Terrible Customer Service! I am trying to get a quote for a homeowner's insurance policy. I went to the web site where it asks you to enter your Zip Code (so they know which location you are in) and then the web site gives me a phone # to call. It turns out to be their West Coast Location Phone #. The operator answers and asks me about 10 questions and then says "I need to transfer you to an agent... I am not an agent." When I get to the agent (after another 5 minutes on hold), I find out that Hawaii is a special case .. and the West Coast agent can not help me. So, they transfer me to what is supposed to be the Hawaii Office and I have to hold again for 10 minutes until someone is available. Then, I need to answer all the same questions I already answered on the first call. At the end of the second round of questions, It turns out I am now on a call with an East Coast sales rep.(NOT HAWAII) and that I of course need to be transferred to Hawaii. I am placed on hold for transfer, and eventually the system just hangs up on me and I never make it to the Hawaii office.
After waiting a few days and cooling off from my irritation, I start all over. I wait on hold for about 10 minutes and someone eventually answers. But this time, as soon as someone answers I say " Before you ask me any questions, please transfer me to the Hawaii Homeowners Insurance agent/service center." They do transfer me and it actually goes very smoothly. The operator actually stayed on the line with me to make sure the call went through to Hawaii. Yay, so exciting. I am actually talking to the right person I need to be talking to. I spend about 15 minutes on the phone answering the required questions that need to be answered in order to get a quote. The agent says "can I put you on hold for a minute while I run the numbers and get you a quote?" No problem, I say. And guess what??? I get hung up on again while on hold.
I wait for a phone call back for about 10 minutes (they have all my information on file as I am already their customer for Auto Insurance) ... NO CALL! I then call them back and the agent I was talking with is now on another call and not available. Guess what. I get to start all over with another new person and answer the questions again that I just answered for the third time.
Maybe this is a sign that this isn't the right insurance company for me.
On a positive note, I have had my auto insurance with GEICO forever and have always been satisfied with their service - although I have never had any accidents or claims... read more
