What a total waste of time Talking about a dealership without honor or integrity . I say this because I've bought too many cars and dealt with too many dealers and it's hard to surprise me. We went there twice which is an hour and a half drive each way then We wanted a car after several weeks of negotiating. We finally agreed on price of their car and trade-in was pretty much all set from the start. They just needed to look at the car in person for the second time. At second trip we were in a hurry cause we had an appointment so we stopped by. They looked at the car. They said they'll call us back in just a few after they research it a little bit more That never happened. We got a text message 5 days later that somebody came and bought the car right after we left. I asked why didn't you let us know ?and their reply was because the party didn't pick it up till 5 days later. That was the answer. So I went back and forth and it's upon layers of lies driven by well The usual greed run by a kid with a smirk probably owners, relative or son as a GM.lol They knew I was working with another place and even bigger discount than they're offering but involved a few hour drive which I backed out of in the name of this one. They don't deserve fancy buildings and fake fancy atmosphere paid by deception and milking a customer then laughing about it somewhere in a meeting and calling it a good business practice Their apology was fake, not genuine as this is their practice of doing things. I had a HORRIBLE experience picking up my "New" car. I waited for over 3 months to receive my 2023 GMC Canyon At4 and when I did It came with a laundry list of problems. From a dent on the left driver side door, 10+ large scratches all over the vehicle, sticker residue left stuck on, covered in dirt everywhere top to bottom, and tire dressing grease all over the side of the car. The electronics and infotainment cluster were not working, wireless charging not working, radio not working and I had to drive off the lot in silence!! When I picked up the truck I was told "there's a few scratches and problems, but hey you're a detailer you can just buff it all out and fix them yourself." Not how envisioned my first weekend with my "New" truck. So far Gates GMC has not resolved the problem, attempt to compensate me, or at the very least even apologize once for this frustrating car buying experience. My truck is now on the way back to the shop and I'm stuck without a car. If they resolve any of this I will update this review. read more

Recently bought a 2012 Dodge Avenger from Gates GMC Nissan for my commuting college son. Worked with Nick Florentino from their sales department on the sale. Only made one payment on it (59 more to go!), and drove it 1,500 miles in that months timeframe. Just had to have the car towed to my driveway where it now sits, undriveable, due to transmission issues. Not a lot of help from Gates thus far on resolving the issue. Car is too old to be covered under Lemon Law in CT apparently (we live in Mass just over the line, we weren't' aware of that, that part of this story my bad mistake). Said they would make a trade offer on it and it was pretty sad offer at that (I'd eat $6k of the $8,800 I paid on it, plus eat taxes titles and fees) Just want to thank Gates Buick Nissan for selling us a problem car, then throwing you hands up. No help with any repair, and a shocking and laughable trade offer on the car they just sold me. Hopefully they can work something out with us. Otherwise, I'll be telling everyone I know to stay far away from this place if considering a used car. read more

Pretty disappointed with my recent service here. Spent $4500 and was told all good and "you will feel the difference when driving and we resolved all issues. On my way out, the moment i finished paying $4500 Mark Minor says oh by the way feels like the transmission is going, you shouldnt do any repairs and sell the vehicle right away. Why would you make $4500 in repairs if your findings were that there was a transmission issue. Do not recommend. read more

The service department is very well organized and attentive for the most part, although sometimes it took longer and was more expensive than originally told. I ended up switching dealerships, cost on most recent service was almost half the price and wait time. Although small town dealerships are nice, larger dealerships still posses the customer service and pricing to better fit my needs for the future. read more

I have been receiving notice after notice after notice about exchanging my vehicle. First off, my experience there was by far one of the worst. They sold a brand new vehicle with 4 blown shocks, and damaged my rear bumper, which I them had to pay out of pocket for. I requested to be taken off their calling list, and email list, and of course, 'I'm sorry to hear about your experience, I'll make sure to have you removed immediately.' That was 2014. 2015 rolls around, phone calls, emails, and once again, 'we will remove you from our list.' 2016, still calls and emails. 2018? Well you can guess it. 2 notices this month about exchanging my vehicle, email after email. Please, just leave me alone. read more

This is a business that violated Connecticut state law when it terminated an employee for sharing their compensation with a colleague. Public Act No. 15-196, entitled An Act Concerning Pay Equity and Fairness was passed recently in Connecticut. It forbids employers from terminating or otherwise punishing employees for discussing their salaries and/or hourly wages. My friend shared with a female colleague how much he was making an hour and she was dismayed to find she was being paid less for similar work. If a business can't follow basic labor laws, it begs the question how honest are they in their other dealings? There are plenty of car dealerships out there that don't pay women less than men and who treat their employees unfairly. read more

