for our tank. *** By the time the conversation was over, the guy had changed his tone and said that we would have to pay. Today, it is 11 am. No tank has come to pump out my water. My husband just called and spoke with Dan, and they want to still charge us $100 for this service, and are waiting for us to justify coming out. My husband in the mean time spoke with Rossoe (sp) and they offered us a much better deal. 2 year annual service agreement, free pump out, & 30 gallons for free. I ask you, which company would you go with? Sounds like a great deal. I am going to call Dan back now, and speak with him. 206-722-1545 Needless today I'm livid. I definitely will not use these guys. I called them explaining my furnace went out and my pregnant wife was now bundling up in our 59 degree home. First, I did have someone spend a decent amount of time with me trying to troubleshoot over the phone, he was great and I do appreciate his help. BUT, I am pissed at the overall company practices. After explaining my situation to multiple people, I finally got to one man who began taking my information after I was quoted the cost for an after-hours diagnostic visit. It was spendy but worth it to have heat for my family. I gave all my information and just when I thought I was going to have someone come assist us I get "I see you are not a current customer, we cannot help you until Monday, after-hours calls are only reserved for current customers". That is complete Bulls***. Even after explaining that I need assistance same day, I get quoted for the after-hours call, etc....Give all my information, only to get turned away. I would NEVER even think of becoming a customer of theirs because of this. I will also be referring my brother to use another company as well. read more

I called into Genesee to schedule our next delivery today, but since we owe $150 John wouldn't allow us to get a delivery. I totally understand when a company wants a bill paid before they provide more service to you. However, we have had a balance before and they delivered no problem so when I asked it came as a surprise to find a VERY RUDE employee on the other end. We have been with this company for nearly 2 years and have had one issue after the other. Let me start with the 1st delivery. The day we got the propane tanks they left us with something like 30 gallons and said they would return to fill them. The price per gallon on the first 30 gallons was the amount they quoted us. When they returned the driver handed me the bill and it was at least $100 more than we were expecting. The price per gallon had been changed on our account...(still not sure why) and they didn't provide the discount promised. It took numerous phone calls with Ed to get this error fixed. He was not easy to deal with. Next issue, I asked to be put on a monthly payment plan twice and I was ignored both times. So, we just pay whatever amount we can afford each month. Sometimes skipping a month, but we do not get a late fee or a phone call telling us we missed a payment so I assume it's ok. Onto another issue. This last Christmas we needed a delivery so I called Ed and scheduled a delivery. Christmas eve came and if it wasn't for a lady in the office we would have had no heat Christmas morning. Ed forgot to put us on the schedule when he told me he had already done it. Again, another hassle with Ed. THEN We got a surprise delivery and a new charge on our account of $250. I called to complain that they delivered without our consent and that we didn't need any propane right now. It was really frustrating because we live on a budget, we already owed them over $300 at the time so getting this new charge was very upsetting. The invoice had a hand written, very illegible note from the delivery guy. I had to call and ask them: 1. Why did they delivery at all? 2. What did the note say? The tanks are right next to each other. Approx. 1 1/2 feet. Nothing was in the way and we were not on automatic delivery. I still don't know what the guy wrote on our invoice because no one ever answered me...obviously it was a lie. We were not supposed to be getting automatic - we made sure of that when we first got with this company. Apparently we were put on automatic delivery after we paid our bill down. Apparently they require automatic delivery with the plan we had, but they would take us off if that's what we wanted...umm thank you? that's how our account was already so special circumstance or not - that should not have been changed. AND what's odd, after reading other reviews tonight, the OWNER of the company replied saying they give the customer the option to have automatic delivery. Which brings me back to today - John told me to go to another company because they will not deliver to us until we pay $150. So confusing while they will deliver to us automatically when we owe DOUBLE that, but refuses to deliver when we ask for it? Doesn't make sense!! It's not like we are going anywhere and we've been paying our bill for 2 years now the same way. I told John we will have to go to a new company because I'm SO done dealing with all of this crap. Who knows what will happen next. He actually told me that will be my only option and we should thank them for delivering (when we didn't ask for it) because we wouldn't have heat if they didn't. RUDE and SO untrue. We would have heat because we would have paid our bill off and already got another delivery if it wasn't for them doing that. Yes, I'm a disgruntled customer and my review is fresh from today. I haven't had much time to cool down, but other customers need to hear these things. It really sucks to have to call a company so many times for so many different issues. It really sucks that a couple jerks in your company are hurting your reputation. I've used Genesee for several years to provide fuel oil and service to a rental property. Recently the furnace stopped working and I asked Genesee to troubleshoot and repair. They found a problem in the electrical circuit to the furnace. All good so far. The repair however, was abysmal and dangerous. They tapped into a circuit in another room, ran an unprotected live wire through a wall then dangled across the furnace room. This was a disaster waiting to happen. When I complained, I was told this was a "temporary" repair, as if that excused the danger posed to my tenants. And to top it off, the "temporary" repair cost more than the permanent up-to-code repair I had to do. read more

