12. Cool Ranch Rider Sub
Alicia A.

First time here and I'm impressed! Was greeted at the door then when I was browsing the menu I told the greeter it was my first time there. He enthusiastically told me about the menu and their best sellers. I opted for the "Cool Ranch Rider". It's delicious. I opted to not have the cool ranch Doritos on the sandwich. Since I omitted the chips the cashier told me I could choose a bag of chips. Highly recommend for the friendly staff and delicious sub.

Gateway Subs does serve breakfast, and I was a little early for lunch, but the very accommodating person behind the counter put together a "Funny you should ask" for me. Thank you. It was delicious.

I asked the gentleman to make me his favorite sub. It was on point the Italian. We also tried the special and that was so tasty. They have great supple spins on original recipes. Great little vibe in the restaurant as it's very blue and grey. Great chip selection as well.

The ambiance was amazing, especially seeing families hanging out and plenty of adorable puppies enjoying the outdoor space. We started with drinks, and the #5 IPA was absolutely delicious! My wife had the Prosecco, and she loved it too. The service was exceptional--everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and made the experience even better. We were starving, so we ordered the steak nachos, and they completely exceeded our expectations. As a huge nacho girl, I can honestly say these were top-tier! They were loaded with flavor and easily some of the best nachos I've had. To top it all off, we spent the evening outside enjoying live music by the incredibly talented Ethan Smith. Great food, awesome drinks, outstanding service, and such a fun, laid-back atmosphere. We'll definitely be back! If you're in Gulfport, do yourself a favor and check them out!

Our waitress was great about helping me make sure I didn't get anything that I can't eat. I completely forgot what my seatmates order, but I ordered a burger and it was really good. It's served on sourdough toast, which is definitely one of my fave ways to get a burger!! The fries were good, too (I *really* wanted to eat more than I did, I just didn't have the room). Everyone enjoyed their dish. We were there for a late lunch, it wasn't noisy so we were able to have a good conversation (noisy places have always turned me off, I'm there with friends and want to talk for heaven's sake). They don't take reservations, so a wait is common, but it's worth sticking around for. Our server was just ok, a little slow and not totally clear when explaining the menu or how many people each dish could feed. We started with shrimp and a few other appetizers, all solid. Every steak comes with a salad that's filling enough on its own. The real star, though, is the tomahawk, easily enough to feed 2 or 3 people and cooked exactly right. The rest of the steaks we tried came out just as well. For the price, the steak quality here is hard to beat, and that alone is enough reason to come back. Combined with the beachfront location, this is a spot I'll return to for the steaks specifically.

My server, Jamie told me that they called it a Montreal seasoning. She had an understanding of wine and helped me pick the perfect glass of red! She was very attentive and had great energy! I wanted nor waited, for a thing! That's a big deal! The salads and starch were included with the entrees. But we added the steamed broccoli and we spilt a bernaise sauce. I swear I could eat that plain, I liked it so much... let the pictures be my proof. My entree was only 45 dollars... completely affordable especially with salads and starch! Another great night and place. I highly recommend. It is on the small side inside so the tables are always full but it seems to be part of the charm. 3.9‑Star Review (Weeknight Dinner, St. Pete)…read more I'm a St. Pete local and would rate this place 3.9 stars - not quite a 4. We had a reservation for six and didn't realize that meant mandatory patio seating, which was extremely hot with loud fans. For the prices, the seating was a letdown, and the $13 mocktails felt steep for this area. The food ranged from amazing to just okay: * Korean BBQ Chicken Sandwich -- wow * Classic Cheeseburger -- really good * Piri Chicken -- not good * Mushroom Paella -- pretty good * Goat Cheese Blossoms -- I loved them, others didn't * Tom Yum Shrimp -- really good * Rosemary Fries -- inconsistent but delicious * Summer Cobb Gem Lettuce -- delicious Our group of six was split: 1 wouldn't return, 2 would consider another chance, 2 liked it and said of course will be back, and 1 thought it was five stars. The service was great, and the dishes that hit were really good - but the heat, pricing, and inconsistency kept it under four stars for me. It was after work so drinking was not the main event so no real information on the cocktails.