Beware !! I agreed to purchase a vehicle on a Friday, put a deposit and completed a credit check for financing. I wasn't able to pick car up till following Saturday and that wasn't good enough for them so the canceled the deal. I took my mother to get a new vehicle because she kept getting letters saying she could get a new car and keep the payments about the same. After 4 hours they came back with an offer that was almost double what she pays now and the guy had nerve enough to say "Good news!" For who? Not her. Also everything was going fine until they found out her age, she is 80, suddenly everything changed and they gave me some gibberish about how if they added my name to the paperwork it would look better for the bank because they prefer 2 people on their loans. What a load of crap! If you are a senior citizen and female do not go there! They do not want your business and will do everything they can to take you for every penny they can. FYI, I am reporting them to the better business bureau as well as any other consumer watchdog group I can think of. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company. read more

I've been around cars my whole life. I love to work on them (when time permits) and enjoy reading all that I can about them. I'm in a very service oriented industry, so I take note and appreciate friendly, fair and skilled service. Too often, nowadays, companies are more interested in the bottom line and not in pleasing the customer. I'm here, regrettably, to say that Gates GMC/BUICK falls into the later category. Suffice to say, I will no longer purchase or have my car serviced by these dishonest businessmen. Their Service (service-that's a laugh)Department treats you like another number, not as an individual who is paying for a service with the expectation that they won't be ripped off. Even though I still have one free oil change left (as credit for buying my car from them), I've decided to go elsewhere. I recommend you do not deal with the Smart Pay (a middle man) company when dealing with a loan here. Gates Finance recommended the company as a way to pay off your loan quicker. Gates told us there was almost a 2 dollar charge per withdrawal but failed to tell us that there was a membership fee of about 400 dollars!!! (To be fair to Smart Pay, we spoke to them afterwards and they were very upfront and it was easy to cancel.) Gates was not upfront regarding this fee which makes one wonder. Fyi**As an individual, you can set up these payments as noted above directly to the loan agency and pocket all the savings yourself! read more

I've been coming to Gates for their Nissan services ever since I bought my car in 2016. The staff at Gates are incredibly friendly and considerate people. Gates has offered me excellent rates on my services in comparison to near-by competitors. They understood the importance of ensuring I stayed within my budget as a college student and so they never tried to make me pay for any additional or unnecessary services. It's also very close to UConn for students with vehicles! They have a lovely work/plug-in area where I've spent time getting homework done and enjoying as much complimentary water and coffee as I wanted while I was waiting for my car to come out of service. While you wait, a member of staff gives you a run-down on how the complimentary multi-point inspection went with your vehicle and explains all the necessary work that needs to be done, what you can hold off on or how soon you should come back, etc. Even if I had classes or exams to attend while my car was in service, Gates actually provided that transportation for me! To school and back to Gates to receive my car! They also ALWAYS wash your car after a service FOR FREE. Definitely would recommend!! read more

We put a deposit down on a used car on Friday, went in the following Tuesday to pick it up. Thomas Gates tells us the car is unavailable because one of his employees wants this car for his wife. "He is so sorry " he says. Then he proceeds to says, it was hard for him, " he didn't know who to piss of, an employee or a customer?". His exact words out of his mouth. As he said this my husbands and my mouth dropped! Thomas Gates chose to piss off the customer. Thomas Gates then states he has a "smoking deal for us with a new car". We test drive it, it is dirty, has absolutely NO features, just a radio, we even had to hand crank the seats to move them. Talk about a bait and switch situation here. This new car was six thousand dollars more than the used car we wanted which was loaded with features. We were so upset over the this, we loved the car we put a deposit on. The employees have pick of the crop everyday. Why would they do this to a family that put down a deposit? This is a terrible way to run a business. Our story is exactly why car salesman have the bad reputation they do. We were looking to buy from a business in our community, to support our community. Never thought a family owned business would cheat their community like this. The good news is we found the same car out of state, with such a wonderful crew at the dealership. I purchased a Nissan xTerra from Gates in 2011. The entire buying process was smooth and the staff was easy to work with. I continue to bring the vehicle in for routine maintenance and the staff is fantastic! Someone always greets me at the door with a smile, and the service technician always goes over everything. If they find something wrong with my vehicle, they fully explain what is needed before going ahead with the work. I am very happy, and comfortable with the entire Gates team, and would recommend them to anyone looking to purchase and/or service a vehicle. read more

