I moved July 2025 and seven months later trying to resolve an issue with this agency over a renter's insurance policy. Allstate transferred my policy to this agency. Allstate's website did not have the option to cancel the policy online. Contacted Ellgren agency by email/voicemail, no response. Contacted Allstate about the issue but they could not assist and redirected my inquiry to this agency. Made contact today, but the "storm" is causing connection issues on their end. I've been with Allstate for years and always had great service -- until my original agent retired and I was transferred to Erik Elgren's office. Since then, it's been nothing but frustration. I've called several times with important questions, like adding uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and confirming if my auto policy meets the minimums required for my existing RLI umbrella policy. But instead of getting an answer, my calls were routed to Allstate's general support line -- and the rep just kept asking if I wanted to start a new umbrella policy, even though I clearly said I already had one. They weren't listening and didn't understand what I was asking. That's exactly why local agents matter -- especially in Hawaii. I left voicemails for the local office (including just yesterday), and I've never once received a call back. Looking at Yelp, I'm clearly not the only one -- tons of reviews mention the same issue: no one answers, no one follows up. Yet somehow Erik Elgren has a 4.9 rating on Google, while Yelp shows a more honest 3.6. That Google rating is definitely misleading. This is not industry standard. A good agent picks up the phone or at least returns messages. I've since switched agents and don't recommend Erik Elgren's office if you actually want reliable service. read more

First in the Yelp messaging platform and then In my review update (which the reader can see), I respond by requesting an agent name and contact information. Mr. Ellgren, (or an employee responding on Mr. Ellgren's behalf) in the Yelp messaging platform did so in this way: Dear RS, Apologies for not responding to your follow up reply on 2/11/2025. We were not notified by Yelp of this. Once we received your second review, we were able to see your reply of 2/11/2025. Please email your name, phone number and email address to eellgren@allstate.com so we can discuss your request. Sincerely, The Ellgren Agency The difficulty in communicating effectively with this office seems to be continuing. I'm asked how I would like to proceed, and my request is ignored and another direction is offered instead. Not so good. Would that extend to asking for a certain coverage and getting something different? Of less importance, with the "we" pronouns and the signature of "The Agency", in this latest response which differs from their previous response, could it be the responses were generated by more than one employee with or without Erick being one of them? What phone number did you guys call to get a quick response?? I needed assistance twice and both times it took couple days to return my call. I even called more than once. Second incident the person that returned my call apologized and said they were short handed. Customer service peoples. Of this happens again I think it's time to change. read more

I have insurance on my car for a couple of years and when I got into an accident allstate denied my claim without doing a thorough investigation. When I threatened them with a lawsuit they hustled and did their job. However I made many phone calls to Erick but he was too busy or never at his office and he never returned my calls. They also don't get things don't very quickly more or less at a slow pace to drag things out. I will never use allstate ever again and their motto is your in good hands with them that's just a complete lie. They are the also under a class action lawsuit for selling customers information after making claims that they don't do that. This is an insurance company that can't be trusted. If you decide to do insurance with them be prepared for the bad service and lies to get you to go with them, don't find out the hard like I did go with someone else for your insurance needs. read more

I will start my review by saying that I've never dealt with a more unresponsive insurance agency in my life. I don't know if it's just a Hawaii thing, but calling people back is a real thing that normal people do, especially when it's business, and this place just hates to do that. When I first moved to Hawaii, I had to change my car insurance and wound up signing up with Allstate. They assigned me to this office. I had a couple of questions to begin with so I had emailed Erick Ellgren from their website a couple of times, and no response. I had called on the phone to finish my paperwork, but wound up having to go in. Everyone that worked in the office was nice, so it put my mind at ease. A few months later, I was trying to start a business and inquired about insurance and didn't get a call back for probably close to a week later. I never wound up getting that insurance because I couldn't get a quote. Cut to 5 or 6 months later and we wound up moving back to the east coast. I just changed my insurance and am trying to cancel. I called the Allstate number and was told that I have to go through this office. It was 4 minutes before they opened back in Hawaii and the lady on the phone told me that she would leave a message for them to call me as soon as someone got in. That was yesterday, and still no call. I need to have this insurance canceled right away, but getting no response from them. I had this Allstate office as my homeowners insurance for several years. Every time I called, I felt as if they were doing me a favor assisting me with my policy. They never sought to update the policy and ask on an annual basis if there were any changes. And as I began renting the house, the policy coverage was switched to add another company Universal North American. I would NOT give this office my business as they really Do Not assist. I have since switched to a much more appreciative and respectful company who does ask the questions to make sure everything is in place...and up to date. read more

So pushy and aggressive. SUCH a turn off. Without knowing my home and the upgrades that have been made in it, and without really wanting to find out about my needs as a homeowner, they came up with a standard home insurance policy and pushed for me to accept it. I told them via email that I currently did not have the time to review the policy they were suggesting and that I wanted to assess my needs first before committing to a policy. They then sent me a "revised" policy. I told them again via email that I was not ready and that I would contact them when I was. I then got a "thank you for choosing Allstate...click here to view your policy" sort of email. I hadn't signed or paid anything, so I unsubscribed from the email. The following week, I got another email...I unsubscribed again. Yesterday, in the mail I received a copy of my policy papers...a policy I didn't agree to. And today, I received another email. Ridiculous!!! Absolutely fed up with Allsate and the Ellgren group. I will definitely NOT be giving them my business and would suggest that others don't either. Completely upset!! Erick has been my agent for 19 years since I moved to Honolulu in 1999 for a teaching job at the University. That record is better than the recent turnover turmoil in the White House. Having Erick around in the background is one of the few existing stability factors in my life ... other than having this house for the same amount of time. I'm on my second car so there was a switch there that would not have happened save for the fact that cars don't live forever (miss that red Acura Legend!). Yeah, Erick is also still in his same office, again more stability for me since my own office at the same job changed 5 times. Erick is super smart, a little too smart :), and he has been taking care of my insurance needs in a timely and efficient manner. Mahalo to Erick and his high quality, highly informed team who also help out tremendously and answer all of my many questions via email or phone. They all get right to the point. The few claims that I've had were handled with lightening speed which was pretty amazing to me. I wouldn't change agents and I hope they don't either.
