She was fabulous, easy to talk to, and gentle. Kelsey was our hygienist today and also a gem. Really can't say enough great things about this dental practice. My entire family now sees him and thinks very highly of him. I had the normal teeth issues- cavities, root canals and crowns and from day one he was truly kind and caring. Very sensitive to if you are in any pain and what is most comfortable for you. Genuine man. He will give you the options for what is available to you and for your problem. the pros and cons and a rough price estimate and most importantly not rush you to make any decision in the moment. I personally had to have quit a bit of work done and he was patient with me and made me very comfortable just taking care of one thing at a time. Another bit of information- My brother was the same, not keen on going to the dentist, had horrible horrible pain and finally he looked like a chipmunk- his infections were SOOO BAD- he made an appointment to see Dr. Scarsellone and never looked back...It was actually scary for awhile because his infection was so bad, he had to go to the hospital for IV antibiotics for a week 3 times a day because regular pills would not help. His gum line was swollen over his actual teeth...but put into the hands of Dr. Scarsellone he was taken care of patiently. Dr. Scarsellone took it one step at a time and made sure he got better and his teeth back under control. My brother now raves about him!!! Most people ask how the dental hygienists are...Again not my favourite thing to do- but I do go and they are very good as well. Sharon has been super to me. The receptionist is wicked- will help you make sure your work and appointments are spaced out correctly so that you can maximize your benefits. Dr.Hadeel Al-bazzaz was able to keep my son calm and get the x-rays. We just went for our third cavity to get fixed. Before going I asked my son what he thought. He said he's not scared of the dentist. This kid is scared or nervous of almost everything. While we were there I can see why. They are always playing games to distract him. I drove an hour and a half so my son has the best care. I believe it is important to keep giving him positive experience with the dentist. So he isn't nervous like me when it's my turn to go. If I could give this clinic and this doctor more stars I definitely would! I also always get a call to check on the kids after they get a procedure for anything more then a cleaning. She gave me good directions on where their parkade and visitor parking was. I found their office to be clean and modern with comfortable seating. They had me fill out a patient history form on an iPad which I thought was very techy and also environmental friendly. The dental hygienist that worked with me that day was very professional and friendly. She took numerous x-rays and photos of my teeth. She made me feel at ease and explained everything that she was doing. She was very gentle and answered all my questions which I appreciated! After examination by Dr. Buchowsky, I found out I needed to be referred to a periodontist. The referral appointment was set up at my 2nd appointment by the receptionist. I asked her if my dental plan would cover the referral and she said she didn't know. She told me that I had to find out on my own. With my previous dentist's office, they had always made sure I knew what was covered and what wasn't based on my group policy. It was not busy at the front desk (2 receptionist staff) so I had asked the receptionist to call the periodontist's office to find out from them what would be covered and she did not look the least bit pleased but did it anyways. It turned out that the visit would not be covered under my plan. Knowing this information ahead of time would be helpful so I could at least know what I would be in for. I think many dental offices can money grab from their clients with all the different codes they put in for claims (as per CBC documentary/expose that I saw a few years ago). I think being informed with costs and what services would be provided are all great questions to ask. I felt that the reception staff did not go above and beyond to meet those needs and for the amount of money I spent, I am somewhat a little disappointed hence the 3 stars. After the procedure, I kept going back because something clearly wasn't right. Instead of addressing the problem, they repeatedly prescribed antibiotics and insisted nothing was wrong. Over time, I saw multiple dentists trying to get answers, but no one wanted to take responsibility or properly investigate. (created a ton of fear) I was essentially passed from one office to another with no resolution. Nearly nine years later, I finally found a dentist who took my concerns seriously and referred me to an endodontist. The specialist confirmed that the original root canal had failed they missed a canal. It had been overfilled, which caused a pocket in my jaw that repeatedly became infected. For years, I was dealing with chronic infections, with my mouth flaring up every month or so, and no one acknowledging the real cause. The dentist who performed the procedure claimed to be a specialist, but based on the outcome, the quality of work was unacceptable. This wasn't just a minor issue--it led to long-term damage and significant health complications. I've dealt with chronic inflammation, recurring infections, and even hospital visits due to blood infections that were never properly traced back to the source at the time. I paid for professional care and trusted this office, and after 4 hours in a chair and thousands later in return, I was left dealing with the consequences of a failed procedure that no one would take responsibility for. It took nearly a decade to finally get a clear diagnosis and validation of what I had been experiencing the entire time.(keep in mind I couldn't live on antibiotics either so no medication to heal it or prevent infection or I'd end up immune to them if I did) I would strongly caution others to seek second opinions and ensure they are getting proper care, because my experience here resulted in years of unnecessary pain and avoidable health issues. Also fun fact for anybody getting work done anywhere,did you know your body suffering with constant inflammation and infection, like from failed dental work, ya it could cause blood sugar issues.... I have never had a bad experience when going in for my yearly check up, getting a mouth guard created or for the dental emergency. The staff have always been really pleasant and friendly and even when there was a scheduling mix up, they did their best to accommodate my needs. Dr. Yeh has always been really good about answering any questions I might have about my teeth, procedures and what to expect. I recommend this clinic to people all the time and most of my family have seen Dr. Yeh at one point or another. An extra bonus is that they have clinics in multiple locations (Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, UofA). We all know going to the dentist isn't exactly a top activity on the fun list but at least the Smiles Dental Group makes it as tolerable and pleasant as possible :)