Bought a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with 50k miles on it. With in two months I had to replace a wheel bearing and now cam shaft and a lifter. This is costing me well over 3000 dollars on a truck with less then 60k miles on it. Either They sold me crap or the mileage is misrepresented. read more

I agreed to purchase a new truck for a certain price. at first the salesman was very accommodating. he went the extra mile to convince me that he was a "straight shooter" and that they were a trustworthy branch. he valued my trade and i put a deposit on the truck. upon proceeding to finalize the deal. i was informed that they in fact would not honor the price that had been previously agreed on. instead adding more than 5,000 to the price. i had the entire conversation in writing. after arguing back and forth for 15 minutes and explaining that i had given up another deal on a truck for the one we had in place, the GM basically told me i was out of luck. this is exactly what i was wary of and not how businesses should operate. I would strongly urge anyone looking for a GMC, Buick, or Nissan in the Windham Connecticut area to look elsewhere. this is a dishonorable establishment. Customer service and sales in the beginning was one of the easiest and friendliest services I've ever had... Up until financing and contracts were signed. I've wasted hours of my time there (3 hours for an oil change), severe lack of communication between me and the customer service and between them and their own vehicle service department, and now information on what fees and other costs there are were never stated from when I signed the contract. All they say is I signed the contract however, I have read and reread everything I have signed and no where does it state these extra charges I noticed. Scam artists. These people are friendly and at your service until you've bought the car and then asking for their help or to explain why is like pulling teeth. Went from the easiest car buying experience to the biggest headache I've ever had. read more

Delivered it with two new dents on empty, 6 hour delay (gave me three different times) because of 'misplaced paperwork'. The best part, they did the best they could. One of the worst places I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Bought a certified barely used Rogue from them and after literally 13x in the shop, still no fix of some mystery problem, which damn near killed me (brakes failed, steering locked on highway) I gave up and traded the vehicle (which is already back out for sale). They tried to make me pay for the parts and labor that didn't even fix the issue, and I said I would get a lawyer to deal with it beings I wasn't paying for shit because I'd literally been having the issue from day 2, then magically they paid for it, even though they still didn't fix it and I was basically forced to do a trade and let them make more $ off of me. It was probably a simple repair and they were money hunting. I ended up demanding they take the vehicle back after it still wasn't fixed and I got a Toyota, like I should have from the beginning and requested they do nothing to it, no cleaning, no maintenance, etc, that after threatening a lawsuit I had every right to and stating I wasn't paying negative equity for a forced trade. I have had many very negative experiences at this Dealers Service Dept. However, This last time is so unacceptable I needed to let you know. Originally the passenger seat belt when you pulled it to connect it would intermittently not pull all the way out. I took the car back to Gates where the car was purchased. This dealership is 45 min from where I live. They found that the seat belt needed to be replaced. It had to be ordered. When I brought the car back on a day I was on vacation from work, they replaced the seat belt. That evening when my wife sat in the passenger seat and tried to pull the seat belt to secure it, the seat belt was completely bound to the point that it just hung there and would not retract at all. This safety item left Gates Worse than when it went in. When we called to make the service department aware. The service writer was short in his responses and very condescending. He did not give any options other than I needed to bring the car back for them to check over what had been done. Almost implying that my wife did something to the seat belt. How that is even logical, I do not understand. It wasn't until my wife asked if someone could come to get the car because we already wasted a portion of a vacation day that he said "He would check with a manager to see if that was possible because the are short staffed". He stated he would call us back to let us know. After 20 min I called to see what the determination was. AGAIN, with his Condescending Tone let me know that the manager approved having someone come get the car. I appreciate that they are coming to get the car. However, This car should have been fixed correctly the first time. And the way my wife and I were spoken to (Like we were at fault) is totally unacceptable. Until there are leadership and employee changes at Gates I would not recommend this service department to ANYONE! read more

