This is your typical, yet amazing greasy spoon dive. The food here is completely the reason you come! The eggs, pancakes, breakfast meats are perfection. The breakfast potatoes are the star of the show. Don't come for fresh air or super friendly wait staff, but do come for the food!

A class spot in a growing downtown city. Central Diner (previously called Central Coffee Shoppe) is a must-go if you're looking for yummy, convenient and inexpensive food. The vibe is laid-back, friendly and easy-going, which is pretty rare to find in the hub that is downtown St. Pete. The service was excellent, it's easy to feel like a burden at restaurants, but our waitress Dawn was exceptionally friendly and thorough with the menu. The omelette I got was fabulous, and the hash potatoes I got were crispy, fresh and salty-deliciousness.

My easy like a Sunday morning start put my whole routine behind. I workout fasted so it's almost noon, workout is done and I am HANGRY. Not gonna lie, my intention was to hit the cooler looking place across the street, I even got a table. It was LOUD and slow. I looked longingly at the unassuming and easily overlooked Central Diner and dashed over -- no expectations other than fast service to quickly feed my starving soul. And it turned out to be an EXCELLENT decision. It has a true diner vibe, no upscale flash and it's small. Since it was a nice day, I chose to eat outside because I enjoy I all the sights and sounds of Central Ave. I was greeted by my server Megan. I could tell she'd had a busy morning but she was friendly and attentive rivaling service I've received In fine dining establishments. I'm an egg, toast, and grits girlie but this fine morning Megan, through the power of subtle suggestion, persuaded me to try the blueberry pancake a standout surprise. The whole mean was good. The eggs were perfect, runny but not too runny and the grits tasted just like home and the pancake was pure heaven-- fluffy, flavorful, and enough berries so I had a one in every mouthful. Central Diner isn't flashy or fancy but the food is fantastic and budget friendly -- I think my meal was less than $10 - a solid choice and I will go there again.

Now Called Central Diner, this place is your typical old fashioned diner. It's been around since the mid 70"s and is filled with mostly locals, so I'm glad I stumbled on it. Great coffee with refills and delicious pancakes. Service was good too. Walking distance from most downtown hotels and definitely not touristy. It has a real 70's diner vibe.

House made corned beef hash! It's good! Come visit this old fashioned diner in the heart of St. Pete

This is your good old fashioned coffee shop. The kind we went to back in the day but you don't see a lot of in downtown St Pete today. Friendly service. Straightforward and simple breakfast menu. Great food...eggs, grits, pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits, omelets, etc. They also offer a lunch menu with hamburgers, club sandwiches, salads, patty melts, grilled cheese, etc. Great prices compared to all the places here in St Pete. Small parking lot on side of building and Metered parking along Central Ave.

Enjoying a 3 egg omelette with bacon and sausage and ham.

This awesome diner has been a staple in St Pete since the 70's. Not much has changed inside or on their menu. Best omelettes, biscuits and gravy and hash browns. We sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance of the sounds of the city. Skateboards, loud car music and of course e-bikes whizzing by. Great coffee too! Grits fried eggs ham hash browns all fantastic! Happy Mother's Day!

Is getting food poisoning from your establishment funny?

C'è qualcosa di magico nell'essere in una tavola calda al mattino con un caffè caldo fumante e un panino caldo per la colazione con buona musica in sottofondo.

Now called "Central Diner' this place never fails me: good food out fast and a lively vibe! There is no seating for party's over 4 so keep this in mind. Could do without the person cleaning tables and openly burping though. That was not appreciated.

Classic diner breakfast food. I can't comment on lunch as no one at the table ordered lunch food. Everyone was happy with what we ordered. I had an omelette with sausage, peppers and onions and Swiss cheese. Very tasty! Thank the lord the eggs were not over cooked! That's the saddest most disappointing experience am I right?! Anyway, it came with potatoes, the thin sliced kind that get all crispy. Yum. Only disappointed for me was the corned beef hash is canned, especially since the top of the menu indicates they only use fresh ingredients. They do add green chilis which spruces it up a notch. Overall breakfast was tasty and enjoyable and great if you want that diner breakfast experience.

This hole in the wall was delicious! The staff were working super fast and efficiently which indicated this was a good diner. The coffee was delicious which is a must for a breakfast place. Free coffee refills and waiters checked on us frequently which is nice as they were very clearly busy. The food was 10/10 the only slight downside was it was a bit pricy for breakfast but it could be because it is in a major area in St. Pete. Still super worth it to try and will be back again!

