Even while searching for it (without a map), I didn't think we were going to find it. The shop is great, they have a bunch of food goods including oils, salts, crackers, jams, chips, and more! They also had a selection of cute little trinkets and some cookbooks. They have a fridge full of beer, wine, and milk, and then of course the fridge of their own house-made cheese. We came in on a Sunday and they have cheese toast Sundays. I'm not sure what their food options look like other days of the week, but they had signs that said they had a sweet and savory option every Sunday! They also had baked goods and coffee. My mom got the sweet toast option, which was an incredible Strawberry cheese toast, and I got a Croque monsieur. We also got to taste a few of their cheeses that they were sampling. We sat outside at one of the picnic tables. Other seating options including two large fire pits and some smaller tables. Such a great spot, can't recommend it enough, and I look forward to coming back in the future!

I wish they gave half stars here. My rating would be 1.5 stars. Maybe it was my high…read moreexpectations... Besides my great company of my friends and the decor.. I would pass First the drive to Cachagua if you follow the gps would take you to a shorter but windy road. Going there was fine since the sun was up but after dinner we took the longer route and less curvy. The place is really out of no where. You can hear rosters crowing and see a peacock roaming around the lot. The interior of the restaurant was very eclectic. I love the curtains that looked like it came from Minnie Mouse playhouse, colored bottles on the railing of the other window. The big moose with a moose headband was adorable. I could just look at the decor all night... in which we did. We were a party of 8 with reservations at 630pm. We sat down around 615pm and my party was complete by 645pm. They got our drink orders immediately.Drink menu was pretty vast, good set of wine and beer. The guy was on top of that. Food on the other hand is another story. We waited an hour and half before they took our order. Then it took them an hour to deliver our appetizers. One hour to prepare salad? We got our main course around 930-945pm. It was staggering in. Guests from the second seating came in received their food about the same time as us. One of our friends did not even get his food.Another had to leave at 930 because she had to get home to her kids. 3hours and half for an entree? The food was alright. My friends chicken was cold and so was the soup he ordered. So was it standing around for a while? The pork chops was massive! Tri-tip was heavily recommended and my friend finished the plate clean... and I mean clean! My duck was a bit dry. In short I do not think it was a yummy in my tummy restaurant. The presentation on the other hand was wonderful, it was like a piece of art. The did give every table complimentary appetizers like jalapeño and pizza. Instead of whipping up appetizers that people did not order maybe they should cook the meals that were ordered. But they were tasty. The waitress said it was for waiting yet, they gave it to all the tables, so it did not seem as special when the table that came 3 hours after us received it also and was given the same spill about waiting... The lady at the cashier was RUDE. Tip was included because we were a big group .. yet tip should be earned, and we did not get the service that of 18%. There were more bussers than servers. To sum it up... it was very disorganized. They did not know what was going on with our orders and where it was in the queue. I am glad other guests were able to enjoy their food but unfortunately we did not. The food was not worth the wait. We left at 1030pm all unsatisfied and slightly hungry, we wanted dessert but then that would be another 2 hours, we think not. We did expect to wait a bit, but not for cold food and definitely not for 4 hours... Maybe if there was a sincere apology for the wait and a discount we wouldn't have been bitter leaving the restaurant. Good luck to all who eat here.. it is a gamble... Or at least buy chips at the general store while you wait for your meal, to hold you off a bit. OH and there is banjo and harmonica duo to render us with entertainment, it is not free, they come and stand by your table with the tip jar until you put something in.

You don't know what you are talking about and or are missing out. Your loss not the General Store's. Yeah, Chef Mike Jones is eccentric but what's wrong with that? He is by far one of the most talented chefs out there and his restaurant is definitely in my Top Five in the world when you combine atmosphere, staff, food, wine, ambiance and all. You go there for the food and to enjoy yourself... if you are lucky you will get to hangout with the Chef. I head out to Cachagua General Store every chance I get... I look forward to doing Brunch with them on Sundays in the near future. Bring a friend and share the Crab Cakes, a Duncan Pizza, a Wedgie and any of their desserts... I guarantee you that you will leave CGE with a fat smile.

