This place was such a disappointment . My boyfriend took me here on Sunday and we were expecting something different. We sat down at the bar and we asked for some water, and the gal brought us plastic cups.. ok. The bar was very cluttered, buckets filled with plastic silverware ( super classy) napkins, menus..we felt very closed in sitting there. I looked at the menu and saw they did have a few things that looked very appealing. Pasties, crisps and curry dip; however, when we asked about the crisps we were told they were a basic bag of potato chips . What? not made in house potato chips, that's wasted space on the menu. Anyways, my boyfriend ordered the full order of fish and chips , and I ordered the scallops. The gal informed us we get a drink with that and I asked what they had as she gave us a plastic cup and said we get our own drinks from the other side of the restaurant. When they brought out our orders I was shocked with how much fish my boyfriend got, nearly 8 or 9 pieces.. they had a good color to them and I tried a piece. It was decent, it wasn't outstanding by any means. The batter was too heavy for the fish itself. I assume its Pacific cod and not Atlantic cod, because the fish didn't have that natural sweetness to it. It is off season right now but I assume still it wasn't Atlantic cod. When I tried my scallops what a tasteless blob of crispy batter . I'm serious, the scallop was engulfed in batter and was nearly non-existent . Tasteless, no flavor and heavy breaded to boot. They served a sorry side of tartar sauce in the basket, I'm assuming because their tartar sauce is nasty. It tasted just like miracle whip and pickles. Bland and vinegar at the same time ..interesting. The fries were decent, they were steak fries huge in size but, I would have preferred them cooked a little longer but still decent. I actually ended up liking my boyfriends cod more than my scallops, because if I had to make the choice between tasteless cod and tasteless scallops, the cod is the lesser of two evils. So pretty much a confusing environment ( with kids running around, apparently kids eat free Sundays good to know) it's sorta a bar--but serves no whiskey and hardly any real authentic beer. Guinness and New Castle are decent staples but nothing else to really choose from bummer. I just find it very distasteful how much they (overcharge) for their food, then they serve you with plastic cups and silverware (how lovely) they pride themselves as being a "pub" and have zero whiskey?? But you have to get your own drinks? And to top it off, I can not, in good conscience, concoct the pairing of corona or tequila with fried cod .. gross . I will stick with Yorkshire on Pecos ABSOLUTELY the most authentic fish and chips you can get being so far from Martha's Vineyard. read more