Don't be fooled. The corned beef hash really isn't homemade. They just doctor it with green peppers and onions.

I actually got a few of them, one had salt on the rim which I liked while the first 2 I got did not, so some inconsistency there but a good drink regardless. To eat, I got the sun kissed ahi tuna bowl; wow I was impressed! The tuna was tasty and had a pretzel crust which is unique. The pineapple paired nicely and was refreshing. Combined with the quinoa and spinach this felt like a really healthy tasty option. I've also gotten the winger pizza, clucker pizza, farmer and the pig, and buff chicken bowl before here and liked everything. The tuna bowl is definitely my new favorite though. My date got the boss plate and also a waffle which I tried and was sweet and fluffy and good. They also offer a beer wall where you get a wristband and pour beer yourself. Getting a flight here is a fun option to try different beers. They do get busy during brunch so making a reservation or allowing extra time in your schedule in case there's a wait is a good idea.

Patio was super nice in the March weather. The Beer Wall is really fun with a ton of options. Do not necessarily rely on the tap list on their website, as it was slightly different than what was actually available but still plenty of good beers. Love that you don't have to have a whole pint of something and only pay for what you pour. Happy Hour food was really good with the buffalo pizza, the pickle fries, and the pretzel crusted tuna. Everything was done well and came out fresh. If you're looking for a nice casual spot in downtown St. Pete would give this a try.

Great experience with a twist!…read more Food 8.0 Vibe 8.9 Service 8.7 Overall 8.4 This place definitely has his own theme and vibe and it sticks to it. A straightforward menu gives a decent variety and the chef delivered on the flavor. We had the egg Benedict the Gudda grits, and the (not so) French toast. Overall, the food was delicious, but I was extremely disappointed with the "French toast" for some reason, the chef opted for not doing an egg/milk bath for their French toast, which to me is a grave mistake, who wants to dry French toast? This liberty could be excused, and tolerable for the sake of creativity and innovation, IF it was openly, shared on the menu, or by the server. However, this came to a COMPLETE surprise to me AFTER ordering and receiving it. I've never had DRY French toast, nor do I ever wish to again despite the tasty toppings and well executed cinnamon butter cream, it was still not an enjoyable experience, especially if you're expecting classic French toast. That said the eggs Benedict was phenomenal. The pork is perfectly cooked. The biscuits are light and fluffy. And the sauce was immaculate. The Gudda grits surprise me while not being creamy in the same way of grit, I've had in the past, these retained their grit structure, but it kind of melted in your mouth, providing that creamy texture and they add chopped bacon and a sweet I would guess type of reduction in just the right amount to balance the flavor of the Gudda. I do wish they had sausage and hash browns. But it's not that kind of place. My last complaint would be in the potatoes that come with the Benedict. Whatever other option, they have picked those get anything, but those ours came undercooked, and they refried them for us, and they still were just below average which for a place like this. I expected more. Overall, not a bad place. The coffee was phenomenal. I had a dirty Matcha, and it was perfectly executed. Prices aren't terrible for what you'd expect from downtown St Pete at a fancy place, so I was happy. Service was good and friendly. After I expressed my dissatisfaction with the French toast, the manager came over and offered his apologies and remove the item from my bill, even offered to bring us something else, and to have a beverage to go to make up for it. However, I was at the end of our mail and I was ready to get going with the rest of my day, so I said thank you and we departed. Overall, I will not come back for French toast but that eggs Benedict. I would definitely come back and try something else as well. Give it a shot. Just DONT get the French toast. If you like normal French toast.

Everyone there seems to be friendly and you get that comfortable feeling. We had a variety of food items, some better than others but nothing below average. Really good salads, as you can see by the pictures, a nice job on the chicken wings, a BLT that was pretty tasty; the butternut squash soup was OK, pretty thick and not hot at all. One was returned to the kitchen to be heated up. There was a chicken dip that really didn't hit the spot, and the tortilla chips that came with it seem to be past their prime. As for the fried mushrooms. I found them pretty much ordinary. A nice surprise were the brussels sprouts with balsamic and goat cheese. Really really good. Overall, I would give the food about a 3 1/2 stars at the service five stars so what averages out around four stars. Like I said it looks like a nice place to hang around and have a couple of beverages and a little something to eat.