I don't recommend Gates Nissan - Car salesmen will force you into selling your soul. They should be embarrassed. My mom recently purchased a car from Gates. Salesman wanted to tack on every single extended warranty and fee under the sun. Talked her into financing because that's the only way to get the $1000 rebate. But, they charged $700 for finance administration. Worth it to save $300? Hardly. They saw her coming a mile away. Older woman with a broken accent, from a foreign land. Yeah. $$$ rang in their eyes. When my mother told the salesman no and he finally let go, they made arrangements for pickup and paper signing. She shows up and the Gen Manager has fees after fees for various items tacked on. Finance administration (not interest). Paint warranty, extended warranty, you name it. She argued for over 5 hours with them that she didn't want them. (New vehicle no less). But the Gen manager stated "you really do need it. It really has to be on here. You don't want to go without it." She admitted she should have walked, but they broke her down. Shame on Gates and the whole Nissan crew. I have dealt with them once. They are forceful and try to convince you to buy into things you don't need - or want. But I've seen them with elderly, and with language challenged individuals. They push harder using terms like "you need this to ensure your vehicle is covered". They use sales gimmicks that should be banned. If I could convince her to shove the car where the sun doesn't shine, I would. I have never seen someone purchase a car and look so beat up and saddened over it. I will never ever recommend Gates Nissan or any Gates dealership. If you have a heavy accent, bring someone along to strong arm your own wishes. Or they will overpower those emotionally drained. read more

There was no waiting time pulled right into bay and was greeted by friendly service department employees. Was then directed to waiting room which was previously walked to when I came in for diagnosis, which was a very impressive touch. Waiting room was beautiful and made the time spent there "which was surprisingly quick" pleasant. On August 25 my 2013 Nissan Altima with 46,000 miles stalled, died and left me stranded on rt 190 where I had to have it towed to Lia Nissan of Enfield. I was told that it was the transmission and that the cvt transmissions were known for having problems. Because this is an hour away from my home I made arrangements to get it back to Windham so it could be brought to Gates where it was brought the following Tuesday August 29th. I fully explained what had already happened and informed them all the paperwork from Lia Nissan could be found on the front seat. The service tech then explained to me that they were getting no codes with my transmission so it seemed to be fine but that I needed to get a transmission flush because I was late on the service for that and that the fluid was filthy. $316 later I have been assured my car is all set so I pick up my car on September 1st. As I enter the highway going 65 miles an hour my whole entire car starts shuddering as if it is going to fall apart. I quickly exit the highway where it dies in the street. I was able to restart the car but as soon as I moved it out of the park position it would jump and die making it very dangerous. After being able to get it back to the dealership they agreed to look at it again. My car sat in their lot until September 6th at which point the service manager rudely told me they could not waste anymore time or effort on my car when it was fine. They say they repeatedly tested the car and could not get my car to duplicate any of the errors I was experiencing. Literally shaking and crying I go to pick my car up from the dealership scared to death to have to drive this on the road again without it being fixed. I made it to the stop light in front of Walmart where my car died in the middle of the road at 4:30 in the afternoon during rush hour traffic. I could not get it started again and called the dealership in a panic where the service manager that had just sent me on my way put me on hold. As I continue to be broken down in the intersection he never picks the phone back up until it starts ringing for the receptionist again who sends me back to him. When he does get back on the phone he tells me he doesn't have any mechanic that can go on help me but if I could get the car back there they would try to take a look at it again!!!! At which point I became very very upset and he put me on hold again, when it rang back I got a different manager who assured me he would be right there to help me. He did come within 5 mins (during the meantime I was able to keep car running enough to get into a parking lot) and he proceeded to drive the car when it died on him to which he exclaimed "yup that's your torque converter". At this point I have been without a car for two weeks and basically been called a liar by their service department for claiming anything was wrong with my car in the first place. Seems a little hard to believe that they put so much time and energy into testing the car and I couldn't even make it a half a mile down the street without it breaking down, although I will say at this point they give me a rental because frankly it was the VERY least they could do! The next day I get a phone call from the Service manager telling me that they're just waiting on permission from Nissan to replace the torque converter, this same conversation went on for the next 8 days. During one of these updates I answer my phone to hear a strange man saying " good morning beautiful" to which I asked who is this? I was told this is so and so at Gates I just wanted to make you smile this morning (for real you can't even make bs like this up)Finally I get a phone call on September 14 to let me know they finally got permission to order a whole new transmission.... which let's remember this is what I told them was wrong with the car when I initially brought it in three weeks earlier. On September 18, 24 days after my car initially broke down I was finally able to pick it up. When I went to pick it up I was told the paperwork wasn't finalized and that it would be mailed to me one week later I'm still waiting for that paperwork. So I guess if my car did blowup today I don't even have paper proof that it was ever even serviced at Gates. This is my third and final vehicle we will ever buy from Gates or one of their affiliates (Columbia Ford, Premier Chevrolet) if it wasn't bad enough for the transmission to go in my practically new car the way I was treated was inexcusable! read more
