I pre-ordered a…read morebook several months ago that arrived with a stain on the front cover, rather than risk them shipping another I decided to go to the store (30 minute drive) to do the exchange. After roaming around the store, I finally found the book (upstairs) and the restrooms (downstairs) - did I miss the store directory somewhere??? - and headed to the line. It was just before noon on a weekday and only one person was working at the register. I was 6th in line and 3 of the people ahead of me had complicated transactions involving B&N membership, what tote bag to pick out, etc...... FINALLY another employee came to the register (no one called for her, she just happened to be walking by) as I was the next in line, my exchange involved no paperwork and took about 15 seconds. During peak times, a second employee really needs to stay close and help out!!!

This Newbury comics is part of a mall…read more I grew up on the original Newbury comics in Newbury st in Boston so this comic book store has a special place in my heart. However, the vibe has changed over the years and this location feels different than the one in Boston. This one feels more like a gift shop than the nostalgic collectors store that I grew up with. Anyways, got some pop figures for my nephew. They have a large collection. Staff seem friendly. Overall, I always find the stuff in Newbury to be interesting, especially gifting teenagers. I will be back for sure.

You could spend a good chunk of time browsing through the bins and shelves. It is great that they have a train table in the kids area so they kids can play while you browse the books. I was searching for Lunar New Year books, but couldn't find any. They had a bin for the big holidays like Christmas, Halloween, Easter and a general holiday bin for smaller holidays. The employees were nice and can system search by author/title, but they couldn't do a search by general topic/genre.

The selection feels endless. Every genre, every niche, and then, just when you think you've seen it all, there's a wall of Blu-rays, DVDs, video games, board games, and random bits of memorabilia you didn't know you wanted until they're already in your basket. The prices are almost insulting to other stores. Seriously, I've paid more for a cup of coffee than I have for some of the books here. You'd almost feel guilty... except you don't, because you're too busy carrying out a stack taller than your torso. The staff is excellent -- actually helpful, not the fake "let me know if you need anything" kind. They've tracked down what I came in looking for, and then somehow convinced me to walk out with three more titles I didn't even know existed. My shelves at home are groaning under the weight of their recommendations, but sure, suggest me another series. Why not. I've been a regular for about a year now, and as long as I live in Massachusetts, this will be one of the few places I actually look forward to throwing money at. You never know what you'll find here, which is exactly why I keep coming back.

Omar's Bistro has a cute, comic-inspired menu focusing on bar food style cuisine (falafel, fries, burgers, etc). According to one employee we spoke to, practically everything is made from scratch thanks to the wonderful (perhaps overqualified) chef, including the ketchup and bread. My friends and I ordered falafel, fries, the DM burger, and the donuts. Everything was tasty - I really liked how the fries weren't too salty and the ketchup was a nice sweet tomato sauce - and we all loved the donuts, which aren't your typical shape but were pillowy with a good amount of chew. Highly recommend dipping in both the strawberry jam and the vanilla brown butter. Pixel Paradise is clean and spacious, with areas for VR gaming, Smash Ultimate, and PC gaming. Decoration is modern, complete with custom desk mats and flashy lights. My friends and I played some board games (free, by the way!) and hung out in the cafe area, which is well-lit and has plenty of seating for hanging out. They're open til 7pm or 9-10pm depending on the day, making this a perfect place to play games and catch up over snacks. Omar's itself provides consistently warm and friendly service, whether that's the employees at Pixel Paradise, anyone taking food orders and bringing it out, or in the main store providing recommendations. All in all a fantastic local business to have in town! I always look forward to adding to my small manga collection whenever I drop by.

This trip was for a children's book, ended up with a bath book that they had a few options. They were doing an event with a local brewery in Melrose which I thought was a cool collab. First time here I unfortunately couldn't find what I was looking for and parking is tricky in this area. But supporting local feels good.