We started with their renditions of a Dirty Martini and butterfly pea French 75. The martini was nicely presented with a pimento olive garnish, while the French 75 and the mule we also tried came without one. Both tasted good, but adding a simple garnish would have elevated the presentation and given the cocktails a more finished feel. Then we asked for a recommendation and tried the Spicy Watermelon Margarita. This was easily our favorite cocktail of the night; fresh and incredibly refreshing upfront, with a spicy kick that develops on the finish without overpowering the watermelon. We started our food with the mussels and potato fennel soup. I really enjoyed the mussels because the broth was lighter rather than overly rich or buttery, allowing the mussels themselves to stand out. Definitely add the garlic bread for soaking up the broth and save some for the lasagna! The potato fennel soup was smooth and comforting, although the fennel flavor was quite pronounced, so it's best suited for someone who really enjoys fennel. The biggest surprise was the seasonal watermelon feta, which ended up being our favorite dish of the night. The portion was generous for sharing, with thick cuts of cold, juicy watermelon paired with salty feta, fresh herbs and a balsamic-style reduction. The balance of sweet, salty and acidic flavors worked incredibly well. Simple in concept, but memorable in execution. I would return for this dish alone while it's in season. For entrées, we shared the lasagna and halibut. The lasagna was my preference--rich, cheesy, saucy and comforting, especially with the remaining garlic bread for dipping. The halibut was fresh, nicely cooked and paired with fresh vegetables and pesto, although fennel was again a fairly dominant flavor. Personally, I would have preferred it as more of a background note. The hospitality deserves just as much recognition as the food. The husband-and-wife duo appeared to be handling the entire front of house, from welcoming guests to turning tables and checking on diners. Despite juggling so much, they remained warm, attentive and never made the experience feel rushed. Overall, a thoughtful meal with some fresh, genuinely memorable standouts. The watermelon feta, Spicy Watermelon Margarita, mussels with garlic bread, and lasagna would be my must-orders.

Nothing special there. The 2 main dishes were plated nice and sides were great but the steak was not cooked evenly at all! Center was medium while the rest of the steak was well done. The person sitting beside me said that his steak was too salty but they use coarse salt so when you but into the steak, you can get a burst of salt whenever you bite. Catch of the day was Halibut. Nothing special with the filet they served at all. Also, for a birthday on a reservation, you would think they would surprise you with a small dessert as a nice gesture but no, they asked if you wanted dessert to purchase. I guess they just care about making profit instead of making a lasting impression. Ambience was nice as it's a very intimate setting but will not go there again. Would rather spend on Il Ritorno.

I was excited to be invited to a friend's birthday dinner here. It was a group of men that came out for good drinks and great food. Well I will say it did not live up to its hype. We went early on a week night and looked less then 50 people in the entire place yet the service was slow and not so good. The servers were very nice just not to good.. We all ordered a meat dish and had to ask for our silverware then waited on steak knifes after the they were delivered. The Buffalo was recomended as it is a lean cut. I was suprised how much gristle mine had I actually had to spit out several pieces. Others commented it was ok good but no High praises. I have eaten it many times before and this was not at all what I expected. We ordered 3 side dishes to share and we had to ask for them a second time after the steaks were served and mostly eaten. They were the better part of the meal. One friend had the wagyu cheeks and commented it tasted like the pot roast he gets at the local dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine it was brought to the table with 3 glasses and we had to ask for more and the glasses and bottle where placed on the table for us to pour. As I said the servers were nice and friendly but it was not at the level I would expect for a place that receives such High praises. I could not recommended any one to go here for the food or the service the Bar yes. A few of us did sit in front of the fireplace and had another drink. that was a nice spot to catch up with old friends. As I said I like the bar so would recommend if you want a nice spot for a good bourbon then check the bar out.

When we visited, it was very busy and buzzing, but the service never missed a beat. Our server was friendly, on top of her game and offered helpful recommendations. Despite the crowd, our food arrived in a timely manner and hot. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly-when you cut into them, the yolk oozed out exactly the way a perfectly poached egg should. That said, he felt there wan't quite enough hollandaise sauce, and the sauce leaned a little too lemony for his taste. The English muffin also could have been toasted a bit more. The hash browns, however, were the star of the dish-perfectly crisp and well seasoned. I went with the Key West BLT with blackened mahi-mahi, served on a toasted sourdough with garlic aioli. The fish was blackened perfectly-well seasoned with lots of flavor-and paired nicely with the sandwich. I originally planned to order the house chips, but they were not available. Our server recommended the French fries instead because of their unique shape, and she was right-they were crispy and nicely seasoned. Most of the seating is outdoors under umbrellas, which adds to the laid-back Florida vibe. Overall, this is a lively neighborhood spot that feels full of locals who clearly love coming here. We'll be back to try more dishes.
