This is the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with due to poor customer service. It isn't the humans you might eventually get to speak to, its the horrible AI b.s. you have to go through to get a human being on the phone and GECU's awful website. The website is very difficult to navigate unless you have worked for a bank and know the jargon. The old site was bad enough, but the new one is worse. Here is the deal, this time. I went online to make my car payment. It is payday Friday the 27th, my payment is due on the 28th. I went online to make my payment around 10:30am, well before the NOON cut off time. The GECU website says my payment due is $628+ dollars. No, it isn't. My monthly payment is $314.20. I got concerned that there had been a processing problem with my last payment, so I checked my transaction report to make sure my payment from last month had processed and it had. So I changed the preset amount to my usual $314.20 and made the payment. I am paranoid about paying bills on time and thought I had better call GECU to make sure everything was okay with my loan account. Well, good luck with that. You get an AI representative that keeps repeating the same thing if you do not tell her what she wants to hear. When you finally get it to transfer to a human, you are told that there are 30-40 people in queue ahead of you and you can hold or get a call back. This is ridiculous. If there are that many people "in queue" they need to get rid of AI and hire some humans. My loan is nearly paid off and after 4 years of this type of inconvenience and trying to deal with GECU, I will never have deal with them again, thank goodness. read more

My husband and I had a car loan thru GECU we recently paid off Sept. 2025...at least we thought we had paid it off. The issue was a $2,500 insurance check we had sent to GECU In April of 2024. The check was made out to us and GECU. We endorsed the check then sent the check to GECU to endorse and instructed them to apply the $2,500 to our car loan. We thought we had made the final payment in Sept. 2025. Then yesterday, Nov. 13, 2025, we received a text saying that our car payment was past due and the balance was around $2,500 and we were charged a late fee of $60 on top of that. We called the number provided in the text which took us to GECU Collection Dept. and there the nightmare began. First we were on hold for 20 minutes. When our call was finally answered we were required to answer several security questions then we were given the run around about the loan pay off. We asked about the $2,500 check they had received in April 2024. Even though GECU had possession of our $2,500 for 19 months they said it couldn't be applied to our loan. We asked for the $2,500 back so we could obtain a bank check to pay towards the loan and were told that was impossible with little explanation. We were furious. We thought the car loan was paid off and now GECU refused to either apply the $2,500 check to our loan or give it back. After 20 minutes of arguing we were then transferred to Customer Service. Again we were on hold for too long. When our call was finally answered the Customer Service woman then made us answer all the security questions all over again. We had already answered the same questions to the collection department. Again we got the run around with the same stalling tactics. This time we were transferred to the Loan Dept. Again we were on hold for a long length of time before our call was answered. Again we had to answer all the security questions for a third time. This tells me that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing in this company. In other words the different departments do not communicate with each other resulting in having to repeat our complaint over and over again. This is a common tactic with many corporate institutions. They engage in shady policies then make it next to impossible to resolve a problem. Instead they attempt to wear customers down until they give up and cave. We spent another 20 minutes arguing with the woman in the Loan Dept. By this time we had lost our patience but not our resolve. GECU was sitting on a $2,500 check they refused to apply to our loan and refused to return to us. On top of that the woman told us that the final payment couldn't be paid thru the GECU app. We had made every payment thru the GECU app but the final payment could not? Another shady policy. Finally the woman said she "would reach out" to someone. When she came back on the phone she finally gave us the option of having the $2,500 applied to the loan and said we would receive a letter stating the loan was paid in full. But I don't trust them. ESPECIALLY after reading thru all the one star reviews for GECU here on Yelp. We had to spend over an hour on the phone, endure ridiculous wait times, get shuffled thru three different departments and repeat our issue only to be stonewalled every step of the way. This is unprofessional and unacceptable. We will NEVER do business with GECU again. And if we don't receive that Paid in Full letter in a timely fashion we will seek legal assistance. read more

Called and had poor customer service, which included being ignored by a manager who was supposed to call me back. Submitted formal complaints to BBB, NCUA, and the State of Ohio. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I was a VERY loyal customer of GE Credit Union for many years and never once missed a payment. I even paid one of my loans off early. I made a human error on one of my loans over the summer because my best friend died, and I traveled out of town to her funeral and to see her children. I forgot to transfer money from one account to another, even though the money was there, and a loan payment bounced back. When I realized the mistake, I corrected it immediately. They reported this to the credit bureaus, which significantly brought my score down at the same time I was looking to purchase a new home. I worked for TEN years to build my credit back up and do it the right way, and ONE mistake cost my score to go down 60 points. I explained the situation to GE at nauseum, and they refused to take it off my credit. I will NEVER ever use GE again. read more

