I love love love their Filipino/chinese food. Their prices are so cheap. You pick your meat like your longanisa or porkchop and you get included with garlic rose, fried egg and pineapple slices to complement the flavor and you really pay between $6.25 - $7. This place is like Superstar (I think that's what it's called). When my boyfriend and I went, it was not busy at all. We ordered the Hong Kong pork chops and we paid a very good price for both of them! From what I remember, roughly less than $15. The portions were huge and both my bf and I were definitely stuffed after we finished our food. I even had leftovers. Would definitely come back again. The staff was very nice and efficient. I've only had Filipino a handful of times before (if you don't count the more than handful of times I've had adobo), so I don't really have a baseline for what constitutes "good" or authentic Filipino food. Well, it wasn't bad, but I feel like the high ratings given here are for similar reasons to the ones given at places like HRD in SF: for the price, you're getting a TON of food. So, more for value and quantity than quality. My friend and I ordered their tocino and longanisa plates, and while they weren't particularly impressive or offsetting, I can't say I was a huge fan of how sweet and greasy everything was. And the fact that the food came out lukewarm. Could I see myself coming back again? Maybe. If I did, it'd definitely be as a to-go order, so I could take it home and remake with some more salt, spice, and, most importantly, heat. This place had a really long line on a Sunday morning around 9am. The food came out really fast and the service was just as fast. It's a quick meal on a low budget type of place. We ordered the chicken and bansilog & an order of the HK pork chop with a side of spam. Total came out to around 15$ and the portions were definitely filling. After a long night of drinking, my boyfriend and another friend decided we need Filipino food in order to refuel. I was thinking Tselogs since it was close by, but it turns out Gateway Kitchen is even cheaper and better worth your money. This place is along the same street as Tselogs, located directly across from the Walgreens. The place is also smaller than Tselogs and parking is all on the streets and metered till 6pm. If not then you can risk parking at Walgreens. I've seen people do it. Don't worry, you're not alone. Once you get inside, you're going to order at the register first and then go take a seat and the food will be brought to you. CASH ONLY. No ATM machine inside. What I liked about the place was that their menu is super simple and to the point. My boyfriend got their longanisa, our friend got the HK style pork chops, and I got the tocino. All of them comes with garlic rice, an egg over easy, and pineapple chunks. Interesting. For 3 plates of food, I think I only paid around $13-14 whereas if I was at Tselogs, 2 plates already cost me like $20. Honestly, I enjoyed what I ate. It sucked, though, because I was still feeling the aftermath of the drinking from the previous night and felt way too nauseous to fully enjoy my meal. And I didn't bother to take it to go too so I was left with regrets later on in the day. But no worries, I'm already planning on coming back to get more food. I stopped by Gateway Kitchen to get something to-go a couple of days ago while passing through Daly City. It is located on Mission which like every other street in Daly City has almost zero parking so your best bet is to park in the lot at Mission & Bepler and walk. During the peak lunch hour, it seemed to be about half full. After going through the menu I decided to get the Beef Tapsilog ($3.45) to-go. What immediately struck me was this was literally dirt cheap so I was a little skeptical about the quality. After ordering I was out in less than 2 minutes which means nothing was made fresh. I was expecting an extremely low quality dish but what I got was not bad. I would say at-best average. The rice was not over steamed but you could make out that it was of low quality. The egg had turned into a big blob, probably as it has been fried and then made to sit. The Tapa (beef) was not chewy which means that it was well marinated, but unfortunately it was bone dry. Just having some of its natural juices present would make this dish so much better. Price wise it was cheap even for Filipino restaurant standards. It becomes difficult to rate such a place because the quality is definitely low but so is the price. Honestly I would prefer to spend a couple of more bucks and get a decent silog rather than return here, but if you are on a budget this place would be spot on so I'll be a little generous with my rating. read more
