I had high expectations after reading the reviews. My expectations were even exceeded. I've had severe lower back pain for the past two years. I've gone to numerous massage therapists who are not able to give me the deep tissue I need. I am really surprised this places has only two reviews but Gene truly merits 2000 reviews. He is the most amazing masseuse I have been to ever. And I have been to many. I finally sought him out when my hemisensory migraines kicked back up and my meds at the time were not working. I knew I needed a therapist who truly practiced therapeutic massage and understood the body in a way that was far beyond your typical fruffy massage experience. And Gene truly possesses that and more. But what is nice about Gene and makes him unique is two different important points. He believes that therapeutic massages must also be relaxing to be truly therapeutic. To reach this goal he does incorporate more Eastern stretching type techniques but also incorporates warm towels, hot stones, and aroma therapy. The most relaxing massage I have ever had. I found Gene through an Amazon local deal and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Gene is different from other massage therapists in that he is seriously knowledgable, experienced, and effective. He also seems to genuinely care about treating your problem areas (I have a lot of problems with my hip) and I really feel that I am in the care of a health professional. He is not just there to give a generic massage and earn money, he really knows what he's doing and he gives you a customized massage catering to your needs. Gene is a genius. He has amazing intuition and knows exactly where to go and what to do. You don't have to say a word. After reading all the reviews here, I decided to give Gene a try. His massage was relaxing and therapeutic. Gene even diagnosed a recent problem that I am having with my shoulder. He used enough pressure on this area so that it wouldn't feel so tight. Most importantly Gene recommended that I slow down with my workout routine because it is giving me some problems with my legs. Gene is a healer! He is the most knowledgeable, intuitive and talented Massage Therapist I have experienced. I was in chronic pain from spinal issues and had surgery, PT, injections and other massages. I decided it was time for Gene and was happy to get an appointment the next day. I knew while I was on his table that I was in very good hands! I have been seeing Gene weekly and am totally pain free. Not only is Gene's massage the best, so is his space. The spa is quiet, immaculate, private ( only 1 massage at a time) and relaxing. This is not a walk in situation. Appointments are necessary and handled efficiently. After reading the rave reviews, I was shocked to have had a dismal experience. I found Gene to be quite "cold" and disinterested. Although he has some nice components in his work (hot towels and stones) nothing in his work seemed specific to me and my needs. I requested that Craniosacral therapy be a part of the message but it wasn't. I like a firm massage, but he was rough to the extent that I am bruised and uncomfortable. When I checked out, he told me it was $120 + gratuity. He's the owner, and I am not accustomed to owners getting tips, but worse than that was asking for a gratuity. I discovered Gene's day spa over 1 year ago. I had gone to Physical therapy after joint surgery.I did well with Physio but it was seriously lacking in massage and heat treatment. I remained in excruciating chronic pain. I began looking for massage therapy and discovered Gene's day spa. Before I went I had difficulty walking ,and I was in chronic pain.The doctors I was seeing offered steroid injections, I could never say they helped. Since there is so much risk involved, I decided not to continue with the injections. After one massage treatment at Gene's day spa, my pain was so very much relieved,I could walk and move so much better. I felt as though I had wind under my feet.I could walk and climb the stair cases with ease. I had the same great experience each time I went. Mr. Choi was and is very kind caring and professional. Chronic pain is what it is, always there ,with the massage treatments I could function better and I received tremendous relief of my pain.. The treatments I received are worth every dollar spent. I feel so great that it seems miraculous at times and Mr Choi has not only knowledge but also a healing touch, in my opinion. The studio is small with a desk/reception area, then the massage area tastefully separated and decorated. The "Gene's Special" is the way to go; a combination of deep tissue with other techniques. Let me level with you. I'm a college student with stress that's destroying my body inside and out. I have constricted blood flow and knots all over my back that hurt to even touch.