We have been a customer with Genesee since 2006, starting with an oil furnace and converting to natural gas several years later. Since our gas furnace was installed by Genesee we have had some issues in which they have corrected at no charge. Their service people are knowledgeable and do a good job. It is very stressful when you wake up in the morning on a winter day and you have no heat but Genesee is happy to help you troubleshoot over the phone or service your furnace quickly. I will remain a loyal customer. read more

The technician was friendly, didn't mind me standing around asking questions, and explained everything he was doing, and even a few of things he didn't need to do, thus saving me a bunch of money. We have been with Genessee Fuel for over 6 years and have never had a bad experience. We are set up with their Service Plan, which I would highly recommend. With an old boiler system, our furnace needs a lot of tender care. The customer service folks are are always very friendly & they have always been able to send someone out the same day we call. The technicians are very knowledgeable and get the job done quickly. Plus with the Service Plan, almost everything is covered. We truly enjoy working with this company. read more

Edited to add: Steve (President of Genesee) emailed me repeatedly after writing this review, threatening to sick his "attorney" on me for "defamation". I told him to stop or I was going to get a restraining order on him for harassment. Writing truthful reviews is not against the law, nor defamation. I'm sure he's doing this to other people too. Don't let him bully you. Get a restraining order for harassment on him if he does. Thank God we live in America. Leave me alone bully. We opened up an account with Genesee Fuel & Heating Company in August for automatic delivery. THEIR promise (and we have this on paper) to NEVER let our tank run dry. They came out on October 20, and again on December 17 to fill our tank. They left invoices both times on our front door. On February 5, they added $539.82 to our account without ever leaving an invoice at our home. When my husband went to pay the bill online, and found this outrageous amount, and asked them why there wasn't an invoice left at our home. Someone at their company then fabricated an invoice, printed it out, and then sent it to our home. He paid half, assuming they were telling the truth. They weren't. We have no way of knowing how many gallons of oil they fill when they come here, only their word. No meter stamp on any of the invoices, etc. to prove what amount they added like other oil companies do. On March 11, our furnace stopped working. I called our insurance company and had to pay a $60 service fee to them, over the phone, via my debit card, so they could get Furnace Doctor to come out and take a look. Furnace Doctor arrived and told us the oil pump was broke. They ordered another and came out on Tuesday, March 15th to fix it. That is when they told us there was NO OIL in the tank. It was dry. This was what they claimed broke the pump. It was supposed to have been full. I showed them the "invoice" that we had received from Genesee and the service technician said it didn't look right to him and referred us to another oil company. I called Genesee immediately and told them about the dry tank, and after denying it repeatedly and realizing that I wasn't going to drop it, they sent a technician out to look at it. He was making excuses the entire time, and claiming that it was delivered, and trying to blame us for lying and using up 203 gallons in 1 month. We have cameras on our property, and I told him that no one came at the time listed on that invoice, then he claimed that the tank was probably leaking. He called the president of Genesee and explained the issue and then he left. We received 2 calls the next day from the dispatch in charge of the drivers, Marty, and I still have those messages saved. He admitted they were wrong, and wanted to deliver oil to us. I told him, no thanks, YOU'RE FIRED. I immediately sent an email to the president informing him of what had happened, and requested he immediately close our account with them, and refund the money we paid to them for the oil they didn't deliver. Also, that he reimburse me for the $60 service fee that I paid to our insurance for the work. Our insurance, fortunately, covered everything, or this would've have been a much larger bill. I communicated with him via email, he admitted they were wrong, claimed they delivered the oil to a neighbor of ours, but I don't believe it for one second. He claimed he would pay it. They haven't. I sent him copies of my bank statement via email to prove it, and last night, he was playing dumb, acting like I hadn't sent it. I resent it. I told him that I would be turning them in to the Attorney General's office ( I did), and he claimed that I was threatening him because of this. I believe they are doing this to other people as well. We would've never known that they didn't fill it, if it wasn't for the pump breaking. They did something VERY wrong, sneaking around, lying, and got caught red-handed. We (a family of 4) went for 1.5 weeks without heat because of his company's attempt to defraud us. This is happening to other people by the reviews I see written here and elsewhere. Turn them in to the Attorney General. They will take legal action against them if enough people file complaints! read more

