I took my 2005 Freightliner motorhome to Hawthorne Cat near Escondido (on Camino San Bernardo Rd.)…read more For years I had been dealing with an inaccurate high turbo boost pressure signal that would trigger SEL/ CEL (Stop Engine Light/ Check Engine Light) alarms. I was confident that the pressure reading was inaccurate because a secondary pneumatic boost sensor with dash gauge had already been installed. When the SEL/CEL alarms occurred, SilverLeaf VMS software on a laptop connected to the engine was indicating boost levels read by the Cat sensor to be 10-15 psi higher than the true pressure shown on the dash gauge connected to the secondary turbo boost sensor. Several mechanics at different shops were unsuccessful in solving the problem with my Cat C7 engine. Jim, the Hawthorne Cat truck shop foreman, assigned the task to one of his techs. He found that the Cat boost sensor installed by one of the prior mechanics was for C7 engines rated at 300HP of less. My 350HP C7 engine needed a different sensor. He replaced the sensor with the correct one, flashed the ECM with the latest software, and BINGO! No more SEL/CEL alarms and my Cat C7 is purring more "happily" than ever! To any readers with Cat C7 problems, I can't recommend any shop more highly than Hawthorne Cat!
