General Burnside's fiery chicken with okra and potato chips (slices/rounds)
Mar C.

Not entirely sure how to categorize the food here (Southern with Indian influence?) but the General has some mighty fine chicken. The proprietor greeted us with small cups of some delicious chai and said their specialty was fried chicken. Of course I had to order and try it. It took maybe 10 minutes but it was piping hot. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. Bonus points for it being gluten free. It came with two dipping sauces: a curry flavored one which I didn't care for, and a mint (?) one, kind of like a thick raita I guess. That one was good, especially with the potato rounds. It came with okra, which was fried but with no coating on it. Location is easy to find, the cart is right up front by the curb. Definitely going again for more chicken!

Deeeeelicious! You've got to try the GBFC sandwich! It comes with great chips- they are halfway between a fry and a chip, which was different but in a good way. Perfectly seasoned. The service was fast, I was given a free sample of the yummy chai tea, and the owner was very personable. He definitely knows how to pack a lot of amazing, complimentary flavors into the food. Will for sure be back!

I have been here 4 times between the hours of 12-1pm trying to redeem a Groupon I have purchased yet this place is never open!!! Call ahead I suggest Drove all the way from Clackamas thank goodness for fried egg love for making it worth the drive and for always being OPEN when your business is listed as open from 12-6 shouldn't it open at 12? At least put a will return at sign up......

That amazing fried chicken

Yes please! The sun, star and moon finally aligned for us t check out General Burnside's and what the heck were we waiting for?!! Is exactly what we asked ourselves after sinking or teeth into our first bite of his specialty fried chicken. What was that amazing blend of seasonings between the breading and the various dipping sauces? Each sauce when mixed with the chicken created an entirely different mouthful of amazing flavors with each bite. Sauces: The white dill sauce was really good and we're perfect with the chicken and a bite of the side pickle. The yellow sauce that at first glance looks like mustard had a curry tone to it that when mixed with the chicken was like a mini trip to the Taj. The red dipping sauce was yet another great compliment too the chicken. Chips: Next were the hand cut chips. These were delicious! I'm a sucker for potatoes but in the same breath am very picky and particular. These were fried but not drenched in oil; first plus. They were also just the right thickness so you weren't chewing for days to finish one chip. That also made them more on the crispy side which we both really like. The wife loved the ones that were thin and all crunch. They also weren't salty at all which we appreciate. After being served our dish I felt the pricing was spot on and really invited us to want to come back to try everything else (since we could definitely afford to). Last but not least the gent working the window, Tamore (spell chk), was a really nice and chill Kat. He played some great instrumental tunes that we really enjoyed while we ate and kicked it next to his pod. There is a cool little shaded area with a tree trunk, wall and chair for like 2-4 ppl. If you're in the area they're definitely worth a bite!

My friend told me this was one of the best fried chicken places in town, and he was not wrong. Our chicken tenders were super juicy yet crisp. The sauces were all perfect and had a broad range of flavors. The accompanying potato chips provided the perfect crunch. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area! It's in a food cart pod, too, so lots of other bite options in the area.

Good food, great sauces. Chicken is pretty good, but nothing too 'wow' factor. I'd say for the same dollar to go to waffle window and grab a chicken and waffle with maple syrup or gravy. Still very nice customer service.

This is seriously a diamond in the rough. Timur is a passionate chef with surgical experience when it comes to his cuisine. His recipes are created from the heart and refined by his fire. I had a great opportunity to converse with him and learn about his journey. The food. Great. Awesome portion. Awesome price. I'm not kidding, but he gave me the best damn boneless fried chicken I've ever had. He has a platter that comes with the chicken, homemade chips, fried okra, and a slew of handcrafted dipping sauces. Everything was choice and on point-I cannot stress this more. Man makes a great cup of real chai and a mean lamb sausage. Please don't stick to the norm and rise up to try these amazing renditions of what craft food should taste like. That is what got him into the business in the first place. It's a bit.. hidden as his location is very unsuspecting with a paper sign that says "fried okra" on his window. That's really what piqued my interest and made me stop. I'll be coming back to the Burnside when I come back to Portland 100% #burnsiderules #generalburnside

My partner and I just went to LM to celebrate her birthday and were pleasantly surprised for our first visit. The service was absolutely excellent with no water running empty, a helpful server that answered our questions and made accommodations, and a bonus birthday cookie for my partner we didn't expect. The steaks definitely hold up, too! We both got steak frites, her with flatiron and me with Wagyu and were thrilled. LM is nice and lets you swap your meat with the dish/prep style if you'd like and it was perfect. The fries were nicely seasoned, crispy, and flavorful. Do not sleep on the mac & cheese either! The caramelized onion and creamy cheese were honestly some of the best I'd had. Definitely sit outside if the weather's solid but even if it isn't it's a nice covered tent area with cute lighting that should stay warm year-round. It was a nice space that felt cozy & casual amidst the nicer food.

If you want a nice dinner, sit inside. Our server was rarely seen. Most of my coworkers loved their dish, but my hangar steak was tiny and tough - should have got the NY strip. Deviled eggs decent. Orange cheesecake good, but not great. I wish I could speak more highly.

Now on to the food: I was simply blown away! They have a happy hour from 4-6 with $2 oysters! The fish was so clean and cooked to perfection! The leek salad was beautifully dressed and came with the most perfect gooey eggs. But the star of the show was the beans; incredibly tender and in the most amazing southern-style collard greens sauce. Everything was so fresh and different! The meal was simply spectacular! We were seated right away, wherever we wanted. I picked a shady indoor spot booth. I'm not sure, if it's the right booth, I then realized, they have the swings, by the window facing Burnside. I wanted to move, but hubby won't! No matter how much I begged, he ain't movin'. Then, I said: 'the music here is too loud.' His answer? 'There's always something!' So I stayed. I checked out the Patio. It might work, for the group. At least, there's one of us, who love alcohol. That may give them a reason to come. (She's driving the rest of the group). Since we are heading to an event, not far from here, we didn't have much time to take leftovers home, we didn't have a cooler, it's almost 80 degrees out, so we decided to eat something we could share. We picked the BBQ COHO Salmon Sandwich. Seared Coho salmon glazed with Bourbon BBQ sauce topped with baby Aragula and pickled red onions on a Portland French toasted potato bun. There's a $2 discount recess during happy hour (3-5pm). We were there at that time. (Is that the reason WHY the music were soo loud?) It was served with hand-cut fries. Both were just the perfect taste (delicious), and size for both of us. But, for some reason, I was still tempted to have something else. We looked at the desert menu, and decided on the Peach Crumble. Food taste so much better, when shared! Enough said. (We waited so long for this one, that we almost didn't made it to our event! We were enjoying our time here, that by the time we got to our car, we were rushing, and made it two minutes later we would have been late!) Negative: Music is too loud! Restroom could be improved. Do we need to see those words written on the board? I agree about ICE, but, that is not something we want to see.