Genessee has some nice employees, but as a business they do not seem to value their customers at all. I arranged to replace my aged but still functioning oil furnace with electric. The crew arrived as scheduled Monday morning...and were still there 10 hours later, having installed the wrong furnace. The technician said he'd be back in the morning to make it right. Instead, I was called and told they were too busy and I'd have to go to the back of the line, wait three days without heat for the furnace that was promised. Three days later, the new furnace was installed and the technician left. No heat. The next morning, the office said they would send someone between 12-4; he arrived after 5, spent an hour and a half. Still, no heat, now five days since removal of my functioning furnace. They have no plan to address the problem for three more days. DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS. YOUR INTERESTS ARE THEIR LAST PRIORITY. read more

I've always been pleased with their delivery service, there technicians, and the office staff. We've bought about 5,000 gallons of fuel from Genesee over the years and are happy with every gallon. read more

Genesee Fuel & Heating is REALLY tried me today. I called Genesee's S. Seattle office on 04/27/2012, because I had no heat and we couldn't get the gas furnace to turn on. When I called the office I was told that it would be a $100 service charge to come out and it had to be paid at the time of the service. Okay so I had Genesee's rep, Randy come out to my home on the afternoon of 04/27/2012. His diagnosis was that there was no heat due to a stuck pressure switch . At the end of the service my son came to me and told me that we owed $107.31. I gave my son (21 yrs old) a $100 (5-$20's) and he put in the rest of the money and gave it to Randy. Although Randy marked COD on the receipt, he DID NOT check the box that indicates "Cash received." I didn't even look at the receipt until today 06/07/2012. Today, 06/07/2012, I received a bill from Genesee indicating that I owed $108.38 for transaction date 04/30/2012. It has $107.31 30 days past due and $1.07 current. This is the reason that I looked at the receipt from 04/27/2012. Genesee did NOT perform any services at my home on 04/30/2012! One of their reps DID come back out to my home on 05/1/2012 to replace a RECALLED part that I probably would have NEVER been notified of had I not placed a call to them on 04/27/2012 due to NO HEAT! So I called their office today, (206)722-1545, at approximately 12:45pm and spoke with Vera. I explained to her as I explained above and her response was to first call me back so that she could look into it. When she called me back she indicated that the receipt indicates that Randy "Received no cash and the homeowner was not home!" No where on my receipt (The yellow copy, which is SUPPOSED to be a duplicate copy) is this noted!!!! Randy made this additional note after he gave my son our copy. CROOK! I did not greet Randy on his visit but I was home the entire time. How dare he! Vera is telling me.... well the money isn't here. So what she is saying is.... WHAT? That we didn't pay it? She then put me on hold to check Randy's timesheet for this visit and it is noted as NO CASH! He's a THIEF! I told Vera, who is very CONDESCENDING in her COMMUNICATION & TONE, she needs to stop accusing me when I've told her what happened and find out WHAT RANDY DID WITH THE MONEY! I told her that this was FRAUDULENT and she laughed and said: "Fraudulent??? We've been in business for 8 years!" This will NOT FLY!!!! I WILL NOT pay this AGAIN! They need to find out from their REP Randy, what he did with the money. He marked "COD" at the top of the slip that we have.... yet that means NOTHING to Vera. This is nonsense. BBB complaint filed! I updated this information onto Genesee's FB Business page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Genesee-Fuel-Heating-Co/153200578083479) and then I filed a complaint with the BBB. At 1:58pm, I received a call from the credit manager indicating that he had reversed the charges and he apologized for Vera's communication. I also subsequently received a response from the Genesee FB Business page: "Ms. Marr, I will look into this immedately and credit the full amount in the mean time. Rand is very dependable employee so i need to get his side of the story, to be fair. Whatever happens, consider your account as clear. nothing owed." They also apologized for Vera's handling of this and the distress caused. If credit manager, John hadn't called me, I would have given this ZERO stars if possible! My issue, Randy in their opinion is a "Very dependable employee" and as I was told on the phone "A family man," but neither of those are HONEST! If he has done this to me he will do it again! My receipt has none of Randy's notes indicating: "Received no cash and the homeowner was not home!" His timesheet also indicating that he received "No cash," is NO BUENO! This upset me to no ends today. This didn't have to happen! Stop taking cash since Randy can't be trusted! Randy is NOT allowed back at my home IF I contact you in the future. read more

