I originally switched to State Farm for my Renter's Insurance Policy because of Kevin's complete and thorough explanations of the details of my Proposed Renter's Insurance Policy with Hurricane Add On Coverage, which greatly contrasted with my attempts to obtain policy coverage explanations from my previous insurance entity. Many years after that when I needed a Personal Property policy in addition to my Renter's Policy, Kevin and State Farm were the obvious choice, and I have had that additional policy now for about three years and have been totally satisfied with that policy and with Kevin's clarifications and explanations of any questions I might have. Recently my daughter needed to buy a car... her first... for work. So of course State Farm, through Kevin's agency, was the logical choice for her car insurance, and in the course of discussing that proposed policy with Kevin we discovered that State Farm Bank also offers auto loans. Kevin also introduced us to truecar.com, which is a site that lets you know what others have paid for similar vehicles, so that you can know if you are getting a good price from the dealer and also print out and use the data from that site as a negotiating tool. Also because of that website that Kevin told us about, we were able to discover the existence of various discounts that we had not known about but were eligible for simply by applying for them and mentioning them to the Dealer, and we were able to successfully get more than an additional $ 1,250 in discounts from the dealer on the car she eventually purchased. Throughout the process of this car purchase, Kevin's continued advice, imaginative solutions and help were invaluable. His office staff was also really helpful when Kevin was not available. We ended up using State Farm Bank to finance the vehicle and were able to, with Kevin's help, obtain a monthly payment for her purchase that was affordable for her, as well as a reasonably priced automobile insurance policy. In my opinion, Kevin is a top-notch insurance agent and an extraordinarily helpful and considerate person in general, and if someone is looking for an great insurance agent, they need look no further than Kevin Takahashi.

Since I had just paid my premium a few days ago and decided to switch to a different insurance company, I asked how much of my payment I would be refunded and how long the refund would take. The staff member told me, "I have no idea. I don't have to handle that--the billing department will process it." When I asked how I could contact the billing department or get more information, she wasn't able to provide any specific guidance. It's nice to have an in-person agent, especially when many insurance companies have moved to mostly online or phone-based service. However, based on this experience, I found the in-person service to be even less helpful than speaking with an agent over the phone. It was especially disappointing to see such a difference in attitude between when I signed up and when I decided to cancel. I hope the staff can receive better training and provide customers with the same level of attention and professionalism regardless of whether they are signing up or leaving. Updated: I contacted State Farm customer service regarding my billing information and refund. He pushed the lowest price policies without any consideration to the coverage we need. He was unwilling to explain the differences between policies or what the policies cover and what they don't. He had no information on the reputation of the insurance providers, making me uncomfortable with his lack of experience. And lastly, he had no plan to review our coverage in the future. I could not leave fast enough. I do not recommend this company and I found it to be grossly incompetent and unprofessional.

So when I moved, I took the opportunity to obtain renters insurance with Ryan Miyashita's office. Then in 2021, with their encouragement, I opted to augment my life insurance with a policy from State Farm. It has been convenient for me having the monthly premiums consolidated and charged to my credit card. Throughout, KC Balboa has been very helpful and patient. Often, when I had to contact the office in the past, it was because my landlord at the time was requesting a timely response from me. Recently, when my renters insurance was coming up for renewal, I was surprised and pleased that Mr. Miyashita's office had proactively sent a copy of my updated policy to my landlord. I didn't need to request that they do this.

Last month I filed my first insurance claim as a homeowner due to a water leak from several units located directly three floors above me that dripped its way down to my unit. Fortunately, the damage to my home was minimal compared to the other units between me and the guilty parties, but I still filed a claim because contaminated water had gotten onto some of my belongings. I did not know what to expect, but from the horrible stories I had heard from friends and coworkers who had to deal with their uncooperative insurance companies, I did not plan on having a pleasant experience. I was prepared for a long drawn out battle to mitigate the damage that was caused by the leak. My insurance company is United States Fire Insurance Company, which operates as a subsidiary of Crum & Forster. I sent an email to Crum & Forster with a request to file a claim. The following morning I received a call from insurance adjuster John Fukumae. Mr. Fukumae was very polite and patient with answering my questions. He informed me of the process and what I needed to provide to him in order to receive a claim check. During this entire process, we communicated by both telephone and email. Mr. Fukumae has always been quick to respond regardless of the mode of communication used. After a restoration company came to my apartment to inspect and estimate the cost of the water damage, I received my first claim check in the mail that same month. As I replaced my damaged chattel goods, I forwarded Mr. Fukumae receipts for the purchase of my replacements, and he was quick to send me a second check for the replacement cost value. My last request was for Crum & Forster to go after the responsible parties to pay for my $500 deductible. There is currently another Crum & Forster worker in California handling my subrogation claim. Mr. Fukumae told me that in addition to contacting the other specialist, I could email him and he could check my file. Everything has gone very smoothly and without incident on the part of Crum & Forster. I have been very pleased with my experience and glad to have home insurance that quickly covered the costs to renovate my home and replace my personal property.
