Callier Thompson had renovated one of our 2nd floor bathrooms almost a decade earlier. I was more than surprised to hear they would send a foreman out to investigate the source of the leak. Matthew arrived to discover that after years of use a small area in the grout had deteriorated to allow water through. He cane several times to repair the grout, removed and replaced the damaged area of the ceiling re-sanded and repainted.....all done free for us! You don't find that kind of support often these days. The original project consisted of a complete remodel of a full bathroom in our 1920's home, of which we enjoy today as much as when the remodel was done 13 years ago. The second project comprised of a two-story addition with completely remodeled and expanded kitchen and half bath on the first floor, and a new primary suite luxury bath, walk-in closet, laundry closet, and covered porch on the second floor. The job required coordination with the city architectural review board, an architect, engineer, and sub-contractors, all handled by Callier & Thompson in a professional and timely manner. We highly recommend this firm for their customer service, design capability, high quality products, and outstanding craftmanship. We look forward to working with them again! --David & Kristina

They do not respect us as customers deserving of even mid-quality work, and they don't seem to recognize the degree of utterly unnecessary inconvenience and disruption that they continue to inflict upon our family. Our bathrooms are still unfinished (only one shower is available for 4 of us), we can't move our stuff back into these spaces to use them reliably, and our garage bay has been full of supplies for 4 months. The work that we can see is so sloppy that it makes me genuinely afraid of the work that we can't see. The only reason this project is finally moving again is because John has begun to prioritize this project and he's been finding time to resolve issues one by one. We genuinely appreciate that, but why isn't this company ensuring that this project gets the labor, resources and quality control to finally get it completed correctly?

She could have easily just charged me full price for a total replacement, but instead she carefully worked with my contractors, made certain that the measurements were correct and then with due diligence found me an overstock piece of marble that was cheaper than the one my contractor was offering (and which didn't match my existing tile). I would definitely hire them for my next upgrade.

So, the value "looks" good, but in reality it's no different than shopping at other hardware stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. When you buy a product they act like you're getting a deal because of the rebates, but you have to pay more to begin with for the same products elsewhere. The rebate thing is a total gimmick and Menards is a ripoff. And, they make you go through the work of mailing in the rebate form (which could be an online thing but it's not) just to get back to the price you'd be paying elsewhere. Menards is a ripoff. They also charge about 9x more for delivery and set up compared to Lowe's. We paid $250 for a delivery and set up of a refrigerator and range to a first floor kitchen with no steps and Lowe's charges $35 for the same exact thing. Menards also charges $145 additional for pickup if you change your mind and return the item within the 7 days they allow (we changed our minds on the range), but at Lowe's it's FREE for a pickup of unwanted items that you had delivered if it's within 48 hours. Any way you look at it there's a ripoff going on at Menards. So, in conclusion we paid almost $400 in delivery/set up fees with the added pickup fee included in that price. $35 @ Lowes for same thing.

The in-home consultation with Mike planning a basement bathroom was helpful to get an idea of the layout of things. However, during that consultation in our home we talked about budgets as the initial quote for a basement bathroom was $15000. We tried to find ways to stay within our budget. Crazy ideas like, what if we buy a vanity ourselves for $500 instead of budgeting $1500 for one they want us to use, were met with annoyance and reasons why that wouldn't work. Long story short, Mike ghosted us. We never heard back from our calls and ultimately ended up using another company to complete our basement project. I wish I could recommend them, but I truly cannot. I get the business end of wanting a certain price so you can turn a certain amount of profit, but ghosting someone is never acceptable and only required a quick call to say "it doesn't sound like we can do business together due to different budgeting priorities ". It left a bad taste in our mouths and that is the story we tell anyone who asks about using Modern Kitchen & Baths.