We've been to Valley Kitchen dozens of times and the food gets better and tastier. It's evident that the chef and team explores how to incorporate fresh, local, and fine ingredients and bring to life the best of CVR's and California's identity to its dishes. Our favorites are the smoked salmon sourced from Santa Cruz and smoked at Valley Kitchen, Upside Down Hot Honey Cornbread .. and love how he uses the honey, cheese, and garden ingredients. At one point, we had strict diet restrictions and asked Chef Andrew to cook without sugar and to keep our meals below 5g of carb. Not only did we stick to our strict keto diet while traveling but we also fell in love with every single dish he made. Chef Andrew embraced this opportunity to test and adjust to meet our diet needs AND introduce us to new ingredients to include into our diet. We are forever grateful. On this trip, although we asked for his avocado dessert, he politely recommended Chef Molly's desserts. I love how he puts the entire team at the center of the experience. It's a team effort and the desserts were unique to Carmel -- especially with CVR lavender curd. The people who work at CVR and Valley Kitchen are top notch. They are extremely attentive, respectful, and friendly. Many of the servers have been there for years and it shows that when there is a good work culture that it translates to better customer service. The ambiance brings a combination of natural beauty, warmth and coziness (especially with the fireplace), and Californian modern and sleek. I love the Zafferano Pina lamps that provide an intimate experience and enough light to the table (need to see what we're eating!). Thank you, Chef Andrew and team for letting us experience culinary excellence while we rest and heal at our happy place.

My wife and I ate here for her birthday last year and left thinking we'd found our new "special…read moreoccasion" spot. Big mistake getting attached. We came back for my birthday and it turns out this restaurant runs on a strict one-birthday-per-couple policy. The host wished me a happy birthday on the way in, and that was the last acknowledgment I'd get all night. Our waiter treated the table like a myth he'd heard about but never confirmed existed. Water refills required multiple requests and were still somehow optional. A steak knife did eventually materialize, but only after I asked, meaning I spent a solid chunk of dinner sawing away with a butter knife slicked in butter. And dessert showed up 30+ minutes after we ordered it, at which point it wasn't dessert anymore, it was a surprise second meal. Not once did he apologize or acknowledge anything was off, which honestly might be the most impressive part of the night. Total commitment to the bit. Then the salmon, which we ordered off the dog menu, arrived after my wife and I were basically finished with our meal. The rice felt like it had spent the evening chilling in the walk-in fridge, and the potatoes were still raw enough to plant. We loved this place once. Now, if you're staying at the hotel, do yourself a favor and just order room service.

In an ideal world, you wouldn't be here, at this particular tasting room, sampling Idle Hour wines…read more There would be no wine trolly dropping off inebriated women and men whose arms are already filled with bags overflowing with other Carmel Valley wines. All of the wines in this postage stamp of a place should be made by Anna Marie! And they all should be in beautiful bottles labeled with Tim Cantor's distinctive, otherworldly artwork. This is not a liquor store. This is not a wine bar. This is a tasting studio where artwork and artisan wine meet. You don't need to trip over a stray bottle of Talbott, Bernardus, or Testarossa on your way to pick up your next pour. No, this is not an ideal way to try Idle Hour wines for the first time, even if they taste just as good. You should be tasting them in the Sierra Foothills town of Oakhurst, where the wines are made, as the first winter snows arrive in Yosemite, coating the peaks, domes, waterfalls, and redwoods in delicate shades of white. You should be sipping Anna's delicious Heringer Estate Vineyard Tempranillo (Sacramento Delta) by the dim, flickering light of a ponderosa wood fire. You should be enjoying this Arroyo Seco Viognier with a chanterelle mushroom and smoked salmon bisque. Your Love Ranch GSM "cuvée rouge" (Madera County) needs some grilled bison or lamb and a rugged mountain landscape capacious enough to take it all in. Your Santa Lucia Highlands Clone 777 Pinot Noir needs a DVD of "Sideways" playing in the background of your comfortable Queen's Inn room as you soak up its bright red cherry goodness while hoping that Maya, not Miles, is right about why we truly like and sometimes even love a well made, soulful wine. It does not work as well with a half dozen noisy strangers slurping their Petit Verdots enthusiastically and with abandon. So you adjust. You pay your $10 tasting fee for the seasonal selection of 6 wines. You tune out the talkative mob of tasters by focusing on the tastes and smells in your glass. You remember your last snowshoe hike in Yosemite to the top of Inspiration Point. You fantasize about cedar plank grilled salmon and lingonberry sauce paired with the Pinot, or grass fed, chicory rubbed skirt steak served with generous glasses of Cab Franc. You buy a bottle or two of Anna Marie's newly released, award winning Tempranillo for the cellar and plan, next time, to do it a different way. But you don't regret your visit or judge the place, the people, or the wines too harshly. That elusive tasting room magic, it does not always happen at once. Not even in an ideal world!