I have to say that the customer service of Genesee Oil is the worst of any company I have ever had the misfortunate to deal with. We had been customers of Cascade Oil since 2005 when we bought our house. We loved everything about Cascade but especially their friendly, helpful, and timely service. Because we had a payment plan with Cascade, we never once went low on oil. They ALWAYS called us to let us know that they were coming to fill out oil tank. They called us to let us know we needed our annual furnace service. They were great. But unfortunately, they were sold to Genesee Oil. Genesee let our oil tank go empty, so we went a couple of winter days without heat before they could come fill us up. Then, the guy who came to fill our tank pounded on our front door when he was finished to let me know that he "was never coming back to [our] house to fill our tank." He was clearly angry and was so because we had a bush grow over our fill line and he had a difficult time filling the tank. But instead of asking me to trim the bush bank, he simply got angry and told me he was never coming back. Nice. A month or so later, we smelled a faint burning smell whenever our furnace kicked on. Genesee sent out a repair tech to diagnose the problem. Turned out we needed to replace our combustion chamber at minimum, but probably needed a new furnace. Unfortunately, the tech didn't complete his work. Not only did he not turn the furnace back on when he left (which he said he would do and would pose no safety concern), he did not reconnect a fuel line to the oil pump. While I did notice he did not switch he furnace back on, I didn't notice the disconnected fuel line. When I flipped on the power switch, oil came pouring out of the pump. This now causes our house to fill with a gas/oil smell each time the furnace comes on. I was able to reconnect the line --- it took 30 seconds to do --- but apparently oil got on the blower or fan and it's virtually impossible to completely clean. We are now without heat. The same tech did return to apologize and do his best to clean the furnace of spilled oil. This same tech checked our oil tank and discovered water in the tank, telling me we probably needed a new tank. Unfortunately, he forgot to put the cap back on the fill line when he left. It went uncapped for two very rainy Seattle days before I noticed. I had to call Genesee yet again to come drain the tank of water. A different guy came and, when he was finished, told me there would be no charge. But he acted like he was doing me a favor and that he would charge me next time. Another jerk. Finally, I did have a Genesee sales agent come give me an estimate for a new furnace. He was friendly and efficient. But he tried to charge me $103 for the house call. Yes, he tried to charge me for a sales call. Unbelievable. I am willing to give the repair tech the benefit of the doubt and suggest he forgot to reconnect the fuel line to the oil pump as well as forgot to recap the oil fill line. I will suggest this rather than suggest that he did both things purposefully and therefore fraudulently. The bottom line is this: Our terrible experience with Genesee Oil has convinced us to switch our house to natural gas. read more

I have been a customer for 3 years or so and the couple I bought my house from had done business with Cascade (who was purchased by Genesee) since 1955 when they built the house. I recently had my first bad experience with Genesee and had put a negative review here on Yelp. Before the day was out, Steve from Genesee called me and made the situation right. He was able to reverse my issue and made me a happy customer. This guy and this company is who you want to do business with. Always fun to do a good review. Last week my furnace would turn on but not fire up and then it would shut down after 30 seconds or so. I was thinking this is great just paid of my truck and my wife's car and starting to save a little extra. What is this going to set me back? Called Genesee who sent John out. John was very nice and we hit it off pretty well for the short time he was here. Anyways, John showed me the problem which was just a clogged nozzle. No fuel making it to the spark or flame or whatever. He replaced the nozzle, cleaned everything, performed a tuneup, installed a new air filter along with a new oil filter and tested the system. Grand total under $300. Can't beat that. Great service = good tip. I recommend John to anybody. Should have had him look for where water comes into my basement occasionally when it rains a lot. read more

