Seriously the best BBQ I've ever had…read more We arrived on a Thursday at 7pm and it was really busy. There was a line and almost every table was taken. This is cafeteria style with you ordering and your order is sliced and plated right in front of you. We went around the corner to the bar area and sat inside. That was really nice since the main restaurant was packed. We got 2 of the 2 meat and 2 side plates. I got the turkey and jalapeño cheddar sausage with Mac n cheese and potato salad. Everything was delicious. The turkey was so moist and tender. The sausage was Smokey and spicy. The Mac n cheese was super cheesy and the potato salad had a lot of flavor. The BBQ sauce provided was too spicy for me, but that didn't matter. My husband got the brisket and pulled pork with green beans and the elote. The brisket was super tender and flavorful. The pulled pork was Smokey and tender. The elote was really good. I didn't care for the green beans, but my husband liked them. Really enjoyed this spot. Would absolutely come back if we are ever in the area.

My experience here is why I tend to not frequent BBQ places, I hate being disappointed. The barbecue sauce (the signature and regular) were not good at all. Neither tasted like BBQ sauce. One tasted like tomato sauce with seasoning and the other tasted like a vinegary Tabasco sauce. The brisket was okay, nothing super impressive but no complaints. The queso might have been the most egregious issue (after the BBQ sauce) imagine paying $11 for tasteless, unimpressive, liquid cheese. Nothing in it but cheese and prayers. Adding the brisket (1/4lb for ~$9) along with a variety of other seasonings, made it okay. Ironically, reheating it after a few hours made it actually taste a bit better (enough to justify the price? Absolutely not). The mac and cheese was equally tasteless. One thing I think the Pit Room does EXCEPTIONALLY well is making pickles! These were delicious, seriously I'd go back just for the pickles (only the pickles).

They have a great selection of sides (bbq beans, Mac and cheese, cobbler, coleslaw) and I try to pick something different each time. The green beans are a favorite. Usually, pulled pork is my go to BBQ meat, and it's good here. The brisket just outshines everything. They've recently started serving breakfast croissants (which look amazing) but we haven't tried those yet. They serve breakfast until 9am -- I'm retired, it's a 30 minute drive, and my coffee hasn't usually kicked in that early. Maybe one day I will set my alarm to make a point of trying breakfast. But meantime, you really can't go wrong here with the meats. Frankly, I'd probably be happy to just order up a pound of moist brisket and call it a day. They do bake their own bread. They serve cafeteria style and there's plenty of room inside and out for all your friends and family. Friendly atmosphere, clean, courteous staff. They've got it going on here.

They have reusable, microwaveable containers rather than styrofoam boxes. There was so much food in our order, we had plenty for a snack the next day.

We actually tried to take the food to go so that we didn't hold them up and they said no it was fine. They'd be there cleaning anyway, and that we should sit and enjoy it, which was awesome. The wonderful service was also reflected by the food. My wife is still commenting on how delicious the brisket was. Get out here as soon as you can hopefully before 1:55 PM.

1701 Barbecue lived up to every bit of the hype. And then some…read more We came to Beaumont because I had business involving TDCJ and had my mom and brother in tow with me. Mom needs to be entertained, and she loves to eat. So while researching things to see, eat, and do, 1701 Barbecue kept showing up over and over again. Now I know why. Wow doesn't even begin to describe it. We ordered a pound of brisket, brisket boudin, pit beans, pepper jack mac & cheese, chocolate chip cookies, banana pudding, canned sodas, Boerne Original Jalapeño Everyday Sauce, and Hot Rodeo Sauce. Every single thing was delicious. (Well, I didn't eat the sauce. Both are gifts for friends.) The brisket was unbelievably tender. My mom is 84 years old and actually said it was the best meat she has ever eaten. She spent half the meal trying to figure out how they get it that tender and then asked. They cook it for 14 hours. The brisket boudin was fantastic, the pit beans were loaded with flavor, and the pepper jack mac & cheese was every bit as good as everyone says it is. Even the desserts were outstanding. The banana pudding is homemade and disappeared quickly, and Mark devoured the made-on-site chocolate chip cookies. We got there just in time before an afternoon downpour, and while it was busy, it wasn't the chaos some online reviews had led me to expect. Everything was excellent and definitely memorable. The only negative thing I can say has nothing to do with the food and everything to do with online ordering. Skip the online premium. Seriously. Every website suggests to skip the line and absolutely order ahead because it's a MUST. Nope. The prices online were noticeably higher. For example, the Friday half chicken special was $8 online but only $6 in person. The banana pudding was $5 online versus $3.50 in the restaurant. When the line is reasonable, it's simply not worth paying the extra markup. Save your money and order when you get there. Food this good doesn't come around often. If you're in Beaumont, 1701 Barbecue is absolutely worth the stop.