Update: 3/24/25 GE credit unions response to this was to call their general phone number still no money in the account returned as promised by corporate or follow up call as stated on 3/20/25. I don't know what happened with this company recently but the bank manager and corporate lady lied to us after overcharging several hundred dollars. Promised to have $ back in the account by Friday 3/21/25 after visiting 3/20/25. My husband and myself have been with this credit union since 2018. Never had issues until recently have had several loans never in default or missed payments. My husband spoke to the corporate lady visiting 3/20/25 at the Mason location and she looked into the account and saw that the account was significantly overcharged multiple times. She apologized and said since so much money was owed that the bank manager would have to file a document that my husband digitally signed and that the money would be available by the end of the day 3/21/25. We called at the end of the day and of course no one knew anything and no money was back in the account. Please don't make the same mistake get something in writing because you can't take the bank manager or corporate person's promises they make seriously or faithfully. There must be something that can be found because my husband signed documents that day digitally. While waiting several other people were there having issues with money owed including the man who does repossessions for the company was in there because he wasn't paid for his services. Very shady and unethical business practices. Thankfully both remaining car loans will paid off this year and then accounts will be closed. read more

Had a car loan with GECU. Had hail damage to auto. Sent insurance check to GECU for endorsement. GECU cashed the check and refused to send to me. Said holding it until repair. Difficult to contact to send the estimate and get payment. Website is horrible. Ridiculously hold times by phone. Never had this problem with insurance checks with my mortgage holder. Seems sketchy. I must say that the experience since my posts has definitely been a much better experience. Immediately after my Yelp post I emailed Member Services outlining all that had occurred. The next morning Lauren Dunbar called my cell phone to discuss the experience. She apologized for the experience to that point and quickly involved Bruce Bartko for additional assistance. Online banking is now setup with the ability to pay from external accounts and all of my information including auto insurance verification has been updated in the system. I love how they didn't send me ANY notifications that my account was closed and then continued to charge me 6 dollars for months on end when I never requested for the account to be closed in the first place!! I have been a customer of theirs for 8 months, and I have yet to be able to set up automatic payments with them because you can't through their website, and if you try to do it over the phone, you will be on hold for an infinite amount of time. Unfortunately GE Credit Union is the WORST financial institution that I have dealt with in my 77 years. I had an auto loan with them for a short period of time but paid it off less than 30 days when I got the loan schedule. I went to the new branch on Harrison Ave in Dent. and asked that my Profile be removed from their records. The lady that I talked to said that she could not do that but she would contact some who would and let me know that it was done. I never heard from her again so I called and left messages but no response. I got hold of the branch manager and she said she would take care of it and let me know it was done. I have not heard from her as of today. 7/22/2025. I called the main office to speak to a customer service representative but after 20 minutes no one answered the phone. It is impossible to contact anyone at this organization! WARNING, DO BUSINESS WITH GE CREDIT UNION AT YOUR OWN RISK! I gave them one star because that is as low as I could go. The greeter was wonderful, but the two tellers that were in charge that Saturday morning were, one, very rude and the other treated me like if I am suspicious. I missed a payment of 4.00 on a credit card I use only once or twice a year. since I use it so infrequently I forgot the charge was there and missed the payment. General Electric Credit Union turned me into all three credit bureaus and my credit score dropped 110 points over this 4.00 charge. When I reached out to ask for help, they refused and justified their behavior. They could have at least given me a call text or warning ,which they did not. I have been a member for 40 plus years and have never had a late payment. read more

They run this as cheaply as possible. They do not have enough people working and rely on automated services, if you can get them to work. Getting a human on the phone is nearly impossible, and then they are little help. Don't expect them to do anything quickly. I have been waiting for 3 weeks for replacement debit card. Now they think it was lost, so I have to wait another 2 weeks to see if another one arrives. If the first one arrives, it will be cancelled because a second one is on the way. I had the same problem with a credit card from them. I went into a branch, and had to use an ATM with someone at another location on a small TV screen. I could barely hear him and they didn't even want to let me work with a real person in the branch. They are almost impossible to reach on the weekends. Hope your credit card isn't stolen on weekends or holidays. You get to wait until they get around to opening from 9-5, meanwhile, someone is spending your money or it is all frozen. We had been with General Electric Credit Union and had their old Visa, which expired February, 2022. We called them just before it expired and said we had not received a new card. They said they mailed it February 10, which we never received as of this date. After NUMEROUS other calls & email, we have yet to have them close our account because we had to get card from another Company since there's had expired. Of course, the credit limit we have stays on our credit record. It's unbelievable, they asked for us all kinds of questions in separate emails to VERIFY who we were and we continued to answer. Then, they finally sent a DocuSign form today to close the account with another load of questions. They sent for me to fill out & sign but did not send one to my wife. It's been almost 3 months & still not resolved! When I called the last time, they had no record of our account so I had to send them a screenshot of THEIR online record of our account. We had been with them since the 90's and so tired of all the runaround, just want the account closed. I wouldn't recommend this company for a car loan to anyone. We are first-time car buyers & have our car loan financed through GECU. After some miscommunication between us and the car dealership, we missed our first month of having insurance on the vehicle in July 2022 and had CPI put on top of our loan. Understandable, because we had a lapse of coverage, right? I verified our coverage on August 2022 and was assured that the CPI would be taken off, just give a few weeks for our account to reflect it. CPI was never taken off. I verified our insurance over the internet and email with them several more times before having our insurance verified over the phone in January 2023. We had a three-way call with my insurance on the line, and I was assured it would all get straightened out. Again. CPI was never taken off again. On another call I was told that we'd have to pay off our entire policy before its taken off. July 2023 I called again, had another three way call with my insurance company verifying insurance AGAIN. Was told it would be straightened again, just give it a week to show on our balance. There had also been notes about other lapses of coverage on our account that NEVER happened and was verified with our insurance that it never happened. Fast forward to today, August 1st. I called twice today and twice I was transferred when asking for a verification of cancellation letter and a refund. I was told that my insurance was verified and CPI had been cancelled. Yet, its still reflected on my balance for this month. I'm at a loss. I've been very, very patient and polite with everyone I've spoken with. I've called numerous times and verified insurance numerous times since August 2022. Customer service transfers you or hangs up when things get too hard or you ask too many questions. At this point, I don't know what we're gonna do. Don't use this company if you don't have to. Its been an awful experience thats brought me to tears too many times. read more