I switched oil companies and specifically told the salesmen John that I was concerned about having my tank filled up too frequently or with too much since oil is expensive and I live alone. I purposely keep my thermostat low due to the expensive cost of heat. I am still paying on my first oil delivery and they filled up the tank with more even though the tank is more than half way filled! Now I have two oil bills to pay. To lure me as a customer, they also promised a $100 Lowes gift card that I still have not received 2 months later. They keep telling me they sent it but I have never received it. When I asked if I could get the $100 taken off my bill instead (since I have not received the card and I don't even shop at Lowe's), John gave a lecture on what a great value their company is compared to others and how great that gift card is. He does not care, he is a salesmen. It is a shame because they do not care about the customer at all even after multiple phone calls and voicing my concerns even before I signed the year contract! Now I have all this oil as spring is here (good timing for them) with the oil prices so high! And I am looking for a second job to pay for my oil delivery I did not want or need and minus a gift card they promised. Did they ever here of listening to the customer? Avoid at all costs, especially for repairs. We inherited them with our house like another reviewer. It was fine for the first 3 years, til it all went to hell this year. Our furnace is only 4 years old, but started having issues. We had them come since we have a service contract. They came 4 times in 3 months - 3 in the last month alone! They tried to tell us our lines were clogged and we should replace them. Smelled fishy. I got a second opinion, who fixed the furnace by actually DOING what those guys should have done! And it cost me $600! So I got my contract fee refunded, and switched to Sound Oil for delivery. I'd give them no stars if I could. read more

I completely agree with the low ratings on service. I found the attitude from this company when I called to be very take it or leave it. I asked to be put on automatic delivery. That did not happen. I asked about how full my propane tank was the last time they came out. They did not know. They also did not know how full it was was then left. When I asked about their practice on when they would refill my tank, I was told'" when it was at 15 %", in the dead of winter at the highest rates. Then the person I talked to , Walter, the delivery manager went on to complain about how, some people don't want it full, some people do,,, some people don't want it filled up in the summer when the rates are low, some do. Well for now I will stick with calling around and monitoring my own tank. I suggest this company start explaining general best practices to customers, and then letting them pick levels of service. That would save a lot of time and would actually benefit the customers instead of the company saving time by leveraging the customers tanks. Tom read more

A few months ago I took ownership of a home that used heating oil. Not knowing much about such the former owner recommended i continue with Genesee until I switched to Natural Gas during remodel. I found their service to be fast. Hours after calling my tank was full. I found their call service to be knowledgable and the website to pay the bill easy to use. A few days back while I had a company connecting to sewer one of the fuel lines was accidentally severed. Not knowing what to do I called Genesee who referred me to one of their referred and approved repair companies. This company came out the next day and repaired the problem but did not check to see if the repair solved the problem driving away with my check in hand. The next day I called this company and the man I spoke to explained how I could fix it over the phone by bleeding the line. I wasn't sure about this and thought to myself why can't they fix what they didn't fix but thought I would try. An hour and half later after trying I had no success and called Genesee as I had no desire to work with the referred company again. Sharon I believe her name was answered. I told her the story and asked to have a serviceman come out Saturday and also that they should be aware that the company they were referring seemed more focused on getting paid then doing the job. Pete came out Saturday and quickly diagnosed that the line repaired was not working. He quickly fixed the issue and insisted I only be invoiced but not charged yet. He wanted his supervisor to review my situation first. On Monday Gordy called me, he had been explained the story, he had called the company they had referred me and obtained a refund for the full amount. He believed that payment is one thing but doing the job correctly is more important. I realized Genesee offers many services and if you have heating needs of any kind you should consider them. We just moved in and the heating system, with lots of Genesee branding on it, didn't seem to be working right. So I call Genesee this morning and asked if somebody can come out to take a look, introduce us to their system and all that. I asked about their services, etc. But what I got was a very car-salesman type of interaction. Basically, he said he will mail me a yearlong contract for me to sign and then they'll send someone out here. Forget it! Who in their right mind would sign a yearlong contract without knowing what's involved or why it's needed. He said, well, previous owners had maintenance contracts which they stopped in 2014....I wonder why they stopped the contract, it's almost two years now. Maybe they didn't have such good experience. Well...he says he'll mail the contract (email not available), I sign it, then they come out. I said that does not sound very reasonable...then he goes into how they are three generations in, they're rated better business bureau or something like that blah blah blah.
