Went a little after 4 and the place was very quite; the only customers were the regulars sitting around the bar. Went in with a group of people after a work event for some food and after work drink. The waitress was very nice and efficient. The beer price was good, only about 5-6 beers on tap. Food prices are good too, not sure why the listing shows $$, I would definitely say its a $ kind of place. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with a half order of onion rings. The burger was good (nothing fancy), but I have had better other places. The onion rings were definitely where its at! They were super crispy and the kind that when you bite into them you don't pull the entire onion out of the fried coating. Yum! Food portions were decent too. Others in my group ordered: Dinty Moore sandwich, salad, grilled chicken sandwich, french onion soup. I heard no complaints about the food. Your typical dive bar. This bar was once my favorite but fell out of favor with me. The hit and miss waitresses just became more misses than hits. The only problem with this bar is the staff. They have their favorites that sit at the bar and they will socialize with them, but if you are not one of them, expect grunts, curtness, and coldness. It isn't a tipping issue, I can assure you, as I always tip well and try to be friendly. I know many owners might feel comfortable just sticking with the status quo, but if you are reading this, please, consider doing something to change this. It seems to be a common complaint. Weekday night, place was dead. The server came over once to grab our drink orders. The beer on tap tasted funny, like it had been frozen or something. The sprite was flat. 15 mins later and the server hadn't come back to take our food order. When we eventually did get the food, it was quite average. We got some fries and a hamburger. The hamburger was very greasy and the fries were obviously frozen before being cooked. Only one server was working the entire time. We came here by chance and I don't think we'll be coming back here again. read more

My boyfriend & I ate here after going to Motor City Comic-Con, & it was great! Our waitress, Courtney, was awesome! She was very busy, but made sure we always had what we needed. My boyfriend got a cheeseburger with fries, & it was delicious. I got the chicken nacho supreme, which was good. My only complaint was that the nachos were a little dry, since the meat wasn't very juicy. They still had great flavor though! Waitstaff was excellent. They get a 5. Food was awful even for bar food. Everything tasted the same. That gets a 1. The price for ONE glass of "good" beer was $5.50! I'd expect that in an upscale bar, but this is not. Another 1. They also think they passed off a clear liquor for the more expensive colored liquor I ordered and paid for. This place is the best! If you're looking for a "Cheer's like" atmosphere, this is the spot. I wouldn't quite call it a dive bar although it does have that appeal if that's what you are looking for. They have a great staff who are always on their game. Watched "The Masters" golf tournament there and the place was electric when Tiger won. There are plenty of TV's with whatever the current sports events on. The regulars there are all cool and the place never lame. They do have a decent menu for when you need to soak up the booze and the drinks are strong. Can't go wrong here! read more

I was visiting Novi for a tradeshow and happen to visit this place. It's a small local bar. People were good and service was ok but i guess my expectations were different based on 4 star rating that i saw. It;s more for the locals to hangout. Wine options were red and white :-) I was not too fond of salad as well. If you are from out of town, there may be better places around. read more

Great location, great food, and fun little bar. Its a small dive bar / cheers bar but it was a great time. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun night out. Prices are great the pours are strong. Doesn't get better than that. read more

My initial thought of this place was just typical bar food. I ordered the Gatsby's burger with a baked potato and my fiancé ordered a half slab of ribs. Delicious food with good service. It's just a nice little bar with laid back people. Also, They had a nice deck outside. I'll be back. read more

Went here for the first time and it was definitely a great experience! Despite the $$ price rating, there were only a couple special items over $10, the rest was under, and the portions were large for the price. The food was very good; I had the Gatsby burger and my sister had the shrimp basket, which were both delicious. The bacon on the burger was probably some of the best I've ever had at a restaurant. They also had snackers, which were a fantastic way to start the meal. The atmosphere of the bar was friendly, mostly groups of adults sharing drinks and such, and the building itself was very nice and well kept. The waitress was very friendly and energetic, frequently checked to make sure we were doing well and was doing a very good job with how busy the bar was. Can't say much for the drinks as neither of us had any. Only disappointment was the lack of Gatsby themed items on the menu but that can be easily overlooked for the quality of the dining experience. read more

Just bar food. Nothing special. The reuben is a bit dry, could use a little more cheese and then a nicer grilling. The nachos are skimpy with the meat filling and cheese. My first time here and I'll be back. We called the day before to reserve a table for 10 for a work group lunch. They didn't take a name. Just said, "c'mon in!" I didnt have much confidence in that but sure enough, we walked in and our table for 10 was set and ready for us! The person who greeted us said, "you called yesterday. we're ready for you!" From there it got better. Our server, her name escapes me, was wonderful. Got everything straight, including some oddball special requests and our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. It's bar food to be sure, but everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The portions were big. The prices weren't. Large beer selection with a number of specials for brews on tap, and in cans and bottles. Gatsby's, in my opinion, is one of the most unique bars in Novi. Not only do they provide amazing service every time I've gone (no matter how busy it is), but they also make you feel right at home. On my 3rd or 4th visit every employee greeted me by name. Not just the server I had last time, every..single..employee. It felt almost as if I was Norm from Cheers, it was great! The staff really makes you feel welcome and show genuine interest in getting to know you. Joe, the owner, is not too difficult to get ahold of if you ever wish to talk with him. All you have to do is take a quick scan around the bar. Chances are he is at one of those tables hanging out with some of his guests. He is very personable and you can tell he genuinely likes and cares about all of his patrons. Overall, Gatsby's is the only place that actually does what so many other restaurants claim to do; connect with their community! Gatsby's is a "Cheer's" type of establishment. It is not fancy, but is privately owned and has been in business for over 25 years. It is a casual place where all are welcome and due to this aspect it has a great number of regulars. The food is typical "bar" food, if you're a health nut this may not be the best choice, but the drink prices are very reasonable. I have been there a few times and have always had the pleasure of outstanding, friendly service. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Worst service I've ever experienced. The waitress took forever to bring us drinks, then never brought us menus, another waitress brought them over, and then no one ever came back to our table. We waited forever and just kept watching our waitress walk into the back even though we were trying to catch her eye. We were courteous and paid for our pepsi's before leaving, but we definitely shouldn't have. Worst service experience ever, hands down. read more

I work across the street at paradise park and have been coming here for years. The atmosphere and food are everything you'd hope for after a long day of work. My first experience was pretty good. My wife and I dropped in for a drink in between planned events. We liked the atmosphere, good location for us, the food looked pretty good. We planned to go back. I decided to stop in today on the way home. I like the idea of giving my business to a local small business owner and not a big corporate chain. Well, that backfired. I really hope the owner reads this to hear the voice of the customer and will better understand why the parking lot is short on cars at his business. I walked in, sat down at the bar. The barmaid seemed to be busy socializing with another patron and ignored me. I waited for her to come by. After 5 minutes, she came over to me, stood there and stared at me. Uncomfortably, I said "hi, how are you". The response was a cold and annoyed "fine". I proceeded to ask about the draft beer selection and about a beer special. The response was literally, "well, that is what the sign says don't it". Needless to say I walked out. Unpleasant. Rude. Unnecessary. If you don't have the spine for people, find another gig. Corporate chains at least hire professionals or train them and don't tolerate that behavior. Good luck. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more