New branch opened near my house and another near work. Figured I would develop a relationship with a credit union for added benefits. What a let down! Mobile deposits were easy but take TWO DAYS to clear but instant if you deposit the check at the branch. Literally every other bank has immediate funds available or at least partial and the rest the next day. Two business days? This isn't an upgrade... So I said, cancel the deposit (which they did) and I want to close the account. That will be $15 to close your account... insult to injury? Seriously, we are not a good fit. Close the damn account. THE WORST bank to have a loan or auto loan. From day 1 this place has been a mess. We have had these 2 loans since 2017 and 2019. The conventional loan we pulled out in 2019- we stated this was to be due on the 15th of every month. Did that happen? No. We have asked and brought this to GE's attention several times through the years to no avail. Besides the fact that GE makes bill pay more difficult than any other bank they also will take money out for said bill about 3-4 DAYS AFTER YOU PAY. I paid my auto loan May 13th and they returned my payment the 15th why? I have no idea. So now I am more behind on my auto loan. And how did I find this out? Very unprofessional people in all departments you go into a branch pay on your account make payment for more than what person said I owed but then get a bill saying I have late charges and more than double due. Their app is garbage because they will shut it off on you because said I was behind on payments when I went to the branch and lady there tells me what I owe I pay it but they turn my app off because they say Im behind. What type of kindergarten B.S is that. And even if I was behind why would you close off a way to make a payment. I hope the company goes bankrupt or every one of their branches burn down. You just can not trust them to have excessive holds placed on normal routine check deposits, they create moving targets. ALSO, be very aware that if you have a car loan with them, they will try and place some "Hokey" 3rd party insurance, because their proof of insurance failsafe's are off site with some ALICA Solutions, they will not accept over 3,000 in an online bank deposit, I get payed once a month in a local U.S. Bank PAYCOR created check, same one for TEN years, Bottom line is.... I transferred over $800 into my account to pay for new brakes and rotors, but had to cancel my appointment because the transfer cleared but then taken back. Upon further review this happened multiple times with other transactions. The money was taken out, came back and then eventually taken back out. I called and was told they are having some issues. I was added to a list for the ONE person who is handling the situation, and oh, they were closing in 15 minutes. Still hasn't been resolved and I still need new brakes and rotors! Unacceptable. This might actually be the worst bank in the area. I'm just going to copy verbatim an email I just sent these people: I don't know what is going on with this bank. Your fraud system is horrifyingly bad I've never seen anything like it in all the years I've used various banks. I've called 4 times to handle a situation involving someone illegally using my card number after they acquired it via a drive thru. I want to write out the experience I've had just so you guys know how bad your system is. 6AM - I call your line and hit the DEBIT option on the phone it links me to a 3rd party company who blocks my card and tells me I need to call the actual institution when it opens. 9AM - (The same number used for these 3rd parties is the same number as the branch.) Get another 3rd party they send me to a 4th party in India, who says they no longer service GECU. 10AM - Immediate get a Indian number, can't understand anything being said, hang up. 3PM - Call again get someone who sounds like they're in a local branch says they'll send me paperwork via email to get back the money that was stolen. NEVER receive paperwork. However they inform me I can stop by a branch to get said paperwork so I stop by.... 5PM - Stop by branch, they inform me they don't handle the DEBIT cards they only handle the credit card. I'd have to call the number. Your branch doesn't handle it's own money and it's own systems, it's own fraud line, and who knows what else. I'm not sure what it is you guys do other than sell products like credit cards and loans. Is this a store or a bank? What the hell....? Can anyone explain why it's so bad? All the while I'm waiting for you guys to give me my money back that was stolen. I mean it was only $50 right, but imagine if it was $1000 - $2000. I switched to a credit union because credit unions are suppose to try harder and have the bankers interests at heart. I'm experiencing something else anytime I have an issue. This was FRIDAY.