Anyhow, the Viognier was good and the Cab Franc but not quite enough to make a purchase. I did feel the wines were a little young and light but that's perhaps just my palette. I would recommend trying this winery out as I suspect we will see good things from them in the future and hope to add some stars to my rating on my next visit..

It didn't really matter because the eight of us had the continental breakfast in the common room every morning and there was plenty of coffee available there. For breakfast they had coffee cake, fruit, hard boiled eggs, granola, and juices. I brought additional food for everyone, which the staff didn't mind. Everyone liked the continental breakfast. We ate at the restaurant on Friday evening. I made reservations well in advance, which was a good thing because it was quite busy. They set us up in a private dining room with a window. I had the special prime rib because it was so good last time I dined there. I ordered it medium rare and it was delicious again, except for the very center, which was so rare I couldn't cut it. The mashed potatoes and veggies that accompanied it were very good. Others ordered ribs and burgers, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The waitress was quite busy running around to all her tables, but she was as attentive as she could be with so many diners. I love the peace and natural beauty of Los Laureles Lodge and will probably always stay there when in Carmel Valley.

Los Laureles Lodge - Carmel Valley I was hesitant to stay…read morehere because the property looked very rustic, but it was one of the recommended hotels for a wedding at Stonepine Estate and a shuttle stop, so I decided to join the group. Unfortunately, the reservation process was a major issue. Despite multiple calls ahead of time confirming room types and occupancy, several reservations were incorrect upon arrival, leaving guests scrambling to find rooms, adjust arrangements, or pay unexpected additional costs. The property itself is rustic but clean. We did not experience any bugs or critters, and the grounds are actually quite nice to explore. The rooms, however, are very basic and dated, with dark wood paneling, minimal amenities, cramped bathrooms, and inconsistent shower temperatures. Our decorative headboard was not securely attached and fell off the wall, which was unsettling, especially since one of the few outlets was underneath it. The refrigerator worked well, and the front desk provided extra towels when requested. The complimentary breakfast was simple but adequate (coffee, tea, hot cocoa, juice, melon, hard-boiled eggs, and coffee cake). We did not use the restaurant or bar during our stay. The property has a pool and event spaces that looked nice, although they seemed quiet during our summer weekend visit. Bonus: there are two resident cats, one very friendly and one more mangy. The best part of our stay was Colin at the front desk. He was kind, helpful, and went above and beyond, helping with questions, last-minute deliveries, and even assisting with a wedding-related printing request. Overall, I'd rate this as a solid 3-star hotel. It's clean, safe, and has a charming rustic setting, but the rooms and amenities are very basic. I would consider staying again only if the price was reasonable and options were limited.

They placed the fruits on the plate with the French Toast and it made the French toast soggy. The whole plate was drenched with fruit juice. The breakfast burrito was horrible!! Do not get it! The tortilla was soggy from the pico de gallo on the plate. The filling was stuffed with pcio de gallo too, there wasn't any substance. Just cheese and pico de gallo.