These folks were hands-down the nicest out of everyone I encountered (I could feel that some were trying to get me to leave the second I got in, maybe they're not used to seeing folks like me) on this "boot replacement" adventure. Duenke's staff treated me with respect and kindness, found 1 replacement, and then went out of they're way to find a 2nd replacement. I was offered a cookie and not charged for either replacement. Furthermore, I am one of…read morethe only patients to "graduate" from my specialist's practice and not have to end up permanently on Restasis or similar and it is ALL David's knowledge that got me there! I had had Dry Eye Disease ( currently an "uncurable multifactorial" disease) for several years when I first began to work with David and PURE home design. After a trip away from home, I began to suspect that it was my wool carpet (which I thought was natural and was not at all!) that was triggering this issue. David helped me figure out how to test for VOC's in my home (which I wanted to do), and more importantly which wool carpet and pad I could replace my existing product with that was actually fully natural and untreated with formaldehyde and insect repellent ( permethrin). I myself have a background in design but was totally unfamiliar with the products and procedures David told me about. They completely changed my life! They really did! 1 month after I replaced my carpet, I went into the lab to get my cortisol tested (it had been high for years and nothing brought it down that I had tried). It had gone down 4 points to the middle of the normal range! It stayed that way now for 2 years. Additionally, within weeks my eyes began to feel better. When I went for a checkup 3 months later things were improving. When I went for a checkup 1 year later ( having not had to go in or use any additional treatments during that entire time), all my testing was normal and my doctor congratulated me and thanked me for teaching her so very much about her specialty! David is an amazing designer and resource. Super patient in going through multiple issues/considerations and remarkably well resourced and thorough! I have no qualms recommending PURE home design to anyone and feel that everyone should put their health and family first and go with them. Most interior designers have no idea about these types of issues or what products to use to replace the customary ones. There is a lot of "greenwashing" in the industry. If you truly want both a beautiful and healthy home for your family, you have come to the right place. Thank you David!

SKD assisted us in designing our kitchen, ordered our cabinets and supplied us with a lighting…read moreplan. Additionally, SKD gave us some guidance on the selection and layout of flooring materials. We worked long distance, and though they came to do two measures (with us covering their expenses), I acted as general for this kitchen. My kitchen: Our kitchen is small and presented profound challenges. The Beginning: Our kitchen is roughly 10 x 14 and each and every wall has either a door and/or a window. Additionally, the places we could locate ventilation were structurally limited, a fact that anyone who has tried to plan a kitchen knows can cause an inordinate number of complications. We had an area of dead space in the kitchen that was created by the fact the back wall of our kitchen contains a door that goes to a small patio. This was space we very much needed to utilize. Additionally, the only way to maximize our space was to design in two blind, but fully accessible corners and to build in a pull out pantry as the original kitchen contained virtually no pantry space for food storage. A number of kitchen designers looked at it and came in with impractical ideas that made no sense for anyone who actually plans to cook in their kitchen. SKD designers are themselves avid cooks and that experience informed their design suggestions in a way it did not inform others. On our wish list: We wanted a light, bright kitchen that opened to our dining room (thus creating a sense of light and social flow) that was also tailored to me, as a serious cook/baker. Our children are grown and we knew we wanted the Wolf 36" range and Subzero 36" refrigerator freezer. Though I have a lot of kitchen equipment, our taste is modernist, clean, white and warm. Thus while our aesthetic is pristine, we also had to maximize the use of absolutely every square inch of space. This is a tall list. The result: In collaboration with SKD, we designed an open concept kitchen with SKD that met each of our functional, aesthetic, ergonomic and light requirements. The cabinets we ordered through SKD are of upper mid-grade quality--absolutely solid, all wood, finely finished. These custom cabinets are similar in quality I think to Brookhaven (?); far above anything Home Depot offers. They are excellent and they are also wholly appropriate to our home; many designers will try to sell you cabinets that are either better than or of lesser quality than is justified by your home. These cabinets were right on target and they will last many years to come. The cabinet hardware--self-closing, hinges, etc.--also is all top of the line. SKD assisted us in selecting blind corner solutions and we are very pleased. In one corner we used the Hafele Lemans blind corner system (which wasted less space and had better movement, in our opinion, than their Magic Corner system). In the other, SKD thought to set up the cabinet so that it opened from the other side--a great call. All selections were practical, ergonomic and high quality. Beneficially, his cabinet company ordered our blind corner lemans system and built it in so that installation once the cabinets arrived was straightforward. While the cabinets were and have been excellent, I note that we had one extremely small grain fault in an upper cabinet door. This was absolutely no problem: the cabinet company immediately offered to replace at their expense--both shipping and post. The replacement is in process, and we have every confidence they totally stand behind their own product. Our kitchen is beautiful. The lighting plans and material guidance were spot-on.
